I only ordered a risotto special with shrimp calamari (paying about $25 total, including tip). I thought that my food was pricy for the small portions given, but pretty rich in taste and flavor. It was alright, I suppose, but I went for dessert elsewhere read more

I've been here a bunch of times, and their beer selection is pretty limited (and over-priced). But, hey, it's popular with the grad student crowd in Cambridge, so I go from time to time and try to meet ditzy Classics postgrads. No more. We got turfed for sitting down at a table on the deck outside (after being told by the door guy / Maitre D' that we could "sit anywhere"). We were told that it was a 45 minute wait for a table and that we were welcome to "leave now". Not sweet. This joint used to be fine. Unpretentious and a good crowd. Now it's trying to be more restaurant, less pub. And failing at both. read more

I know I give out 5 star reviews too often, and I'm trying to quit, but listen...Daedalus's roof deck is a four star kind of establishment. The wine selection is five star, the draught list is five star, and oh my god the appetizers are ten star. The sun in my eyes at 5 pm...okay, that's one star, but seriously, am I going to complain about a sunny day in the summer of 2009? I'll take it where I can get it, even if it means hunching down table-level until sundown. read more

Overpriced. Overrated. Small menu selection. That's all, I just can't talk about it any more.

I ate at Daedalus for the first time in late November with two of my friends and was thoroughly impressed. The roasted duck risotto special was unbelievable and the apple cobbler for desert was amazing. The atmosphere was nice and laid back with good music playing through out dinner. In addition to the food, the service was excellent. I had an extremely handsome server (I believe his name was Michael) who was very knowledgeable about the menu and had a great sense of humor. I slipped him my phone number when I paid the bill but still no call back !!! He can park his shoes under my bed anytime he wants!!! The upstairs also offers an outdoor deck which would be great in the summer. I will definitely be going back and would recommend Daedalus to anyone in the mood for good food in a laid back setting (and studs for waiters!!!). read more

My work ordered lunch here from yesterday and it was great. A coworker and I split a steak salad and the crab cake sandwich and they were both good. It really hit the spot for lunch in the middle of the work day. Fresh, and comforting with a kick. read more

I love this place for their roof deck. The Boston area sadly has a shortage of roof decks and so I am giving them for stars just for the outdoor space. Disclaimer: I have no idea what there food is like, but have celebrated with a wine or cocktail on the roof, and it was fabulous. read more

Daedalus is a cool hang out spot that's off of the popular Harvard Square area and neat the Harvard Lampoon Building. After coming here for dinner one night, we came back for drinks and dessert during the weekend. It has a nice rooftop deck as well. The deck gets packed early especially on a good summer's day, so get there early if you can. I liked the seafood risotto special which came with tons of mussels. I ordered a molten chocolate cake as well but I didn't like the taste of the cake too much. I highly recommend this place to share a bottle of wine with friends and enjoy each other's company! read more

Having been here a few times for drinks and never for food made me hold out on reviewing it. Not to mention I still haven't used their roofdeck which is probably their biggest value prop. But because I'm bored and am sitting idle in front of my computer, I've decided to review Daedulus. Their bad day I suppose. Though they shouldn't be too afraid - the place is a nice cambridge hangout. The drinks are good and strong (and served in tiny martini/wine glasses for the same price....) The food is strictly ok. I ordered the spicy carribbean jerk chicken sandwich with fries. Neither the sandwich nor the fries were great. I was just REALLY hungry. Though I did peek over and the salmon and mashed potatoes did look delicious. Once again, looked being the key word here. However the service was good for the most part. We had a large party and they did take care of us well enough. I still would like to come back to this place during the summer and see how the roof deck is like - this review is incomplete without it. But I can see how the proximity to the B school combined with the roofdeck and drinks can make this place a regular hangout. read more

Came here for dinner with my GF and could not have been happier. The food was delicious and the drinks were even better. We had a few different cocktails and each one was better than the last. It did fill up when we were upstairs and got loud but who cares it was a weekend night and that is to be expected. We also went real later for dinner about an hour before the kitchen closed so we were in between dinner crowd and late night drinking crowd. Still had a great meal. read more

PROS: - Reasonably priced - Decent food (they do nice salads and a good burger) - Roof deck! (when it's nice out) CONS: - Seating downstairs is cramped and upstairs gets crowded quickly - Limited wines by the glass menu - Location (not near much else) read more

Love love love their outdoor patio for brunch. It was so nice to come to an outdoor space for brunch in Harvard Square and a.) not have to wait at least 45 minutes for a table b.) actually get amazing service and food. It didn't hurt that the weather was absolutely perfect also. I had the crabcake sandwich, holy cow yum. Oh yes we'll be back. read more

This place was the heart of my (of-age) undergrad drinking experiences (and maybe a few since then too). Cozy, classy and convenient, Daedalus is a perfect example of why the Cambridge bar scene beats Boston any day or night. The atmosphere is laid back and great for weeknight drinks and a good conversation with friends, brunch on a sunny Sunday afternoon, or people-watching on a summer night with the windows open and a great draft beer in hand. In the summer their rooftop is the best outdoor bar area in Cambridge, with views just above street level and a good breeze rolling in from the river, and and in the winter the red walls and dark wood are cozy without being stifling, while a kettle of hot cider fills the air with cinnamon, tempting you to order a glass with a healthy swag of rum. There are certainly better restaurants in Cambridge if you're looking for fine dining but the food is great if you're just meeting up with friends, or want a solid meal without a solid check. The tomato bisque and buffalo chicken tenders (deep fried, not grilled) are long-standing favorites, and the steak or portabello salads are substantial entrees, though the seared scallops and stuffed pork medallions are also great. The daily specials menu features chefs-special risottos which have featured mushrooms, steak, or lobster but are all appropriately creamy and come in healthy proportions; special salads are also typically very good, and overall the menu offers a broad range of options (particularly compared with similar local venues like Redline or Grafton). Brunch is reasonably priced and offers a variety of great egg dishes (a classic benedict, well-balanced omelet or enormous breakfast burrito, among others), and often impossible to get a table given its popularity among locals (read: undergrads, MBAs and nearby recent grads such as myself). The bar offers a great range of beers on tap (local favorites such as Sankaty Light or Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale as well as imports like O'Hara's Irish Stout or or Pilsner Urquell) and the experienced, knowledgeable bartenders make well-mixed, reasonably priced cocktails to suit any request. The staff is consistently friendly and attentive and you can always spot one of the owners here at night, shuttling between chatting with regulars at the bars upstairs or down, and checking into the kitchen to make sure everything is running smoothly. This place is honestly one of the reasons I still haven't moved out of Cambridge since graduating 4 years ago. read more

We were here on Friday night and still were able to find a good table upstairs. I had portobello risotto that was tasty but pretty small (especially regarding its price) so I left hungry. The waitress was very annoying-she was interrupting our conversation every second trying to get us another drink, food, dessert and later the bill. We just felt like leaving as soon as possible so we could talk. Also the place was very loud read more

If you are a woman, DO NOT GO HERE - you will be discriminated against. My friends and I had heard great things about this restaurant, so we figured we'd try it out. We made reservations a week in advance for the outdoor rooftop. However, when the 4 of us girls showed up, we were told our table outside would not be ready for an hour and a half (even though we showed up right on time for our reservation) so we chose to take an open table indoors. However, we quickly realized that everyone showing up after us was brought upstairs to the roof. We then realized as we finished our meals - we were the only group placed indoors, in the corner of the restaurant, when there was clearly space upstairs. In addition, our waiter was very rude to us when we were just trying to order our meal. As we were getting ready to leave , my friend and I walked upstairs to use the bathroom. There was no one in the upstairs section except for a group of girls, in the corner of the room, just like us. It was VERY strange. We were very upset by this experience as the food and drinks were very good, however our waiter was unnecessarily rude to us and we felt uncomfortable the entire time - when we did absolutely nothing wrong AND had a reservation. Just something to be aware of if you go here. read more

The food we had was not bad - calamari and cobb salad - and we were pretty happy to come back again. However, the service at the end of our time there was terrible. We ordered some food to be packed to go. It didnt come. When reminded, the waiter came out with a box after, it seems, some rummaging in the kitchen. When we opened the box at home, there were just scraps of leaves reminding us of the food we thought we had packed - any thoughts what happened? To top it all off, I found that the bill was slightly higher on my bank statement than what I had signed for. Perhaps the tip was raised, despite the bad service. read more

Environmentally, the appeal is the rooftop bar, but gastronomically, the real appeal is definitely the specials! I didn't realize how good the food here could be, but I can tell you that the pork risotto and the spaghetti and meatballs were absolutely divine. The pork was perfectly seasoned and the mushrooms were delicious, and this is coming from someone who doesn't even really like pork or mushrooms! I also recommend the tomato bisque, and their cobbler is fantastic. They also have a commendable selection of fine scotch, including a 15-year Caol Ila cask strength that's a favorite of mine, and the seldom-found Glenlivet Nadurra. The rooftop offers a beautiful view of the city, but is occasionally quite crowded. The staff have never been anything but friendly and helpful. read more

Rooftop bar is a good spring/summer spot. It's first come first serve. And there is an indoor bar and seating area on the rooftop that serves too. Pork tacos were delicious, Parmesan fried great too. Ambiance inside upstairs was medium - I would only go for the outdoor rooftop bar. read more

Eh, kind of an eclectic menu. Came here for drinks & appetizers with some girlfriends and was not super impressed. Have been back since for drinks & would recommend sticking to their beverage selections, and moving on for dinner. If you're looking for a good place to grab a drink & catch up with friends, this might be a good spot though. read more

Roof deck is the real draw. Not sure I'd roll here otherwise. Food is average at best. Good spot for a beer, but I'd pass on eating here unless you had a seat outside on a warm day. read more

Loved the gorgeous deck to enjoy a few Brunch delights! Food was good and the hot apple cider with Sailor Jerry was a great time too.

Daedalus was an excellent lunch spot in Cambridge, MA. We sat on the roof deck, which is a fantastic open air space to enjoy a meal. The jerk chicken sandwich was very tasty, as well as my wife's blackened chicken wrap. Accompanying french fries were crisp and delicious. Above all, I would return in an instant for the awesome rooftop! read more

I'm going to give it 4 stars because I love the patio and the environment as long as I order a beer here. I've never had food here because the menu is kinda limited and unexciting to me. The drinks are a little too juicey/mixture for me. I like mine with a little more kick but if you like the more sweeter style cocktail the place is good. Relatively decent but limited beer selection that I am happy with. read more

the roof top is a killer spot on a nice evening. just as good is the upstairs bar. Every time I have been here I have had great service and delicious food. The staff is so unbelievable friendly and helpful especially for bean-town. Quite possibly the best restaurant in Cambridge. read more

In almost nine years of living in Boston, I had never stepped foot into this establishment. All this time, I've been missing out on that ridiculously inviting roofdeck - SHAME ON ME! I met a group of friends here last night for dinner/drinks/catching up/yukking it up and it was a wonderful choice. It's a short walk from the Harvard Square T, five minutes or so, but it is on the periphery of where the commercial becomes residential. we were a group of five and we had a reservation for dining inside. While making the reservation, we were notified that they do not accept reservations for the roofdeck. I was the first to arrive in my party. In checking in with the hostess, I asked about putting our name on the list for the roof deck. She moved our name over to that list, giving us a very reasonable estimate for wait time. We ended up waiting for our table at the upstairs bar, which is a bit of a tease....while sitting there you get to see the other patrons enjoying the outside while you are awaiting your spot to open. Once seated, we were served by a lovely hostess who was attentive and was able to work with some of our dietary restrictions (no steak on the risotto special, etc). I ordered the crab cake sandwich and fries. It was a large-sized crab cake and was quite filling. A little heavy on the breading for my taste, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It came with a chipotle aioli and avocado, which I found to be perfect accompaniments. I drank the pinot grigio, which was ok, but I should have stuck with beer all night. The draft menu was a bit heavy in terms of skewing towards pale ales, so for those looking for darker beers, it seemed a bit disappointing. I chalk it up to seasonal rotation, but a more varying array of drafts would have been ideal. It was truly an escape from the city, getting to catch up with friends on a pleasant evening, watching the sun go down, and catching views of the towers that pepper Harvard's campus. read more

Great spot for more upscale bar food. Cocktails at the bar upstairs are great with it's open ceiling (a glass garage door). There is some great seating in the corner which is nice for a card game with friends or reading the paper on a lazy afternoon. read more

Daedalus is located a bit off the beaten path in the Harvard Square area which keeps the place from getting too busy. I found it very easy to get served quickly at one of the bars. This is definitely an awesome place to gather with friends on a warm summer evening because of the roof deck! I can't think of many things better than relaxing outside with good friends and good brews. I haven't eaten here but the beer selection is respectable and the bartenders are quick and efficient. read more

The portions are big. The wait staff are friendly. The atmosphere is casual but trendy. This is a good place for a date or to catch up with friends. The drinks are pretty decent and you can get a decent beer for around $6.00. We sat on the rooftop which is pretty spacious. There aren't that many rooftop bars around Boston or Cambridge so I think I was really happy when we got seated up there without a reservation. I had the crab salad and it was decent. Nothing spectacular but the portions are pretty big. It was kind of humid so I wasn't wanting anything hot but I noticed the dinner entrees all came with fresh vegetables. My friend and I wanted to linger around after we finished our dinner and so we ordered another drink and a side of fries. Our server didn't rush us out at all and when we left, the wait staff thanked us for coming. Overall, a pretty good experience. read more

Daedalus is a cool restaurant that had pretty decent food (we both got Mexican scrambled eggs, which were good), my lady friend had a Mimosa (she felt it wasn't much for the cost) and I had some tea. Overall I enjoyed the decor and the music the most, our waitress was pretty cool, and the food was solid, but nothing to write home about. read more

I'm grateful to Daedalus because it offers a special three-course prix-fixe menu arrangement that's the best priced in Harvard Square for my student organization's events. The food is pretty standard, but well-made and tasty. I enjoy the salmon with asparagus -- the sauce has a nice amount of acidity and the fish is cooked perfectly. The place gets busy quickly and can get quite loud inside - try to sit at the rooftop deck! read more

I've only been in for a quick drink and appetizer but the calamari was delicious, I've heard for years about the retracting roof upstairs but never made it in. I suppose I should check out the whole shebang and edit this. read more

Daedalus is a very nice place to go in the Harvard Square area. Their rook deck is the big selling point. While you cannot make reservations in advance to ensure space on the deck, it is one of the best places in the area to enjoy a meal or drinks on in the summertime. (Note: They do require you to get food to be seated there if the place is busy, which is often the case in the evening.) The menu is not super-large at Daedalus, but what they have they do prepare well. One of the great aspects of eating here is with sandwiches and burgers you don't have to pick between fries or salad for a side because they'll let you do half fries and half salad. They have an good selection for cocktails here, too. read more

I hear from several people the food isn't that great here, but that's hear-say. I'm only here for happy hours and maybe early night drinking, and, for that purpose, Daedalus just rocks!! Their beer selection is amazing and light-drinker friendly. On a summer night, the patio always gets filled up with people, who never fail to initiate silly but still intelligible conversations with you. read more

went on a saturday night with a girlfriend to grab a drink. it was a fun cool place, we had a good time and ordered some kick as@ desserts. Nice change of venue for me and I enjoyed it. read more

They say "Clothes a man does not make" well Daedalus a restaurant does not make. The only thing this place has going for it is the very nice roof garden/terrace. We wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt after reading all the bad reviews. One should listen when is given good advice. Lets start with the food. We ordered the "Not your average Benedict" I guess it was better than the regular Benedict since it had avocado and salmon which is great since the Hollandaise sauce was virtually taste free. However, I would not write home about it. The crab cake sandwich was very dry and I suspect it had very little crab because it was tasteless. I ordered a beer and my partner ordered a cappuccino which tasted more like a latte and was brought to him when he was almost finished eating his meal. Not once we were approach by anyone to find out how we were doing and the only time they came was when we call them to ask for water. In short, bad food and equally bad service is what does not make Daedalus a restaurant. By the way, almost $11.00 for two eggs any style, home fries and a meat item is unequivocally criminal. read more

Nothing to add that hasn't already been said, except I can't be explicit enough... The outdoor deck is KILLER during the spring, summer, and fall. If you're single, I've seen a decent looking crowd hang out at this place, can be a fun joint to go mingling. read more

I really wanted to try Daedalus for the rooftop seating, but it really wasn't worth it. The service was really slow, and began by messing up our drinks, but they didn't come back to ask until the food was on its way out. The food itself was not good, and we left a good portion of it on our plates. The check was much too large for the experience and lack of taste. I won't be visiting again. read more

The service here is eh, hit or miss. The atmosphere is great and the outdoor seating is so nice in the summer. The hot cider is great in the winter. I usually like my food--the breakfast burrito is good for brunch (get fries instead of potatoes). If you are in the area, it's one of the better places to go. read more

This place is good, but not outstanding. The service was just ok and the whole place was too dark. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meal, but it's not necessarily a place I'll be frequenting. read more

I've heard great things about this place so when a good friend had her b-day dinner here, I was quite excited. First, it's about a 10 minute walk from the T stop so it's easily accessible for many. Since we came here in the winter, sitting on the rooftop (their claim to fame) was not an option. Nevertheless, we had a great booth facing the front of the restaurant. Our server was great and accommodating! I wish I got his name so I could give him proper recognition. The fried pickles and calamari apps were great! I had the crab cake sandwich with sweet potato fries. The crab cake sandwich filled me up a bit so I didn't have room for the fries but the few that I had were yummy. It also came with the maple aioli. Unfortunately I can't say much for the drinks as I didn't partake but their drink menu was extensive enough to please many. I would definitely come back to check out their rooftop deck once the weather gets warmer! read more
