If you're looking for a fun place to grab drinks and enjoy some warm weather this is the place to go! They have a large rooftop deck overlooking some of Harvard square with lots of tables. Drink menu and bar food are both good. The truffle fries and calamari are fun to munch on while you sip the cocktails. I liked the red sangria and gin spritz drink. Staff was accommodating but didn't act like they were happy to be there. Overall, good vibes and I'll be back frequently this summer! read more

To be completely honest, I only wanted to eat here because of the name. And it was worth it! My salad was amazing and the wine pairing was perfect. We were able to sit upstairs away from the noise of the downstairs bar. Our server was very helpful and kind. If I'm ever back in Boston, I'll definitely stop back in! read more

Against my better judgement and the Yelp reviews, I went to Daedalus at the insistence of Pete, who really wanted to have a drink on the roof deck. Well, it's a gorgeous roof deck, though it doesn't have much of a view. I had a Tom Collins and he had a mojito. Mine came in a tiny water glass and tasted like a flat gin and tonic with lemon. The mojito, served in a pint-size glass, had tons of lime in it and was pronounced decent. Since we were enjoying the weather, we gave in and ordered nachos. They were okay, though I wish the salsa and the sour cream had been properly distributed rather than plopped at opposite ends of of the dish. A lottttt of jalapenos, not enough cheese. The main reason this went from 3 to 2 stars is this: when our server came by towards the end to ask if we wanted anything else, we said no. Since we weren't ordering anything else, Pete asked for the check. I had finished and so signified by putting my napkin on my plate. There was still about a quarter of the nachos left, and he was reaching to eat more when the server, after hearing we wanted the check, started to clear the table. Uh, what? She didn't bother to ask if we were still finished, or if she could pack it up for us, or anything. It wasn't like it was packed and someone else was waiting for our table. We had to interrupt her, to say, "Uh, we're still eating that?" to keep her from taking it away. It's just poor etiquette. I didn't want to penalize our server with a small tip for poor food and drink quality, but after that, I said to hell with it. If you're going to be a server, at least do it right. read more

Been here a few times and they're very consistent, with the food and service being generally good. The flatbread with garlic and herbs with a roasted red pepper spread that they serve when you first sit down is delicious - probably my favorite pre-dinner "bread" in Cambridge. The risotto special almost always pleases, and the steak is pretty good. One of my friends devoured the calamari last time I was there, so I guess she liked it. There's more seating upstairs and another bar with a nice drink menu. They've always been reliable for a good martini, and the wine list isn't bad. Friends seem to enjoy their mojitos too. Weekends can often be pretty crowded, as a lot of people come just for drinks after dinner. The new roof deck is pretty awesome, and has a nice atmosphere until it gets too crowded to move. It's very nice to have a drink out there, though to get a table, so I would recommend coming before dark (for dinner?) and just relaxing out there with a bottle of wine. read more

I had the most delicious brunch here today. We tried the stuffed French Toast which was out of this world, and the Eggs Benedict which was delicious as well. It was packed around 1, but we were able to sit at the upstairs bar area which was fine. There is a little greenhouse type area around the bar, so it was bright and refreshing. I love that they have a roof deck for the warmer months and would love to come back for lunch or dinner. I think it could stand to be a little cheaper, but other than that I had a great time. read more

Normally, I'm not the type of girl who sends food back. In fact, I struggle to think of more than just two or three times in my whole life that I have done so. I did have to send my duck breast back here. I just really, really didn't like it. At all. The waitress and I shared an awkward moment over it, which kind of sucked for me, as I was already uncomfortable. Instead, I just had a simple quasedilla, which was adequate, but nothing spectacular I couldn't have made myself in my own kitchen. It seems that the main draw of Daedalus for many of the reviewers is the roof deck, which we didn't know about, and wouldn't have seen even anyway, since it was the dead of winter. Based on food, service, and price alone, I chalk this up to a two star experience- with ambitions for a three star edit if I ever see this magical roof deck. read more

Not too much I can eat here but I love the bar and they make a nice custom risotto for me. The bartender is always a sweetie and they make an amazing drink called on the bloom. i find this place comforting and warm. read more

This place is small, romantic and warm. The downstairs bar is cozy, and the table upstairs large with an open feel. (Greenhouse type ceiling) Food is delicious and reasonably priced. Staff always friendly and helpful. Great place for a date or to meet friends for a drink. I love this place! read more

Go for the brunch; it's brilliantly tasty. Went there with a (now ex) girlfriend and a fellow couple, and we had an excellent time! Service was friendly, though a bit busy, and sitting on the roof-top in the sunshine is definitely where it's at. read more

I ordered a drink here, and they charged me for an more expensive version of the drink, without telling me that the lower priced one was unavailable. Then after saying they would take care of it (after having to ask to not pay for it, plus it was terrible), they eventually gave me another check with the correct amount. I just checked my bank statement. They charged me for two drinks...really ridiculous and unprofessional. Makes me wonder if this is something that is regularly done to customers. Please ask if your drink is what you ordered before actually drinking anything. read more

I came on a Saturday night (my bday) after my first attempt (fire n ice) was way too long of a wait. I wandered Harvard and found this place n thought the name was cool. So we checked it out for dinner. We were seated right away and drinks were served very quick :) We both got pasta dishes that were deliscious and not too pricey. The crowd seemed nice but some appeared to be snooty upper class yuppies. The rest of the crowd was average people though. The waiter was quick n efficient but didn't know all that much about the menu. He must have been new or something. All in all a good time and I'd definately go back. yummy food and dessert was a hot brownie w/vanilla ice cream. Can't beat that. read more

This place allows cigarette smoking on the roof after 10:30 PM. But not cigars, because they smell bad and cigarettes don't.

Walked in and asked for guacamole (not listed on menu). Received a freshly made order of guacamole and freshly made tortilla chips! Both were amazing. Incredible service! I'll definitely return. read more

I've been here four times now and have always liked it. It's good, basic bar food, have plenty of vegetarian options and good bar space. I've been here a couple of times for football games and enjoy it, since there are few people at the bar during those times, and you can get a good seat. I would suggest. read more

I tried the roof-top brunch today and was impressed there were a number of gluten-free or wheat-free options (even one bottle beer and a ton of cocktails). It seemed that a number of their breakfast choices that could hold their own without bread. I had the huevos rancheros with a side of homemade black refried beans, sour cream, and homefries (which I subbed for fries b/c of my allergy to cumin). The eggs were delicious on top of perfectly crisp tortillas, with lightly crunchy edges. This is not your typical fried taco salad bowl masquerading as traditional huevos rancheros! My only criticism is that they used sub-par salsa, which wasn't bad but I dropped a star because everything else had a cooked with love feeling except the bland & salty jarred salsa. I'll also admit I'm a huge fan of hot sauce and super spicy pepper style salsa so it was a little disappointing given the quality of everything else. I also give the roof top atmosphere a "WhooHoo! As good as it gets!" rating. The weather was perfect today, bright with a nice breeze... if I wasn't ruled by the parking meter I would have stayed and drank cocktails all afternoon. I'd definitely give this another spin, and am especially excited to try it at night. read more

Daedalus Restaurant - Asparagus salad with raspberry vinaigrette, omnomnom! - Pubs Near Me - Cambridge, Massachusetts

Came here at the suggestion of gentlemen I met over at Russell House Tavern, a nearby gastropub in Harvard Square. I swung by this place for drinks one night and came back the next to try the food. The rooftop patio is really nice, weather permitting. You can see some of the nearby buildings from the roof which add some character, and it's like nothing I'm used to being from Los Angeles. I really enjoyed the salmon special. A good sized, perfectly cooked filet along with rice and veggies. Damn, I'm actually salivating thinking about it right now as I write this here...catching up on reviews in a Delta Sky Club. The trail mix and cookies aren't quite as up to par. 4 stars since we were charged too much for the food we ordered. We were in a rush and didn't have time to argue over it. read more

Daedalus was PACKED after head of the charles but they squeezed my friend and me in a booth (there were 4 of us total). Thank you. HOWEVER they were keeping multiple tables open because there weren't enough waiters (said the hostess), so our friends just awkwardly stood next to us rather than letting us sit in a larger booth, so that was odd. The food was super fast, so points for that too. read more

Love Daedalus! This place is perfect because it's hidden on the outskirts of Harvard Square so it's not crazy packed like everywhere else. The best part though is their rooftop patio. It was so perfect for the gorgeous afternoon we had when I was there. Great cocktails and food as well. Our server was great and the host was really welcoming, too! read more

Awesome multi-level bar with pretty good service, and a damn good stella draught! make sure you go upstairs to the "rooftop bar" otherwise you'll be pretty much stuck in a tight squeeze. quick service, albeit a little more expensive than i was hoping. went for drinks, came out rather happy. money and time well-spent read more

Such a cute find in Harvard! My friend and I only got the drinks but they were strong and tasty. We went on a weds and were able to get a seat on their awesome rooftop, no problem. The server came over quite a few times too, which was nice. read more

Came here on a Friday night with a reservation for 4 people. The hostess was cold and unwelcoming. She told us that there was a hour + wait for the roof top. While we were seated, we saw multiple people walk upstairs. Besides the hostess's lack of friendly customer service which resulted in a negative first impression, our waitress and food were great. read more

There are times where al fresco/rooftop dining is worth compromising the food. To me, Daedalus would be the place for that. I would go here for the rooftop seating but not necessarily for the food. I have been here several times, on different occasions -- table seating on the first floor, the bar on the first floor, and the roof deck. Each time I was not impressed with the food (though not terrible), but did not regret the visit because of the atmosphere. Having said that, I'd return only the next time I feel like enjoying a summer night outside. read more

Came here for drinks and dinner with Friends. They have a decent selection of wine, cocktails and liquor on their menu. The interior is nicely decorated and there are two bars, one on each floor. Service was friendly and attentive. I had the Risotto which was very good and my husband had the Chicken in wine sauce which he liked a lot. I would definitely go back. It's also a good place for groups. read more

Great roofdeck. But the food? Passable; bland. Prices? The Harvard usual. Service? Adequate, certainly not welcoming. Perhaps dinner is more impressive but neither my dining companions' lunchtime tuna melt, dull salad, soggy truffle fries nor my own uninspired portobello and goat cheese sandwich warrant another visit among all the options in Harvard Square. read more

I've been here a handful of times. Everything about this place is average- service, food, drinks, roofdeck, not awful and not amazing. I go back because my friends go, but it's not my first choice. Much better places in Harvard Square. read more

This restaurant is a good place to grab drinks and some food. Nothing over the top fancy or spectacular, but friendly staff and a nice environment. I went there on a Saturday night and it was VERY loud in the upstairs, but that may be because the roof deck is closed for construction. Can't you do construction like that during the winter? read more

The appetizers we ate were decent, but the host and bar staff give off the vibe that they hate working there and sort of resent having that you're there for food/drinks. (Maybe not their fault -- could be angry management trickling down.) Was happy to wait 45 min for a table -- ordered $60 worth of food and drink while standing and waiting. After waiting happily for 1 hour with everyone drinking and eating appetizers, host says he'll now only seat us if I go confirm with everyone in the party (half of whom I've never met before) that they'll each eat more - otherwise he won't seat us. Gimme a break! We left and had a great time at The Sinclair. read more

What a great find! We had a leisurely dinner on the rooftop patio, away from the bustle of the main thoroughfare. An appetizer (salmon mango tacos) and a sandwich (crab cake) with their rosemary truffle fries was more than enough food for two. Our server (Greg!) was attentive and offered good suggestions. Excellent service! read more

I've enjoyed eating brunch on Daedalus' upstairs patio with out-of-town visitors on a few occasions. It feels quite secluded and somehow reminiscent of a seaside resort, despite being right in Harvard Square! The food is quite respectable American fare, a very reasonable value for the money and location, though I would not expect anything particularly creative or unique. Unfortunately, on our last visit, the service was horrible: the hostess seemed extremely angry at someone or something -- I've never been treated so rudely in a restaurant before! Meanwhile, the waitress seemed like a new trainee (I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt here), well-intentioned but awkward and spill-prone. I hope this is just a phase due to summertime staff turnover, as Daedalus is an option I'd like to have in the future. read more

One of my favorite roofdecks in the Boston area. Great food, great staff, reasonable prices, quiet setting in the trees, no pretensions. Wish there were more places like this around town. read more

This place is good for drinks but the waitress Olivia is really rude . We had to ask for every round of drinks and food. They can't split the bill among 3 of us which was told to us in a rude way. Rooftop is good. read more

I haven't done the bar scene much, although it has been pleasant when I did. But I have eaten upstairs several times, and think the quality and the imagination in the food is exceptional. Yes they have "pub grub", but their entrees are a step above. In particular, risottos of various interesting types are excellent. You do pay for what you get - entrees are pushing $20, add a salad (the inclusive salad seems to be a dead deal these days) and it's not cheap eats, but it's very good. read more

Love does not begin to explain my feelings for Daedalus. It is, by far, my favourite restaurant in harvard square. The highlight of the restaurant/bar is the rooftop deck. There is no better place to be on beautiful summer day. The menu is excellent. I am a big fan of their fish and chips (Not greasy!) Waiters and Management are top notch. While they have a good selection of beers, they no longer serve Newcastle on tap which makes me tear up just a little... I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too.... read more

I really want to like this place, the roof deck is glorious in the summer and we've even come in the autumn, where the aft tables have heat lamps. My first few experiences were similar to the review, ok food, ok booze, service on the crappier side. The last several times we've tried to come here the service has been beyond horrible. Experience 1: It was a beautiful day outside and we wanted to enjoy the weather. We called 5 hours ahead to make a reservation, they seat us upstairs despite wanting to wait for a roof deck, we ask if we can sit and put our names down to sit outside, they say no, we ask if we can get drinks and wait to seat outside, they say no because we've already sat down. The A/C was up so high everyone in our party was freezing, we ask to move downstairs where it was warmer. We ask to be seated by the window, figuring it wasn't a problem due to the large number of open tables, they say no and seat us as far away as possible. On top of it, we were told by the end there was no space on the roof deck for the rest of the night, but as we leave we overhear another group get quoted a time of 30 minutes. We are not rude, or loud clients. Customer "service" here is laughable. 2nd Experience: My girlfriend tried to go with a few of her friends, they are told that the roofdeck won't be open until 1030 and they consent to wait. As they are requesting seating, the hostess tells them they can only sit outside if everyone is eating. Half the party has already eaten dinner and the other half is starving. The waitress has to go check with a manager and then they finally consent to seating everyone outside. Once they get outside, most of the roofdeck is empty. Mixed drinks here are slightly above average, beer selection is average, food is subpar to average. Plenty of other restaurants in boston with outdoor seating, maybe not a roofdeck, but lots of patios, with better food, better service and better drinks. You're better off spending your money with a restaurant that appreciates you for spending your hard earned money. read more

Great roofdeck, bad food (for the upmarket place they're trying to be), bad service, not cheap. Best use: for a beer or cocktail on the top floor during cold-weather months, because you need to order dinner in order to sit outside. read more

The food is decent, but it's the rooftop that really makes this place shine. It's an absolute must-go when the weather is nice. It is kind of off the beaten path too, so it's not overwhelmed with tourists even though it's right next to all the other slightly more well known bars and restaurants. read more

Location and roof top are nice, but the staff is incompetent. There are tables that have been open for over 20 minutes now but the hostess isn't seating anyone there unless you put your name on a list for a 45 minute wait. When we asked her why we can't take the table when it is clearly empty, she said it 'takes a while to seat people.' It must certainly take a while since the table is still empty. The waiters are either afraid of talking to the hostess directly or don't communicate clearly about what's available upstairs. Would rather go to Felipe's rather than deal with passive aggressive staff here. read more

I love the food. I really, really do. To the point that I wish I didn't check my credit card statement--during my last visit, Daedalus charged me more than I had written down as my total (tip + check). 97 cents more than they should've. Now before you suggest that they might've misread the numbers, I want you to know that it's pretty hard to mistake two zeros for a nine and a seven. Just saying. I heard that restaurants will add a dollar or a couple of cents to a credit card charge because most people don't notice. Unfortunately, I did. It's so petty to the point that I feel silly calling them and giving them shit about it, but it's so unacceptable that I want everyone to DOUBLE CHECK THEIR BILLS. Why are all Cambridge joints sketch like this? Restaurants in the Bay Area, not matter how shitty the service, never do sneaky shady stuff like this. read more

Daedalus is close to us in Cambridge...In fact, it's the closest restaurant to our apartment. It's usually quite good - especially if you can sit outdoors. A couple years ago it was more hit and miss, but now I find it quite reliable! They also have a good drink menu, nice beers on tap, and I love their salads. A couple of times we have had work lunches here, and my department really enjoys going. It can get crowded though, with lots of business school students! read more

Daedalus-- 4 stars during spring or summer, 2 during winter... The main attraction here is the rooftop deck. During a nice night, this is a great place to grab a couple of beers and enjoy the atmosphere and the view. The food here is pretty standard pub fair. It's fine, but not spectacular. The cocktails can be a little disappointing. As compared to the other bars in the Harvard Square area (Grafton, Russel House, Park, Beat Hotel) I think Daedalus loses as far as food and drinks are concerned, but is the only one to offer an extensive outdoor terrace. It's a mainstay if you find yourself in the Harvard area during the summer. Watch for big crowds and long waits during the few weeks when school is in session and the weather is nice. read more
