After deploying to Korea for 3 months in 2015, my husband has been on the hunt to find a restaurant with the same authentic experience and flavor as Korea. With Havana hosting the most popular Korean joints, we decided on DAE GEE for the full experience to celebrate his birthday. SPACE/LOCATION: Located off Jewell and Havana, this little restaurant, isn't so little once you enter. In fact, the space is large! While the main dining room is small, the two attached wings are huge and accommodate parties large and small. The space offers ample seating and provides the coolest breeze from the open windows. While décor is minimal, it offers a peek into the history and origin behind the restaurant and is adamant about you - the diner - pigging out there! Parking can be tricky, as the space is located next door to a 7 eleven and surrounding businesses, so be prepared! BOOZE: All hail Soju! Having had the famed cocktail only once (when the hubs brought home a gallon of it from Korea!), I was excited to sample the various flavors offered. We settled on a bottle of Apple Soju, to which we sipped (and took shots of) throughout our meal. At 12% alcohol, they are delicious, but potent. Also, on the menu - various rice wines, traditional wines, sake and beer. Come on, come all! FOOD: Oh, my dear god. Never have I ever had this much fun. Meaning "pig" in Korean, Dae Gee offers traditional Korean dishes blended with American culture. While the menu features already made entrée's (all of which were seriously drool-worthy), we decided to grill up our own meal for a change. We opted for the all-you-can-eat dinner for two, which featured unlimited cuts of pork belly, pork bulgogi, rib-eye beef, chicken and brisket - with an order of short ribs! To accompany the meats, are a variety of sides - rice, cabbage kimchee, cucumber kimchee, potato salad, fermented onion and jalapenos, a kimchee pancake, pickled Korean radishes, fish cakes with vegetables and a dried white chili radish!! Because we were told the grilling process takes a while, we also ordered the dumplings as an appetizer to get our tummies ready! The meats were delicious, perfectly seasoned and melt-in-your-mouth tender! The short ribs were a favorite by far, with the pork belly close behind it. Three types of sauce are offered at each table, which are perfect for marinating, smothering or dipping! The experience allows you to sit back, have a cocktail and good conversation while grilling up a killer meal. PORTIONS: Now I know what you're thinking - how can two people eat this much food? To be honest, we couldn't! After round one, we were stuffed but felt compelled to go another round, just for the sake of it. Soon enough, I got the meat sweats, so stopping was a must! Our sweet waiter, knowing we were newbies at this, snuck us over a to-go box to bring home the extra goodness. Take note - one round, goes a LONG way! If you value your privacy, don't go to dine in. Their website says you have to sign a waiver of liability. Upon arrival I found they require each person to provide their full name, email, and phone number to a third- party website to respond to C19 symptom questions. Then Staff must SEE each confirmation for each person...except little babies...before they seat your party. All this happens in the tiny space by the door, next to tables and the bar...where you can't socially distance. This third-party's site says they shouldn't be collecting info for anyone under 16. Also, the website SELLS your information and nothing goes to the CDC. Why not just have staff ask each person to confirm C19 questions and/or take temps like every other restaurant in the area. Also, don't bother checking in through Yelp. Even though Yelp lets you join the waiting list the restaurant isn't actually using Yelp. We've eaten here many times before COVID because the food is decent and I have hungry teenagers so the unlimited BBQ was perfect. We won't be going back after this experience. You will start out with a bunch of small plate appetizers such as kimchi, Asian potato salad, tofu, beef stew, vegetables, etc. all wonderfully delicious! Then comes my fav... the rice and all the tender, high quality, well seasoned meats. The kalbi short ribs are my absolute fave along with the pork belly. This place is a carnivore's paradise!!! I wish this place had better ventilation. It was freezing, but he food was so yum! Make sure you used the gas grills in the first floor cause the electric grills are slower. We had the AYCE BBQ. The short ribs were def the best, but the spicy pork was also pretty tasty! There was definitely plenty of food to go around for he four of us. We reordered everything once and got more spicy pork at the end. This is definitely not a quick meal, you have to spare at least an hour for this place. But good food takes time to enjoy. The banchan was good, with the kimchi pancake being the star, although I wish it were fresh. The cucumber kimchi was also very tasty and very refreshing between bites of meat. This is our go to Korean BBQ place. It's near where I live so that convenient. The first time I went, my boyfriend and I went during a week day around 3pm. There was no wait and the place was empty. We ordered a piggy plate and some chicken. Oh man! We definitely could have just gone with one plate. But that is fine because they do offer take out boxes when you just order plates. We went recently on my birthday and it was a Friday night. The place was crowded, they took our temperatures to make sure we didn't have any fevers. And sat us down immediately. I wanted to pig out since it was my birthday so we got the unlimited. Now, keep in mind, they DO NOT offer to go boxes when you get the unlimited meat. Terribe While the service is outstanding with a cool atmosphere, the quality and authenticity of the food is analogous to that which would be expected from Peking Tokyo in the panhandle of Oklahoma. The Bibimbap was dry with no flavor. The BBQ was fair at best (although the bbq sauce was tasty). But wait, there's more. I've been coming here for years and am really surprised how terrible the service has become here. I went for lunch and ordered a lunch plate instead of the normal AYCE. ($15.00 vs $30.00) When the check arrived, imagine my surprise when the amount was for the dinner portion $30 rate! The server (Devin) claimed that I had ordered the dinner portion and I pointed out to him, Why would I do that when it was lunch time and furthermore, why wouldn't I just order the AYCE $30 lunch rate instead. I asked to speak to his manager and he claimed that she wasn't available. He mumbled something unintelligible and went back to the register and came back a few minutes later and said that his manager had authorized him to offer a 20% off the meal. I told him that wasn't acceptable and that I wanted to speak to the manager. I then asked for the manager's phone number and he refused. I looked up the number for the DaGae on Colorado boulevard and spoke to the hostess there who gave me the number for their manager and I left a message with that person. Devin is now pacing back and forth and comes up to me and says that he's going to call the police if I don't leave. I told him to call the police... I waited around for about 30 minutes and no police. The manager from the other restaurant called me back and told me that it was all a big mistake and that they had a recent change to the menu and that I would be billed for the lunch rate. Devin is looking pretty flustered now and is fumbling at the register when lo and behold his manager (Rose) appears in punches a few keys on the register to print a new check for the correct lunch rate. This restaurant's authenticity of food and culture is impressive. I love the restaurant set-up, kinda feels like you could be in Korea. Their current menu focuses on the bbq and main popular dishes, not that much variety as I've seen compared to other Korean restaurants. So, this is the perfect place for a good ole BBQ grill social time with friends and family. They also make their own sauces, a variety of them, which you may purchase by the bottle. And don't forget the soju! The dining tables were distanced during the pandemic. Therefore, dine in is very limited especially if you have a big party. Some side dishes were not in good condition. I tasted one of the cucumber kimchi. It was supposed to be my favorite side dish, but I was sure that the cucumber I had was going bad and had a unusual sour taste (not vinegar). Went here for lunch while I was on a business trip. I don't get to go to many Korean BBQ restaurants where I'm from, so it's always awesome to find a good one while out if state! The restaurant itself is super cute. The setting reminded me of actual restaurants in Seoul. The food itself was delicious and there were plenty of Banchan to pick from! We did the all you can eat lunch special and after ordering a couple extra rounds of meat, we were both completely stuffed! First time eating KOREAN BBQ in Denver and chose Dae Gee. Totally awesome service, food and experience! We did the full on bbq at the table. Tried the bulgogi and the short ribs. All the sides were good except the potato salad, that was bland and few potatoes. I didn't miss it though. Meat was perfectly marinated and we loved the cucumber kimchee, pickled radish and tofu. Great portion sizes and the menu is solid from top to bottom. Beyond just the AYCE BBQ, the entrees are definitely worth a try - my favorites are the dolsot bibimbap (get it with short rib or beef) and the bean paste stew. Authentic Korean food at a very reasonable price - that's hard to find anywhere, and especially around Denver! They have additional locations in Ft. Collins, Arvada, and downtown Denver but I find myself going to the Aurora location most often. Keep in mind it can get busy during peak dinner hours, so plan accordingly, as there's not a ton to do in the immediate area! read more

He hit the restroom and told me he wanted the AYCE BBQ. Well, after eating this meal, none that I was that fond of, although the chicken was tasty, THE BILL CAME. LUNCH mind you. $99.98. They charged us for TWO BBQ's. I argued that the waitress said the meal I ordered for my friend was for 2 people. He replied "Well, did you eat the food?" I felt like I was on Judge Judy, only the answer is clearly "of course I did! I was told that the meal was for 2. I argued and argued until he called the manager and was still told that they weren't backing down. I paid the bill and left. This is clearly a scam and I hate scams. Don't go here. We were happy that they were able to accommodate our table because with my BF's mom she can't eat that much and let her order a bibibap while we enjoyed their delicious meats. All you can eat Korean BBQ, but is it really? You get only 1 serving of beef ribs, and all you can eat other types of meats. Most AYCE Korean BBQ consist of meat, sides, and seafood. But this place has only 4-5 different types of meats to choose from, 6-7 different sides, and lettuce. The table's size is way too small. A table for 4 is too small for a party of 2. Because of the meat, side dishes, lettuce, and sauces, you can't fit everything on it. There are 2 seating area, and the 2nd seating area does not have any vents. You know what that means, BBQ + no vents. You will smell like smoke, and you can't breathe. The grill itself does not get hot fast, so you end up boiling the meat instead of grilling the meat. This may sound like a bashing review. The concept is great, but executed very bad. For the price of $30, I can just pay at a non-AYCE like Seoul BBQ for better quality meat and much more selection. read more

Probably my favorite Dae Gee location to date! I love that I don't have to drive to Denver to visit one and worry about street parking, this is a perfect neighborhood location for Dae Gee right in the heart of K town (ok, really Havana Street that hosts a number of Korean places) in Aurora. This used to be another Korean joint but they gutted it out and made it more modern and along the lines of other Dae Gee's. You can get a table with a grill so you can take part in their awesome AYCE meat which really is the best value. We really pigged out and feasted on the sides, bulgogi, spicy pork, short ribs (these are NOT unlimited so cherish every delicious bite!) and chicken thighs. Be sure to order with your stomach and not your eyes because they charge for unused/uneaten beats. Staff as always, is great, energetic and friendly. Parking can be a little hit or miss due to the size of the shopping center it's in but we've never had an issue when coming to establishments here. read more

Well, I think I'm officially just not into Korean food as I've tried it several times in several different places and it's just too much vinegar and sugar for my liking. That being said, this was the best experience I've had at a Korean restaurant. We went for the All-You-Can-Eat lunch, which was reasonably priced at $18 per person. The service was friendly and our server did a great job keeping up with our drinks and BBQ refill requests. He was knowledgeable about the food and went out of his way to find out ingredients to the side dishes when we asked. Despite the food itself not really being my cup of tea, the quality seemed to be high here. Their patio has giant garage doors and would make a great place to hang out in the summer. Korean BBQ is always a fun and exotic event for the uninitiated. From the strange cooking device in the middle of the table, to the variety of side dishes, to the various spiced meats on offer. Dae Gee does a good job of showcasing this cuisine. My family and I did the unlimited, because it seemed simple enough and was a good value relative to the pricing of entrees in the menu. However, I will have to return on my own because they have a kimchi soup (stew) that looked absolutely divine and Guy Fieri loved it. As for the meats - stick with the bogogi and the spiced pork. They both cook fast and are super tasty. DAE GEE's kimchi is fantastic - great flavor and not too spicy (though that would be fine), so go ahead and ask for extra when you order. Service can be a bit slow once your table has all the initial servings from all you can eat, so bear that in mind. read more

First, the food was enjoyable, authentic, yummy and reminded me of Korean food I've had in big cities. The 3-stars overall took into account the service. Our waiter, a bleached-blond Korean-American young man, was not rude, yet seemed like he had already checked out for the night. We came in a group of 8 for the unlimited BBQ and, at times, it seemed like we were mistaken for Lilliputians. Examples were getting small food dishes the size of a coaster, which we apparently were expected to split amongst ourselves. After devouring the meager offerings on the coaster plate in two bites, we asked the previously-mentioned waiter for more; only to get a 'geez, already?!?' look. Additionally, upon asking for a cleaning/changing of the grill plate, our waiter advised us that 'it'd be best to wait until the next round of food'. Leaving us to our charred/greasy grill plate, we fended for ourselves until he returned, finally cleaning it. In summary, no complaints on the food, and the bleached-blond waiter wasn't 'bad', he just seemed kind of 1/2-assed at times, treating us like we were Korean bbq newbies, even though my wife and I have dined at countless Korean bbq joints and are hip-to-the-hop when it comes to Korean food. read more
