So this was my second time here. The first time I wasn't impressed, it was years ago and I don't remember what I even ordered but I do remember it wasn't your typical type of like teriyaki spot. Anyway, came back and ordered orange chicken, a sushi roll, pineapple chicken rice, and chicken katsu. So second time around I will say it's not really Hawaiian food it's more of Asian fusion. It's not flavor like what you get at like Ono or L&L. The Katsu was ok, it wasn't very hot/fresh, just warm. The Mac salad had a weird flavor. So the pineapple chicken rice was really good! And the orange chicken was good too. The orange sauce was very flavorful. The sushi was good, not bad, Hard to mess it up. Anyway the portions for the rice and orange chicken were nice size too! This place is a few miles away from our home. My hubby wanted the Ramen and I discouraged it because I thought it was going to be tasteless broth with microwave pork belly and I was wrong! Glad he didn't listen. They clearly make the Tonkotsu broth which is a pork bone broth they cook for hours. So flavorful and the pork belly was also tender with a lot of flavor. I only gave it 4 stars because we also ordered the Kalbi ribs and they were so good but the macaroni salad lacked flavour, was dry and the carrots didn't appear to be fresh. This is my favorite soul food spot in North Phoenix! Having been raised on Hawaiian BBQ, this joint has a special place in my heart. My go to is the chicken katsu with macaroni salad, and a coconut boba smoothie. The one thing to be cautious of, is that this place closes 19:30 (7:30pm) so make sure you order ahead or arrive accordingly. Loco Moco is one of my favorite Hawaiian hangover dishes (basically hamburger patty, rice, brown gravy and sometimes fried egg and green onions) and this version was great! This is good stuff I would order again. The very familiar Chicken Katsu was basic and the coating was a little too thick and did not have that crisp outside associated with Katsu. The sauce was pungent also. DONT EAT THIS. Chicken Teriyaki, EAT THIS! Great flavor and while I only butchered 2 small pieces because it is made with dark meat I would order this again if I could have it made with white meat. Kahuku stir-fried garlic shrimp...EAT THIS! Seriously delish. Mixed with cabbage, this dish it packed with great flavor and paired perfectly with the sticky white rice. The staple macaroni salad is good also, slivers of carrots, scallions and the large macaroni noodles were al-dente. I had no idea the Hawaiians were doing it like this. I was looking forward to dining here after learning that they served moco loco. I was surprised to find out that their version used what tasted exactly like Banquet Salisbury steak. The patti was previously frozen. And the sauce was Salisbury sauce. The eggs were over cooked. They should have been over easy or even sunny side up. These were cooked ask the way through. The food choices here are great. I tried the teriyaki chicken bowl and you can tell the quality of food it had. I came back a week later and had the Ninja Bowl that I was waiting to try. Just had lunch here and I can tell you the whole family was extremely impressed, even our picky 9 yr old. I had the large Ninja bowl and it was delicious (and huge. Next time I'll get the small). Rice was perfect and chicken was tender. Sauce was what a was hoping for...savory with a little sweet. My husband got the LocoMoco with a side of macaroni salad. The sauce wasn't what we were expecting but was even better. Loved the Mac salad also. My son had the Katsu chicken and he described the sauce as A1 plus pineapple. The chicken teryaki was dark meat, and grilled, the sauce was so good! I know this sounds weird, but it is so difficult to find a good chicken teryaki plate/bowl, anything in AZ! I also ordered two smoothies, one with boba. One without. They were both very creamy and refreshing. This is a much needed stop if youre hungry. The only downside is that they close early. Very disappointed with their food. I was wanting some comfort home food, I'm from Hawai'i and was craving some Hawaiian grilled food. I should've looked into the reviews more but saw that this place had 4 stars and thought this would be a good place to get my fix. I got curry chicken katsu and my boyfriend got fried fish. Honestly felt like I paid for the rice and the breading! My chicken was very thin sliced with very thick breading and very dry and my boyfriend said the same thing with his fried fish. Honestly felt like frozen food just warmed up in the microwave. And the Mac salad was trash! I also got a spicy hand roll and I never in my life had a sushi hand roll with no rice in it and it wasn't raw fish either but canned tuna! I'm sorry but this is food I'd feed to my dogs. My first visit I had the pineapple chicken nuggets and it couldn't have more flavorful and perfect!! The lady who owns the place, Lisa, runs the register and makes suggestions on things to purchase. Food: I always consider price v. food quality. For a meal with, it will run you about $7-$9. The portions are decent, and I've never found myself to be hungry after eating. Meals involving shrimp about $10. As the food is decent, you get large enough portions, and the price is good, i would definitely say this place is worth a stop.
