A native gem. Only heard Italian. Classic dishes. Nothing fancy but so good, starting with the fried rice/cheese balls. Because it's not fancy, I think it gets a little lower rating than most. But that's why we loved it. Felt real Italian old school, and the geriatric waiter was a total charmer. What sealed the deal is that we came at 9 o'clock at night and sat at the edge of the outdoor seating on the plaza San Ignazio, which is a fantastic artistic expression of urban Baroque architecture, facing a massive church. Our server was an extremely friendly older Italian man who was making us laugh the entire time. Service is phenomenal, seriously they are so so kind and friendly, food is outstanding, and the ambiance is so inviting. I am genuinely shocked at all the one star reviews, especially the ones complaining about the service... Idk what to tell you they're the best. Also their cheesecake??? Witchcraft I tell you. One of the greatest things I've probably ever tasted and I'll have you know that is a HIGH bar. TLDR: Absolutely go here and be sure to get the cheesecake. read more

Da Sabatino's is one of the best keep secrets in Roma. As a younger dinner in the 1990-today the charm and of course the food is five star. The restaurant is directly across the street from Ignazio Church which is a must visit. The arancini, tomato and mozzarella, and the bruschetta as starters are fantastic. Any of the homemade pasta's are great, but the pasta carbonara was a foodies dream. We also had the chicken piccata and it to was excellent. The fresh tasting Italian wines are not to be forgotten. Look inside on the walls and you may find the great history of our past visits. A must experience! read more

We had a day to spend in Rome on our way to Athens and we're craving some of the great food we enjoyed during our last visit to Italy. From our experiences, you can go almost anywhere and get really good food especially if it's pasta. That wasn't good enough-we wanted great food. Da Sabatino is located in a great area close to the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps. We arrived just before they were scheduled to open and were welcomed and seated immediately. Bread, olive oil and water were brought while we studied the wine list. The difficult part was deciding what to order because "you can't have it all". My fettuccine bolognese was a perfect combination of wonderful pasta and meat sauce. Rich flavors with a "to die" for pasta made me wish I had two orders. My wife equally enjoyed her spaghetti al pomodoro. Our friends both ordered veal saltimbocca. Their dishes were enjoyed as much as ours and were perfectly prepared. Of course a bottle wine capped off a fantastic meal. Service was superb and prices were extremely reasonable. We return to Rome in a couple weeks as our vacation comes to an end. We'll probably come back here even though it's so much fun to try new restaurants. read more

I thought the food was good but really didn't care for the service or the pricing. Every other place we've been to this week was so accommodating and friendly. She offered us the mixed starter, which was 12 euros, but didn't point out that it was 12 euros per person. It was really not worth that. The ambiance/seating area looked beautiful but that's where it ended. The service was poor and the food not nearly what other restaurants offered. My dish was Carbonara and the sauce had separated... the Cacio e Pepe was good but notably el Dente. We had to ask for everything... would not go back.... The owner writes your check on a handwritten note but you don't get to examine for accuracy. We thought we were overcharged. Not reliable. Chose another restaurant!! read more

This restaurant is located in the heart of Old Rome, right beside a beautiful church. The server was very nice throughout the whole time. We order three dishes: Ossobuco with risoto and Chicken with potatoes (EU$15 each) and Pene Carbonara (EU$10). The food was okay, nothing special. I found both the Aperol Spritz (EU$10) and the desert (EU$8) bit pricy. They added EU$12 to the bill for service (?), which should have been mentioned beforehand. read more

My husband and I had dinner here with local relatives. You know it's legit when locals eat there! First, I've read some of the negative reviews and I disagree. In Rome, it's not custom to get free tapas/appetizers outside of bread nor olive oil (unless requested). A member of our group was vegetarian and they were very accommodating of his needs when clearly explained. The food is very delicious and the service was excellent. The caccio e pepe is my absolute favorite and they taught us how it's cooked "right" (hint: mix some of the boiling pasta water into the cheese, stir and let it simmer before mixing into the noodles). Excellent food, we really liked this place! First of all, they give you bruschetta, arancini and a big bread ball on the house as starters! They were all excellent. We ordered some prosecco, it was a little dry but good. We ordered lasagna, cacio e pepe and a mushroom pizza. The lasagna needed a little more meat but other than that it was very cheesy and good. The cacio e Pepe was good but needed more cheese. After adding Parmesan to it, it was excellent. We really enjoyed it. The mushroom pizza was excellent. It was thin and durable with lots of flavor. The crust was excellent. One of the best pizzerias in Rome. We were too full to order dessert but as they're giving you the check they give you these EXCELLENT chocolate chip biscuits. They're warm and soft like cakes. They were crazy good. My dad doesn't even like cookies or cakes but loved these! This place is worth a visit! read more

OMG! First meal in Italy. I asked server best pasta he recommends. Appetizers were ok. The pasta I ordered don't remember the name. It was Super Salty and raw inside. This is one of my all-time favorite restaurants in Rome - so much so that I am almost reticent to review it instead of keeping it a secret! It is in Piazza San Ignazio, across from San Ignazio (the church of Saint Ignatius), but somehow, it feels off the beaten path and is not touristy. Each time I am there, I am the only one speaking English (to my husband - it's certainly not on the menu or in the air!). This makes for an authentic, relaxing, delicious Roman meal each time without breaking the bank at a "boutique" restaurant. Whether it is Roman classics like cacio e pepe or amatriciana, or a bottle of the house wine with some mozzarella and vegetables, everything is beautifully prepared and beyond delicious. You can sit in a gorgeous piazza and watch the world go by, enjoy the chatter of locals at lunch or dinner, and feel truly immersed in a more casual, truly Italian setting. The staff is also very hospitable and clearly takes pride in the community they've built around this restaurant. read more

Fettuccine was bland and chicken was extremely dry with a few potatoes thrown in the side for good measure. We received bread but no complimentary appetizers or olive oil. Best dinner in Rome on a quiet and beautiful piazza. I am an American that had lived in Rome for a couple months when I studied abroad here and this brought back very positive memories. My family and I were exploring Italy on our own, visiting both the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. This was roughly right between the two. We stumbled upon the Basilica of St. Ignazio and we were just blown away how hidden away and beautiful that church is. We ended up spending more time than we thought we would there, so we went to this establishment right across the piazza to grab some food. We were just as surprised at this restaurant as we were with the church. Their pasta pomodoro and their pasta bolognese is the best I tasted on our trip to Italy. Fresh but still filling with strong but not overpowering tastes. Also, the parmesan they serve with you is some of the best I've ever had anywhere. My mother in law had a very tasty vegetable soup, and my wife had a very large salad (both very solid). The prices were reasonable, nothing particularly outlandish. They finished our meal with complementary cherries and biscuits (they looked like muffin tops crossed with scones... and tasted somewhere in-between but even better). The atmosphere felt very authentic without trying too hard. Both the decor inside and the backdrop of the piazza and the church really make this feel like a hidden gem. The service was excellent, efficient, and very welcoming. (one waiter was constantly singing while he served us and other tables, another loved cracking jokes) When I come back to Rome, this is definitely one place I'll definitely come back to. read more

Best dinner we had in Rome. Our tour guide at the Vatican recommended this place so we knew we had to try it before we left. It is set on a quiet, romantic piazza (San Ignacio). There was no traffic on the night we were there. The buildings and church facing the piazza are beautiful and make a great back drop for the amazing food. We were welcomed in and sat immediately. The waiter was so warm and friendly and fun to chat with. He spoke fluent English too, which was an unexpected plus (just made it easier to chat with him). Some complimentary appetizers came out first. Arancini, bruschetta, and a giant pillow of bread. Delicious! We ordered the house red wine, not really knowing what to expect as it wasn't on the menu. It was incredible. So we figured it was going to be pricey. It was 18 euro. I was thinking it would be easily $60! Just amazing We ordered some simple food, lasagne which our waiter recommended and a pizza. Both were the best we had in Rome. Just delicious. The sauce on the lasagne was incredible. We finished off with tiramisu which was to die for. Neither of us usually goes for tiramisu but we agreed this was an outstanding finale. Check this place out. We found this adorable restaurant like all the others, just wandering around the area. Initially we came for lunch after a long morning touring the Colosseum and forum. We sat inside in the a/c which was wonderful as it was 90 degrees outside. Ordered simply a caprese salad and a couple of margarita pizzas. Absolutely delicious. Best pizza of the entire trip. We made a reservation for later that evening to dine outside which sits outside a church entrance in a lovely and quiet plaza. Mostly locals at the restaurant which is always a great sign. Dinner was fabulous, we all ordered different pasta dishes and they were equally as wonderful as the pizza for lunch. After sampling a multitude of pasta dishes and pizzas from local restaurants, we decided to return for lunch on our final day. One of my favorite little spots in Rome! I stumbled upon this gem on my first day in the city and ended up eating there for at least one meal everyday that I was in town. The food is excellent and the service is even better. The staff makes you feel like you're at home. This is far from being a tourist trap. On the contrary I only saw locals when we had the pleasure of having supper at Sabatino. I had the Cacio e Pepe and my better half had gnocchi with mushrooms. Both dishes were authentic and absolutely mouth watering delicious ! We decided to skip dessert but our awesome waiter brought us their homemade warm ricotta and choc chip cookies. Went here on the advice of our concierge as one of his personal favorites in our second night in Rome. It exceeded our expectations in every possible way! The atmosphere is cozy and friendly. Our waiter was excellent and spoke great English. He brought us complimentary bruschetta, focaccia and a deep fried rice and cheese appetizer. All were wonderful. He recommended the carbonara which was excellent. Our daughters split a margarita pizza. We also had cappuccino, tiramisu and Mille feuille for dessert. All were excellent. They brought out complimentary hot chocolate biscuits for dipping in our cappuccino. YUM! Highly recommend this place. We get great food and service in Dallas so it's very hard to impress us but this place knocked it out of the park in every way. Go. You will not regret it. This is not a touristy place.
