Being from Yorba Linda and having limited food options, this is one of the only Korean restaurants in the area and they do not disappoint. They have a great selection of dishes from naengmyun to bossam to yuksu bulgogi to fill all your cravings. The banchan spread is quite basic but they do give you pajeon which is nice and crispy. It can get busy at times so order ahead! I had to wait over 30 minutes for a takeout meal during dinner time on a weekday. Cute mom and pop Korean restaurant that has a couple vegan options. We went on a weekday and were seated pretty quickly. The restaurant was occupied by mostly Korean folks so the place seemed promising. We asked about their vegan options and they said they could make the veggie tofu soup with water base and they had veggie bibimbap but remove the egg. From the banchan, the bean sprouts and spicy cucumber were safe to eat. My partner liked his veggie tofu soup although he said the spiciest options wasn't really that spicy. The veggie bibimbap was a bit pricey ($20) and I had to remove the egg, but it was a large portion of food, had a good amount of veggies in it, and came with spicy chili sauce . I love the quality and quantity of food and side dishes this restaurant gives you (before and after the pandemic). The soups are so comforting and tasty. I especially like their gamjatang (pork bone soup). You can get sundubu (tofu stew) by itself at any spiciness you like or upgrade to a combo with bulgolgi, chicken or galbi. The tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) is so good and they give you a lot! Their menu has a lot of variety and covers all my Korean food cravings! They are following all proper social distancing & mask policies. Call on the phone for takeout, it's pretty quick. You can ask for curbside pickup & they will bring it to your car. Wait outside by the table when picking up for safety. They box the food really well too. The thing that surprised me the most is they still give you all their sides for takeout! The first time I went there, I didn't like it at all, however, someone wrote a good review in the buzz so we gave it a second chance. My husband really loves their soup, however in the restaurant business there are two very important elements, good food and great customer service. The food is decent but the customer services is awful and specifically today it was the WORST!!! I do not speak Korean but I can heard how nice they sound and treat their Korean customers but not us. Today we took our kids visiting here from San Diego and our experience was so disappointing. They forgot my daughter's order!!! And when we asked they only said "yeah yeah" and kept avoiding us and serving all the other tables! We were almost done eating when they finally brought my daughter's soup !!! we didn't get any special anything for being 45 minutes late!!! My best friend is Korean and she told me not to go there but my husband loves their soup. They're also so stingy When I asked for boxes and today was no different, however the Korean people sitting next to us got big boxes and many of them, when I asked for one more they always say no and walk away. If you want to be in business in a very mixed cultural city, you have to treat everyone nice not just people you choose to be nice to!!! My analyses of restaurants lately have shifted, and my lens now tends to be more focused on how well a restaurant practices COVID-19 safety precautions. For one, I prefer to support restaurants who are smart and thoughtful enough to continue to choose takeout only during this time. Da Rae is one of these restaurants prioritizing public safety over anything else. Integrity. Thank you. They implement curbside pick-up, they don't allow entry into the restaurant, they have two cups of pens labeled "clean" and "used" to sign credit card slips, they practice social distancing. They have hand sanitizer and even sell face shields. Based on these practices, I feel like I can trust what is happening behind the scenes as well. Right now, these are the things I care about the most in a restaurant. It's about time I write a review about this wonderful hidden gem! I've been coming here for years, and always been super satisfied. This is a more traditional Korean comfort food restaurant. I lived in S Korea for 2 years, and this restaurant brings back so many culinary memories! This particular trip, I ordered Soy Bean Paste Stew and Grilled Pacific Saury fish. And look at all the free banchan that comes with every meal! My all time favorite is the Soy Bean Paste Stew. Also, any of the stone Bibambaps are sizzling, hot & delicious! I've come here a couple of times before work and I always get the same thing. I either get kimchi jigae or sul lung tang. Their kimchi jigae reminds me of how my grandma makes it. Really salty so I need a lot of rice to go with it. Even though it's salty, I still enjoy it because it really reminds me of my grandma's cooking. One thing I love about Korean restaurants is they give you a bunch of free sides. They are usually all veggies so I don't feel bad indulging in them. This restaurant offers an array of traditional Korean dishes. I would love to try out their other stuff. They do have a minimum of $10 if you want to pay with card. Service wasn't bad. It is a small restaurant, but I've never had to wait to be seated. They do have a restroom. Been feeling under the weather lately and needed a little pop of flavor and color! What better than to stop by my favorite Korean spots to dine at. This was a small spot I had found a while I was a student at CSUF. Such a hidden gem! This place offers an array of delicious comfort Korean food. It offers the more well known tofu soups, barbeque on a hot stone, bimbimbap (rice in a stone pot with a variety of veggies and gochuchang), soups served in stone pots (galbi Tang and etc), braised dishes, and even my favorite Bossam (sliced pork belly served with cabbage and kimchi and bean paste)! Not only do they offer an eclectic selection of dishes, but they give you an assortment of colorful banchan that comes included with your entree! I'm obsessed with the soft cold tofu and scallion pancake they let you start with before your meal. They always change up the ban Chan and it always tastes super fresh, crisp, and just homemade. You can tell there is a ton of love embedded into each dish because of all the attention to detail.A plethora of colors pop from each dish which coincide the various flavors that will start exploding into your taste buds. The fermented kimchee and bean paste in some of the dishes bring the perfect amount of umami flavor and probiotics (cause that's what in right now, right?). That pungent yet clean and crisp taste of the kimchee, is amazing and differs from other places because it doesn't have that weird old refrigerator smell or nitrate taste. The variety is what really brings me back to this restaurant every time! They even serve alkaline water and quote as serving only organic products! I've tried everything from the spicy cod roe stew, Spicy rice cake, galbi tang, bossam (sliced pork belly served with Napa cabbage, spicy pickled radish, fermented bean paste and salted shrimp), tofu soup, galbi bbq, spicy pork bbq, and their cold noodles are fantastic! For dessert, they give you a nice little Korean tea with grains of rice steeped into a ginger syrup. Really nice palette cleanser! Service is really good and definitely the total flip side of most asian joints! Another great thing is prices are roughly $9-$20/person and you get a ton of food ! I went to visit my friend at CSUF and since it was raining when we visited, we were craving something soupy. I was about to drive us back to Rowland Heights for some tofu soup when this place popped up on yelp saying it was only around the corner! The location is in a small plaza behind Target. It is a small location but there was no wait when we went. We flagged someone down to seat us and went straight to ordering. The tofu soup was around $10 range and they have a whole lotta different entrees ranging from rice cakes to rice dishes to noodles. I wanted to order one of each kind! I looked over and noticed that their serving size was pretty big so I stuck with what I wanted when I walked in. Tofu soup. My friend ordered the ddukbokki and I ordered the kimchi and beef tofu soup. While waiting for our food, we were presented with a some cold tofu, scallion pancake and a whole lotta sides. Dig in! I enjoyed the sides and it complimented my soup and rice very well. The soup was tasty. It was very strong in the kimchi taste which I love and it came with an egg! Usually they charge extra for that. Comes with a bowl of white rice, not sure if you can substitute that or not. Normally at BCD or at YoungDong I would finish the whole serving of soup. But for some reason I felt like there was no end to it! I finished half and ended up taking half home. It was soo filling. My friend did the same with her ddukbokki. So definitely come check it out if you're in the area & in the mood for that. This is one of my favorite places to eat with my kids. When I was pregnant, they were one of the few restaurants I was able to eat at due to sensitive taste buds. They cook everything with pH water and everything is delicious. Service is quick. I haven't tried everything on the menu yet because it's pretty extensive but I'm working my way through it. On a drizzly day in SoCal, my friend and I were looking for a place to get korean tofu soup. This place came up and though I work at CSUF, I had never heard of it. It is in the same plaza as Target but kind of hidden behind the Izakaya Takasei. The service here is not the greatest in the sense that once you get your food, they won't come to your table unless you make a visible effort to get their attention. Some folks might prefer this, some don't. When I needed something I had to wave and wait quite a bit. I get it though, it seems like there's only two people being hostesses and they seem to also be running the restaurant. I got the Topokki and it was massive. I asked the lady before I ordered how big it was and she said one person can finish it. Perhaps she meant one very large and very hungry person because I ate half and took half home. The dish itself was good! The spicy was a little much for me to handle but eating it with the banchan helped. Next time I would also get a bowl of rice or something that isn't already covered in the sauce. My friend got the tofu soup and also said that the portion was huge. Every customer gets a complimentary scallion pancake, tofu soy sauce appetizer, and a rice based drink at the end. Ordered for take out during COVID; ordering via phone was pretty easy. However there was mild communication issues at the restaurant. There was no signage at the door so i entered the restaurant to pick up my food at the designated time (they told me come in 25 mins and this was during dinner on a Friday night); however i was quickly shooed outside. Maybe at the door would prevent confusion if they did not want customers to enter. Otherwise, the food was delish. They provide a generous portion of their side dishes so that you can still have a similar experience. Let's see they had the pickled cucumbers, pickled radish, kim chi, bean sprouts, fish cake, and a whole pancake. The pancake and seafood pancake (that we ordered) could have used a little more crisp, so i popped it in my air fryer for 5 mins. Dwaeji bolgogi (spicy BBQ pork) was a generous portion and the bibim naeng myeon (spicy cold noodle) hit the spot on a hot day. The noodles even came with the mildly sweet cold broth on the side. I went here with my brother as we both love Korean food and wanted something no frills and delicious. I got the pork tofu soup, which was flavorful, and the tofu itself tasty and soft as expected. The banchan was delicious as well. The portions here was just right, plus we loved the complimentary savory pancake appetizer. This felt really authentic to me and luckily it wasn't busy when we went on a Wednesday evening. The service was also quick and friendly. I wanted an All You Can Eat Korean barbecue place, but the one down the street had an hour and a half wait, and it was crowded and LOUD. So I tried this spot. I'm glad I did. When I drove up, it wasn't quite 5 yet and the place was completely empty. I almost left, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. Literally minutes after we sat down, the rest of the place filled up. Looks like we just beat the rush! The menu was a little confusing at first, but the lady serving us said we just had to order our main dishes and drinks and they'd bring everyone some sides. I'm a sucker for short ribs, do I ordered some. My +1 ordered barbecue beef and oyster tofu soup. Oh my gosh... the sides. EVERYTHING I could want in a Korean Barbecue establishment and more. They must have dropped off nearly a dozen bowls of sides off, most of which I wasn't familiar with. So it was an experience. And they were GOOD. And then they asked if we wanted more when we finished them. Between the two of us, we struggled to finish everything they gave us. The short ribs were simply amazing. Tasty cuts, full of flavor, sauteed just right. The beef was the same. The soup was spicy and warmed us up on a chilly night. The food wasn't cheap but it was well-portioned and tasted incredible.
