I came back here for another visit. Not looking at my previous reviews to see what I had, the previous 2 calzones I reviewed about were ordered again. They were the chick 'n bacon and danger zones. See previous review for similar thoughts on the chick 'n bacon zone. The danger zone was filled to capacity this time around (see previous review). The only issue with this specific calzone was the lack of taco seasoning present. One half had plenty of it while the other half was not seasoned at all. I was pleasantly surprised to find a calzone place near UConn that offers vegan options since there doesn't seem to be many veg options around campus. Last night I picked up the vegan time zone calzone (which has daiya cheese, peppers, mushrooms, and onions) it was a little too cheesy for me which is rare for me to say since I usually like cheesy stuff. It just felt like it was missing something too. If they offered vegan meat like vegan sausage or meatball then it prob would've tasted much better, but I still appreciate them just offering dairy free cheese. The real winner here was the cheese stix. I got the vegan version and it was really tasty. I haven't had good cheesy stix in a long time so my tummy was definitely happy with this. I would for sure go back for it again next time I am up there visiting my niece at UConn. They also have a fairly big parking lot that is shared with other restaurants. The best calzone you can get for under $10. DP Dough is open later for all your late night needs. My go to is the chicken parm with jalapeño ranch to dip in. I had always heard about DP Dough being one of the best places on campus and decided to try it on a cold, rainy, stressful (bc of school) day. I ordered the Chicken ParmaZone (8.75) and Cheese Stix (7.25). The Chicken ParmaZone comes with chicken, mozzarella, parmesan, and marinara. It was so good and instantly made my day better ! One calzone is more than enough, it was very filling and delicious! I've also ordered the Cheese Stix which comes with mozzarella, parmesan, and Italian seasoning. This order was also super yummy and filling. I loved the marinara!! If I had to order one item, I would go with the calzone! I decided to order DP Dough for my daughter's 17th birthday party, with 12 of her friends in attendance. The party was on a Sunday night. To make sure I gave them enough notice, I ordered online 2 days prior, on Friday. I even followed up by phone after I placed the order to add a special request because I had people with certain dietary requirements in attendance. The person I spoke to said no problem to my request (indicating that she was aware of my order). Secondarily, I received an email confirmation of my order. Imagine my surprise, when the time for delivery came and went, with no food arriving. I called the store to ask about my order and was told they were not aware of my order. In their defense, they put things in motion and was able to deliver my food in about 35 minutes from my call, but at the end of the day, the food was an hour later than I had requested. The only compensation I received was the delivery person gave me back the tip I had originally put onto the order. I wrote a note to the corporate office, which oversees all of the stores right after this incident happened and to date, more than one month after the event, I have heard nothing. Wow. read more

For those who don't what a calzone is (I didn't until I came to UConn), it's a type of pizza that's folded into a bun-like shape. Instead of cheese being on top, they serve as fillings. Pro: Always timely delivery (~30 minutes - 45 minutes). The steak calzones (Oh-zone or School Zone) is usually my go to, but sometimes I like to make my own calzone (construction zone) to spice things up. It appears that some of the people who have reviewed this restaurant are a bit unrealistic. One person ordered over a dozen calzones, then shorted the driver on a tip because of an error that had absolutely nothing to do with the driver. Another person holds expectations of a fast-food restaurant that are equivalent to a nice, formal establishment. THIS IS FAST-FOOD, the prices are more or less equivalent to that of McDonalds or Burger King. You can get a meal here for five dollars. Granted, the food is not amazing, but it's tasty, and it makes for a good snack now and again. Plus, there's a big assortment of calzones, so they really do offer something for everybody. read more

Never heard of this place before driving by one time while in the area. I had no idea they were pretty close to being a national chain. I see why - I love the concept of this place...a lot (*googles franchise info*)! The description is kind of hard to explain but I can tell you that their location is most appropriate. This location is smack in the middle of UConn territory, but I guess that's how their business model works. The target college kids. And the food is a perfect match. This place is known for its calzones. They've got a boat load of choices. Things you wouldn't think of... There were at least 30 different combinations on their menu for calzone fillings and they custom make them in request too. I also saw dessert and other non-calzone items on the menu. Anyway, I got two "zonies" which are half-sized versions of their full calzones. One was called the Buffer Zone (hot sauce, chicken, mozzarella, and bleu cheese) and the other was the BBQ Steak Zone (steak, barbecue sauce, mozzarella and american cheese). Both held their own and were served hot. I saw them make them to-order which is always a good sign. The flavor was there and their portion size was respectable. I felt the BBQ steak one could've been a bit less dry if their was more sauce or something dropped in but they did serve both with a side of marinara. There is no place for dine-in eating inside of their section of the indoor plaza and I was freezing my butt off the whole time I was waiting because they left the back door open. But this is not a place you go to for the ambience and decor. This is where you go when you have the munchies or want something that tastes like pizza but is not pizza. They are "open crazy late" according to the signs in the building and that means 2am is the earliest they close during the week. So I've been waiting a hour and twenty minutes for food (still isn't here) called the restaurant to see what was going on and was greeted by the rudest manager I've ever talked to in my entire restaurant career who hung up mid conversation^^ the food just got here and wasn't even cooked all the way with completely solid cheese^^ Sorry 'hun' but you've officially lost my business. Eh. I went to D.P. Dough with some friends, so I got to taste multiple calzones in one trip. Each one was just ok, on the lower spectrum of the sense. I got a calzone with breaded eggplant and the breading was mushy. I will say that the marinara sauce was good. I probably won't go back since there are better places to eat in this area. read more
