Most of the reviews on Yelp are old so pay no attention to them. 1. Inside is immaculate and tastefully restored after the fire. Sound proofing on the ceiling, the bar is large and comfortable, the outside deck is going to be great this summer. 2. Owner is there and greated is coming in, came out to check on us at the bar and thanked us for coming whe when he left. 3. The pizza? The dough had to have been freshly made that day and it was a huge pizza and probably the best we have had in years. Seriously look at the reviews on google not Yelp. 4. Great draft beer selection. Can you try putting dogs and boats or two roads to ruin on draft? That said Captains daughter was great. Full pour! We are going back and it's likely to become a weekly visit. My only suggestion: light up those TVs with local sports, car racing, motor sports, etc. Good job folks the place is brilliant and the food was great. The new restaurant is beautiful. The outdoor seating is great, the bar area is beautiful ....... But they need more staff. We sat outside and the service was not timely. When we got service it was friendly but it took over 30 minutes to get drinks. Another 20 for our appetizers. And another 20 after that for our meal. Food was good!! Kids had the chicken tender and kids pasta & meatball Husband got a pizza and I got a turkey club. All of it came out hot and fresh and delicious. read more

After Midway Restaurant reopened this year we ordered several pizzas and they were great and the help was very pleasant when we picked them up. On 09/19/25 we ordered several pizzas from Midway restaurant again and prepaid for them. When my wife picked them up, the employee that brought the pizzas out just threw them on the counter and walked away. No thank you or anything. When we got them home all the pizzas were way over cooked and NOT worth the money. Can I just say this is the first time we ate at this restaurant as a takeout or even ate their food. My husband and I both got pizza and I will say it was the best pizza i've had.Around here! Was not skimpy with their toppings? Nice crust, cooked perfectly.I'm definitely going to be eating hair more often for our Pizza. The Kids portion of Fish with Onion Rings was sooo delicious! More than enough food for any kid or Senior!

First visit after the reopening. Very nice clean and fresh atmosphere. Large bar area and large section of booths. Plenty of parking. No dress code. I noticed two waitstaff, two managers and a bartender. Some room for improvement would be in the area that follows. One manager was very confused with juggling between running staff, answering the phone, taking to go orders and filling to go orders. You can tell this is their first restaurant. Hire someone to strictly work the register. Orders that are to go and pick-up need to be treated differently then dine in. Sit down customers are already there and willing to wait. Walk in will not come back in they wait to long. 15 minutes for a to go cold grinder might not seem long for some but it is. Manager should worry about smooth operation not working registers. Hide the confusion. All the food coming from the back looked delicious. Just lack of order in the place. Spend money up front to keep it coming in. Fix this and five stars could be in reach. We will see if the second visit brings the score up or down. read more

We recently vacationed on Ashford Lake, and there are not a lot of places to eat anywhere near where we stayed so we ended up ordering from here a few times. If we had only ordered pizza I would be rating it 5 stars. The pizza was REALLY good. The large was HUGE and reasonably priced. The were very generous with the toppings and it was delicious. In fact it was so good we decided to order from there again a few nights later. Unfortunately their other items are not as good as the pizza was. My husband ordered a cheeseburger sub with bacon. There was no bacon on it and the burger was very dry. I had the chicken tenders, and since this is a "restaurant" I was expecting actual chicken but instead it was that chopped formed processed stuff that looks and tastes like thin slices of crispy breaded deep fried kitchen sponge, complete with air holes in it. You can get better chicken tenders out of the grocery store freezer. read more

This place has changed hands since I used to live here, so I can only rate the white pizza I tried. It was the Chicken Breast Pizza listed in the Gormet Pizzas section of the menu. I liked it very much. It came with lots of fresh garlic on it and I added broccoli, which was also fresh. Also the manager (owner?) was nice. They're open for lunch and from 5-9pm for dinner and they have a generator (power outages are frequent in this area). read more

We recently went to Midway with a small group. While I have had several satisfying experiences with the takeout- eating in was a disappointment. The waitress did not even acknowledge us for 20 minutes. When she finally did there was no apology or explanation. Two other "manager types" walked by 3 or 4 times and did not notice we had no drinks or food. They never acknowledged us at all. It only got worse. We did order. Food took forever to come and we were there for just over 2 hours. I understand that it is difficult to get people to work- but just say hey- sorry- we will be right there. That would go a long way. The other day my boyfriend brought home a calzone from Midway and asked me if I wanted to share it with him. One whiff of it and the first thing it reminded me of was the horrible food from Basil's in Stafford Springs. I can't quite put my finger on it but perhaps many of the local restaurants buy their oil from the same vendor. If that is it, they all need to change brands because the odor is anything but appetizing. In all fairness to the owner, when my boyfriend brought it back to get a refund (never a bite was eaten), he was refunded in full. However, that being said, it is very doubtful that we will ever be ordering anything from them in the future. Note: chicken fingers ordered previously were nothing to brag about either. read more

Just awful. The food taste was horrible. The meatballs definitely weren't homemade and bland. I ended up throwing half away. We ordered a Caesar salad with crispy chicken (instead of grilled) and no cucumbers and no carrots. Instead got the take out back home and there were onions and carrots in the Caesar salad?! Parmesan cheese was missing. Upon arriving the waitress mixed up our order and put grilled chicken on it so we had to wait for it to be remade. Sadly this is not the same Midway I gave four stars to in 2013. I suspect Peter and George have just grown tired of running the place. It has been for sale for some time. If you order pizza or a grinder the food is OK, but not exceptional. However, the "meals" are overpriced and of poor quality. The sign out front advertises $9.95 dinner specials, but the "specials" start at $13.95 and go up to $19.95!!! I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki. It was undercooked and the fries were cold. I sent it back and the same chicken came back blackened and the fries were still cold! My friend ordered a hamburger cooked medium with fries. It came out burnt and again with cold fries. One last note the drink prices for mixed drinks have not changed, BUT the size of the glass has shrunk. It is the only place left in Ashford with a bar, so I guess they feel their customers have no other choice. Unfortunately they are mistaken. read more

I chose Chicken Breast with Fettuccine and asked for Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo if possible in the "notes" section. It came out perfect. Chicken was cut up like the general way restaurants serve it. Our group occasionally orders takeout and we are usually happy with the food; however, yesterday when we ordered, it was another story. Our order came with no utensils or napkins and the wraps that were ordered had been heated. My turkey wrap was stuffed with turkey, a good thing, but the lettuce had been heated with the filling. Gross. They will do the same thing with the grinders unless you tell them that you want it cold. read more

I love this place. The pizzas are delicious and have a wonderful crust. There is a very nice lounge and bar. The prices are very low for this quality of simple comfort food.The service is friendly and efficient. The portions are huge for many entree items. The Midway has gone downhill in the last 12 months. Having been a regular there for 15 years, tonight was the last straw. After waiting for an hour for a single cheeseburger and a small salad, I ended up walking out. At no point in time did the manager or owner seem to care one bit that we had been sitting there with empty beverage glasses and no food. I've been in Ashford for 15 years and though I've never been pleased at the Midway - it's practically the only place in our little town to grab a quick take out. Tonight was yet another disappointment : I called and ordered a meatball sub with American cheese to go- and please add a side of fries ? My partner gets home , starts to open his sub , and is disappointed that's it's covered in toppings (lettuce, tomatoes etc) - but he's home and not one to complain . Then after trying to eat it- he realizes it's not a meatball sub but a hamburger sub covered in the aforementioned toppings - and the fries are cold and fairly tasteless . (Sigh.) My brother and I came here for an early lunch and we had the place to ourselves. Crystal was super friendly and we shared quite a few laughs and traded stories during our lunch experience. We started with an order of buffalo wings, which are offered in regular or hot. I opted for regular since I wanted to taste the rest of my meal. They were battered and delicious. My brother ordered the Paul Newman Midway Special - a hearty Greek salad and a small pizza that was topped with onions, peppers, tomato, sausage, ground beef, and pepperoni (which is a ridiculous amount of food for one person to eat) and I ordered the gyro deluxe (which just means the flatbread sandwich comes with their hand-cut fries). The gyro alone was tasty and plentiful, we really didn't need the fries, but they were delicious. Such a treat to find a diner that hits the spot! Midway has a lot of potential with a high visibility location on Rte 44. But they need to pay attention to the details better. Our waitress was nice but totally mishandled our order so that we ended up waiting over an hour for our lunch to arrive. Once it showed up, it was mostly tasty. The four of us ordered 2 pizzas, chicken souvlaki & patty melt. The pizzas have a thicker crust than I like, but the 2 people who ordered them seemed to like it just fine. Chicken soulaki was ok, but I adore tzatiki sauce and the sludge they served just wasn't close. The patty melt was standard stuff. The true downer was the service. She was apologetic, but it was just far too long and the place was not at all busy. She should have caught her mistake much sooner and offered us more than just a salty cup of soup as an apology. Plus she kept laughing and going on about how she had to work a double (I don't care) and how she wished she could be outside in the nice weather (how about you do your job and serve my food in a reasonable time???). Midway is a staple of Ashford and as the only pizza place in town it definitely comes in handy when you're stuck in the woods with no food in sight. The atmosphere is very local and with that you either know everyone or are camped or alone depending on if you're from the area. The bartenders are very friendly as are the rest of the staff. I typically get their meatball grinders, they're always consistently good and filling. Worth a try when in Ashford! read more

Went in with a friend and we both ordered Burgers cook medium. We both got ours well done and both noticed the taste and smell was off on them- the meat was bad! Brought it up to the waitress so she went to check- came back saying they just got it in yesterday and that was it- no offer to replace them and charged us full price although they were hardly touched. George and Pete run the kind of family restaurant you find up in Maine, tucked in the middle of nowhere, like Shangri-La. It looks like a big log cabin and has tons of space inside, with a huge bar room, a huge eating area with laminated wood tables, and a large private room. The Greek style pizza is excellant and consistent, with cooks that will probably retire there, and the cheese is to die for. They're very generous with toppings, and service is absolutely top shelf. The salads glow bright green they're so fresh, and the waitstaff always treats you right. The assorted menu has almost everything you'd expect, with clams when they're in season. The lasagna has that killer cheese, and it melts in your mouth like somethiing from Cheese Heaven. Revel in it; be the big cheese. Fun for the whole family, and the owners do a lot for the community. It was a favorite of Paul Newman's, and every year huge celebrities come by to raise money for his Hole in the Wall Camp. A truly great place. read more

Pizzas are OK..but not great. Grinders are much better. If you sit in their menu pastas are a good choice...get the Greek salad. I've lived in town for 30+ years and have gone there many, many times. Calamari. Awesome, crispy n light. Fetuccini Alfredo. Run of the mill. Ravioli. Seems to have been made out of mystery Meat. Peanut butter pie was good. Cheesecake type texture. French silk was good. Mousse was run of the mill. Wait staff, we had Tracy. She was fast, witty and funny. This place has good lighting. It isn't too bright, but you can see everything. Clean atmosphere. I wanted to post another review of midway. Only because of the negative reviews I've been reading. I've read reviews theres been a change in management etc. if so I would not have known it. Ordered pizza, wings and a salad. All delicious. This isn't a fine dining establishment, it's a pizza joint. Pizza is delicious. Salad could have had a few more vegetables but all in all the food was really delicious. It was take out because of the corona virus. Everything was packed well. And food was yummy. We have a summer house nearby and come almost every other weekend for the past 10 years. I recommend. read more
