I decided to hit this joint after a long day of studying and it was near me. The building and interior spoke old fashioned, and it was rather comforting there. I ordered a small cheese pizza and decided to dine in (major plus that this restaurant decided to have dine ins) since the pizza would've gotten cold once I had got home. The pizza was quite nice. The cheese was rich and unique. The sauce also had a good tang to it.The bread was a bit soft for my liking (I like my new haven pizza) but the cheese really made up for it. So overall I would rate the pizza 6.7/10 The lady was really nice and it was a comforting atmosphere and I really appreciated how there was dine in during the pandemic. Whenever we head to Willi around lunchtime, we try to grab lunch here... Still the best grinders with the perfect bread. Love their fillings, from the meats to the fresh red tomato.. I've never been disappointed by white mealy tomato slices here. The Genoa in my grinder is always good quality, and my husband often opts for the very satisfying cheeseburger grinder. Can't go wrong with the pastrami either. Clearly, Mama cares about the quality of her meats. I haven't had pizza recently, but it's got the right amount of toppings and the good pizza mozzarella. Maybe next trip I will remind my taste buds why I always stop at Mamas. The decor is old school pizza place but the fact that it isn't modern is part of the charm for me. The bathroom is small but clean and that's all I ask! Lots of pics of the old UCONN basketball players, men's and women's teams. Too bad more UCONN folk don't patronize this hometown fave. On way to return our winter empties to Hosmer Mountain Soda with three hungry cherubs when I found Mama's Pizza. Old school...with food to match. The best grinders on "woven wood" plates, toasted perfectly. A small was more than enough. Calzones are bursting with cheese and fillings and the homemade sauce....the stuff of dreams. This is not a trendy hot spot but a long time neighborhood presence. Our resident foodie inhaled the calzone and would have gone for a second one. We will be back to work through more of the menu...lasagna next time. read more

Definitely a rich-tasting pizza. Medium crust (thicker than New Haven style, thinner than deep dish). Lots and lots of cheese -- a mixture of mozzarella & cheddar. Lighter on the sauce, and tasty toppings, especially the mushrooms. Crust is thick, crispy and buttery. Atmosphere is straight out of the 1950's with red vinyl booths and wood paneled walls. We drove up to Storr's late to spend the night before orientation and Mama's was open! They made THE BEST BLT grinder I've ever had!! Small-town pizza joint that also serves spaghetti, sandwiches, and calzone. We split a small 9$ "Special" pizza. It arrived fairly quickly, and was just the right size for two people - eight tiny slices, maybe 10-12 inches diameter. It was good pizza with a crispy crust... but it turns out the pizza doesn't keep well as leftovers. Two hours later and it was unfortunately very soggy... Just happened to be driving by on a trip from CT to MA and saw the attractive neon from the highway. In a hurry so they recommended a meatball grinder. Awesome choice. Mmmm..Just perfect, and how the meatball was sliced! Delicious chicken noodle soup too. I can't wait to pass through again so I can try more from the menu. read more

Everything's fine until you try to buy sauce! Honestly, it's one of the more edible pizzas in Willi (though very doughy, no adventuresome toppings, and be prepared to sop up the grease if you get cheese). But I tried to buy some sauce from them (it's decent and we needed a little extra for a lasagna) and the old lady that runs the place FLEW OFF THE HOOK. You'd think I threw a hot meatball grinder in her face (which, by the way, were not as good as I had hoped)! This is how our interaction went: me: I'd like to buy a couple of cups of sauce, please. Mean Pizza Lady: No. me: Oh. You don't have sauce? MPL: We have sauce. me: [puzzled] I'm willing to give you money for it. I just need a little. MPL: [super hateful] I'm not selling YOU sauce. Now get out! What did I ever do to mean, old pizza lady? They should make an addendum to their slogan "Mama's Pizza: Serving The Community For Over 30 Years... Just Not Sauce, Only Hate." read more

My boyfriend and I are staying in the area for awhile and decided to try Mama's pizza which is right down the road. The pizza was really good for the kind of small restaurant and location it's I , and for the price as well. The crust is a little thicker than a nice thin crust but has good flavor and the sauce isn't bland as well. read more

I can never understand why this place is always empty when I'm in town. Mamas is your typical small pizza place. Pizza is decent as are the prices. About $16 for a large two topping. Customer service is always great and they will make anything for you even if it's not on the menu. Parking is limited and the building is not handicapped accessible. read more

My favorite Greek pizza joint in town. Fair prices, always quick & friendly. Nothing fancy about this place, and takeout is probably a better bet than dining in, but unlike other Greek pizza places in town they manage to produce a pie without soggy crust. I have lived next door to mama's for years and everything is great about this place. The pizza is to die for! Staff has always been friendly, especially when we would bring crowds of people over from a show that night. we have been going to Mama's for at least 20 years. We go there more often than we go to any other restaurant. It is our always pleasant, always excellent, always relaxing lunch or dinner out. We always order one of 2 pizzas... either sausage and green peppers or bacon and mushroom. It's hard to beat perfection. We always order the small size looking for a nice crisp crust. In 20 years they served us ONE not so good (undercooked) pizza. Service has always been better than pleasant and on point. We love the place! read more
