    Jerk chicken

Disrespectful. Stale "jerk" chicken. Was going to give it to my bully but I love my dog too much. Straight into the garbage. This ain't right. As a business owner/food service worker...JAMAICAN...yall simply can't serve people this. I'll take the loss tho. Definitely ain't going back.

Called to place an order to pick up, and it went well! ETA was 5 mins, and I got exactly in 5! My order was mac n cheese with jerk chicken and oxtail gravy with plantains. They gave me a lot of mac n cheese, and it was so creamy and delicious. So soft and savory. Jerk chicken was so tender and the bones were literally crumbling. I feel like I didn't get enough jerk chicken and it was just mostly bones, but I still loved it. Next time I would like to try empanadas, chicken pasta, wings, and salmon!

Uber Eats! Placed an order via Uber Eats on a Friday evening. Within 25mins of placing my order it was cancelled with no explanation. Tried calling the establishment but didn't get an answer. Total waste of time.

D'Melting Pot offers a unique latin flair on classic Jamaican Caribbean eats. I've never seen ackee & saltfish, callaloo & saltfish or oxtail empanadas!! This place has it all! The ackee & saltfish and callaloo empanadas are top tier!! They are bursting with flavor and you will not want to put them down. Who knew these could be so good in an empanada? I've had the whitening combo with fried dumpling and it was okay. I thought this entree could use more flavor. They have a diversified menu including sweet treats like waffles, salads, smoothies and desserts. There's still so much that I haven't yet tried. I can say that the empanadas are totally bomb though so if you try anything be sure to try those!

Best Jamaican food I've ever had. Restaurant is always nice and clean environment. You always see really busy people mamake time to go get lunch there. Great service it seems they cook everything from scratch in separate batches for each customer.

Owner was super cool really nice guy. Came through to try the oxtail empanada since a friend recommended. I wanted to love this place but the oxtail empanada was piping hot in the corners and still cold in the center. The dipping sauce that came with it was really good. I'll try and give this place another chance when I can

I go all out when I come here becuase it's fast seafood at it's best, steamed, raw or fried. You order at the counter for things you want, so plan your order with friends so you can get what you want all at once. Send one to get the fried's, one to get the steamed, raw, etc. It looks like any seasonal shack on the eastern seaboard, but just a tad busier and a tad nicer. Service is good becuase it's far enough away from the NYC grind that people aint tryna bring that vibe. They're trying to have a different experience. It's got great views. Cash only of course. Seating is cafeteria style. I usually have to go for a walk afterwards to help digest everything. Prices are high if you indulge or come with your whole family, but it's kinda in line if your tryna splurge and go big. My usual order is steamed snow crab legs, fried calamari, fried clam strips, steamed cherry's and little necks (or raw if it's daytime or late summer) and a steamed whole snapper if I'm with more than 1 person. It's a feast, but worth a gout attack. It's fresh seafood that's well prepared and simple. You can't go wrong on the cocktail sauces, butter, lemon on most items.

Friends took me here for my birthday and we had reservations at another place, but they "lost" them? All of us have been here before so we decided why not, and see what happens. The place was incredibly busy, we had about a 20 minute wait but it was worth it! Our server Robert was top notch. Professional and cordial. He Immediately came over with glasses of water, garlic bread, cheese and olive tapas, a house salad, and napkins. Tried the broiled fisherman's combo: shrimp, scallops, fish fillet, mussels, stuffed clams, lobster tail, and a side, I opted for linguini with garlic aioli. Everything was cooked very well and the presentation amazing and beautiful. Now here's something you don't see every day; an actual stuffed clam where the clam is still partially attached to the shell! None of that surimi crap! Finished the meal with a double espresso, shared a tartufo and cheese cake. I don't know if the digestif was complementary, but it was a nice touch. I don't know how the kitchen keeps up with the orders. The waitstaff must put a few miles on their feet a day and a cardio workout carrying the trays overflowing with food. Amazing! Everything in the restaurant is kept neat, clean, and organized. The music is not overwhelming. You can hear each other at the table. When the weather is a little nicer, they have beautiful outdoor seating with views of Long Island sound. It is very romantic, when the sun is setting, you can imagine yourself being somewhere exotic and far away. As the song goes; "Sometimes you don't know what you got till it's gone."

At 6:30, it wasn't busy, probably because there was a snowstorm the night before? We'd ordered The Seafood broil and a side of New England Clam Chowder. Yes, they brought out a (very generic) salad for the table, garlic bread (good - best part of what was served, honestly), and a (mediocre) 'antipasto'. The Clam Chowder comes, its tepid and so thick that the spoon is standing up in the bowl. Tasted it ("Has this been sitting since yesterday?"), and hard pass. Sent it back. They apologized, came back in 7 minutes with replacement bowls "we made it fresh". In seven minutes? It was warmer and thinner, but the damage was already done to my palate and phyche. "No thank you" *not even for free Of course, the plates come as that soup arrives - there's no room on the table, anyway. The main course was as disappointing as everything else: If you like alot of seasoning, a ton of breadcrumbs and grease - by all means, order that seafood broil! The two and a half inch lobster tail was the highlight, the shrimp wasn't bad - but the scallops, clams and all the rest were absolutely smothered in breadcrumbs, old bay and grease. We were looking for a replacement for (the now closed) Artie's. This ain't it. I'll spend the time and money to drive to Jordan's Lobster Farm in Island Park when I want quality seafood, I guess. I wish I'd taken photos to accompany this review, but I kept trying to salvage the evening and enjoy the company of friends I hadn't seen in awhile. Overrated diner with valet parking. Do better.

For those who live in Co-op City and the immediate vicinity, this is place I would keep steadily on repeat. Part of my experience was navigating the MTA subway, specifically the 2 and 5 trains, thinking Baychester Ave on the 5 was the best stop, but the end of the line at Eastchester-Dyre Avenue may be better. Walking Tillotson Ave from Baychester, you have to know how to take Tillotson to its apparent end along the New England Thruway and where to cross a pedestrian walkway that passes over I-95 to access the continuation of Tillotson on the Co-op City side of I-95. Access to Kaijin can be a factor in your experience, but the experience adds to my knowledge of NYC and how to do it again, because Kaijin is worthwhile to experience again. I arrived around 4:30 on a Saturday. This was a mistake. I would arrive when the restaurant opens or when the dinner rush calms down after seven. As a single person, they will lower your priority on the wait-list. I checked a few times as my number 16 was passed over until I insisted when number 32 was called. They could improve the management of the wait-list. They are trying to seat as many people as possible and many come as large parties for birthdays and from Connecticut and Virginia I overheard. Right off I-95, Kaijin has become a destination, so you are better to visit on a weekday and avoid the weekends if possible. Getting right to the point, the steamed lobster tails come out hot, buttered and well seasoned. On a crowded Saturday, a few people are very aggressive with one woman being offensive. I didn't escalate, but I can see this becoming a hostile scene. They bring out the lobster tails and ring a bell to let everyone know. Waiting for my second lobster tail around the 70 minute mark, I had my plate ready. On a busy weekend afternoon or evening, you will be lucky to have three lobster tails. I did not take any pictures after a lengthy trip to the restaurant and about an hour wait. There is something for everyone and it's not all seafood. The fried chicken looked great. I never got over to the sushi or salad and cold items buffet . The steak and beef short ribs cut the Asian style were not as tender and tasty as I had hoped. The baked salmon was good. The steamed deveined shrimp were better, along with the mussels, both very fresh and well seasoned; though, the shrimp can become overcooked if sitting out too long. The buttery seafood shells, crispy calamari and fried fish were excellent and I ate plenty. That fried fish was crispy on the outside with seasoned batter and flaky inside, almost like cod! I was not in the mood to eat the always plentiful crab legs after my efforts this Saturday. The lobster was superb, but I only managed two. I did not get to the ice cream and desserts. I can understand there is plenty of room for a more glowing review if you are able to access Kaijin at a better day and time, but my reviews are based on facts and real time experience. One could come for the $24 weekday lunch buffet, minus the lobster, or come for the $39 dinner buffet with the lobster on a weekday evening. Given the dinner buffet is open all weekend, I imagine you are better arriving very early or perhaps come after seven on a weekend. Almost everyone behaved well under the circumstances. When I was finally seated, the server quickly took my drink order, lemon iced tea, and never let my glass go empty. My plates and napkins were cleared regularly and efficiently. They did not rush you with the bill at the ninety minute mark and my table was made ready for the next guests by the time I put on my hat and backpack. The bathroom in the back right corner was clean on the way out. 3.7 stars, but could be better on a weekday.

I'm also happy to report that their happy hour, though still in its early stages, is shaping up to be a solid way to give them a try. We ordered the mussels frites, fish sliders, crab bites, Brussels sprouts, and the pretzel with cheese. The absolute standouts were the fish sliders and the mussels in wine sauce. We usually get the fish and chips and mussels from the regular menu, so we had a feeling these would be the winners and they were. I'd 100% recommend both plates. We ended up ordering two rounds of fish sliders so that should say it all! :) The Brussels sprouts were roasted and simply prepared, which I really appreciated. I'm honestly over seeing fried Brussels on every menu, they're rarely that good and oily. If I could tweak anything, I'd add a sauce or drizzle for a little extra dimension, maybe balsamic or a sweet chili dip. Still, I'd absolutely order them again; they make for a great, lighter snack or side. The pretzel was pretty standard, but I liked that it didn't come salted since the cheese sauce has plenty of seasoning. It came out piping hot and stayed that way until the very last bite.  The crab bites were just okay for me. The sauce they come with is tasty, but I wish there was a little more flavor mixed into the crab itself, maybe some onions, peppers or herbs. However, they're not bad at all; they're full of crab meat and overall really solid. If you prefer a simpler flavor profile, you'll probably love them, especially with a squeeze of fresh lemon. We genuinely love Dakota's, and we'll keep coming back to enjoy the views and the great service. It's been nice seeing them evolve into a true neighborhood staple with all the events they've been hosting. Right now they're even running a toy drive, and they have toys available on site that you can purchase and drop directly into the donation box. Such a clever and thoughtful touch.  It's also worth mentioning that they're in full holiday mode right now, with decorations throughout the space. Whether you just want to soak up the festive atmosphere or snap a cute picture by the tree, they've got you covered.

Upon arrival the only available table for a party of 2 was directly in front of the DJ speakers so we sat at the bar. The bartender comes over and I tell her we're here for their Tuesday Happy Hour specials. As per their IG post tacos (ALL) are $2. So we ordered chicken, shrimp & steak. The bartender tells me the steak isn't included and is an additional charge. So I pull up the IG post which states differently. She's unaware of the post or special and has to run it by a manager. We ordered 6 tacos but 7 came out. I pointed out the extra taco she apologized and said we wouldn't be charged for it. Next I order the froze. The froze and the margarita were both juice like. Entirely too sweet for the froze and too much sour mix on the margarita. The tacos were mid, steak was tough & chicken wasn't seasoned. The check comes and we were charged the $2 for the steak taco, the 7th taco that I didn't order (the bartender was suppose to comp) was on the bill and froze that was suppose to be $2 as per the IG post was $13. I bring the price difference of the Froze to the bartenders attention and she states that the $2 froze is in a smaller cup than what she gave me. How would I know that? I showed her the IG post with specials upon placing my first order. Clearly if it's a Tuesday special and I'm ordering on a Tuesday that's why I'm ordering it. She said she would have to speak to a manager came back and said the manager wouldn't honor the $2 advertised price. I paid my bill and left. To make a social media post to gain patrons.... In addition the crab legs in the special are smaller than the crab legs from a normal crab leg order. This time around the side that takes the award was hands down the fried rice. I would go back just to order this. The waitstaff is hit and miss.
