Lamb with Scallions (includes onions though not in the name)
    Joanne Z.

Mary had a little lamb...with scallions and onions. It was the best Asian lamb dish she'd ever had. The veggies were perfectly cooked Al dente and the dish was not drowning or swimming in sauce, letting the delicious flavor shine. The new chef at this popular Riverdale establishment under new management knows what he's doing! And the staff are all very welcoming and accommodating. My friend loved her Spring rolls, steamed chicken dumplings and edamame. I just saw some earlier negative reviews that probably predated the overhauling of this eatery. I avoided Anise for awhile but since they changed management and chef, I have not been disappointed. And I'm very particular!

    Metal in my food
    Simone S.

There was so much wrong with my order here and I can say I will not be returning. And that says a lot as I rarely write places off without giving them at least two tries. The service. The woman who took my order seemed as though I was bothering her. Very unfriendly. But also, I've noticed this must be cultural because I have never gotten happy and pleasant ordering from any Chinese/Asian inspired places. So I let that roll off. The food. First off it was expensive. $70 for 2 orders of shrimp in garlic sauce, boneless spare ribs, and dumplings. I asked for extra bbq sauce on the ribs. If what I got was extra, the normal must be literally a drop. The white rice was hard. The shrimp in garlic sauce was bland and there were so many random vegetables in this dish I don't even know what some where. Ie this green stuff (looked like cooked seaweed or purple cabbage) and these white items (not water chestnuts or bamboo shoots) in the pictures. It was random. Then to top it off, THERE WAS A PIECE OF SHAVED METAL IN MY FOOD. What if I had swallowed that or chewed it. That I can't just shrug off.

I had been craving chicken & broccoli one night & the Chinese restaurant that I usually order from has subpar chicken & broccoli. So I decided to order from Anise for the first time & boy was I not disappointed! Their chicken & broccoli is perfectly seasoned & the crab Rangoon is great too! This is now my go to Chinese food spot!

I am very picky when it comes to Chinese food but this place checked off all the boxes. I ordered during lunch time and I couldn't believe the amount of food and options I received for the price. With my lunch special order I received a decent 5-6" plate of shrimp and broccoli, 16oz wonton soup with wonton strips, 8oz container of white rice and a mini egg roll. All for $11.00

This is the most disgusting Chinese restaurant in Riverdale. The foods are not fresh and it took more than half hour of wait time to serve lunch specials. Their wonton soup smells sticky and the fillet fish is definitely not fresh

I wish there were more locations of this in Manhattan. We made an order at the desk before we seated ourselves and for a Saturday evening, there was quite a bit of open tables which was great. I ordered the Szechuan Braised Beef Noodles and they were absolutely delicious. The noodles tasted a bit like ramen noodles but they were able to grab all the delicious and garlic flavored soup. I really appreciated the soft-boiled egg with its marinated egg whites. I also loved the big tender beef chunks as well. Overall, I really cannot wait to go back to Zhongzhong noodles and I hope that they open up more locations. I will say though that since I last went to the Roosevelt Island location, they have raised their prices quite a bit - maybe $2 or $3 per dish.

We have a staple restaurant from which we always order but one of this place's dishes stuck out to me and had great reviews so that was what made me take a chance with them. I saw this picture of their Shrimp Chow Mei Fun everywhere and the shrimp were huge. People said it was a really good dish so I had to try it. I will say that it tastes really good but this recession has definitely affected the shrimp size. They serve medium-sized shrimp in this dish and the pictures where saw extra large shrimp, are likely no more. The flavor was still really good and I suggest asking for some chili oil as well, if you don't have any at home. That's a game-changer. We had their sesame chicken, shrimp dumplings, sautéed broccoli and wonton soup, which were all very good. They even pan fried the dumplings as requested. Their shrimp and egg rolls were fried very hard which I don't like. It's a little difficult for my daughter to eat the hard exterior as well. The fantail shrimp were very sad. I'm used to them being mostly breading but these are ridiculous. The shrimp size is a fourth of the overall breading. If it's getting too expensive to serve them, they may want to take them off the menu entirely and just serve fried shrimp or popcorn shrimp. They were literally that size. The house fried rice was also not a favorite. I'm not into super dark fried rice and it just seemed really hard. This is your run-of-the-mill neighborhood Chinese takeout spots I wasn't expecting gold standards but now I know how to order from them in the future if I ever have another craving for their Chow Mei Fun.
