One of the best home maintenance/service experiences I've ever had. Tyler came to our house to clean our dryer vent. He was early but called in advance to make sure that was ok, very knowledgeable and thorough as he did the job. We even had an issue with our dryer that he helped diagnose after cleaning our vent. I wish there were the option to give zero stars because that is what I would have done. These people are crooks. There is no other way to put it and here is my story: I contracted this provider to do a perfunctory chimney sweep/cleaning as we were about to put our home on the market. I asked for a quote on this cleaning and they said $189. I booked the appointment. On the day of the service, I was unable to be there but my husband was. I got a bill within a week for something in the neighborhood of $500 and asked my husband if he knew anything about it. He did not. I called them and asked what the extra $300+ was for and they responded that it was for the chimney scan. I obviously replied that we did not order this service and an argument ensued. I had pretty much decided not to pay it and we proceeded to put our house on the market. They continued to call, mail and email me demanding payment, and I continued to argue with them. By March we were seeing interest in the house and after discussing things with our realtor decided that maybe knowledge was a good thing so there would be no surprises if and when our house went under contract. So I paid the bill. A few weeks after I paid the bill we got an offer on our house. I then realized that we never got the report and so I had nothing about the chimney on my sellers disclosure. I contacted Dj Cross and asked about the report and they said they would get it to me by the end of the day or the next day. Did not receive anything. i called back 3 days letter, they said it was coming, it did not. This went on for a couple of weeks and I was calling them every day. Finally I got a report (after our house went under contract and after the inspection which revealed some very minor chimney problems). Their report said, basically, that we would need to completely reconstruct our chimney and it would cost approx. $14K. I immediately asked for 2 other opinions on their report (it came with photos from the scan) and everyone said that these guys were crooks. Either one of these other companies could have corroborated their story and probably gotten the business (no way was I giving it to DJ Cross) but they didn't. Do yourselves a favor and stay away from this company. read more

Scheduled a maintenance visit for Dec 2nd between the hours of 2 & 4 pm. The purpose of the visit was to check my gas burning stove located in my rec room in the basement. The technicians (Rich & Mike) arrived at 2:00 pm. They placed a large floor mat at my back door as it was raining at that time. They proceeded to check my stove & the surrounding area. They both offered suggestions on the proper care of the store. Everything checked out according to specs. Both employees were extremely knowledgeable & very polite. I won't let this organization back in my house - they are not on the up and up! I called for a chimney sweep for my woodburning fireplace which they quoted for $187. At the end of the call the person on the phone reminded me that I had two chimney's cleaned the last time and asked if i wanted them both done. I said I wasn't sure on the 2nd and she said they would take a look when they got here and let me know if it was needed. She said there would be a savings on the 2nd chimney since they would already be there. Within 10 minutes after arriving the technician told my wife that both chimneys would need to be cleaned and they recommended cleaning our dryer vent - all at $187 a piece for a total of $560. My wife called me, I came home and relayed what their receptionist had told me about a discount on the 2nd chimney. He accused me of lying - saying she wouldn't / shouldn't have told me that. Then I looked at the dryer vent that he inspected without a request or, permission, noting that it is about 18" long - I reached in with my hand and pulled out some lint - walah! It's clean! They are all about upselling things that I didn't need and with no consideration to providing value. read more

This could have been a really good review but I was surprised with a bill for $100 the week after having servicemen out to the house. I called Dan to schedule a cleaning for a house I had just purchased. I wanted to make sure the chimney was clean before we used it. We set up a time for a cleaning, the men were very nice, came on time, looked at the chimney and were honest about me not needing one. They told me I didn't have a cap and if I was interested in receiving a quote to put one on, they would call. Great! Fantastic, I awaited the call thinking this was a reputable business and would consider the cap and using them to install it. At no time, during the initial call or when they visited the house was any fee for an inspection discussed. A week later I got a bill for $100. I was told the cleaning would cost $187. So now I get a surprise bill that was not anticipated for over half of what it would cost me to get actual work done. It seemed to me like Dan didn't want to miss out on making money so he sent an invoice to account for his men's time. But of course if I got the cap, he could make that "inspection fee" go away. I offered to pay a reasonable amount for his men coming out to look up my chimney with a flashlight but he didn't want to hear it. Find another sweep if you ask me or you'll get burned! read more

Professional service people, show up when scheduled, fair pricing. Have gotten several yearly cleanings from them and they replaced a grate over the top of our chimney to keep the owls out. Best chimney sweep service we have used after sampling two or three others. read more

I called and described my problem and they scheduled an appointment right away. I rescheduling my work so I could be there in the middle of the day for the appointment, but when the time came I received a call that they had just driven by and refused to even come up to see the unit because of the parking situation. I explained that my building has parking directly in front of it and a freight elevator, but they just insisted that they did not want to do it. If they did not want to work in Philadelphia they should have said that from the start so I did not waste my day. read more
