People actually like this place? Tried it once a couple years ago and wasn't impressed. Decided to give it another shot just cause I was in the area and maybe I'd try something different. But nope. D'Elia's Grinders is a Riverside staple for a reason, they're delicious! We stopped in on a Saturday as a recommendation from our neighbor. We've lived here for 7 years now and our visit has been long overdue. We walked right up to the corner and ordered. I will have to say the one con was the service. The guy who helped us seemed annoyed we didn't have our order prepared and was not about to help in any way shape or form. We ordered a large turkey, side of fries, yellow peppers, and fountain drinks. We found a seat outside and it was a perfect sunny day to sit on the patio. The area was clean and there was plenty of tables. Our order was ready in about 10 minutes or so. We split the sandwich and fries which was more than enough. The bread is the star. It is flakey, crunchy, and soft all at the same time. They put just the right amount of everything. It's just right. The fries our nice and golden. Perfect combo, fries and a sandwich! Well, since you asked to get feedback on our experience at the Van Buren location, get ready. On this occasion we got whole Capocollo, Hot Turkey Pastrami and Hot Roast Beef Grinders. Your employees are always young people (often training) very cordial and helpful. My disappointment this time was with the quality/quantity of lunch meats in the products we ordered. I can qualify this because about a month later we ordered much the same items minus the Capocollo at the University location. At University we had plenty of cheese and lunch meat in our grinders! It was the difference between night and day. In fact I felt slighted that our grinders at the Van Buren shop were sub par. The University shop is sooooo much better! It's worth our drive from Corona to go there! So there you have it. EVERYONE if you want (what I think) is your money'$ worth in a great product then go to the original location. Remember, we work for our money and deserve to get quality food for our buck$, right? I use the Van Buren location when I visit my brother Andrew's gravesite at the National Cemetery. I've said it before and here I am saying it again...Best grinders ever!! I stopped by on my way home from hiking Mt Rubidoux. You should try that too. I got the Loaded Vegetarian once again and it was marvelous!! Lots of shredded lettuce, olives, sprouts, avocado (ok-not a LOT of avocado but they're expensive), tomatoes, red onion and I asked to sub pepper jack cheese. And don't forget about the oil - I asked for extra. Just wow! My goal is to get a grinder from here every time I make it to Riverside. Goodness gracious these grinders are so amazing. Wife and I ordered 2 full sandwiches to go: turkey and salami and an all American club. We also ordered side of pickles and peppers. Took about 25 minutes for our order. When we get home they forgot to include the peppers and pickles they charged us for. Should have checked. Even worse though the turkey and salami had only 1 thin slice of turkey and 4 thin slices of salami. The all American had 1 thin slice of ham 1 slice of ham and 1 strip of bacon. The all American is 18+ and only has 2 slices of meat and 1 strip of bacon. Total ripoff. The Turkey and Salami was about 15. Been coming to this place for more than 3 decades since I work off Lime/University. It was always a crazy time come "lunch time" in my office specially when they hear me say ... it's Delia's lunch today and they will either join me or ask me to buy some for the office. The original owners, John & Glady's were always greeting customers in the morning, even wiping tables and taking tray's but best of all, they wear their respective "smiles" as they see me and my wife, just enjoying their hoagies. There is NO secret .... its the bread and I would not deny it coz it's that flaky, crunchy crust which from my understanding was their unchanged and original dough recipe in Bari, Italy from the elder family. My FAV is their BBQ roast beef sandwich which is slowly roasted in the morning from what I was told. The BBQ flavor is a bomb, not overpowering and just the hint of the sweet & tangy taste. Dash it with their FRESH roasted hot peppers, OMG, its is heaven. My wife's FAV is the Sicilian Italian Sub with cold cuts of Cappacolla, Genoa and Cotto Salami that is loaded with lettuce, tomatoes and slice of cheese of your choice, must TRY. I recommend this place to all, get there early coz it can get really busy! Ask for that "soy oil" dressing coz it adds flavor to it, ENJOY read more

Young staff. Many mistakes. Calledin order...drove from Dos Lagos to pickup christmas eve lunch. Ordered 3 sandwiches. 2 cappicola, 1 ham n turkey. I asked for DOUBLE MEAT. The sandwiches were like $19 each! and the very thin layer of meat could never ne considered "double" asked for 1lb of mac salad and 1lb pasta salad. I came in to pay n pick up. The staff mber whp took my phone order rang up 2qty 2lb of each.I asked for 1lb of mac salad, 1lb pasta salad... the manager is now called over to void n re-ring order. She tells me they do NOT sell the salads in 1lb increments...i pointed tp the deli case and asked what those were inside w salads. She said those are 8oz containers... so you are telling me the options are 8oz or 2lb... no in between? Yep. What nonsense is THAT? Mind you, they gave me my 2lbs of pasta salad in 2qty 1lb containers. wth?? $73 for 3 sandwiches and 2lbs of not exciting pasta salad. This place is WAY off on their price point. There profit margin is ridiculous and "Extra" meat up charge for not even as much meat as a regular sub sandwich at Sixth Street Deli 5 minutes from my driveway. Never dissatisfied! I've been visiting the University Ave location since i was little. My grandparents loved it. When I am craving a grinder, this place always hits the spot!! Love the crunchy (outside) soft (inside) of the bread. I stick with a classic ham with extra oil. Simple but AMAZING!!! I went here for the first time in 6 years and I was sorely disappointed. I used to frequent this place because their turkey sandwiches were the best around. Beef grinder, with everything and extra oil(no dressing) and sprinkle chilli pepper. I have come with other people and watched them order other things but the beef grinder is what I crave. Messy, I am but the bread is crunchy and crazy good. Mostly bring it home to eat but have ate there. I just embarrass myself with my mess so prefer to clean up at home. The grinders are still good, although I don't go as much anymore because they did get more expensive. I was disappointed today, because I got some tea and there was trash, floating in the drain underneath the tea which grossed me out. I told the girl that somebody should come out and clean that because it looked gross or tell Management about it. She just smiled at me. I've been going over there for 55 years and everybody always used to be so friendly and greet you now it seems like the staff just takes your order and that's it. I've been coming here for over 20 years. Today I came and got 5 sandwiches for my family. They were made completely different from the past. I don't know if they got new workers that don't know the way they make sandwiches or if they've changed the way they make the sandwich. The meat is directly put on the bread, and when we opened our sandwiches, the bread was soaked with meat, juice, and the bread was soggy. Not just soggy but wet! I spent over $80 for 5 inedible sandwiches. Totally disappointed and feel ripped off. You can see it in the picture I've attached.
