I've been eating sandwiches for as long as I can remember and what intrigue me about this place was they said they were the best subs so I went in to completely empty restaurant. They do a lot of business. It seems to go orders, but I chose to stay there and eat, I ordered the Italian sandwich chips and a soda price was really reasonable, but I found the sandwich locking. I've never seen a sandwich with so little meat in it if you wanted bread with lettuce and mayonnaise that was the sandwich for you while I was waiting for my food another customer came in and was asking questions and the gentleman at the counter and the girl making the sandwiches after he left. They were talking smack about him in front of another customer. As far as the ambience there wasn't any, there was no decor. The TV in the middle of the restaurant was so high that the guy was talking on the phone couldn't hear the customers in person or over the phone what they were saying. I was very excited to take my daughter to my old college lunch spot. I raved about how delicious the Turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich was. First let me say it wasn't horrible but definitely wasn't the same. I was expecting smashed avocado like it used to be (about 20 years ago), freshly made bread, and a decent amount of bacon. I had pre-made bread (good but not great), like 2 small pieces of bacon and hardly any sliced avocado. An elder retired man great guy! 3 owners later you try to call in an order they won't answer the phone When they finally decide to answer they won't take your order they tell you we are closing soon we talking 1:30 -2:00 and I've been trying to call for over an hour .. also portion sizes have changed and the food's not as good as it used to be. They hardly give you any avocado on the turkey, bacon avocado sandwich, vegetables, taste old and not fresh. Quality has gone downhill all new different people all the time that shows they're having staff problems. My Hero Subs is a shell of its former self. I used to be a regular before it was sold. When I would visit it was all Coca Cola decorated. Since the new owner took over, he just doesn't have the pride of ownership that the previous owner had. The sandwiches aren't as tasty as before. And the upkeep is just terrible. Bathrooms are dirty, broken front door, preparation surfaces are dirty, tv panel inside is broken... it's just a shame to see a place slowly go down hill over the years since the new owner took place. I've been coming to this place for years! First as a student, then as an employee for the local government. The consistency in food and service was always welcomed as well as be affordable prices. Therefore, it was a shock when I saw a new table top and new menus, it looks like this restaurant is under brand new ownership! The best part is that nothing has changed, at all. I have ordered the turkey, bacon, and avocado with the salad for years and it hasn't changed. The salad is still delicious and the sandwich is ideal. The bread taste like something you get at food 4 less. Sauce was just Mayo. Overall the sandwich was honesty 90% bread as you can tell by the picture. I felt like I could make a way better sandwich than this at home. For 9 bucks, I would rather go to subway and I would get way more meat and cheese. Highly disappointed. After the remodel and new ownership, this sub place has transformed into this amazing sub eatery. Granted it's not meant to be a place to lounge, there are a few bar stools to sit, watch tv & have a cold one. The atmosphere is lively and fresh. Even the bathrooms are super quirky and cool. I would always order the roast beef, hot and it always hit the spot. I'll also grab a bag of chips & drink and I was good for lunch. They have various chips that you can choose from or you can get macaroni salad which tastes fresh. I love when I see chips of a brand that I've never seen or tried before, it's always exciting to try new chips! During lunch, it gets pretty busy and crowded but they get the orders out fairly quick which is awesome.
