Introduction: Baguette Bakery and Café, honestly the last time I was here was about ten years ago, when I was still in college at Riverside and living at Stonehaven. I remember always getting their Cajun shrimp sandwich and getting it on the go as I head to my next class or law fraternity meeting. After all these years I decide to get their Cajun shrimp as always but this time as a wrap. Food: Cajun Shrimp Wrap: The first bite transports me back ten years ago: the flavors and texture are exactly as I remember it. Their execution and quality haven't changed at all: in fact, it got better since the last time I've eaten here. The spices and flavors of the shrimps are what draws me to this sandwich/wrap; it's good to see that the flavors haven't changed. The shrimps are fresh and lightly sweet. Despite me not being a vegetable person, the vegetables inside the wrap are fresh, crisp, and refreshing: one can taste the vegetables' quality with each bite. Cookies: First time trying their cookies that's included in the combo and frankly I regard the cookies here as the best I've eaten in Los Angeles. Unlike conventional cookies, the ones at Baguette Bakery and Café are not too sweet; it is tame in its sweetness and suits the Asian palates better than conventional cookies that's served at other eateries. The texture is not too soft or too hard and dry, but instead it's smooth and has the right balance as one bites into and chews on the cookie. For those who has a sweet tooth, I recommend giving the cookies here a try: you won't regret it. Ambiance: Casual Price: Reasonable Service: The staffs here are accommodating and polite. Overall: When it comes to the eating establishments at Riverside, Baguette Bakery and Café is without a doubt premium eating in terms of their price, their culinary execution, and the freshness of the ingredients that are used. I've been coming to the Baguette Bakery since ~ 2010 when a pharmaceutical rep brought sandwiches from this bakery to my office. Back then, the Baguette Bakery had a glass case next to the register where they had delicious pastries. Today marks the end of having me as a patron. Part of the reason why the Baguette Bakery is such a hit is because they bake their bread fresh in-house. The sandwich I was served (see picture, area within black circle) had mold growing on it. A few months ago I dined at the Baguette Bakery and then stopped dining here because I had gotten food poisoning that evening and vomited. I thought it was because of something else I ate, but based on the food I was served today, it's very likely my food poisoning came from the Baguette Bakery. The fries they served me were practically burned and they put them on my tray and gave them to me. I don't know whether Isamar and the ladies in the back and the young workers don't care, but at this point, not having Tai's presence in the store more often is reflected in the quality of the food they serve. I'll be contacting the department of health to lodge my complaint against being served moldy food. read more

I've been coming to this Baguette for years! I ALWAYS get the Portobello Mushroom Sandwich on Ciabatta and it's delicious! Compared to 8 years ago when I came all the time to now their quality has stayed the same but they don't stuff the sandwich as much as they used to. Though I love the sandwiches I wish they filled it more with the other vegetables. I usually have to ask for extra lettuce and tomato to make sure I eat a decent amount. Sooo yummy and the owners/workers here are really sweet and kind. I ate here recently for a nostalgia kick because the last time I came here had to have been 10 or 15 years ago. Found it! Late lunchtime visit. A small café with great potential for good food. The sandwiches are on the small side, but I can almost not hold a grudge.... if it is very good. And it was. But it came with nary a bag of chips, fries, or even a salad to plump it out. I went with a spinach wrapper (you get to choose your bread option for any sandwich). The wrapper went extremely well, ate it all (unheard of) especially because I tend to leave half the bread on my plate. Wish there was more chicken, but loved the refreshing lettuce, tomato, and cuke rolled up inside. The combination made the whole sandwich bright. -Aioli exceptional, served on the side. -Steak and portabello on baguette. $6.15. The baguette would have made mama proud. It tasted freshly baked, not dry. But why would I probably not order this again? The low ratio of meat and mushroom to bread and veggies. And I swear, the portabello further masked the fact there was little meat. I saw Mr. B's lip drop and he kept lifting up the top of the roll, looking, as if more would magically appear. It did not match the price at all. And frankly, the flavor of the meat/mushrooms was rather boring. The aioli is what made this sandwich ok. Just a few bakery items remained. Yep, the cupboard was almost bare, but I got to quell the question of how are the cookies. I got me an oatmeal raisin (no nuts)cookie. Well, actually 3. That is how many come in a bag, sold for $1.50. Good deal, but you gotta like undercooked dough, and you gotta have a sweet tooth. Usually my favorite, it was way too sweet for my palate. I would pass on this one unless I had a cuppa coffee with an extra shot of espresso. Now on the other hand, there was that brownie! Almost fudge-like. Hey! Is there someone in the kitchen who likes eating raw dough, or what? Still, it was good. So where are the nuts, guys? Bottom line to this run-on review? I would definitely order the rosemary chicken in any form, again. But I would not run out to the back of UCR just to get it. I came here for lunch today and I was not disappointed. Service was nice and friendly. While the register isn't always occupied, workers are attentive to customers and ready to take orders. I ordered the portobello mushroom sandwich on ciabatta and loved it. Tomato, lettuce, jack cheese, and portobello mushrooms(plus condiments ofc). A simply built but honestly really tasty sandwich. I'd recommend getting the full sandwich - it's like $1-$2 more than the half. Fries and a soda are $2 more and the fries are tasty so I'd recommend it as well. My office has ordered a few times from here and they are always able to accommodate our last minute orders! Prices are reasonable and the quality of food has always been fresh. We've ordered a variety of their sandwiches and salads and everyone generally enjoys it. I've placed orders through text 3 hours prior to picking up my order and they've been able to fulfill those orders with short notice and were also quick to respond. The best part about this place is that even if you get a combo and order fries with your sandwich, you aren't left regretting your choice. The food isn't fattening and doesn't leave you feeling gross after eating it. They used to serve some beef sandwich that was my absolute favorite, but they discontinued it. Baguette is a place that I feel like has rarely been talked about in my circle of friends, but I feel like it deserves a little more love. FOOD: I really enjoyed the sandwiches I've had here! I got the rosemary chicken on ciabatta bread, and it wasn't heavy or loaded with sauce. It had a nice tang to it from the rosemary dressing, and the chicken was flavorful and moist. The lettuce is extra crunchy which was a nice contrast to the soft bun and chicken. The fries are standard; they taste like the fries I'd eat at a diner. For some really strange reason, Baguette makes the BEST green milk tea I've had in Riverside. It fits my tastes perfectly! It's sweet and milky, but has a strong green tea flavor that isn't bitter at all. I dunno what kind of sorcery goes into their tea, but I'm loving it. ATMOSPHERE/SERVICE: The store itself is small and unassuming, and is tucked away between Boba Tea House and Rockstar Shrimp. The interior is plain, but clean. I received super good service on a random Friday that I went in. I was telling the cashier how much I loved their green milk tea, and when I was about to leave after finishing my food, she called me over. She had accidentally made a green milk tea for another customer because of how much I was raving about it, and she gave it to me! I was honestly so surprised and happy haha. VALUE: A meal can run you up $15, or as low as $5, depending on what you order. Their more specialty sandwiches are more expensive, save for their rosemary chicken. The drinks are about $3 and a soft drink is like $1.50. Compared to some of the other sandwich places in Riverside, it is pretty affordable; it's probably around the same range as Tummy Stuffer, but way cheaper than Simple Simon's. OVERALL: Baguette has really strange operating hours, but I would come back for their affordable sandwiches, amazing green milk tea, and to support a small business! As a UCR student, Baguette is conveniently located close to campus and also offers a 10% discount to UCR students when you show them your student ID. I seriously can't get enough of Baguette. Many of my friends know how obsessed I am with this place. I can literally eat here every week and not get sick of it at all. From quality, fresh ingredients to the friendly and hospitable staff, Baguette has a comfortable and warm aroma about the place. One of Baguette's best-selling sandwiches is the Steak Portabello on Toasted Ciabatta. I have tried Baguette's other sandwiches, however this particular sandwich is what I order almost every time. The grilled steak and portabella mushrooms are a perfect combination. The vegetables are fresh and the ciabatta is toasted just right! Lastly, their sandwiches include Baguette's signature sandwich spread, which adds the perfect flavor to their sandwiches! I personally ask for an extra side of their sandwich spread with my meal (at no additional charge). Not only is their signature sandwich spread delicious in their sandwiches, but I also dip my french fries in this spread! Sandwiches can be ordered by itself or be made into a combo with a drink and side of either french fries, chips, cookies, or side salad. I highly recommend ordering a sandwich combo with a side of their FRESHLY made french fries. In addition to Baguette's sandwiches and salads, I have also enjoyed their pastries. I have tried their cheese danish & raspberry danish which are both AMAZING. I already ate a steak portabello combo with fries, but I could not stop eating the danishes. They were too delicious! I have also enjoyed Baguette's smoothies and iced teas. They were a great addition to my meal. There is a complimentary pitcher of water and cups so customers are free to get as much water as they want. In terms of price range, a combo meal would typically range from $6-$8. The pastries range from $2-$3 and the smoothies/iced teas range from $3-$4. There are about 5 tables in Baguette. Three booth tables and two smaller tables that seat around 2 people. I have gone to baguette at different times, ranging from noon to later in the evening, however it is never too crowded. I have not had any problems finding a table to sit in. My girl friends and I enjoy eating at Baguette because the food is delicious and it is a good place to catch-up and talk :) Unfortunately, Baguette is not well-advertised and the sign is so small it makes this hidden cafe very easy to miss. When you're driving along Blaine, it is impossible to notice and see this place. The best way for me to describe the location of Baguette is to say that it is right next to Boba Tea House, because Boba Tea House has a far more larger and distinct sign. In conclusion, the overall quality of the food at Baguette is definitely worth trying and experiencing yourself. I eat lunch here at least once a week. The staff is friendly, and the menu is limited in a good way. They offer a variety of maybe 5 sandwiches, and they're all good. They seemed to get the formula right: offer a few specialized, quality menu items that you do well instead of a huge range of mediocre food that's only worth eating on the go. When I go here, I like to just sit down and enjoy my meal. The rosemary chicken sandwich is amazingly good, and I order it every time I eat there. Pair it with an order of fries (PERFECTLY cooked; crispy on the outside and tender inside). This is a great local business, and it's really bringing some life into to community around UCR. I don't think Subway can even compare to this place. It is so convenient for college students who are on the run for food. The employees are fast and everything is made fresh. I always order the full combo of grilled beef or rosemary chicken (since that is most recommended). Fries are always hot and fresh, along with a drink :) well besides fries, you have a choice of side salad, chips, or cookies. But who doesn't love their fries!? As she was eating her fries, she said "here look at this" I got one of her fries and it was cold/hard. I was "WOW" I didn't say anything about it due to the fact that every other fry was cooked fine. The other small thing I have to say is..."WHERE IS THE MEAT?" Full sandwich my butt! It needed some more meat on this "full" sandwich. After finishing the food, I was still freakin' hungry. This place is like a hole in the wall kinda place. It might look all ghetto on the outside, but the inside is actually decent and nice. When I came here I got the Steak Portibello combo-- and it was REALLY good. It's not like the SGV/West Minister Vietnamese Baguette places-- it's different and more "Americanized." First off, the texture of the bread is different-- sorta like soft and fluffy compared to the bread being hard and chewy. Additionally, the Steak Portibello was very flavorful and the meat wasn't dry or anything like that. Although I've had their food a few times before, it was always delivered by my wife. Today was my first trip there and I have collected enough information for a review. I'll start with the positive. The store is clean, and while there are few tables, most people come for a quick meal or get things to go so it seems like there shouldn't be much of an issue with finding a seat if you plan to eat in. The food is decent, although the sandwiches are light on ingredients. For example, my cajun shrimp sandwich today had maybe 10 tiny shrimps scattered throughout the sandwich, which was barely enough to complement the bread. Oh, and one shrimp had some shell left on it. Definitely was better last time I got the same thing... You order at the counter, and at least today there was only one girl working the counter and two in the back making sandwiches. For whatever reason, the food came out very slowly and the first time around they missed my side order. Just not very systematic or efficient in general. It saddens me to write a bad review for this little place. I really do like this shop, it's clean and the bread is delicious, and the drawings are food, I have been coming here for years now but as of late the salads have yellow lettuce, like BRIGHT yellow! I tried to call the day it happened but nobody answered the phone. I figured it was late in the week I'd let it go pick out the bright yellow and eat what was left( hardly a salad after that!) thankfully I got the chicken with my salad. Tried coming here for the first time and was looking to grab some breakfast, but when I tried to order once I arrived at the place the cashier told me that they don't serve breakfast? It wasn't too big of a problem, so I just ordered a turkey and bacon sandwich.
