For what you pay, just go to Brandon's Diner for real service and flavor. Food is decent when fresh and not something sitting that was previously cooked. Just don't go when the "owner" (old white guy with glasses) is cooking because apparently since he is incapable of folding a breakfast burrito with eggs overeasy he won't do it. A ten year old can do it but it's too messy for the owner and he refuses. Any other day it's never been a problem for the other real cooks. Imagine being a restaurant owner that serves half Mexican food and American and you can't fold a burrito because the eggs are overeasy? If you are incapable, stay out the kitchen and stick to running the back end. The cooks probably despise when he shows up to "help" as he slows everybody down with the pace of a turtle. But he's the owner and it's his restaurant so screw the customer, no exceptions. It was a simple request but I guess he doesn't need the business and he won't lose any sleep over it. read more

I loved coming to this place but unfortunately after this last visit it's probably going to be my last. I called and placed a pick up order at 7:07pm. I live about 30mins away and asked if the the nacho cheese could be served on the side, and she agreed but from there I noticed a tone of annoyance. I arrived and paid for my order by 7:24pm. I did not end up leaving until 7:47pm. I watched them place a box on the top shelf of the stove containing an order, but I figured it was someone else's pick up order. I then proceeded to watch 5 customers after me walk up to the window, place their order, and then leave with their food in a timely manner. I took my receipt to the pick up window and the cashier immediately knew who I was, grabbed the box I saw them place on the shelf, and then told me they're just waiting on the cheese that I asked to be set on the side. Not sure if asking for the cheese to be on the side merited me waiting over 20mins. Mind you I would have been perfectly okay if she said it couldn't be done. I just wouldn't have ordered them. Not sure if there was an issue, but not once was that communicated to me. Nevertheless, this left me with an experience that makes me not want to come back. read more

I came here for their breakfast burritos after seeing a video online claiming they were the best in Riverside. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience. I ordered two burritos--one original with bacon and sausage, and the other was a recommendation from one of the workers, the pastrami steak burrito. Both were pretty underwhelming. The place itself is really cool and has an old-school vibe, which I liked a lot. The service was also quite good. But overall, the food just didn't live up to the hype. read more

George's has been a staple in Riverside for years. When it comes to a good burger or pastrami sandwich, you can't really go wrong there. Things have definitely changed throughout the years, but the food has mostly remained consistently good. I'm a sucker for good bacon, so I love that they still use really good bacon and haven't changed to that gross paper bacon that most places use nowadays. Their ranch and 1000 island are always on point, too. Occasionally we'll get a fatty pastrami sandwich but it's rare that it happens. The fries are always good and they also have fried zucchini and fried mushrooms. Lately the zucchini has been a bit soggy, even when we order it extra crispy. The biggest reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the decline in customer service. When the owners ran it, they were always so pleasant and friendly. I don't know if the girl at the front now is a family member or what, but she is just so unpleasant. She's always rude on the phone (when you can get her to answer it) and in person. Now, I understand if someone is having a bad day or it's busy and you're focused on that. However, we've tried several different times with this girl, and it's always the same. It doesn't take much to smile at a customer or say "thank you" or "have a good day", etc. Especially when the customer is nice to you. And a small kindness can go a long way. We are a large family, usually 10 or more of us when we go out to eat. Because of that, we're always looking for good places where we can enjoy a meal together. We also try to support small mom-and-pop restaurants whenever we can instead of going to big chains. This time I convinced the family to drive about 40 minutes to try George's Drive-In in Riverside instead of going to Buffalo Wild Wings, which is only about 15 minutes from us. We really wanted to support a small spot. Since we're a big group, our order was pretty large. Some of the order came out wrong, which I understand can happen with a large order. We also paid for extra pastrami on some items and didn't receive it, but we didn't complain because mistakes happen. What was disappointing was the customer service. My daughter went to the counter to ask for some yellow peppers, and the cashier responded with attitude. That part was discouraging. We truly try to support small businesses and local restaurants, but good customer service makes a big difference, especially when families are choosing where to spend their money. Really rude with 0 customer service. His cashier misheard me when I said my order and I can see why the cashier was confused. If you have individual items per priced in your menu, why do you say that you guys don't serve them as individuals? I ordered chili cheese fries and 2 individual strips as a side which confused the cashier. I explained to him what happened and he was super rude to his cashier and me, stating he doesn't serve that only as side? I ordered the "famous pastrami" sandwich $12 and made it a combo. Total was $21.30 with taxes. So you would think after paying that amount of money I could as for a single sauce and nope another $.90. Look I get the extra fee for extra sauces when people go over board. However it's 1 sauce for my expensive combo . The window attendant was holding off on the sauce as if her life depended on it lol. An institution here in Riverside for decades, the same Family has owned and operated it since 1974. Delicious homemade food. Great breakfast burritos served all day and night, amazing fried mushrooms and zucchini with a side of their homemade buttermilk dip, great fried fish sandwich, big grinders, also gotta try the "Pochito" chili dog burrito, homemade hard shell tacos, their banana splits and ice cream sundaes hit the spot, and their churros are large and awesome too! They were cooked well and the onions on top were a good addition. However, once you get past the chili the fries by themselves had no seasoning and were plain. They got a new owner so the food is they obviously don't care about the quality after being vegan for years and moving away coming back I was excited to try George's again... I saw the reviews where people said the owner changed and the food quality wasn't good, I didn't want to believe it but DAMN it's bad for reference I got the nuggets and fries, I even asked for them extra crispy, figured it's hard to mess that up. & zucchini fries that had no flavor... Classic California food: burgers, sandwiches, burritos, and breakfast. You name it and George's probably has it. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Situated in a seedy corner lot on Magnolia and Harrison, don't let the semi-dilapidated surroundings fool you; this place is no joke. Try not to let your guard down while you are eating truly the best burger you can get in Riverside. The price is fair, but can add up quick as refills are not self serve or free and additional sauces (beyond ketchup and similar condiments) are not complimentary. Ranch is just shy of a dollar at .90¢. As much as I loathe paying extra for sauces, the amount of fries they give you seems to justify the upcharge, but, in my opinion, they should charge for EXTRA sauces and maybe include one with a combo. Seems nitpicky but those who need ranch with their fries can sympathize. Their breakfast special is fine, and you very much get what you pay for price and food wise. Again, start adding sides and the price becomes reminiscent of non-fast food sit down diner prices and, to me, that is not justifiable here. As far as other things on the menu, I cannot vouch for the wildly popular breakfast burritos but they were being ordered nonstop while I was visiting. I have tried the pastrami but it was very salty; but that's the nature of the game. With a menu like this, you are bound to hit a roadblock at some point. Just come back and try again. All that being said, this place really is quality and gives a quantity that you don't really see very often. My personal suggestion would be to get a chocolate milkshake with the burger combo, that's what really makes this place a 5/5. You won't regret it. Those in the know, know about George's. We got one cheeseburger special (1/4 pound burger, side of fries and a large soda) and it was fantastic! The fries were delicious and more than enough for two people to eat. Freshly fried to perfection and so tasty! The burger was also fantastic--love their special sauce, lettuce was crisp and fresh. We drove in, ordered and were out in less than 5 minutes.
