D Baker's Lab is a new dessert spot in Carson focusing on the classic Filipino dessert halo-halo, which literally translates to "mix-mix." First, a little disclaimer: I don't think there's one "perfect" way to make halo-halo. A lot of it comes down to personal preference and which ingredients you enjoy. As long as you have the basics--shaved/crushed ice, evaporated milk, ube halaya, ice cream, and an assortment of goodies like beans, jellies, rice crispies, flan, bananas, etc.--everyone has their own version that hits the spot. When I visited, there was only one staff member working, but he was friendly, helpful, and handled everything well. The first thing that caught my attention was the large neon halo-halo sign and the digital menu displayed on the TV. Both looked great and definitely gave the shop some personality. Then I looked over and saw the familiar folding tables and chairs you'd normally see at a family party. I'm not sure if they're still in a soft-opening stage or if this is already the finished setup, but the seating area could use a little more work. This location used to be Ben Scoops, another Filipino-inspired ice cream shop, and you can still see some remnants of the previous store. It doesn't seem like there was a major redesign of the space. One thing to keep in mind: there's no public restroom for customers. For the halo-halo, I ordered the Classic and the Avocado. Both were good and I enjoyed trying them, but personally, they weren't the best halo-halo I've had. Carson--and the surrounding South Bay area--has a huge Filipino community with plenty of restaurants and dessert shops, so there's definitely a lot of competition. There are other places nearby where I can get halo-halo that I enjoy just as much, if not more, for a lower price. Still, I'm glad I gave D Baker's Lab a try. They have a creative menu with several interesting halo-halo variations, so you may find one that fits your taste better than the traditional version. Location tip: It can be a little hard to spot. It's in the same plaza as Thai BBQ and tucked toward the middle corner of the shopping center. I'd still come back to try some of their other flavors though--maybe one of those will be the one that really hits the spot for me Overall: good halo-halo, friendly service, and a cool neon presentation--but for the price and the amount of Filipino dessert competition around Carson, I'd probably explore a few other options too.

Tucked away in the back of the shopping plaza on Carson and Grace, this is their second location and is currently in its soft opening phase. They offer a great selection of halo-halo desserts and speciality drinks. I tried their Cucumansi Refresher and Sea Salt Cream Matcha--both were sold choices. The Cucumansi was refreshing, not overly sweet and cucumber forward. I liked that it wasn't overly tart. The matcha was perfect! It was earthy and the sweetness from the cream topping was minimal. They also serve Siomai (pork and shrimp, along with a variety of baked goods. The staff were welcoming and transparent about unavailable menu items which was understandable! There's plenty pf free parking available and several nearby shops worth checking out while in the area. Overall, I had a great experience and am looking forward to their grand opening on July 18.

They are fairly new (we went during grand opening) so patience is definitely needed! They are sweet and want to make your experience the best. The parking lot is shared amongst other businesses but it is not too difficult to find! They have premium classic Filipino desserts. The workers are kind and their service reflects that! The ambiance is cute inside and they have a theme song which I thought was cute. I recommend their mango sticky rice halo halo! We also ordered the avocado pistachio halo halo which wasn't too sweet. We definitely ate these items quickly.

Food: Came here twice before grand opening and tried the different halo halo's. OG supreme halo halo I'd give a 3/5, the flan that was in it tasted tangy rather than sweet. The chocolate pistachio a 4/5. The mango crumble 3/5. Mango sticky rice 3/5. If you're expecting your typical halo halo with red beans and all that other stuff. Then this is not the place for you. I want to say their halo halo has a "modern" twist to it. 90% of the cup is shaved ice & the other 5% are the toppings. Unlike your regular halo halo where you have red beans, jelly, langka, coconut gel, the sugar palm fruit. THEY DONT HAVE THAT. It's just the jello looking things. So if you don't like what's in a regular halo halo & you just want something simple with a modern twist, this is THE RIGHT spot for you. They do charge $12-$16 (for the specialty ones). They sell other things other than halo halo, which are drinks & small eats. Which I think is pretty nice! Service - they are fast, friendly & efficient. Ambiance - lots of parking around the area since it's in a plaza. Lots of CUTE photo ops inside the place. REMINDER- I did go before grand opening. So they are probably just getting their stuff ready & everything.

Just in time for the summer, D Baker's Lab has made its way to the city of Carson! It's not your traditional Filipino halo halo, it's a more milky and frosty version with all your favorite and familiar toppings. Halo Halo means mix mix in Tagalog. Traditionally its shaved ice, condensed milk, evaporated milk, and a variety of fruits, jellies, and sweet beans. I may have a preference for the original however, this was a sweet and cold treat to cool off on a hot day- can't complain! Customer service was excellent. I visited before their official grand opening so the interior was still in the works but I saw the vision. Mainly indoor seating will be available. Plenty of parking. Check this spot out and give it a try! I'm always so happy to support and see more Filipino small businesses pop up in the city.

Service was nice, and since it wasn't busy, our wait time was only about 6 minutes. For dessert, we ordered the OG Supreme and Mango Sticky. Dessert are more of a Halo-Halo fusion than a traditional Halo-Halo. The OG Supreme contains more jelly and doesn't include classic toppings like jackfruit, bananas, beans. The desserts were good, but the prices are on the higher side compared to other Halo-Halo or mango sticky rice dessert spots. For comparison, similar desserts store such as Mango Mango are around $9.75, while the 16 oz Elite here is $16.99 and classic is $12.99.If you're looking for something unique, it's worth trying, but just be prepared for the higher price.

The good... nice selection of halo-halo variations, good-size portion and fresh flavors. The bad... we waited 20 mins for our order - only 4 orders ahead of us... granted it is still the soft opening and clearly kids running the counter.. I hope they figure out the flow.. otherwise I wouldn't wait that long again

First time coming here and it was okay. Took them a while to make my halo-halo even when they're not busy. Staff spend more time chatting than getting the orders come out more quickly and efficiency.

Their og halo halo

I tried their OG halo-halo and liked it so much I came back the same day to try the mango sticky rice. I've had it about 3 times in the last few days, so it's safe to say I'll be a returning customer. The desserts are really good, but $17.99 for a large feels a bit steep. Maybe lowering the price a bit could encourage more people to come back more often. As much as I enjoy it, the price did catch me off guard.

I don't crave halo halo often, but when I do, I'm getting the UPSIDE DOWN HALO HALO from here!…read moreWhile it isn't the most traditional version of the dessert, it still has all of my favorite parts. I love that the base is an ube milkshake and the corn flakes add a nice crunch. I'm glad they opened this Carson location because it's closer to me and I can fulfill my cravings!

My partner and I stopped by Cafe 86 in Carson hoping we had found our next go-to halo-halo spot…read more Unfortunately, authenticity and customer service were both missing from the recipe. Parking was easy, and when we walked in, there was only one occupied table. Three employees were chatting in the back. We were greeted, but it felt more like, "What would you like?" than "Welcome in." No smile, no conversation, no thank you--just a transaction. After taking our order, the employee returned to chatting with coworkers. When our order was ready, our name was called, the halo-halo was placed on the counter, and that was the end of the interaction. As for the halo-halo itself, my partner rated it a 2/10. It was overwhelmingly sweet and overpriced for what we received. We were hoping for layers of flavor and nostalgia but got a sugar rush that could probably power a small city. As a business owner myself, I understand that customer service is one of the biggest drivers of customer retention. Great products can bring people in once, but great service brings them back. Unfortunately, this visit missed the mark on both. The good news? These issues are fixable. A little more warmth, engagement, and hospitality would go a long way. Until then, we'll continue our search for our next favorite halo-halo spot.

Wow... this place checks all the boxes for us!…read more First off, customer service was amazing. The young man that helped us today was so kind and patient with us, (my 4yr old wanted to touch everything and he let him ring the bell to get it out of his system lol). He went above and beyond expected. Wish I asked his name... I'll do an updated review with his name when we come back! Secondly, they have the BEST Vegan ice cream we've ever had. My son (lactose intolerant), had the vegan strawberry flavor and it was so rich and flavorful. Trust... we've had a fair share of not so great vegan/dairy free ice cream. Excited to try other flavors. Lastly, the place is located in an outdoor food court (Enclave) where there is plenty of indoor/outdoor seating. Beautiful place and scenery. They even have some outdoor games for anyone to play. It was pretty cool! We will definitely be coming back. Thank you!

They are located right inside one of the open concept buildings right by a bar. I love that they had a bunch of different flavors including seasonal flavors as well. They also have creations they make. Sadly they do not allow sampling anymore and they were out of a lot of different flavors while I was there. I got a small which allows up to two different flavors. I went with their chocolate peanut butter and thai tea flavor. Both were pretty good but nothing crazy. The person I came with got their coconut and some other flavor they enjoyed. I love that they have unique asian inspired flavors and exotic fruit flavors. It has the right consistency and sweetness. A small was perfect for each of us. There is communal seating. It's more of a counter and you order and they just hand it to you. The place is very casual. Overall I would come back and try their other flavors.

We also added tiramisu afterwards. The shaved ice is soft like clouds and almost creamy in texture. You dig in and there's more fruit underneath. Out of the 3 I'll rank sweet corn as the highest, next mango last matcha. Sweet corn nailed down all the elements I want because of the crunchy toppings. But they have so many other flavors so if I ever go back to this area I'll try the other ones. Tiramisu is also a good option if you don't want shaved ice. The place is crowded with groups and for a place that has fluorescent lighting it did not matter as I noticed customers stayed and we also ended up being here for over 1.5+ hours. Maybe that's why they have Stevie wonder "overjoyed" on continuous play? Is that a ploy to get customers out? It didn't work for us and made us laugh until we cried because it played endlessly for 27 times!!! So yes 1 star less for a broken playlist or whatever sound system they use.

Review #998 2026-068…read more Lychee Berry with Crystal Boba $6.58 Large Strawberry Mochi Shaved Ice (served w/strawberry bunny jello, mochi, fresh strawberry, house special strawberry puree) $11.71 Formerly Get Shaved, Boba Bunny Coffee & Tea takes over with a stylish pink-themed dining space & IG-worthy shaved ice with cute jiggly animal jellos. The boba shop is located on the northwest corner next to Dentist of Old Torrance with plenty of parking. The shop's dining space is mostly of 2-tops that can be adjusted to seat larger groups, with a unisex restroom is in the back. There's a corner to the right of the entrance with a Boba Bunny neon sign & powder blue scooter that's great for taking pics! I first learned of the shop via Toast last year when they offer a $2.00 birthday treat. My son has tried most of the local boba shops so I wanted to see how this ranks on his list. The menu is pretty extensive for its size with: fresh fruit teas, blended fruit/smoothies, fruit yogurt, fruit mocktails, premium milk teas, pure teas, cheesy bunny teas, tea lattes, ice milks, coffees, toppings ice creams, build your own (bubble) waffle, bubble waffle combo, churros, shaved ice, hot sandwiches/paninis, toasts, croissants, rice bowls, salads, munchies, add-ones... whew! There's also collectible boba bear bottles that's refillable; I don't think the refillable bottle is more than their large drinks unlike some other shops with refill options. Stopping by on a late Saturday morning, it was quiet. It took a few minutes to peruse their menu & I had a few questions since the electronic menu & kiosk didn't have a description of the ingredients. I ordered Lychee Berry with Crystal Boba, & M picked a large Strawberry Mochi Shaved Ice. It took a few minutes before my order was ready. I liked the Lychee Berry... it has a floral & sweet tart taste from the lychees & strawberries, with a moderate serving of crystal boba. The shaved ice was definitely IG-worthy! It's piled high with ice fluff & topped with fresh strawberries, mochis, & a strawberry bunny jello; their house special strawberry purée, a bit too sweet for my liking, is set aside to prevent diluting the shaved ice. The mochi is colored, but it doesn't taste flavored or fresh (in-house) made; fresh as in chewy & pillowy like a marshmallow. The jiggly bunny makes a fun pic (see videos)! M thought it was funny to tap its behind, & we had it angled so that it looks like it's eating a pink mochi. Hehehe... While it's creative to a certain extent & tasty, the menu is on the expensive side for the serving size. Service was positive since we were the only customers, though slow due to the order execution process. Alas, the location is not quite marketable even though there's high traffic from Ralph's. It's the same owner, rebranding the Boba Bunny to Phin Coffee a couple of months ago after 2 years as a boba shop, which makes sense since there was a special run 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a 20% discount on coffee & matcha before the transition.

Luckily this was one of the stands that had good reviews, so I gave it a shot. Between the language barrier and my excitement for dessert, I somehow ended up ordering more than I planned. The ice cream was good and the Asian-inspired flavors were definitely different from the usual. It didn't completely blow my socks off, but it was a solid treat. I kept thinking a little syrup or extra topping would've taken it up another level. Overall, glad I tried it. Half the fun of these food events is randomly discovering stuff you normally wouldn't eat anyway. I'd probably check out their Torrance brick-and-mortar location sometime and give them another shot.
