Ilocano cooking is very difficult to find anywhere except in the Northern part of the Philippines. However, for folks who really crave for "goat" dishes that are as close to your grandfather's adobo, kaldereta, kilawin, sinampalukan and papaitan, I'd say, Vigan Express is the best measure of what truly an Ilocano goat delicacy. I can write a novel about these dishes but would like those who crave for an authentic Ilocano dish to visit this small cookery in the heart of Torrance, California. Reading the comments and reviews made me feel sorry about how others felt when visiting VE. Their staff are the nicest and kindest of all while the couple who owns this place, makes every effort to say hello and thank you, after every visit to their store. They also serve other authentic Filipino dishes which in essence attracts nearby Filipinos and other folks at the UCLA Harbor Hospital, a huge source of their orders and customers. I try to drive from LA to have a taste of these delicacies otherwise they'll run out early on. It's a Filipino cuisine, but they have a special menu "kambing" (goat). They have kilawin, sinampalokan and papaitan those thing they don't serve on the counter, you have to ask the for it because they have it inside the kitchen. But they have adobong kambing on Tuesday and kalderetang kambing on Thursday, both dish are so good the meat is tender, if you craving for kambing recommend to try this spot. Authentic and fresh Filipino dish. I always TRY to get their breakfast meal but I'm always late. It's always sold out most of their dishes sold out too quickly! But I've learned my lesson that's why before I get up. I make sure to call them to save my food whenever I needed. Also, they have the BEST "Turon" in town! My mom and I were running errands nearby and my mom was wanting to get some Filipino food. It has been awhile since we visited this place and decided to check it out. Their combos are pretty decent in price. A 2 item combo runs at $7.40. We got our combo with the beef mechado. They gave a good amount of beef along with lots of sauce. The beef mechado was a great entree. It was very flavorful and I liked how saucy it was. The thick sauce was perfect over the white rice. This place was good for a quick stop for good Filipino food and I'd be willing to visit again. read more

A night shifter's favorite breakfast spot. Opens right at 7am and has a good deal for Filipino breakfast combos! Their quick service is greatly appreciated after a long 12hr shift. It seems like they change some of their dishes each morning so you can change up your combos and not get tired of their food. I first found this place by following an ant like of Filipinos at lunch time coming from the nearby Harbor UCLA hospital. I was not disappointed. The food selection is limited and you need to get there early because once the batch is gone, that's it for the day. The table space is limited but I like that because you just sit down and eat with whoever is there. The conversation is friendly and often in Tagalog. The food though is to die for Vigan style food. Perfect taste every time, and I've been there many times. I would say this is my number 1 Filipino lunch choice in the LA South Bay. Remember, get there early before the dog pile of people in medical smocks eat everything. read more

YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2018 - PART 2: 99/100 It's not one of those places to bring a party of, let's say, 20. No. It's a really small place. They only have 2 tables inside that can seat no more than 3 or 4 each. Didn't notice if they had any seating outside. Their turo-turo for meal combos isn't made of a vast selection either. But that's not what I came here for. I came to pre-order their famous Vigan longanisa to take and prep at home. There was that sudden craving for it and as most family members have learned, this is THE place for it. Came through early Saturday morning, I asked if they had any available. Cashier apologized saying they have some except they aren't up for sale as the casings keep breaking. No biggie. I asked if I can pre-order for pick up "tomorrow." She apologized again saying if I were to pre-order, the earliest I can do a pick up is on Wednesday. They are THAT popular! $8/dozen, I put in an order for a couple. I've had it before and I can attest that it is one of the best I've had outside of the homeland. Don't let the ones sold at groceries fool you - I've had my share. Some were okay, most are subpar if not just downright NASTY. So, if you're lucky enough to find yourself in this area and have a taste for it, this is the place. I just wish they served it along with their breakfast combos because that would be AWESOME!!! Cashier was nice. Service with a smile is always a plus. I might just come back and try their combos sometime... in the meanwhile, looking forward to having their longanisa for dinner soon! read more

Been a minute trying to find ilocano food near Torrance area and I've lived here for 4 years now. Been craving my dad's pinapaitan but flying back home to Hawaii would be pretty expensive for a bowl of pinapaitan. Wife was craving some balatong as well. I went into shop and found out they sell pinapaitan! My fat heart was filled with joy. And to my surprise they also had Kilawen. Order me XL balatong, pinapaitan, and reg. kilawen. The balatong reminded me of my childhood whenever my grandma wanted me to eat vegetables so she hid either pork, beef, or lechon in the balatong for me to scoop it up. So the balatong was definitely on point. Very savory and either hot/cold rice. Decent amount that lasted till the next day. Fair share of meat as well. The pinapaitan and Kilawen brought me back to hanging out with the uncles in Filipino parties acting like a grown up. Loved the pinapaitan although the amount of meat to soup ratio for the price was very disappointing. I'm used to green onions and chopped white onions on my kilawen but idk if that's just a Hawaii thing (throwing green onions/white onions on everything LOL). Wish I had photos to share but my excitement went straight to munching. Will be back, especially when I'm homesick. read more

This place has AMAZING kilawen kambing and it's my dad's favorite ! We get it from here every other week if I'm being honest. They currently don't allow dine in and they're a fairly small establishment. I like to call ahead if you're ordering the kilawen. And they do close pretty early so keep a look out for that. They're a small business so they close when they sell out pretty much. Might want to call if you're visiting late afternoon. My only complaint would just be the customer service.. read more

Best fast food around!!!! Family ran, been in business for over 15 years. I eat there almost daily lately, been coming here for years... But come early. They run out of food quickly (sometimes out by 12:30 pm). A must if you want FAST (food is premade daily)good old fashion home cooked Filipino food. I have been loving the breakfast here lately. The garlic fried rice, tapa, bangus, and torta talong is my go to order. I like the breakfast here more than the other Filipino places near me. Their goat dishes are also the best! It's very tender and cooked very well. They cook the goat three ways, adobo, caldereta, and a sinigang-like style. That's funny my friend Jake told me about this place and he's known for loving meat like he eats meat three times a day but I misheard it as a vegan place not vigan. Anyways, that's my first ever time in my whole life when I try goat meat, I gota say it is absolutely amazing. This place was recommended to me for goat. I went in for some kalderetta kambing (goat stew) and they didn't have it. I couldn't understand the Hispanic lady behind the counter. She was trying to tell me, in super fast broken English, that they only had a certain type of goat dish that day. After that ordeal, both the server and cashier were rude and snappy. Went here the other day for some sinampalukan kambing and it was the shizzzzzaaa! Also had the kilawin, but not that big of a fan of kilawin kambing. We ordered a couple o combo plates as well. The inabraw was amazing it was so on point. I kinda wish that I just ordered that. The beef mechado was tender, but bland. The dinuguan was awesome. The place was hot and I was sweating my balls off and that wasn't very pleasant. When I go back to LA I definitely would go back for some more sinampalukan and inabraw. read more
