When it comes to Viet food, the RVA community ensures that there are a there are a ton of really great, family owned options. As a result, d'Annam has some formidable competition as it steps into the local food scene. Located in a former Burger King, the restaurant stands out for its sleek interior and thoughtful details (see cute boat shaped utensil holder). I tried the Bún Bò Hué, vermicelli bowl, and Bán Xéo. The serving sizes were great and had good flavor overall. While the ambiance inside makes for a great date night, it comes with a slight price increase compared to your typical mom and pop restaurant.

Ambience: The outside is really nothing crazy, but once I walked in those doors, I was blown away by how intentional the owners have been with the space. From the wooden awnings, the rainbow of lanterns, rattan lampshades, down to the ceramic cups at each table, every corner has gentle nods to Vietnamese culture bathed in a soft ambient glow. Each table even comes with a little flyer to explain the story behind the restaurant. The tableware -- even the container that utensils come in- is so cute and beautiful. Service 5/5: Everyone was truly so welcoming and happy to answer any questions you had, it was easy and never felt like a bother. Food 4/5: the food was good, full of umami. I was a bit disappointed that they did not have their hot stone pho yet but I will be back to try that. I got their Bun Bo Hue and my friend got their Indochine fried rice. The rice had great flavor, solid dish. The bun bo hue was not the most standout version that I have had, but it was still delicious. I think it would be a very good introduction to bun bo hue for people who have never tried it before and are mildly adventurous. I personally miss some of the toppings that I've had in other versions, but entirely respect their decisions. One thing to note is that their spring rolls come one per order. Overall, great restaurant for a wide audience to come and try some delicious Vietnamese food with approachable options, friendly staff, and great ambience! Don't be fooled by the exterior!

Excellent meal at a new restaurant in the area. Soft opening in early February, so still adding items to the menu and fine-tuning things. Decor was nicely upscale and inviting, and the hostess was friendly and welcoming. Even though a new place, lunch was busy. The food we had was excellent; the broths were flavorful, the homemade noodles were toothsome and not overcooked. Wife subbed shrimp for the beef in her dish, and we were happily surprised by the amount of shrimp she received - with no additional up charge. My dish was nicely spiced (although I did add some extra chili sauce). Fresh tea was loose leaf and fragrant, steeping in pot placed over warming candle. Spoke with the owner who was very friendly. We discussed the menu and he agreed that they were keeping it smaller to focus on providing the best quality. Definitely a place that is worth a visit.

Visited on 2/12/26 - there are a few menu items missing as it's a new restaurant and they're still growing. My husband and I had a lovely experience here. My favorite dish out of everything we tried was the entree, d'Annam Signature Rice Plate (Cơm Nhà Combo). The proteins were all flavored so perfectly with a lemongrass taste. The chili oil on the table added a nice little kick and added flavor. Also enjoyed sauces on the table including fish oil, soy sauce, Sriracha and hoisin. Out of the appetizers we tried, the cheesecake roll was our favorite - would definitely be good as a dessert as well. The eggroll and wings were satisfactory but didn't blow us away. Staff were very friendly and overall it was a great experience - we can't wait to return to try more menu items.

Finally, another Vietnamese restaurant that serves Banh Xeo. So colorful, fresh and crunchy. Such a workout dish. Messy and yummy at the same time. Shout out to the best waiter in town - Brian. He was our waiter the first week they opened and he recognized us the second time we came. He is so patient and attentive. Loved talking to him about the culture. Will hope that he is my waiter the third time I attend. Can you believe this building was a Burger King!! Wonderful and creative decor.

The owner was so kind, helping us to figure out what to order. He was our primary server and he wanted to ensure that we had the best experience. We had tea, a Vietnamese one described as being "grassy "but it was delicious as we waited for the pot to steep. I got the second Pho under the signature one. I had requested Shrimps instead of beef. No extra charge for eight of them. Pho Bo was its name. Hubby got Bun Bo Hue but as usual he spiced it with the chili garlic paste found on our table. But he allowed me a sip of his broth beforehand. Both of our Phos were perfect. This restaurant is having a soft opening so just a few items are not yet available but the flavors today indicate a promising grand opening. The outside of this restaurant has not been converted enough but the inside is very well decorated. We will have to return.

    food is delicious!

I have heard good things from colleagues, some of them state that this is their favorite ramen in Richmond, though I have to say, I'm not convinced this place deserves their high praise. When we spoke to the server about this, she seemed confused, and appeared to be somewhat new, and ultimately did not honor that happy hour prices of our drinks that ended up showing up 30 minutes later. Furthermore, one drink that I ordered was regular price, but the price listed on the menu was incorrect, and again the server would not the lower price that was printed on the menu. I was not informed of this error until the receipt was printed. The ramen itself was fine. I've had better, I've had worse. I felt like the broth itself was overall way too salty, and lacked the depth the flavor that I was seeking in a ramen broth. The noodles were well cooked and al dente, and the toppings were a nice addition. All in all, my experience here was rather disappointing, and I really hope that there's better ramen in Richmond.

The decor was what you'd expect, with torn seats and unsteady tables, and the aromas from the seafood counter did nothing to help. Then food arrived; my bibimbap came with hot stone bowl (which cost extra) and it was needed since the food was room temperature. After much stirring, it finally warmed up a bit. The egg was fried 'over hard' - not a nice runny yolk that should ooze and coat the rice. Also there was no seasoning, fortunately a side dish of gochujang was provided. Wife had ma pa tofu which was...different - in a Korean/Chinese fusion. Not traditional, but tasted better than mine. All-in all, not worth while.

I got the Fried Chicken Banh Mi, Dan Dan Noodles, and my guest ordered the Brisket Pho, and Singapore noodles alongside a Mojito and their coconut ice cube drink (blanking on the name). I loved every bite of my food. The Daikon Radish was the highlight of the Banh Mi and I was in love with every bite. Visibly dancing and gleaming with joy while eating + the great music being played also helped. I didn't eat my sandwich until it got cold as I like to finish a dish before trying another. I started with the Dan Dan noodles and had to drink 3 of the liters of water by myself to finish my meal . I took my guest's peppers and my peppers and crushed them up into my Dan Dan plate with all the seeds that came with them. In addition I also used all the chili oil paste it came with as well. It was so damn great I enjoyed every second. My guest loved their pho and didn't stop eating it and ate half of their Singapore noodles before getting full and having to take it home. They absolutely loved their drinks and it was so fun to watch the bartender make the drinks. Two shakers in hand mixing the drinks and oh boy were they strong . We will definitely be back!!! Oh and they also had chopsticks for us to use and we ate our entire meal with them. I knew I was in for a whirlwind of flavor when the ethnicities of the cooks matched the restaurant and patrons of color from Pakistani, Black, Indian, Korean, Thai, and more were dining in . Only downsides for me personally were the Singapore noodles but it wasn't my dish. I tasted them and didn't think they were for me I usually prefer a different ratio of seasoning for my Singapore noodles. My guest whose favorite dish is Singapore noodles quite adored them. Though they did say the Singapore noodles I make at home are better they still crushed it and the next morning woke up and crushed the rest with a smile on the face . Only thing I didn't like was the pho but that's my personal taste getting in the way. I don't like fish based broths but my guest ate every single last dropped and loved it! So if that's your alley go for it!!! 10/10 will try again!!! P.S. please tip the staff graciously they work so hard. If you're going to order a $100 worth of food don't be the person not tipping or tipping $10 when the service was excellent.
