We went here for our wedding anniversary. We made a reservation days in advance. We arrived with no wait time, servers we are very friendly. They asked about any allergies or dietary needs or restrictions unprompted, we don't but thought it was nice how they asked. The strawberry blonde cocktail is dangerously delicious. I don't drink often, so if I love it, you know it's good. My husband got the duck pizza and I had the charred octopus, oysters for appetizer. The inside gives out a very NYC vibe in a good way. Finally got into this restaurant, every other time they have been packed. Went for lunch right when they opened. Totally worth the wait. I was so intrigued by the oysters. I happen to adore both oysters and beef tartare and never seen them married, it's a perfect union and they have my blessing lol, truly a great starter. Southern Boujee with no Southern roots. We had been hesitant to go here after seeing the menu but had to give it a try since it is in our home town. Made reservations to check this place out and off we went, I even dressed up in my fancy shorts and buttons on my shirt. Was kindly met and taken to our table in a room that must have been the only one in the building. They appeared to be sitting everyone in the same room so it filled up quick where the other areas were sparsely populated. Ok, so we are sitting with a number of family and friends. Given the menus and drink orders taken, the specials were not provided but we found out..We are resourceful like that. No apps sounded basic enough for my simple pallet but we are living dangerously, Deviled Eggs here we go. Those were 1 of the two items that gave this a strong 3. They were surprisingly good. From the App, I went with the Scallops that are not listed as a entree but instead as a 'Protein' you can get ala cart and then asked for sides of Carrots and smashed potatoes. Hmmmm..The Scallops were grilled too long, the carrots were just slightly cooked. However, they were 'fancy' since they were different colors. Not all that impressed. The potatoes were basically fingerlings that they slightly smashed some but not all....Again, not very impressive and dont expect a Michelin star for these...This was a weak 2. My partner and CFO chose to try the Pamlico shrimp paired with Collards and Brussel Sprouts with Pecans. Boss lady was not happy with any of this meal. Pamlico shrimp had no flavor so I guess they had to drown them in some sort of butter or oil as if they did not come from enough watery substance. The Collards were a waste to her. She could not eat them and she is a collard officianato. She pointed out that there was something in them that she could not put her tastebud on and was just off. She has tried them all over the Bern and still a local grocery store beats them all out. Sometimes you should stick with the basics. The Brussels were also a big swing and a miss. The Pecans were nice but the outside was overcooked to the point of being burnt but the insides were under-cooked to the point they were still very bitter. The last thing that gave them the 3 were the deserts. I had the Memaws Strawberry Cake, aka Strawberry Short Cake. This was very good. We coupled that one with the Pecan pie. So nice when paired with that Pineapple Coconut ice cream. This was very good.. Needless to say, this was a disappointment for us but I am sure it was due to our simple tastebuds that do not understand complicated food. Best of luck but I dont think we will be returning. Came here about 10 days before Christmas on a Saturday evening. Coming in, I didn't expect to see the place to be about 90% capacity - which I actually liked, don't get me wrong. Festive vibe with wreaths and trees. Nice booths and bar. Reserved a table 2 hours in advance - with still plenty time slots to choose from. Time slots from 7-9pm were no longer available. We had a table close to the kitchen. Waitress greeted us promptly. She was very thoughtful - even offered to take our photo since she saw me struggling to take a selfie. We ordered a pork belly starter - which was sadly not too our taste. It seemed it was kept in brine before it was cooked - was too salty and undercooked. Maybe I read the menu wrong? The Hanger Steak, creme brulee and Amaretto sour were the clear winners here. We also had one latte where we opted to share (husband wanted some but didn't want to consume too much to get palpitations) and our waitress said that it was absolutely fine and came back with mini mugs. Nice date spot in New Bern. We've eaten at the bar twice and had a good experience both times. Great cocktails and wine selection. The bartenders are helpful with recommendations and the flatbreads (pizzas) are really what we come for. Fried oysters are also tasty and the braised pork cheeks are to die for! We tried the octopus during our first visit and had to send it back because it was super fishy. It's pricy for the area but worth it a couple times a year. I wouldn't bring little kids during the dinner hours but would probably be fine for lunch. read more

Absolutely beautiful lunch experience. We are foodies who just moved to New Bern looking for some great fare, cooked by someone with heart. The Beam me up Toddy and Tropic Like It's Hot Cocktails were magnificent. Beam me up was fragrant and beautiful.. I would dare say perfume-y without being overwhelming.. the Tropic reminded me of Miami, my hometown. It was fruity and I even ate part of the garnish ( a dehydrated pineapple slice) because I LOVE dehydrated fruit. The hubs had a lamb and braised pork cheek ravioli and I had a DREAMY creamy ricotta gnudi! Both were WOW! For deserts, we went with cheesecake with a rosemary cookie crust and blueberry reduction AND a gorgeous and delicate matcha creme brûlée. My shot of espresso sealed the deal. Beautiful food. We had been by this restaurant over a dozen times and wanted to go in every time. We did today and were sorely disappointed. The atmosphere and staff were great. The food, not so much. I ordered the quiche WITH WHITE GRAVY. The gravy is just sausage gravy. So, it's not vegetarian friendly. They didn't seem fazed by the fact they called it white gravy. The quiche wasn't spongy. It just seemed like boiled eggs in a pie crust with a couple vegetables thrown on top. There was no texture or lift to it. My wife ordered one of the personal pizzas. There were so many mushrooms on it. The taste was okay, there were just too many mushrooms on it. We were expecting a fine dining experience and just paid for one without actually getting said experience. I would love to see more non-meat options. If not, just let people know you're putting processed meat in something that typically doesn't have that in it. read more

I spontaneously came out for dinner with my fiancé since we were in the area. Walking in it's very modern, dark, and romantic. I ordered the blueberry tequila cocktail it was sweet, but not overwhelming. My fiancé got a Dickel 15 year old fashion smoked. I ordered the salmon. I did change out to getting collard greens, and they were the only down fall of the plate as they did not have much flavor. The salmon and purée were very good though. My fiancé got the hanger steak, and he enjoyed his very much. I do feel like the plates have too much fluff, and maybe I would pull back on amount of sides. The proteins are cooked very well and they are the star. Our service was great. The cheese cake with chocolate ganache, espresso cream, and tart blueberry compote was a little bit of a miss. Again there's too much when the star is already good! I would remove the espresso cream, as there are too many flavors. Overall I like this place, and enjoyed the ambiance. read more

Cypress Is our new VERY favorite restaurant! The food is absolutely amazing and the service is outstanding. We were a bit apprehensive thinking for a few years that this was a just a upscale wine bar /with food. While walking by we noticed the outdoor dining tables and decided to give it a try. This was during a pretty busy time yet we were seated relatively quickly. Our server was efficient, the top of her game at all times & very personable. I had the beet appetizer (to absolutely Die for) and the salmon entree, cooked to perfection. Our entire experience was top notch. We both can not wait to get back. In New Bern there are like three places for an excellent dinner. Cypress Hall is the best of the best, but ask for Jesse.

Very very good. Nice upscale atmosphere. Prices are moderate to high but it's not cap'n ratty's. Seriously, that's the name of a place right down the street. Felt at home in jeans and a shirt but it's the kind of place you could dress up and have an anniversary or birthday dinner. The restaurant is GORGEOUS. Great decor and atmosphere. Make a reservation on their website. Easy to do and seated instantly. Good drinks, great food. They have a lot of crafty menu stuff. If you're looking for chicken fingers this isn't your place. It's all really good, everyone in my party was beyond impressed with their meals. We ended up at fifty a person with drinks and desserts. That's really not that bad in my opinion. Service was out of this world. Unobtrusive but more than attentive. They don't ask if you want more water, your glass just gets filled. Want another drink? They'll know when you're at 25% to go and make sure. Just a great place to impress a date or family or celebrate an occasion. Definitely recommend. read more

We ate here after having a few beer across the street. We ordered the pork rinds and pimento cheese as well as the pork belly appetizer. The pork rinds were seriously some of the best we've ever had - the spices and flavors were great. The pimento cheese and the pork belly were good too but didn't really stand out as far as the appetizers went. For lunch we shared the tuna pizza which was amazing! Everything about the pizza was phenomenal - the flavor, the tuna, the crust, the toppings! We will definitely go back and order the pizza and the pork rinds again but would probably try different appetizers. I wish the draft beer selection was a little more extensive but overall really good food and the atmosphere is unparalleled for New Bern! read more

I loved this restaurant/bar. Tonight I had the worst meal that I have ever had at a restaurant. I ordered duck from the seasonal menu and couldn't swallow a single piece of it because it was so gristly that I couldn't cut nor chew a single piece. Had to order something else and so far, no apology. The bartender on tonight is not an accommodating person. Steer clear of the guy with earrings and tattoos. And don't tip him. just now I get that this is New Bern. I get it. That's why I understand why there are so many good reviews on this establishment, but if you are not from here and have experience actually eating at delicious restaurants.... Don't waste your money. Let me break our meal down for you. I ordered the blueberry salad. It had fresh blueberries, chevre, candied pecans, mixed greens, sweet corn (which was not listed in the ingredients) and a blueberry balsamic dressing. The fresh blueberries were already naturally kind of tart, the goat cheese is naturally tangy, and the dressing was WAY too vinegary. So that's three elements that are tart/sour/tangy. The candied pecans weren't candied AT ALL so didn't add much to break up the sourness and the corn was just weird and didn't add anything at all other than using up an ingredient they needed to get rid of. Needless to say it was all one note (SOUR) and had no balance in flavor. If the pecans had been candied correctly and the dressing not so vinegary it would have been balanced and pleasant to eat. ALSO! It was $11, had no protein and was the size of a side salad! My husband got the pastrami duck pizza. He said the crust was tough and not flavorful at all. He also the said the pastrami was good, but that overall the pizza itself lacked flavor. It was $16 which isn't a bad price for a neapolitan style craft pizza except that it wasn't tasty. The pimento cheese dip with pork rinds wasn't bad. The dip was kind of oily because it's legit like melted cheddar cheese with pimentos in it, but it was at least worth the $10 we paid for it. Also the flourless chocolate torte was decent, though it was sickening sweet with the ice cream AND luxardo cherries. All in all we paid $50 for our meal (plus an $8 tip) for take out and was not satisfied with quality of our food. It was indeed a let down. Overpriced and not very tasty to say the least. I will admit that the inside is very posh and inviting, but if the food isn't good then what are you really going for? Maybe the drinks are better and they should just stick with that. read more

I pretty much agree with the five star reviews. That said there are a few shortcomings. I hope the owners read the three star reviews to correct some of their mishaps. In their favor is a decent wine list with a reasonable Argentine Malbec for only $20. I've eaten the fish based Fa Diavalo twice because it's so good. Both times it was slightly different but very enjoyable. They came up short on the Crème Brûlée but served a wonderful strawberry cake in its place. The bill for three was $200. Plus I added on a 20% tip. read more
