When looking for a builder for our pool, and backyard renovation we talked to a few companies but decided to go with Cypress Builders. They offered a complete back yard renovation, that added value to our side yard giving us more usable space. We met with Dan and discussed the project in April, and were ready to swim by August. There were a couple delays with supplies but that was due to our coping choice and we were happy to wait for it. Dan's team built a beautiful pool, 18in wall with water features, and lights, spa with jets and bubbles, new concrete decking, side yard putting green for the kids, new permits and gas line for our outdoor kitchen, and we LOVE it. As of 8/13/2023: Told Dan about my pool pump not working and he immediately sprung into action to fix my issue. PART 1 of 2: Dan Ho, the owner of CYPRESS BUILDERS, an affiliate with AQUA UNIQUE POOLS, met with us and designed our backyard. We wanted an outdoor living area, an oasis to call our own. We discussed how we wanted "the works" to include landscaping, swimming pool, hot tub, wading area, covered patio with a ceiling fan, a fire pit and an outside kitchen complete with a counter bar area. At our first meeting, Dan created a video simulation to give us a visual and bring our wishes into reality. The process was a long one. We wanted the job done right, not rushing the work to be completed too fast at risk of losing quality. We maintained open communication with Dan, who answered our questions and addressed our concerns. When we bring our issues up to him, he personally comes in to fix and and makes sure the job is done to our liking. So far, we are pleased.... We got 3 quotes for our pool, Dan was the most expensive one but we ended up going with him because of the good reviews I read here on Yelp and the convenience that he was a one stop shop that included landscaping done too. I've heard horror stories from local neighbors who have used other pool builders and we didn't want to have any issues with it taking over months or a year to complete or bad quality work. The pool and backyard was a big investment for us. We wanted to make sure we wouldn't regret it and that it was done right the first time and with little to no issues as no one is perfect. We got a salt water pool and spa, solar heat pump, waterfall ,a large area of concrete, artificial grass and many plants done with irrigation and drip system. Dan was nice to have his brother Kim install landscape lights for us as well. Kim installed all the pool equipment and electrical aspect of the pool. He was always so kind and a hard working guy. He always happily answered my husband's questions on how to use the equipment and app when he was here. In the beginning things moved pretty quick. Each phase took about a day, if not few days. Dan coordinate everything to happen quickly. His team worked really fast which we were amazed by. Overall we are happy with the outcome. Started excavation in February and we were able to swim by June. Not everything was perfect, but when I brought up the issues to Dan, he ended up fixing it and making me happy in the end. Still some minor things to fix such as a crack in the cement that occurred less than week after it was poured which we are still waiting on to be repaired. I understand concrete cracks over time but for the amount of money we paid, I expect it to not crack in less than a week. Dan also promised me a fence around the pool equipment as well. My wife and I had been thinking of what to do with the back/side yard of our house for the last two years. During that time we had contacted five pool builders that build pools in our area. Three of the builders we were referred by friends. I'll go over those interactions first, and then Aqua Unique/Cypress Builders. I would definitely use Dan and Aqua Unique/Cypress Builders again. Builder A: Answered my questions via phone, but wouldn't come out to look at the house or develop an estimate. He just said "...starting at around 80k." No sure if that was his actual starting price, or a way to eliminate smaller builds. I have heard from a friend who contacted them also that he requested a $1500 fee to come out and give a quote. Not sure how he is in business since everyone I know that has spoken to him has had something bad to say. Builder B: Never called back, not even to answer any questions. I actually left two messages with them about a week apart. Builder C: The owner came out, was really pleasant and spent an hour answering questions. Told us he would have a quote in a week for us. Then he never sent the quote, and didn't even returned my calls. Kind of weird. Builder D: The owner came and out answered questions we had. Got us a quote in a timely manner. The only drawback is that he seemed very set in what we as the customer needed. Now this is the first pool we have ever build, but I did lots of research and was interested in some things that he just said something like "we are going to do this because it is best for you, you'll thank me later." Seemed a little off putting, but we almost when with him. He quoted 6-8 weeks, but said realistically 4-5. Aqua Unique/Cypress Pool builders: I found on yelp, which it was the only one I found this way. So I checked for their licenses, and read some reviews. Decided to give them a try. Bobby was sent out the next day. Got a quote set up and had us come to the pool showroom to discuss. Jose and Bobby went over the quote and actually redesigned it twice while we were there to make sure we got a design we wanted. Fast forward to the dig days. Dan and Jose we both there and watched the process. Gunite, same thing. Just a warning for those who are thinking about getting a pool done. A pool is a big job, but also expect some down time. Everyone I know of who had a pool done (more than 5 people) was quoted 6-8 weeks. Most were completed in that time, but all of them had time where nothing was happening (not including the curing of gunite). When Dan or his crew was on our property they were definitely respectful and worked hard. No sitting around. The also spent time answering my endless questions. So I would say set realistic expectations and realize that the pool process can at times be frustrating, but worth it in the end. None of the pool builders had mentioned that to us. Actually our friends didn't either, at least until we brought it up. Unless you have a pool going in where they don't have to go from the front yard, expect damage to the lawn. Some friends had metal plates put down and still had damaged lawn that they fixed on their own. Dan did us a solid and replaced our lawn. Not sure if that is their standard or not, because it isn't mentioned in the contract and Jose seemed a little surprised. Regardless, it shows that Dan went above what he needed to. He has also done a few other things that I am sure most people would ask for more money to do. There are still a few things left to finish, but the actual pool is done and filled. When confronted with the decision to move into a bigger house or make the current house you live in your ideal forever home? We were confronted with that exact dilemma. PENDING pool light being fixed (its new, so should work fine)!!!! Jose and team - excellent work! We hired him to do a ton of things in my backyard: replaster the pool, retile, extend existing pool deck and pour new concrete, raise the floor from 10' to 6' at the deepest end, add a Baba shelf, add steps to one side, add a soothing waterfall feature, move pool equipment, and basically make my backyard awesome. We decided to put a pool in our back yard back in August 2020, after reviewing several quotes we decided to go with Aqua unique/ Cypress Builders. They obtained the permit for our pool very quickly, by October, but unfortunately we were still waiting on the bank for the equity loan to kick in. Dan had assured us that our front and backyard new landscape would take 6 weeks. It took several months. So I would make sure to get a completion by date added to your contract which we did not. Lesson learned. Now with that being said what Dan has in his favor is he has talented people working for him that do much of the work and they do an excellent job. We did hire a designer that gave us the vision we wanted and more. Dan and his team then came in and completed the vision. We wanted to have minimum landscape and go drought free as possible so a lot of hardscape. We have beautiful pavers and a wonderful fire pit in the backyard and in the front yard they made the walkway up to the door with no steps which we wanted with a wonderful courtyard. My husband and I are so excited for summer now that we have a gorgeous pool in our backyard thanks to Dan and Luis. We signed our contract in August and at that time I let them know that there was no rush to get this done since we were headed into winter and that I would rather have it done right rather than quick. It was hard to be patient because we couldn't wait to see the final outcome but I'm so glad we let them take their time. I'm a firm believer in being patient. You have to give them time to get the best people out when they're available and not to rush such a huge job if you want the best results. We left our backyard open and available to them to go in any time so they were able to work at their convenience without having to notify us. Our next door neighbors allowed the crew to use their driveway to access the backyard. Everyone that came over to work respected both properties, never left a mess and were very nice. Before any of the major parts of the project were started (concrete, coping, tile, plaster) Dan and Luis always checked and double checked that the colors/items I had originally selected were exactly what I wanted. When there was some confusion (very minimal) my husband or I would quickly notify them and they corrected it immediately.
