My mom and I had contacted James originally to quote for a large pond removal as all of our fishes had passed away. He was very responsive and provided a quote quickly. He came out for the free estimate. He was on time and professional. We decided to not move forward with the pond and asked for a quote for the existing removal and re-pavement of our uneven cement area. We went back and forth quite a bit in regards to details. He was very accommodating and squeezed us into his tight schedule. In the end, we did not move forward with James, NOT because of his work quality or ethic, but because we as a customer were extremely difficult to work with. We were too indecisive on many personal factors. James was professional from start to finish. He was responsive and accommodating. I called Kiser Landscape on a Saturday and expected to leave a message, but James answered the phone and we set up an appointment. James and Ken came out to see my backyard. They are both very friendly guys and listened to what I wanted done. Just a simple and clean looking flower bed with spaced out shrubs that provide color all year long by using varying type of flowers that bloom different times of the year. I didnt want anything messy that drops leaves or flowers near the pool. They told me to use rock instead of bark so I wont have bark in my pool on windy days. Plus, now I think i like the rock better when i see it installed. Good suggestion! A drip system was installed for the plants. Started looking for landscaping work a few weeks ago, and James was the first one to respond and meet face-to-face. Our scope was a total backyard overhaul and fresh landscape since our backyard was just weeds, unnecessary trees, and dirt - covering about 1500 sq ft. At first we weren't sure we could get the project done as our "landscape dream" would put us over-budget, but James came up with a solution that allowed us to get within budget and still achieve a much needed yard overhaul. Additionally, James had great ideas and solutions for different parts of the yard, which really helped improve the goal we had in mind for the yard. It was also helpful for us since we were unsure on how we wanted certain parts of the yard done, so it was great getting some input and weighted pros/cons of different ideas. We had an unfinished area in one end of our yard after we had our pool installed. We called a couple of contractors for bids. One came in low and we went with him. BIG MISTAKE and lesson learned. Not only was the other contractor a no show when promised, when he finally did show up, he installed sprinklers barely below the surface and put two posts in less than 6" deep! We called James Kizer back and asked him if he would be willing to fix the mess. Not only did he respond immediately, he went to work on it the next morning. In a day and a half the project was complete and we are thrilled with the result! James and his team do exceptional work and he will always be first on our list for future projects. I had an excellent experience with Kiser Landscaping. They completed work two weeks ago on a landscape and cement project for my house. The look of the house is night and day better than before. It really looks like a new house. I keep getting complements from neighbors and without exaggeration I heard one gasp as they were walking by and first noticed the change. James is straight forward with an artistic eye you quickly discover when talking to him. He drew out designs on the yard to better visualize how it would all look. He listens to what your vision is but will let you know if an idea might have problems. I am not a landscaper and had shown some things I had seen in Sunset magazine. James quickly pointed out how though the features looked good in pictures would not last or in the case of the one retaining wall with a flower bed on top, would have vastly increased the budget. James was able to turn my wife's vague asks for something the hummingbirds would like to beautiful flower beds that are now filled with hummingbirds and butterflies. The cement team built out a patio in the front, expanded the patio in the back and made a new driveway. The stamped cement just looks amazing. They are hard working and fair warning come early, so if you need a later time frame let them know. Pros: Artistic cohesive look Able to convert a vague vision to beautiful finished product. My wife and I have lived in our house for approximately 1 year. We have put off working on our backyard. Unfortunately, pretty much all of the backyards in our neighborhood lack any drainage. What can I say that hasn't already been said? For starters, James was responsive to our request for a quote and was onsite the same day with a plan on how to make our front yard look amazing. He was very friendly, professional and the pricing was very reasonable. He was responsive to what we wanted done, and also made many suggestions based on his expertise. We hired him several days later, and his crew was onsite the day after we hired him, and worked very quickly to remove a tree and tear up the area that we were working on, as well as laying a new concrete siding. James also called out to another company who specializes in tree trimming and stump grinding to help clean up an older tree that was out of control and help get rid of tree trunks to complete the job. This took all of the guess work out of hiring a tree service and helped them successfully complete the job. When they returned, they finished the entire job in one day, and we couldn't have been happier with the choices of trees, bushes and rock coloring, as well as layout. James was also onsite and it was very important to him that we were happy with the completed job. Shortly after completing the job, we had some issues with the sprinklers and drip line due to a botched DIY job the previous owner had done. James came back not once, but twice to solve the issue and make sure that we were happy with the work done. And not only that, he came out the same day I reached out to him to help troubleshoot the issues. And to top it off, he didn't charge us to fix the drip line and was insistent that he wanted to make sure everything was done right. So in short, if you want a beautiful yard, hard workers that do it right the first time, and someone who cares about the quality of his work, then hire Kiser Landscape Maintenance. We requested a quote via Yelp to get landscaping service to prepare our home for selling. Within hours of our quote request, James contacted us by phone to set up an appointment. The next morning he came by to check out the work we needed done. These guys go above and beyond.   We had a bamboo invasion in our backyard, coming under the fence from a neighbor's yard.  When we hired James Kiser and company to pour a concrete pad out front, James had a great idea to help with the bamboo invasion out back as well - they dug a 2-foot-deep trench a long the shared property line and filled it with cement. New metal fence posts were imbedded in the cement and a new wood fence installed.  It looks great and keeps out the bamboo!  James, Kenny and company are good people too.  For example, when our sweet pup got out one day while they were working, James jumped in his own truck to drive around helping us look for him.  It was James that found him.  We are so appreciative and feel lucky to have hired James Kiser.   We will do so again, no question.  Kudos.  Thanks so much James!! read more

Since my last review (9/2016), I've used James and crew three times (all good). This one was mostly for tree removal--one big one in the front and a smaller one in the back. Wow. Rather than grind the stump, we talked about trimming it flush, drilling holes and inserting poison. When James showed up for the work, I told him my wife and I had decided to have the stump ground. He said he'd have to get a separate guy to do it and it would cost another $100-150. I said that was okay. Not wanting to wait (and because I was a regular), he and his crew literally *dug out* the stump, over a foot deep! (It was huge--a good 18" around.) And NO extra charge. (I tipped him generously because it wasn't part of the original quote.) That is a man of integrity who treats customers well! He also did some tree/bush trimming and yard cleanup and did his usual bang-up job. I hope he stays in business as long as we stay in Modesto! Highly recommended. read more

November 19th, 2020 It is with great reluctance that I write this review during these difficult times. I must though, share our dissatisfaction with this company that I have given James numerous opportunities to rectify. We paid Kiser Landscaping a substantial amount of money to basically re-landscape our back yard. Included in our project was 520 square feet of new concrete, a new crushed granite area, new sod, new sprinkler system with drainage and a new main water line. The following is a partial list of the corners that were cut and the shortcomings of Kiser's project completion: 1. We were promised 2 to 3 inches of decomposed granite that could be compacted into a simi solid surface but much of the area has less than one inch of material. 2. Concrete was to be colored and stamped but James forgot to tell his sub and we ended up with a surface only color which is not the one we requested. 3. The tan bark that was placed in the planting areas was very sparse and insufficient to cover the drip lines. 4. Inadequate surface preparation for sod has resulted in the return of a largely Bermuda grass lawn after only 9 months. 5. Materials used to connect the water main and hose bibs were cheap and have become an eyesore. I had hoped to avoid writing this negative review, but Kiser Landscaping's lack of response has left me no choice. In conclusion the current state of our backyard barely resembles the project that was sold to us. Anyone that hires this company should get everything in writing. read more

We called James Kiser of Kiser Landscaping to get a quote for work on our backyard, including: Two concrete pads A concrete walkway along the side of our house A mowstrip along the back of the yard (about 65 feet) Levelling the yard, installing sprinklers, and laying sod James came out to the house within two days to talk to us about what we needed done.
