I've had cydwoq shoes for years. When I bought pairs in the early 2000 I can say I still have them and wear them. However, the three pairs purchased since 2015 have all fallen apart; top separates from soles and even the rubber on the bottom of one sole just slide off (only wore the pair about 12 times). The shoes don't hold together as the top leather is cheaply glued to the sole. Lastly, emailing the company and explaining the situation gets NO RESPONSE. Absolutely terrible customer service that yanks you around pretending they'll actually help you. I have several pairs of Cydwoq shoes in size 38, so when I went to have a custom pair of Parthenon clogs made, I naturally chose size 38. To my dismay, however, the footbed of the Parthenon clogs fits an entire size smaller than normal, and my toes literally hang over the edge of the shoe; I refuse to wear them like this. I asked if I could exchange them for a larger footbed or even just get some Cydwoq credit in return, but they've decided to ignore me after requesting photos of my feet in the footbed, which I provided, and then telling me that I wasn't wearing them correctly. I ONLY KNOW ONE WAY TO PUT MY FOOT IN A SHOE, AND I'VE SUCCESSFULLY DONE THAT WITH LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE OTHER PAIR OF SHOES I'VE EVER OWNED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I bought three pairs from an estate sale- two were slightly worn and one was brand new. When I commented on the brand new pair, the seller said they didn't quite work for her foot. I quickly found that this pair didn't work for my foot either. I actually emailed CYDWOQ in 2022 to see if I could swap them out since they were brand new. Understandably, I could not. However, I was quite pleased with the two other pairs. So I saved up money to buy a brand new pair, and they had the same issue. The right slides to the right, the leather buckles. The owner was difficult but finally agreed to correct them, saying I have a narrow foot. I paid another $15 to send them back and $15 to have them shipped back to me. They are worse than before I sent them. When I reached back out they told me I have a difficult foot! I have NEVER had any problems with any other shoe brands, and I already explained that the only other pair of shoes that I have ever had an issue with was with CYDWOQ. And the other two pairs of CYDWOQs I have do not have this issue. If my foot is difficult, then why did those fit perfectly? Their lack of logic and acceptance of a simple error in design is perplexing. What is more likely...I have a difficult foot or there was a simple error when assembling a shoe that is made to order? I am a huge fan of Cydwlq shoes. I have had one pair for 16 years. They are like a second skin. I have their boots, shoes and sandals, all from the vintage line. Reading other reviews I want to comment that you just have to change the rubber cover on the bottom when it wears out. There is an option when ordering to add a rubber bottom and you should do this option. I have taken mine to a cobbler and switched as needed for 16 years! It is a real product with a leather sole so it does require a tiny bit of care. They will custom do the width, which is so important for me as I have a aaa foot. The flat shoes are like barefoot walkers and helped strengthen my feet and helped me overcome knee soreness. Some of the shoes do require a break in period, but it is worth every step. Just be prepared to wear around the house and for short outings if needed. Some shoes have not required this. Also, getting your width size correct can take some finagling and sending shoes back if u custom order. For me it is worth it. They are beautiful, and versatile and go with so many outfits. I have been a customer for years and have many pairs of their beautifully designed and executed shoes. I was surprised to see negative reviews. I always use them to repair my shoes figuring since they made them, they should fix them. I'm always happy with the results. I live near the factory so granted, I have not had to deal with shipping charges plus I can go in and try the samples in the back. The samples are in all sizes and I've been lucky to snag some at a considerable saving. Like a lot of small niche businesses they are having staffing problems and I'm guessing access to materials due to COVID and it's aftermath. A little understanding should be in order. The Cydwoq product isn't for everyone, but it is for people who value made-to-order-handmade and unusual shoes. This is a wonderful place for people who care about such things. read more

I hadn't heard of CYDWOQ shoes until I saw a beautiful pair after hours in a window in Soho, NY. I desperately searched for the shoes online and just my luck... they were made in good ol' Los Angeles! Well, Burbank to be exact. CYDWOQ shoes have an old cobblers look to them but they are very modern in their styling. The owner's vision was to make dress shoes that would be extremely comfortable for walking. I was skeptical until I tried on various pairs, immediately feeling the difference in cut and comfort. Now they aren't as soft as Camper's full rubber soles, but CYDWOQ's shoes are leather bottoms or leather bottoms with a layer of rubber soling over the leather. I can tell they take special pride in crafting the arch in a way that will allow you to stand and walk hours in these shoes without pain (no I didn't try the women's heels, sorry). There are a limited number of women's boutiques that carry CYDWOQ's, but there are no retailers in Southern California that carry any of the men's lines, which is why I went to the factory. There is a gorgeous store on the factory premises where you can try on any model, then custom order it in your size (they do not have most models already made in your size). These shoes are 100% made in America. You can look out the window of the store and see people stitching, cutting leather, making soles, fitting insoles. They are not the cheapest shoes, but they have a definite cool factor to them (you'll have extremely comfortable shoes that none of your friends will have). I don't know how to describe them... rock star, meets old european cobbler, meets cowboy. Some have laces, some have a unique buttoning system, others are strappy, and a few have velcro. I ordered myself a pair of the "Watch" models. ***Hint #1*** Store hours are the same as their factory hours, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. If there's no parking, park in the factory parking lot behind the building. When I went the store door was locked. I went to the open factory door in the back and asked one of the workers if the store portion was open. She went and alerted the manager/owner to let me into their shoe playground/store and they let me try on anything and everything. ***Hint #2*** I noticed most of the men's samples sizes were 43.5 euro (size 10), but there's a back room sale section that has some ready made shoes at 50% off and there you can try your exact size. If you custom order your shoes, shipping is $10 and the shoes arrive in about a week (or you could pick them up if you live nearby). ---Follow up--- it took just over two weeks for freshly made shoes to arrive and they fit perfectly, are comfortable and look heavenly! read more

These were supposed to be a long lasting investment at $370. The shoe looked and feet great--at first. 6 months later, the heel comes off. You ask them to fix it, they won't, can't or simply ignore you. So you find a shoe repair guy. Now the most expensive shoes you've ever bought just cost $60 more. Then the other rubber parts of the soles start wearing, so you get those replaced. But the shoe guy felt it was more correct to rebuild the entire thing flat. So the moulded foot shape is gone. He noticed a hole so he repaired that part. Said the leather was in bad condition. +$120 in repairs. Now the leather itself is cracking everywhere creating multiple holes throughout the uppers of both shoes. Treating it with special creams ($10) seemed to do nothing. Now I spent another $30 for my own leather repair kit. I can't wear the shoes until it arrives as it will make the cracks widen further. So extremely frustrating for a product like this. Their website just says they are not accepting repairs and will post in a few weeks. I am guessing that's been there for years and will continue to be. If they had authorized repair people in my city and hired more support staff to give me a sense of what to do in their online content, that would have helped. Instead I feel ripped off. I really enjoy their unique and wacky shoes, which I buy on sale at deep discounts in their back room. They aren't the friendliest when you actually go there, but they are the coolest shoes. I have several pairs. I don't love all of their shoes equally - the ones I like a have a wide toe box, and not all of them do. I sort of enjoy that you can see them actually making the shoes in the warehouse if you actually visit in person. Anyone complaining about these being "the most expensive shoes I've ever bought" is a total whiner. I've definitely bought more expensive shoes and handbags, usually when I'm manic from SSRIs (I'm fine so long as I don't take anything). Sometimes you have to pay for normal wear and tear on your shoes. And if you don't want to spend that money, then learn how to use shoe glue and do it yourself (I've definitely done that on other shoes. Let's get a few details out of the way. These shoes are not cheap. They are real leather and you can see the people in the back making them (truly made in the USA). Expect to pay at least $300+ for a custom pair ($150+ for the 50% off samples). This place is NOT a shoe store. Period. It is the factory and design warehouse for the brand w/ a show room attached. Can you buy new shoes? Yes. Can you try on a shoe in your size? Only if you happen to find it in the 50% off room in the back (and there is a good chance you might), or if you wear size 37 (all women's samples on the show room floor are this size). You will not find a sales associate running to and fro grabbing sizes for you. If that's what you want you should probably find a shoe store or an Anthropologie that carries this brand. What you will find is what looks like a busy, nice enough account manager doing purchase orders for retailers. He/ she will help you if you ask specific questions and tender you out when you're ready to pay, but that's it. That being said, this place was a dream for me! So many beautiful, unique and quality shoes and no pushy sales ppl bothering me. Yas! Again, all the women shoes in the showroom are size 37, but keep walking to the back, through that door, and there's a room of 50% off and many of the shoes are the same ones on the showroom floor (just a different color). So, if you're unsure of your size, just go to the back and try some on. If nothing is grabbing you in the 50% off room, know that you can get anything in the showroom, custom made and custom fit in any available color. The whole process takes about 2 weeks. One thing I noticed while trying on shoes in the back; even though the sizes are European, some styles of shoes tend to run a smidge larger than true European sizes (perhaps because leather stretches?). In any case, if you are in the LA area definitely worth dropping by. You will find at least 2 pairs you love. read more

I hope this review is helpful more than anything. I'm giving CYDWOQ a three because they are both the best and the worst brand at the same time- let me explain. They actually inspired me to learn how to fix and even make my own shoes. I love the way they look so much. They just are way too expensive for the amount of time they last. It seems from the reviews that this is a shared experience. I have many many pairs and the soles are always the same/ with normal wear they last only 4 months on average. Then I call again and send an email to their repair person. The original lady - the manager called back and said because I was a degasser - which I did for 2 months and did not get the shoes exposed to the elements - they think it's ok to say yeah the lifespan of a 500 dollar pair of shoes is reasonably 8 months. I changed the stars because Ashley did everything she could to help me and apologized for what happened. Thankfully, they're not charging me the restocking fee. I had an online order, and the customer service was some of the worst I've received. I always wear a 8.5, but the shoes they sent were about a 9. The shoes slid off my heels when I walked. I was emailed these instructions - "Please have your feet measured at a shoe store and email your measured US size." Um, I know what size I wear - 8.5, which is why I ordered an 8.5 in the first place. But, I had them measured. Then I was sent this email - "ROAD 38.5 should fit 3US 8.5 wide fit." Really? Because I have an 8.5 wide foot, and they don't fit me. Through the whole process, I felt like Rafi Balouzian, the person helping me, thought I was lying. All I needed was someone to say, "Sorry those don't fit, what can we do to make them work for you?" Let me begin by saying that CYDWOQ (pronounced sidewalk) shoes are gorgeous and unique, and I adore the boots I ordered back in September of 2011. For the quality and style = 5 stars, but for customer service = 1 star, therefore I have given the co. an overall score of 3 stars. Here's why: 1. Satisfaction: When you buy directly from the company's website, you cannot return or exchange the product. Period. If, however, there is a problem with the fit of the shoe, the company does have a satisfaction policy as follows: "We guarantee the size of the shoe, and adjustments will be made FREE OF CHARGE to the style ordered if the customer is not fully satisfied with the fit. We want your experience with our shoes to be perfect, so just let us know if the fit is not right." My shoes were too tight around the ankles, so I completed the appropriate form and my request was accepted. The first time around, I stopped by the factory in Burbank when I was in LA for the weekend. I waited for about 30 minutes and some adjustments were made then and there! Unfortunately, the problem persisted, so I made another request and had to ship the shoes back to Burbank. --Now let me make a side note that the boots had cost me $360 ($322, plus $10 shipping and $28 tax). It cost me another $15 to ship and insure the shoes, so now I'm up to $375. I don't normally spend this much money on shoes, but I really believe in supporting American manufacturing, so I bit the bullet and went with CYDWOQ.-- When the shoes finally came back to me, the solution still did not work for me, so I had to ship them back yet again, bringing my total up to $385 (went with a cheaper shipping method 2nd time around). The shoes arrived today and they are lovely with adjustments that make me feel like I have a pair of custom-made shoes. Customer finally satisfied! BUT... 2. Communication I know that handmade shoes take time to create. I do not mind that I am finally able to wear my shoes 4 months after purchasing them. What I don't appreciate is the lack of communication from the company. A simple acknowledgement of receipt each time I sent back the shoes would have been appropriate. Perhaps a call to discuss new possible solutions would have saved some time and money. A little "thanks for your patience" would have been a nice gesture. 3. Attitude Any time I did call, visit or send an e-mail, I got the impression that the company did not value my business. I have never experienced such an unprofessional service. I ordered a pair of shoes for $392 and a couple of weeks later I received the order with a total different leather than the one advertised! When I contacted them, they recognized the problem and said leather colour would change with time (!) but they did not have the original leather of my order to begin with. Why would a company not contact a customer about such an important detail as the leather! If you don't have the leather, you don't send other kind, and expect the customer be happy about it. I was really excited to buy a pair of Cydwoq sandals -- an old roommate of mine had a pair which she loved and I often borrowed, but it took a long time for me to decide to save and spend this much money on a pair of shoes. They were beautiful and comfortable and I wore them in after only a few hours. Six weeks later (and I wore the sandals maybe 4 weeks out of the six) the sole of the right sandal had worn clean through. As in, there was a hole in the shoe and the metal interior was peeking out further down the sole. I emailed photos and an explanation to the contact provided on the Cydwoq website and never heard back. When I finally called them to follow up, I was met with an assumptive explanation of how I walked wrong (I don't, I've been walking quite well since seeing a podiatrist at a young age), and that as the leather is an organic material, it is not immune to wear. I explained that I walk with straight feet, don't shuffle or rotate my feet, that I had sought out a pair of Cydwoqs because of their reputation for comfort and quality, and that perhaps this one pair was defective because I never wore out the ones I had borrowed from my roommate. All I got was unapologetic finger pointing over the phone, constant interruption and talking over me while not letting me get a word in, and an oh-so-generous offer to put rubber soles (not even replace the leather ones) onto my sandals. Frankly, it's easier for me to have it done at a shoe-repair where I don't have to spend money on mailing them off, and I don't trust Cydwoq to do a good job of anything considering this sandal couldn't last a month. I kept being told that "mileage" counts for more than time, but how much walking could I have done in 4 weeks that could possible wear a hole through the sole? I didn't run in them, I walked in the city with them during the day -- from door to subway to door etc. This review has one star not only because of how utterly disappointed and terrible I feel at having shelled out so much money for a shoe that was wrecked from so little wear, but also for the lack of customer service that I was met with. Like I said, my email was ignored and my follow-up was met with a rude, almost childish "it's not my fault it's all yours" attitude. A company that demands this much for its product should not only provide a quality shoe, but service that respects the customer's investment. Shoes are beautiful and comfortable. Unfortunately, the company do not honor their timeframe for shoes completion/shipment. Plus, their customer service is extremely poor. I ordered a pair of shoes and I sent an email to their customer service and never received a reply. I paid for my shoes through a third party that will help you recoup funds if you have not received you products. I issued a claim then I got a reply from the company. However, I received an email saying my shoes would ship and they did not. I had to contact the person who sent me the email that made an empty promise about shipment and told her if I do not receive my shores within 5 days I would request a full refund. Placed order for a pair of ready to ship factory stock. 1. Order never shipped and called to find that shoes were sold to another customer, no one ever contacted me. 2. The manager wanted to ship the same style, but in a different color and different size! 3. She eventually agreed to ship the shoes I ordered. After waiting 3 weeks I called and was told my order would ship the next day, but it didn't. 4. After waiting 2 more days I called and was told my order would ship the next day. What kind of customer service is this?! Save yourself the headache and buy the shoes in a retail shop. Had been a long-time fan and promoter of this brand until the unreinforced eyelet of my right boot ripped out completely. Didn't have this problem on the left boot and it is clear that the leather on the failed boot is of inferior quality compared to it's mate. Ellen of Cydwoq has told me they won't fix it, unless I want to pay to have the entire boot rebuilt and it was implied that it would be prohibitively expensive and wouldn't be worth it. Quite disappointing for a pair an almost $400 pair of well cared for boots that I thought would last somewhat longer. This is not the first time I have had problems with Cydwoq quality and workmanship, but the first time that a defect rendered the shoe unwearable. A pattern of manufacturer defects and unwillingness to stand behind their product is an unflattering reflection on this company. Good design needs to be backed up with good execution. This is a review for the shoes and their repair services, not the Burbank store. I got tired of buying nice shoes with soles that could not be replaced. After searching for shoes that could be repaired easily I found Cydwoq in a small store in Healdsburg. They closed the sale with me by saying, "when you need them resold, just contact Cydwoq online and they will do it for about $50 depending on the issue". Fast forward 18 months, I wore down one of the heals (my walk wears down heals unevenly). I called the company, shipped in my shoes with a check for the repair and received back my shoes looking perfect this week. The communication with the company was no-nonsense and straight forward (thanks Rafi). I love the design of the shoes and the leather is really holding up; but, It was their repair services that made me comfortable to buy another pair of their shoes. So I now own two pairs and I really like how they feel and look, AND I know the company builds shoes in the USA and stands by their work. Thanks Cydwoq. read more

I think the shoes are beautiful. I've had my pair for about 5 or so years, and I needed the sole fixed. They said they could repair them, and it wouldn't take long if they just stitched a new sole on, or sew them and glue them and that it would take a couple of days. I asked "What do you think I should actually do?" I was told "You're probably better off getting them stitched and glued." I was told that they would be shipped to me, so that I didn't have to return for a pick-up. I paid up front, and gave the address to ship to in California. I get a call a week later, confirming my address. I was told that they were ready and that I would get them to my door the following day through FedEx. -Here's the problem. They didn't leave me a tracking number. I tried calling Cydwoq back. Guess what? The outgoing message says "We're on vacation until April 3.... You can send an email to info@cydwoq.com" Well, I sent an email. Nothing. No response. It's been 3 days already. I called FedEx to see if they can reverse trace using my address. Nope. Nothing. **** update*** turns out FedEx left me a door tag...on a different door, and it was face-down on a staircase. lol. And they had attempted twice. :-/ The customer service representative also said "The address is a secondary search method, so it doesn't always show up." -Yaay. Cydwoq shoes are not inexpensive but they last seemingly forever and only grow in comfort over the years. I bought my first pair of Cydwoq sandals in 2010 and wore them walking many miles across the Middle East. They molded to my foot and remained comfortable even in the extreme heat.
