Worst. Pharmacy. Ever. I've tried having prescriptions sent here from my doctor twice and both times they claim they never received the request when I went to pick it up. This is after a minimum of 6 hours from my doctor sending the request. Saw my doctor in the morning and stopped by the pharmacy on my way home from work. I ended up leaving both times (what else to do when they claim they have no request?) only to get a call from them over 24 hours later telling me my prescription is ready. Even my doctor said "Really? They're not so good." when I asked that he send my prescription there. It's the closest pharmacy to where I live but I gave up and will never use them again. I know they're supposed to call/text you when your prescription is ready but the wait to have it filled is ridiculous. It was a hell of a lot faster when you used to just hand them a piece of paper and read a magazine until it was filled. read more

DO NOT take your PASSPORT photo with the guy here. Tried to take my passport photo here and had the worst customer service experience. The photo guy was RUDE and Impatient - he couldn't download the photo onto a CD and couldn't explain things as I asked questions, so he was swearing the whole time. He ended up taking a BLURRY picture and CUT the photo TOO SMALL. UPDATE: even the pic they retook did NOT MEET STANDARDS. I ended up retaking it at the embassy. read more

I don't normally write reviews, but I had to counter some of the negative reviews of this CVS. I work near this CVS and go there very frequently, both to fill prescriptions and to shop. I have never had a bad experience. Contrary to what people have said, I actually find the staff very friendly and helpful, the self-checkout lanes convenient, and the overall atmosphere much nicer than the other CVS I frequent, in Columbia Heights. Although their customer service at the check out counters has improved quite a bit, especially attitude-wise, the men who work there seem to be angry, impatient, intentionally unhelpful and/or apathetic. Every time I communicate with one of them, I get the sense that there may be some psychological emasculation issues going on. The pharmacy folks are okay but seem very cold and reserved. This CVS is amazing. It is a well-stocked store with a convenient location. The pharmacy is great. Today I filled a complex prescription from out of town. My doctor from Wisconsin didn't include some information needed for this controlled-substance medication. The pharmacist did some research and found the information. She was polite, efficient, professional, and very patient. Kudos to the pharmacist and the tech. Both were great to work with and are very customer service oriented. read more

While waiting in line to pick up a prescription, I took out my Droid to check my email. The pharmacist on duty raced to the front, informed me rudely that taking pictures is prohibited, then demanded that I turn my camera over to her for inspection. After I informed her that I was not using the camera, she kept insisting that I give her my phone until the store manager took control of the situation and apologized for her emotional conduct. Service at this CVS has always been hit or miss, but this recent event was really bizarre. I am taking my business elsewhere. read more

SUCKS ! The cashiers are lazy morons. Prices at the register routinely do not match the price on the shelf, at which point the cashier has no clue what to do. Good luck finding a manager to help you because he/she is already helping the other 20 people who have experienced a problem with their experience or purchase. Weirdly, I have fond associations with this particular CVS because while on work travel, I've had to go there for random odds and ends that are often hard to find in a different city. Good dental floss, for example, or grapefruit juice or a large jar of peanuts that could save you from having to eat crappy food someplace else. It's big, and it has a wide-ass selection of things -- importantly, in my case, including generic Airborne, which I had to chug during my D.C. stay like there was no tomorrow. read more

I cannot believe the incompetence of the pharmacy staff. It's truly incomprehensible that a 24/7 pharmacy in downtown DC can operate like this. The staff are inexperienced and rude, and they don't have basic pharmaceutical knowledge necessary for this role. They also seem to always be understaffed with lines and wait times exceeding 1 hour. I mostly get my prescriptions though mail order but sometimes I urgently need items and this place makes the experience absolutely miserable. Rude and unprofessional pharmacist. (Adenike). Called at 1am on the way back from the ER to see if it would be doable to easily get a prescription filled for a controlled pain medication. She would not provide an answer, and essentially stated, "I don't know, can you?". Had no option at this late hour to get the medication filled. She was rude, not nice and cranky throughout the whole filling and check out process. I'm sure the employees are disgruntled sincere they work for the 'Wal Mart' of pharmacy chains. If I didn't have CareMark, I would never step into a CVS. read more

I recently moved to the neighborhood and had been filling my prescription at another CVS pharmacy in DC without any issues. My first experience at this location was horrendous. I attempted to drop off a prescription three weeks ago and was informed they were out of stock. I told the pharmacist I would be traveling and asked if I'd have any problems dropping the prescription off when I came back. The pharmacist said there would be no issues as long as I came back in under a month. Following those instructions, I went back tonight and was told (1) they were still out of the medication and (2) would not be refilling until after my prescription expired, so they couldn't help me. I had a second prescription with me for something else and was told that due to the way it was written it couldn't be filled either. I tried to explain to the pharmacist on duty (who, for some reason, was working alone at a time that seemed to be really busy) that due to my medical diagnosis my medication actually isn't optional and that I'd never had an issue filling it at a cvs before. The pharmacist rolled her eyes at me and asked me "are you trying to tell me how to do my job?" She then went on to tell me the issue was a federal regulation and her hands were tied. At this point some man a few spots in line behind me cut the entire line and tossed his prescriptions down. He started yelling at me for asking too many questions. I honestly had no idea what to do and the pharmacist was at a loss. In the midst of all this I was trying to explain to the pharmacist that there was no federal regulation about my meds and that I'm 100% aware for my particular prescription pharmacists have an incredible amount of leniency with what they'll accept (due to poorly worded DC guidelines, NOT federal law); the situation ultimately was that the pharmacist did not want to fill a valid prescription. Going back to my first prescription, I couldn't get that one either because apparently no one there thought to order the meds knowing I'd be coming back? The pharmacist I just met with also scoffed when I explained the first pharmacist said I could come back after traveling. Her only response to me was "well they shouldn't have said that." So, now I'm rescheduling a train to my parents house for the holidays so I can spend money on a useless doctors appt tomorrow to get a prescription that I already have, all because of the disorganization, lack of care and frankly, disrespect at this pharmacy. And if I didn't want to have to make a doctors appointment? The pharmacist said I could "probably" go to Maryland or Virginia. I've never met a pharmacist whose advice was to drive (somehow, as I don't have a car) to two different states instead of simply accepting a valid prescription or ordering my medication. It's a terrible feeling to have to advocate for yourself to get medication you need to function in the world; if anyone who works at this location actually cares about the people they serve, they should be ashamed of this. read more

I'm a faithful multi-decade customer of theirs and will definitely be taking my business elsewhere after dealing with the staff in their pharmacy---rude, unprofessional, and flat-out uninterested in doing their job. When I mentioned I was unhappy with the customer service, one pharmacy staffer argued with me over the phone about whether or not she had been rude. Very disorganized group of people. I called twice and was told yes they have my medication, no they don't have my medication. I went to the pharmacy and they said no we don't have that, then the pharmacist said yes we do. This was noon time and she said come back and pick up your prescription of 20 pills at 5 o'clock. I came back at six and had to wait 45 minutes. I was not alone in my frustration. Others were shaking their head in disbelief. Horrible customer service, especially from the manager Dominic. I was a frequent shopper at this cvs because of the close proximity to my job, until today! I will not return to this location. I tried to return a beauty product with receipt and was denied a refund. After showing the team member and manager Dominic the policy online he very rudely denied my refund and began questing me on why I was returning the item in a very unpleasant tone. Horrible pharmacy. Lazy, unprofessional, inefficient staff. Long lines for a drop-off and pick-up. Employees barely move around and act like they are half-asleep. The worst part is that they don't even know their jobs. They told me my prescription wasn't covered by the insurance. They made me call the doctor's office for a pre-authorization. They made me wait three days to inform me that the insurance would not cover it. Luckily, I went to Tschiffely Pharmacy on 19th street and received my medication within 15 minutes. Somehow, this time the insurance miraculously covered the medication and the total time I spent on getting the medication from the moment I entered the Tschiffely Pharmacy was 15 minutes versus a total of three visits and one hour wasted at CVS and no medication. Awful work ethics exhibited by the pharmacy staff. Will never return to this CVS. read more

Understaffed. I've tried calling several times now, and have been put on hold for over 20 minutes each time.

This is a review of the pharmacy - I've already reviewed the store! My doctor's office messed up a prescription and I wound up paying $150 for the wrong medication. I returned to CVS in a panic after realizing what I'd done. Casey, the pharmacist there, was so kind to me and calmed me down. She told me should would call my doctor's office and correct the situation. She later called me back on the 4th of July saying the issue had been corrected and I would be able to pick up the right prescription (which was only $25) AND be refunded the difference. When I later picked it up, I was so relieved that I actually left a personal item at the pharmacy. Kyara, another pharmacist, had hung onto it when I returned later that same day. Casey and Kyara and all of the other pharmacists here are excellent and showed me such kindness in TWO difficult situations (essentially of my own making). CVS is lucky to have them!!! read more

No matter the time of day or night, you can always waste your time standing in line at this nightmare of a store. This store testifies to the evils of monopoly, which CVS virtually enjoys throughout metropolitan Washington. I have lost years of my life waiting for employees to end personal calls and discussions, and the addition of self-service checkout is no boon, as this breaks down for every other customer, or so it seems. read more

The people working at the pharmacy, including the pharmacists, are almost always curt and uninterested in customers' questions and the like. It's the worst CVS pharmacy of all the ones I go to, and that includes my having twice had to return there because I was given a wrong or under filled prescription. As for the rest of the store: it's somewhat of a wreck, disordered and somewhat chaotic, except for the refrigerator cases with drinks and some foodstuffs, which are clean and well-maintained. The staff in the front of the store is mixed. The long-term employees here seem the least responsive and the unhappiest. The younger employees are oftentimes more helpful, though they don't always know as much as the experienced ones. Overall? I avoid this CVS as much as possible. read more

I live in the area so I go to this CVS at least 3 to 4 times a week. Love that they are 24 hours and the have a wide selection of items. However, the customer service is really going down hill which makes me takes my business to the CVS on M street. Today I brought a protein shake then I saw another one I wanted instead before leaving the store which was also cheaper. When I politely asked the cashier who was working upstairs in the pharmacy area if I could return that protein she just said "NO." Flippantly. No explanation- no nothing. I have been a CVS customer for years so I know you CAN make unopened returns with your receipt. As I had my toddler with me I didn't argue with her I just went right downstairs to another cashier and returned it with no problem. I haven't been told NO like that since I was in middle school. RUDE. I had a few other things to buy but that makes me not want to go back there. read more

This is the most incompetent pharmacy I've ever used. I've had a prescription filled every month for the last 5 months, and there have been issues every time resulting in frustration and long wait times despite my prescription being on auto reload. The first time they hadn't called my doctor to get the prescription (I had been in previously to arrange it), twice they claimed I wasn't in their system, once they claimed I had no insurance on file, once the ran out of my medicine and didn't bother to notify me or reorder it?!?! If it's not one thing, it's another. It doesn't help that staff is not personable and impossibly slow. It's worth going out of your way to avoid this pharmacy. I will NEVER be returning to this pharmacy again. read more

This is without a doubt the worst pharmacy in the city. You will get 3 calls in a week to tell you your meds are ready. When you show up, the pharmacist will inevitably not be able to tell what you're picking up, and nothing will be ready. then you have to wait a minimum of 20 minutes every time to get what you need. The pharmacy employees are horrendous. It took me two separate trips (two different days) and I waited in FIVE lines to simply pick up a prescription. If possible, go somewhere else. If you want the full details: I called for a refill, selected a time two days in advance, waited until the selected time, and went to the store. This was a little after 5:00 PM so the line was very long. While waiting in line the cashier yelled at each person in line to get their last name so she could pull the prescription before we got to the register. I guess it was her attempt to speed things up but it seemed pretty unprofessional to shout at people when they are doing something sensitive like getting a prescription. I happened to have a coupon in my hand while waiting, and when she saw the coupon she shouted - again I was not even at the register yet - "What is that? You trying to change something in the system? I can't do that. You can't do that here." I assured her I just wanted my prescription and that I wasn't even sure she needed the coupon from my doctor (they didn't last time). She couldn't find my prescription, so I spelled my name over and over again. Finally - still not even at the register - she asked if my prescription was in a fridge. It's not, and again that's not a great thing to loudly ask someone in front of others, it could have been a sensitive prescription that I didn't want everyone to know about. Finally I get to the register, she can't find my prescription, but she finally pulls me up in their system. She turns the screen to a co-worker. "Do we even have this?" she asked. Guy shrugs. She looks back at me. "You have to go to drop-off." No explanation, no questions, just sent me away (she had done this with two people waiting in line in front of me, just shuttled people away after we had already waited in a long line, refusing to answer questions). I went to the drop off line now, confused and furious about my treatment. THE LINE DID NOT MOVE. I waited for a while, realized the guy at the counter had been there as long as I had been in the store, so I left. (Incidentally I tried to check out with my normal purchases downstairs and had a terrible experience there, too! Customer service here is non-existent.) Day two. I wait in line again. This time the cashier (same one) finds my prescription right away, but it costs $65. I ask her about that, since the previous time it only cost $15. "That's the price" she says. I again tell her about the coupon (which they didn't need last time). She shouts over to the pharmacist. The pharmacist tells her it's no problem, just look up the item online and get the coupon code. The cashier turned back to me. "Google it and get in the drop-off line." Here we go again! Shuttled back over to the drop off line. Eventually the head pharmacist sees that the line is too long and leaves to come help. She punches in my coupon code and tells me to take a seat, they'll call my name in a minute. I was confused since my prescription was already done, but I thought maybe the coupon would take a while in the system. So I sat down and waited, and waited, and waited. Finally I got BACK IN LINE to ask the cashier if I could just take my medicine. She calls over to the pharmacist to ask if it's ready. The pharmacist retorts "Yes, it's already done," as though that was a stupid question. I'm not sure if this last part is the pharmacist's fault or the cashier's but for god's sake, this shouldn't be so difficult. read more

Got a flu shot today: The Good: Some people have the "touch" when giving shots. Most don't. The young Russian-born immigrant administrator is the best. So gentle that for a few seconds I was still waiting. The Bad: The drug store purchasing portion of the experience was like a slow-running factory line. It took almost 20 minutes with no one ahead of me. Complete a form and wait till I was called back. Complete another form and wait. Pay (process insurance) and wait. And when the shot administrator showed up, he had to go badk, so I could wait a bit more. I hate to think what it would be like if others were in line ahead of me. read more
