This CVS is beside a metro stop. It has your typical CVS inventory. If you scan your CVS card or enter your phone number, you will get a 20 foot printout of coupons. The pharmacy line was steady and long, even after 5:30pm. It is a decent location. Street parking is challenging. read more

Glad it was here yesterday. Cold water and allergy medicine. This is quite a busy location. Yet am grateful as was struggling with heat. Zyrtec rocks. It brought immediate relief almost. In my opinion still best allergy medicine. The staff here were helpful. A lot of items are locked up. Yet the employees were able to get to us quickly. Like all CVS pharmacies in the greater DC area, this one is an insulting mess to the residents of DC, understaffed with long lines. But this one is particularly bad because their shelves are perpetually empty. I've been to this one four times for basic OTC cold medicine and supplies that stupid DC nanny staters require to be dispensed by a pharmacist. And I'm literally 0-for-4 because each time CVS is out of stock. It's 2017: how hard is it for a national chain to have computer-managed inventory? I finally complained to management and they blamed corporate HQ and said that it's a continuing problem. So I know not to go to this location until Amazon or Walmart buys CVS, fires the deadwood and makes it work. read more

Two things brought me into this particular CVS. Me being thirsty and the building itself. I have been on an Art Deco kick as of late and that has lead me to try to spot the buildings in D.C. that encompass the style. MPD headquarters and the Hecht's building are two of the more exemplary examples. Outside of grandiose edifices like those, D.C. has plenty of apartment buildings, store fronts and commercial strips that capture Art Deco motifs, some more subtly than others. Using HistoryQuest I found out that the building was built in 1936 with a Jarrett C. White as the architect, no George Santmyers but he'll do. For my thirst, I bought a Trumino protein drink. It was clear and not too pricey. I like that there were plenty of self-checkout machines but this particular day, they were all Card Only. Oh well, in and out and a building admired. read more

WHY ARE THE LINES SO LONG HERE!?!?!?! i spent 20 minutes in this store for a pack of gum. While waiting in line i picked up some gummi bears, pretzels, water, and jelly beans. I wanted cookies and they didnt have any. what kind of CVS doesnt have cookies??? ( i know, i used to work at a CVS!) The line was somewhere towards the back of the shampoo aisle. To be fair, I generally have a check-out issue with every CVS, every time. So perhaps the fault lies more with the corporate system than the individual location. (No, it's NOT me. I simply want the discounts I am entitled to, those that show up in my app but somehow fail to make it to the cash register.) Similarly, I do not find many CVS employees--anywhere--to be the friendliest. Again, I am thinking this is a corporate issue, as employee satisfaction seems dismally low. Having said that, this particular location, though on the smaller side with more limited hours, is my favorite in the area, a necessary evil because the savings CVS sometimes offers makes the trip bearable. It is always clean, there are plenty of staff to help and the layout makes things easy to find quickly. I like the location as it's a nice, uncrowded walk over the bridge and there are no professional panhandlers in front of the building harassing you for change. (After living in the District for awhile, you learn to tell the difference between the truly homeless, whom we like to help, and those who consider conning to be their job.) Because it is a smaller store, they don't carry pet products and sale items sell out quickly. A few employees in the store are super nice and friendly (particularly those working the floor), others not so much and there is one manager who seems to be a nightmare to work with. It was bad enough that she treated a customer (me) like a criminal who was trying to pull a fast one on the company, but to the cashier who had no control over the check-out issue, she was abominable. I actually apologized to the cashier for "causing" the problem because I felt so bad for how the manager had spoken to her. During my most recent visit, the check-out system stopped working altogether in the middle of my transaction and they had to move me to the next register. The couple checking out next to me was having an issue as well. It took at least 10 minutes to check each of us out. First world problems, to be sure. read more

There's plenty of negativity out there. So I've resolved to only record the positive experiences. I will only write reviews when I can give five stars, for someone's extra effort or consideration. American business runs on the (often un-acknowledged) good deeds and extra effort of its frontline troops. The CEOs get all the glory. And the working guy is often unsung. So I will be the self-appointed chief investigator for the Above and Beyond Bureau, registering instances of Above and Beyond. Sing the unsung a little bit. And yes, in this case, we see that there are heroes even at big mega-chain drugstore outlets which could so easily just be faceless. This five-star review isn't for the products or the pricing at this CVS, it's for a manager I met, Ramon Veliz. What did he do that was so cool? It was simple. But it struck me. I was buying a big V8. Along with a bunch of other items. At the cash register, Ramon was vigilant. He pointed out to me that the V8 was past its expiration date. And said he'd go grab another. I was pleasantly surprised. He didn't have to be that vigilant. He's part of a big machine. It'd be very easy (and even somewhat justified) for him just to scan and sell. It's the stocking guys or the distributors who should be checking for expired stuff on shelves. But Ramon took it upon himself to ensure that this customer wasn't getting old merch. This. CVS. Sucks. They don't sell picture frames. Or stamps. They lack a pharmacy. Their aisles are not clearly labeled and are crazy sizes, like they get wider at one end and smaller in the middle, like the whole place is crooked & they didn't bother to try to make aisles that suited the shape. It's always filled with crazy zoo-going tourists & Metro riders. It smells like sweat. The staff doesn't give a shit. Go to Cleveland Park up the road. Seriously, just take the L1/L2/L4 less than a mile north & go to the muchmuchmuch better CVS. read more

Nice location near the Metro. This CVS is pretty big and has several self-checkout stations. It has some grocery items, but I don't understand why anyone in the city would pay crazy prices for those. The people here seem friendlier than at the neighboring CVS in AdMo. read more

Small CVS, limited items in each category as everyone says. Lines are usually medium long and if you're trying to call the pharmacy, forget it. I have to wait on hold between 10-30min each time. That being said, this CVS exists to be a convenience store and pharmacy for the legions of residents nearby. I keep going because it's the closest place to where I live. I recommend you only use this place if you have to because you live nearby. The staff however is quite friendly. Nice people, and the pharmacy is very apologetic when I complain about the phone wait times. read more

All who we encountered here seem to be frazzled by the few customers in the store. They had a case of water sale that was no where to be found. This is a bad CVS. Here are the things I hate about this CVS: * There is no pharmacy. Yes, you read that right. It is not a pharmacy. You cannot get prescriptions here. * There is always a line. It doesn't matter what time of day you go, there will always be a line. If you walk in and there's no line, don't worry, a huge line will form in the time it takes you to find what you're looking for. * There is no room. The aisles are small and it's unclear where people should stand when waiting in line. The line sort of goes into the aisle area and it's hard to get around at all. People get grumpy. It's hard to tell if everyone's all in one line or if there are separate lines for each cash register, so there are occasional squabbles. To make matters worse, when they're re-stocking, they put all their boxes in the already-small aisles. * They don't have much. There's very little selection. So you don't need to worry about them re-stocking all that often. * I saw a cockaroach. Yes, I sure did. Nevertheless, it is convenient, so I go there pretty frequently. If you're looking for an actual pharmacy (but even less selection and much more expensive), go to Cathedral Pharmacy, which is a few blocks up, across from the zoo. read more

Crazy prices here. Are they trying to pay off the new building? They had exactly one CFL 60-watt replacement bulb, $13. Amazon sells a 6-pack for like $9. Ok, so they're not going to match Amazon prices but one bulb should at least be $5-6. I avoided that mistake, but went back and paid $9 for a bag of grocery bags. TP was overpriced. Everything here costs way more than it should. The Rite Aid down Connecticut is much more reasonable, though probably a mile away or so. read more

Have not written a bad review before, and I am grateful CVS is so accessible. However, it must be said: CVS apparently just spent time and money relocating this store to across the street. It's nearly as bad. At least now there is a pharmacy. Long lines, stressful feeling in the store. Always crowded, still too-narrow aisles, many important items out of stock a lot, etc., etc. Staff look harried. Adds to frenetic feel. Now, the entire neighborhood seems to be protesting that this CVS has applied to sell, without any consultation with the locals, food, wine and beer. In short, it has applied to exist as a grocery store. Within half a block, there is already a dedicated wine and liquor store and a small food market (with great stuff). Tere is a busy and good diner within a block. Lots of restaurants. These local businesses have been there for many years. (There is also a McDonald's.) Perhaps the mega-hotels in the neighborhood create demand for portable fast food and alcohol. I doubt the demand is that large. The CVS will simply create a "one-stop shopping" opportunity. But this commercial steamrolling of local small businesses seems unfair. CVS is supposed to be a drugstore, right? Furthermore, the design of the store now takes prime real estate, with a lovely view, in an historic area, and makes it a glaring night light--for the space station! The light pollution from the neon signs is bad enough, but at night, wow--really bad. Bad for bad for nature, the park nearby, insects (see studies on night light pollution--horrific), and people. On an environmental basis, this revamp of the store seems out of line. Some people think this 24-hour a day store will attract crime. The safety of having medicines available at all hours is good, yes. But we'll see. So far, nobody seems happy--just in a hurry to get what they want at any cost. This CVS sucks. There's no pharmacy. There's not a lot of stuff here. They have a back door that would be convenient for some people to use but its always locked. They are always understaffed, and the staff that are present are often rude and slow. I do go here often b/c its the only pharmacy in Woodley Park, but I detest it and find the omnipresent long lines annoying. Would be better if bigger and better staffed. read more

NO PHARMACY!!! Its true, this store does not have a pharmacy. Not only do they not do prescriptions (its a CVS!), they cannot sell things like Sudafed, because they are "behind the counter" drugs and there is no counter to put them behind. I live just around the corner, and every time I go here I am disappointed: no pharmacy, no Claritin, no baby food, no diapers. I prefer to walk a mile to the other one in Cleveland Park. Really. Oh, and the front door awning has the word "Pharmacy" on it. Don't be fooled, there isn't one. Corporate doesn't make custom awnings apparently ;) read more

A pretty standard CVS experience. They have a good, varied selection of toiletries, and you can pretty much find any health-related product you are looking for here (except for one time, when I baffled a whole team of employees when I was looking for a thermometer...???? Apparently they don't sell those.) The "grocery" section is surprisingly well-stocked, albeit overpriced (not shocking for a drugstore, and not too disappointing, considering the convenience factor). The line for the pharmacy can get a bit long, and even when you call prescriptions in ahead of time, you can wait awhile once you're there to pick them up. BEWARE the pharmacy hours! It closes at 6PM on both Saturday and Sunday, a good 5 hours before the actual store closes. Check ahead of going, and save yourself the inconvenience of going when you can't get your drugs! The Woodley Park CVS may not be the experience of a lifetime, but it's nice to have such a well-stocked drug store in the neighborhood for health needs or any last minute purchases. read more

So it's Christmas time and I go in there to buy red and green ribbon and . . . nada. Once again, the place represents the corn syrup and hydrogenated fat lobby well by the not 1, not 2, but 3 aisles full of snacks for zoogoers. Nothing for those of us who live in the neighborhood. Let me echo the other reviewers. I would venture that this is the worst CVS in the entire United States. Never ever staffed properly so you are guaranteed to wait (no matter what hour). Probably because so many of the customers are tourists management isn't too worried. On a positive note, I guess it is nice to have this historic landmark in my neighborhood. read more
