ELECTRONIC PRESCRIPTIONS FREQUENTLY DO NOT COME THRU DUE TO WALGREENS POOR TECHNOLOGY. Pharmacy has problem with getting electronic prescriptions. But they don't tell you their technology totally sucks & is broken. Instead, they just keep saying "We didn't get it/ we don't have it." Meanwhile, the patient is left to continually call their doctors office to resend the script (which, these days is nearly impossible to reach a human at a doctors office). So you go round & round but the pharmacy people never bother to tell you the problem is on their end. This has happened to me countless times and I've sat & waited and watched people experience the exact same thing. The pharmacy staff look at you like you're crazy, your doctor's staff wonder why you won't quit bugging them, and you - the patient/ customer - just continue to be gaslit. I feel I gotta warn people about this place. Be prepared to wait an hour if you send a prescription here. COVID shots are worse. I showed up for an appointment and they told me they called to reschedule (they didn't). One lady got pretty animated insisting she called. Then they told me people under 65 aren't allowed to get a 4th shot. This is obviously a lie, but I didn't bother fighting it since it was clear they had no intention of giving me my shot. Terrible service at the pharmacy. My husband and myself made an appointment at this location for a Covid booster. We also received our confirmation. When we arrived we were told to go to another location because they didn't have any boosters or our reservation. The two women were less than helpful. Great location and store, however, over the last several months the pharmacy has gone downhill tremendously. They always seem to be closed and when they are open the line is out the door and you end up waiting an hour plus to pick up a simple prescription. Waited over an hour for vaccinations for my kids today. We had 11:30 and 11:45 appointments and they did not get called back until 12:45. Worst pharmacy ever. After 27 minutes on hold they disconnect you. Always several phone calls ahead of you regardless when you call. Impossible to get notification about your prescription refill. They send you an email saying it needs to be refilled, you check off the appropriate box, they respond that they received it, and then when you call to verify if it's ready they have no record of it. This is happened to me twice within the last week. Have made errors in Rx refills GAve my husband nine pills instead of the 90 that were ordered. Mistakes like this should not be happening in a pharmacy. read more

I used their online form to request a transfer of prescriptions from CVS to Walgreens at 1815 CT Ave. The form worked fine. But nothing happened over the next several days. I tried again. Finally, I called them, and they told me they weren't doing transfers anymore. Why not inform people online so they don't use the form? The gal I talked to gave me phone and fax numbers for my neurologist to call in the prescription anew. Turned out those numbers were wrong. I called the pharmacy--you have to go through a lot just to talk to them--and I found out those numbers were wrong. She gave me what she said was the correct number. I signed off. "Thanks for the miss-information! It's been fun!" Someone needs to get in there and manage this place or close it out! read more

There is a lot i like about this store. It just went through a face lift and it looks way better than before. It is one of the biggest pharmacy stores around and has a wide selection of pretty much everything. I also like that they take apple pay -- the new chip credit cards actually take longer than the old swipe cards, where as Apple Pay just works. The location is great as well, especially for me as it is on my route home. I don't particularly think the employees are very knowledgeable, helpful or friendly and that is my biggest gripe. Sometimes the line can get long and they only have one, somewhat slow, clerk. But if you need something basic, chances are you can pop in here and find it 24/7. read more

I was here yesterday looking for a tip for the bottom of my cane. I had called the Rite Aid up by New Mexico Avenue but they only sold the canes themselves and not the little rubber tips or the handles that other stores might sell. They gave me the number to this store. I called them up and they indeed had the cane tips. The person on the phone told me they come in different sizes so I had to bring in the cane to make sure it fit. When I get here I go to the pharmacy and I see the canes but not the tips. The person at the pharmacy counter lets me know where I can find them. I verify with her to ensure I can open them to make sure it fits. They seemed to have around 7 or so sizes. The second one fit. When she rang it up it was less than $5 with tax. Cheaper than a whole cane. Plus two came in the box so I now have a spare if I ever lose the tip of the cane again. read more

It occurred to me that I frequent this store at least once a week and never reviewed it. As today's visit was especially pleasant, I think it's time. Rite Aid, as a whole, doesn't always have the cheapest prices, sale or otherwise; but nevertheless, it is my go-to pharmacy. I've written about my issues with CVS before (something always goes wrong at the register, employees seem to hate their jobs, shady loyalty program.) At Rite Aid, I rarely have any kind of an issue, which is easy to overlook, but when you think about it, non-hassle beats cheap prices anytime. This is an expansive store, two levels, with a decent grocery section (including dairy, fresh fruit and frozen), pet products and vast vitamin selection, in addition to typical drug store selections. Employees are mostly always friendly and welcoming and I like that there is someone on the floor to help customers find what they need. Today, I had a unique problem and asked to speak with a manager. His name escapes me at the moment...Kisso? He went out of his way to fix my issue, even though the fault lie totally with me. It's true that lines are sometimes long, this is a very busy location, the closest "general" store to three large hotels. read more

They are slow and always a line. Even if they tell you to pick your script up at a certain time it is never ready. Always "another 15 minutes", not long enough to go home and just long enough to shop for stuff you did not intend to buy. This happens EVERY time. read more

I came here to get my passport photo taken because they're website said that it was available to do so. Upon arriving, I asked a female middle eastern associate where I could go to have my passport photo taken. Her response was' "We don't do them" and hurried off behind the counter. I then asked her if it was a temporary thing or permanently and her response was "COVID" before she again sped off into the unknown. If I wasn't falsely misled to believe that Passport photos could be down here; I would've never stopped by to begin with. The pharmacy hours for service are terrible and they don't have enough people working in the pharmacy so lines are ridiculously long. The hours listed say they open at 8:00am but I just walked 25 minutes to get here and was told that the pharmacy does not open until 9:30am. I am really upset because I start chemo treatment this morning and needed my medications! This is one of the worse "convenience" stores and pharmacies I've ever been to. And I've been going for 15 years since it's the only one within 6 blocks of Kalorama. The cash register is typically staffed by one person with a line of 5-6 people. Make sure to budget 10 minutes. The pharmacy is often out of standard prescription meds. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT PHARMACY! My girlfriend tried to call to see if her prescription called in earlier that day was ready. After waiting 20 minutes, I told her I would go check at the store. Waited in 10 minute line because they were understaffed. Was told prescription was not ready, but I could wait there. After 40 minute wait, I asked what the status was. I was told they called the WRONG NAME 30 minutes earlier, even though I told the pharmacist the name and the correct name was on the label. The pharmacist was unapologetic, and indicated I should have checked earler, instead of the staff checking with whose prescription I was waiting for. Go two blocks to the CVS at DuPont Circle instead of wasting your time at this Walgreens. read more

Not quite a convenience store, since I wasn't able to find anything I was looking for in there! Not to mention the homeless guy who seemed to be there 24 hours a day, panhandling to every single shopper coming or going inside this place. They really should address that, as I'm sure this gentleman discourages people from entering when he's there. And he was there every single time I walked by, no matter what time of day or night! After walking in to look for some essentials, including alcohol, I strolled through the aisles. Guess what? Huge store, but I wasn't able to find anything I was looking for, including the brand of shampoo or bodywash that I was looking for, or alcohol! After walking around the huge store at least twice and not being able to find anything I needed, I was so disappointed, I had to leave. The store also has a dreary feel to it, with poor lighting and the set up was not convenient for the shopper. The toiletries were located down some stairs and down a very long aisle. And, at the time I went, which was close to 10 p.m., there were no employees around (or I didn't see any) to help. As I left, I was confronted by the same homeless guy who asked for money as I went in, acting as if I had more money coming out! I will just assume people were drunk when they wrote their positive reviews of this store because to me it just reminds me of the Superdome during Hurricane Katrina. The store is cramped, the items are disorganized, the aisles are like a maze, and the staff is pretty much useless. I think I got a STD just from picking up a shopping basket. Seriously the thing was covered in dirt and it felt like I was sticking my hand in a bucket of dirty pennies when I grabbed the handle. Some of the staff chooses to stand in your way as they watch your every move making sure you don't steal anything while the others are standing behind the register taking their sweet ass time. I wanted to quote Miranda Priestly while I waited in line, "By all means move at a glacial pace. You know how that thrills me." But excuse me, there really isn't a line so much as a huddled mass of customers trying to get out of this disease filled Ellis Island like store. Watch out for screaming children and idiot mothers. I was never a big fan of this place until this weekend. Their prescription prices are always expensive -- but I was out of my prescription due a shipping problem with drugstore.com -- I went to rite aid and the woman gave me 2 pills to hold me over while they tried to contact my doctor. Then when I returned the next day, the insurance didn't want to cover the cost given that drugstore.com had filled the prescription, but the pharmacist called my insurance and was able to get them to cover a 14 day fill to hold me over. Considerate and friendly service always go a long way.......... read more

I love a place where I can pick up a frozen Lean Cuisine meal, foot salts and a can of Chef Boyardee in one place. Unlike almost any CVS you go to in this city, the Rite Aid is clean, well-lit, has wide aisles (and carts for your convenience) and doesn't look like it was ransacked by barbarians. The Rite Aid on Connecticut Ave. has a full pharmacy, a photo center and a small freezer case. There is also an expanded magazine and paperback section (mostly romance and mystery novels, but cheaper than buying them at the airport bookstore). They also carry more housewares than the CVS and they have a smaller, less-obnoxious toy section. The selection is good, but the cashiers are slow and at their busiest times (lunch-ish and right after work), they never have enough registers open. They don't have an ExtraCare card-type rewards system, but the circular at the front of the store lists all fo their deals for the week. read more

What happened to the creepy window display!? For those of you that hadn't seen it, a mysterious family of mannequins that inhabited glass enclosures on the Florida Ave side of the building used to suggest that the pharmacy and convenience store sold everything from fishing tackle to professional sports gear. While that's not the case (clearly mannequin fam was kicked out for false advertising), it feels like you can find just about anything in this Rite Aid. Things can get pretty backed up at the Pharmacy and check-out counters, and twice now I've tried to use a circular coupon (change your prescription and get a $50 Rite-Aid gift card!), and it has resulted in confused computer systems and external calls - but hey, CVS never gave me $50 free dollars. All-in-all a good one-stop-shop for everything from gym socks to baked beans. read more

This is a nice store. I found everything I was looking for. The reason for this 5 star review though, is Michael, the Special Security Officer. I noticed him going out of his way to help customers. It made me smile to see how positive and caring he was with them. And then, he went out of his way to help me! Seriously Walgreens, Michael should be the face of your company in your advertising.
