What happened to the creepy window display!? For those of you that hadn't seen it, a mysterious family of mannequins that inhabited glass enclosures on the Florida Ave side of the building used to suggest that the pharmacy and convenience store sold everything from fishing tackle to professional sports gear. While that's not the case (clearly mannequin fam was kicked out for false advertising), it feels like you can find just about anything in this Rite Aid. Things can get pretty backed up at the Pharmacy and check-out counters, and twice now I've tried to use a circular coupon (change your prescription and get a $50 Rite-Aid gift card!), and it has resulted in confused computer systems and external calls - but hey, CVS never gave me $50 free dollars. All-in-all a good one-stop-shop for everything from gym socks to baked beans. read more

I was locked out of my place, it was midnight on a weeknight, and in my desperation I had come to the Rite Aid. The security guard there is a polite gent who always holds the door open, and I thought he might help me find a locksmith. No dice--the guard could only commiserate--so I decided to cheer up with a Chipwich and some 3-packs of chewing gum. They actually have some good deals here. I was going to have to hike it to my friend's place across town, so I stocked up on canned nuts and chocolate bars, too. Since then I have come back many a time. Ever since the Safeway next to our building closed, this is the only place to get foodstuffs or pharmacy items in the direct vicinity around my work building, so I am forced to come here. In terms of the stock, it is a typical Rite Aid. The place feels like a basement to me, and is kind of old and gross. Whatever, I'm not hanging out in there, so it does the trick. Always reliable, they're just always there. Sometimes I feel like the security guard follows me around (and not very stealthily) to make sure that I don't steal anything, what the hell? Eh, it is what it is. To repeat myself, I appreciate Rite Aid because it is what it is, it's just THERE. It's there full of everyday practical and impractical things (twix bars, gummi bears, shampoo, paper towels, Guatemalan pastries, juice, halloween costumes, lotto tickets, etc.) to fulfill your hearts desire. read more

Their pharmacist recently went the extra mile for me to obtain a refill of my blood pressure medicine (ordered by mail which never arrived and, after 10 days, still has not). He checked the computer to find my prescription and called my insurance to get an over-ride to dispense me a one. Now I'm all set for 90 days. Thanks to their great pharmacy. They keep track of our shots and I love their order by phone refill feature. They also have an auto refill benefit. read more

I really do not like this Rite Aid location. I give the 2nd star for the fact that they are open 24/7. The store is poorly laid out. This location is large but terribly understaffed. The line to check out was a good 14 people deep with only 2 cashiers. Finally, the store manager came up and began ringing sales. Not very friendly either. Also, their promotions/pricing never seem to match what is labeled on the shelves (in their favor). When I point this out (it's happened on more than one visit), the cashier always seems to think I'm trying to pull one over on them or that I'm some sort of scammer (which I assure you I am most certainly NOT). I think I'll switch to the 24/7 CVS on Dupont Circle. read more

I called the pharmacy to move some prescriptions there from CVS Alexandria because I have recently moved close to this Walgreen's. What a breath of fresh air! I spoke with DJ in the pharmacy and he made what I thought was going to be a nightmare of red tape into a very easy and pleasant experience. He was helpful, friendly, and professional. Good job Walgreen's on having such a wonderful employee. I am glad to be affiliated with this location. read more

This place has been a staple for me for years, but it is no longer open 24/7; the hours are far more limited now. The pharmacy is well run, as is the store itself, but the extended hours and convenience were among this location's biggest selling points for me (minus a star for that). With that said, I have to disagree with other reviewers' complaints about the staff -- I find the employees at this location to be friendly and helpful. The check-out line can definitely get long, but that's true for any store at busy times, such as when many people are leaving work. And the line generally moves quickly, at least in my experience, so I wouldn't stay away just because of that. read more

Here's an update for folks to strongly consider before they "run in to just get a few quick things." You. Will. Never. Be. In. And. Out. Quickly. Ever. Literally the slowest check out in the area. Slower than Soviet Safeway (which is typically the standard-bearer for slowness). The process here: one person is on register duty and will call to others somewhere in the back of the store if they need help. Which is basically every single time I'm there. And believe me, I go here a lot. You might ask why I go to a place so often when I rate it so poorly. Well. I'm a lazy S.O.B. and the selection here is great. The problem is it shouldn't take me 15 minutes to buy a soda and a ream of toilet paper. The lines fill up quickly with people that run in to just get a few things, so the head cashier is always having to call for back up, which takes the others so long to do that you wonder if there's an obstacle course in the way or a troll that must be defeated before they can manage their way up front. When they finally do make it, half the time you end up with someone that decides to sign up for a new Rite-Aid card, which takes F O R E V E R. I don't blame people for signing up though. You can save a lot of money on their deals there. 2-for-1's on teepee and other essential household items regularly. It just gets kind of annoying when most of the store has deals on their items, so if you don't use the card, you're really risking the chance to save a fair bit of money. In any case. Yes. They have just about everything you could image. Drones? Yeah. Jukeboxes? Yeah. Medicine? Oh sure, that too. Grocery aisle? You betchya. But please don't go in here with the thought it will ever take you any less than about 10 minutes to go through check out. read more

The restoration is unbelievable. The improvement is beautiful and organized very well, but I actually wanted to comment specifically on the pharmacy. It's always quick, easy, efficient and the employees are both knowledgeable and kind. I want to commend the two guys that were just working this evening, dealing with an unbelievably hostile man who was peppering an already ridiculous tantrum with abominable racist comments. I couldn't believe that Amir and his colleague maintained such a level of professionalism and calm throughout such a situation. It speaks volumes of this place - hiring good, smart people with a whole lot of integrity. Kudos to the women at the registers, too. I went here to pick up my medication and the first thing the employee did as soon as he saw my service dog was to try to get me out. I told him multiple times he was a service dog. He finally stopped giving me a hard time once I told him about my condition, which made me feel very upset. It is sad to see how some people can be so ignorant. read more

The cashiers don't know what speed is. If you expect to grab and go a bottle of water/soda, expect a 25 minute ordeal. If you want a takeaway salad there are no forks or napkins. If you want a takeaway sandwich, there are no mayo packets or napkins. This place survives only because of a location full of tourists. read more

Large fully-stocked store and much better than the 13th & U Street NW location. Only problem was many promotional tags for "Happy You Year" promo were removed more than 12 hours before the promo expired making it impossible to know which products were participating. Store manager was less than helpful and could not tell me which products qualified for the promo. Luckily, I still was able to identify enough products so that I met the requirements to purchase $250 worth of participating products to get 2 free nights at many US Hyatt hotels. read more

Their service is friendly, and everyone is helpful at finding things. The prices are good, especially if you join the free Wellness sign-up. They generally get backup if the front cash registers have a long line. Not having any big box stores in the neighborhood, they fill a void with a wide range from pharmacy to convenience store items. read more

This is the closest you get to a super mart in the Upper Dupont/Kalorama area. If you need it, they got it (except mother's day cards on mothers day). However, do not be in a hurry, the line there can be insanely long, the massive Hilton and the other hotels across the street ensure that. Having been to a few drug stores and feeling like I'm being somewhat jerked around , I finally found this great place. Those guys take care of my refill orders instantly (hey, they never even ask me for my prescription number that my former pharmacist used to almost make into an entry barrier) and are good communicators. No hassles, no surprises, efficient service. Ah, and that $25 coupon for a new prescription that someone complained about went through without any probs for me. read more

I wish there were other options close by, because maybe the customer service would be a little better if there was competition in the area. Friendly clerks, clean and well-stocked store, tempered by security guards who follow people around and stare at people. I remember an unfortunately lower-class African-American man in line at the counter ranting about the racism with which he felt he was being treated. I just wanted to get home, but I kind of regret not letting him know it was not just black people who got that treatment -- middle-class successful professional Caucasians get it too: security guards going out of their way to turn around and head off in the direction of people who have just come in, literally to follow them around and watch them; security guards who stare at one's activities while one is inspecting merchandise. It's overt, it's shameless, it's impolite, and it leaves me wondering, Do I have to have a three-piece Armani suit and a Don Draper look to be above criminal suspicion? (And would I, then?) This is my number one complaint about retail chains around DC: aggressive, obnoxious security that goes way beyond what is necessary and far over the line into insinuation. Not pleasant. Still, the clerks are nice. I like them. I still go to this store, anyway. I have no idea whether this security stuff is needed. read more

I have to say the employees i encountered at this rite aide store really shocked me with their lack of customer service. Im a first time visitor in dc and was exploring the georgetown area the day i walked into this store to purchase much needed pain releiver for my menstrual cramps. I thought i would buy what i need and use the restroom at this store. Yeah right!!!!! I walk in and ask the lady where van i find the ladies restroom? She says very matter of fact.. We do not have public restrooms!! I was taken back by this considering this a large drugstore and national chain so i couldnt imagine they would not offer a restroom for their customers. So i ealk atound the store looking for motrin or aleve and encounter another female employee stocking shelves so i ask her just to be sure theirs no available restroom. This lady seemed even offended i asked and says no we dont have public restrooms! Says i should go to starbucks to use the restroom. Still surprised by this i am frustrated i cant use their restroom so decide to grab what i need and go. As im shopping around for the water i needed, the store manager steps out of his office and kindly asks did u find eveything u were looking for? I say yes i found everything but a restroom! He was very nice and says we dont offer the restroom to the public but i will let u use my restrooms. I thought great! I can finally go to a restroom. So he indicated where to go and no keys are necessary to access. When i walk up the same lady who rudely turned me away was standing guard at the restroom and i ask excuse can i use the restroom and very bluntly says NOOOO u cant use it!!! I explain the manager allowed me to use it and she stares at me with a rude face and i just walked away! What upset me the most was the attitude by these ladies. I am a paying customer and it is unfathamble to me that a store of this size would not offer a restroom to its customers! Rite aide has lost my business. I am giving this store 1star because the manager was kind and professsional however the other employees their should learn to do the same! read more
