Great local pharmacy for compounding parking is tough but I've always managed to find a spot in front.

I have experienced several logistical issues getting medications delivered on time, so this seems to be a system problem rather than one-offs. Staff have generally not been friendly and open to fixing issues in a timely way. Would not recommend. read more

When my doctor told me I needed a compounded medication, I was stressing on how to get to a pharmacy that could do that. She recommended this place, which was a quick walk from my appointment. To my surprise, when I called after my appt, they said it would be ready right away! I only waited at the pharmacy a minute or two and it was ready. They also understood how to bill insurance for it, which was apparently a little complicated. All the staff I interacted with on the phone and in person were friendly. Judging by the large number of one-star reviews for this pharmacy and the descriptions in the reviews, I think I had the misfortune to deal with Steven Toth, a hostile, rude, confrontational, and extraordinarily nasty piece of work. My MD suggested I call this pharmacy to ask about stock, since there's been a long shortage. I've called other drugstores about this, & they treated me with respect and dignity. I asked this "pharmacist" "Do you have XYZ drug in stock? I have a script." He said, "I won't talk to you unless you're a patient. I won't answer any questions. I won't discuss any matters." He did not say "It's company policy not to talk about XYZ drug." I am a very polite person--without fail. This person, on the other hand, must be one of the rudest pharmacists in town! Oh, and he hung up on me. My follow-up research wasn't surprising: DC's Dept. of Health (inc. pharmacy regs) notes it is the *ethical responsibility* of a pharmacist to answer a customer's reasonable questions about drugs. Of course, when I told Mr. Jerk just that, he argued with me! And he lied, claiming it's "government policy that we do this." I call BS. I warn anyone thinking of patronizing Tshiffley to read the proliferation of one and two-star yelp reviews. You've been warned--I wish I had been as well. read more

EXCELLENT!!!! I'd use no other pharmacy, even if others have longer hours. The knowledgeable pharmacists -- and the helpful, patient staff -- are incredibly customer focused. Rude and unfriendly service. The employees didn't speak and barely interacted with me during the transaction. He simply asked for my credit card never telling me the total or asking if I had questions. This was unlike any pharmacy visit I've ever had. One upset and the reason for the second star was the service I received over the phone prior to picking up my prescription. That person was nice. read more

They were so helpful! My boyfriend needs to check his blood pressure regularly, but at 6'6" and a muscular build it's hard to find a pressure cuff that fits him. I called, they found and held a wrist monitor for me, and worked with me so I could pay it through my FSA. Excellent and knowledgeable service. read more

Don't go there if you expect to be acknowledged as a paying customer for a timely purchase of even small things like snacks. The clerk ignored me while he chatted for several minutes 2 feet away with customers who already paid. Then when I politely said excuse me can I please pay, I was told I was buyting in with a passive aggressive smile and laugh. Seriously slow and inconsiderate even though I had to get home to be a care taker. I'm surprised they're still in business but probably have alot of aging customers who get treated better as regulars. Really too much bs to go through for a quick purchase. Most people my age have only known pharmacies out of Big Box stores but Tschiffely's is small family business that really cares about their customers and for that reason I will use them for any pharmaceutical needs while I live in the area. Nasty rude pharmacist who cut me off every time I tried to speak. I would not recommend getting your rx filled there.

David Toth saves the day! Beware that this place closes at 6 PM. I didn't know that, and rolled up at 6:20 to get my wife's time-sensitive prescription. I called their phone number as a Hail Mary. The gentleman closing things down inside actually answered the phone after hours, and graciously agreed to let me in to fetch the medicine! The cash register had been shut down for the day, but Mr. David Toth manually wrote down my credit card number for the payment, and sent me on my merry way! Don't try getting this type of above-and-beyond service from the drugstore chains. I will continue to patronize this historic, effective, and apparently family-run business. read more

I came to Tschiffely through my doctor at Kaiser. She called in the Rx and, no joke, in less than an hour, Steve called to let me know that my Rx was ready. He was so accommodating and even offered to deliver if I couldn't pick up that day. I was able to come in and Steve gave me a proper demonstration of how to properly use the medication. I asked him several questions and he was patient and explained things so that I could understand. I think the customer service is excellent and I would definitely come back to see Steve. He is courteous as is the other staff there when I came in. read more

Don't go here. The pharmacist Steve was very rude and didn't care that I need my prescription or will end up in hospital

I can't say enough good things about the pharmacist at Tschiffely. Steve is accommodating, patient, thorough, and incredibly helpful. My doctor had written a complicated prescription where I was supposed to increase the dose a little each week, so I needed a number of pills in different doses and quantities. Not only did Steve easily work out how many I needed, but he also suggested the combination that would be the least expensive. He always seems willing to go the extra mile, whether it's by quoting prices, making sure my insurance company is cooperating, or offering to contact my doctor if a prescription wasn't sent. I haven't had the best experiences with the staff members who initially answer the phone - they've acted as if I'm interrupting them when they're in the middle of doing something important (who knows, maybe I am), and every time I call, I am put on hold immediately. However, 90% of my dealings have been with Steve, and his good humor more than makes up for any shortcomings from the rest of the staff. I should add that in my experience, it is almost always less expensive to fill a prescription at Tschiffely rather than at other compounding pharmacies in DC. There was only one occasion where a prescription was costlier at Tschiffely. read more

I have been using Tschiffely Pharmacy for the past several years and I find them to be reliable and very helpful. Any time I have questions about a prescription, they provide accurate and useful answers. It is unusual these days to have a pharmacist whom you can talk to and get sound advice. I am always confident that my medications will come from the most reputable sources available. If I cannot come in to pick up my prescriptions, they are promptly mailed to me. read more

I just took in some prescriptions to be filled, and Steve ran all the scenarios for me without my even knowing to ask. Turns out, it would have been far more expensive (by hundreds of dollars) to go through my insurance than just to pay cash (thanks, United ). I've never dealt with such a helpful pharmacist! Surprised by the negative reviews - I've always had a good experience here. The pharmacist saved me money by making sure I didn't buy stuff that wouldn't be as effective and gave me good advice. The product selection is really upscale - brands include Gewohl, Kneipp, Fa, Pears, Roger Gallet and lots more fun euro things (no its not as wide as a CVS but much more sophisticated). Had a few Rx's filled here - quick and no hassle. read more

I was shocked that the other review of Tschiffely's was so negative; I get amazing service there. It is so refreshing to walk into a pharmacy where the staff are all friendly, call you by name, and greet you with a warm smile. I also am a big believer in supporting a small, family-owned, local business instead of the conglomerate chain. All the pharmacists here are amazing and very knowledgeable. They are able to advise you about drugs, of course, but they all know a lot about dietary supplements and homeopathic products, which the pharmacy stocks. In fact, Doug, one of the pharmacists, is even a certified holistic nutritionist. In addition to dispensing regular drugs, Tschiffely is a compounding pharmacy, which means they can make drugs specifically for you. For example, if you need to take 10 milligrams of a drug that only comes in 50 mg tablets, they can make capsules for you with 10 mg. I get a digestive drug from them that is not approved by the FDA; a compounding pharmacy is the only place you can obtain it legally in the U.S. Hint: if you need a refill on one of these compounded medications, give them more than one day's notice so you can be sure to get it when you need it; they use special equipment that has to be cleaned between each order. I have fun browsing the aisles at Tschiffely's; they stock a lot of old-school body-care products and European products. They also have a decent number of medical supplies, like ankle braces and diabetic socks. If you're not in the Farragut North area when you need your scripts, Tschiffely delivers for a reasonable fee. Great service! read more

All of my experiences with this pharmacy have been really good. It's a little small and old fashioned, but the people there are always super friendly and helpful. Stephen Toth, the Pharmacist and owner was extremely rude, abrasive, and unapologetic when my primary care provider transmitted a prescription electronically in error. For some reason, I was on the receiving end of his disdain for their error and I was talked to like a 5 year old child that wasn't following instructions. My provider is in the building and I returned to their office to let them know how unhappy Mr. Steve was. So, the staff from the office returned to the Pharmacy w/me to explain what occurred and they apologized for the error. The employee with the provider asked Mr. Toth to not take the error out on their patient (me). Steve remained firm in his belief that he did nothing wrong and didn't have the moral strength to get past his ego and extend an apology to a loyal customer of three years that has always treated his staff with a great amount of respect. Steve told the staff from my provider's office that I could go to another pharmacy if I didn't like it. It's very unfortunate because his staff are very helpful and probably are the driving factor in this place receiving great reviews from others. So, there is a Pharmacy called Foer's that is only a block away that will provide a great personable service and you wont have to deal with someone so egocentric----in the event a provider transmits an electronic prescription in error that needs to be provided via hard/written copy. It's not always what you say ---- but, how you say it. If you scroll down you'll notice that all the negative reviews involve a negative interaction with Mr. Steve.... It appears that I'm not the only one who has experienced being treated so poorly and not in keeping with the high level of conduct standards expected from someone licensed to dispense medications in the District of Columbia. read more

I had my first negative experience with Steve, owner and pharmacist. He refused to fill a prescription based on a preconceived notion that the drug could or would be used for an off-label purpose. I listened to a very rude, sanctimonious, soap-box type rant from him before gently letting him know that I understood his concern, but that I was not the proper audience for his opinions and views. Given that the prescription can be filled elsewhere (as it is not for an off-label use), I will remove my business from Tschiffely. Permanently. Pharmacists are not doctors, and Steve seems to have forgotten the distinction. read more

My doctor at Washington Hospital Center recommended I go to this pharmacy to fill my prescription for a compound. I was told Tschiffely's would easily be able to do it. My initial interaction with sales staff and the Pharmacist/Owner Steve was fine. I waited about 15 minutes while he made the compound. Steve then told me that my insurance carrier was not approving 2 of the 3 medicines needed to make the compound, so my claim was rejected. I had the option to pay the full cash price (which I did) and I could take it up with the carrier. He said the insurance company wasn't recognizing a code he was putting in. I called my insurance carrier's pharmacy help desk. A representative called Steve and explained to him how to put the claim in properly. When I followed up with Steve, he claims their solution wouldn't work because even though it would go through now, he was not getting paid for 2 of the 3 ingredients used to make the compound. He gave me an option of coming back to the pharmacy, and he'd re-ring the sale and only charge me for those 2 ingredients rather than the full cash price I had paid earlier in the day. I called my insurance company back to explain what happened. They said it appeared on their end Steve had already put the transaction back through so 1 ingredient was covered. They did finally tell me the other 2 ingredients would not be approved though. That was fine because I knew I could pay for those separately...or so I thought. Flash forward to today when I returned to the pharmacy and spoke to Steve. Steve proceeded to get angry and berate me in front of other customers because he said an insurance representative had hung up the phone on him. He would no longer help me. When I reminded him that he told me I could return to the store to get the transaction re-rung so I only paid for the 2 "not covered" ingredients, Steve got even angrier. He said because of my inquiry to the insurance company he got audited, and it was a very emotional thing for him. He said, "I'm sorry, but I won't do anything for you." I was flabbergasted. I asked a sales associate if I could have the name and contact information for the store manager or owner, and she quietly looked down and said, "I'm sorry....he's the owner and manager." Bottom line....this pharmacy may help some customers, but it was clear that Steve thinks he may speak to anyone, including customers, however he feels. His problem was obviously with the insurance company, yet the treated me like I did something wrong. I will never go back to Tschiffely Pharmacy, and will do everything I can to make sure my friends and co-workers don't either. I've also called my doctor at Washington Hospital Center to let him know about the horrible customer experience I received there. read more

I had amazingly friendly service at Tschiffely's! The pharmacist went out of his way to do everything he could to help me when prescription hadn't arrived from my doctor in time and he understood how important it was that I had the medication. This was just my second visit and the pharmacist seemed genuinely happy for me when I didn't didn't need a refill of another script... he knew it was good news for me and it was so sweet of him to share that little happiness. He was very knowledgeable about the unique medications I take. The rest of the staff was friendly and helpful and they have a nice selection of cosmetics, including Roger Gallet, which is not super easy to find. read more

Service to the individual client/customer is the priority not only with them but also with their employees, who get to know you and your voice on the telephone.
