When my doctor told me I needed a compounded medication, I was stressing on how to get to a pharmacy that could do that. She recommended this place, which was a quick walk from my appointment. To my surprise, when I called after my appt, they said it would be ready right away! I only waited at the pharmacy a minute or two and it was ready. They also understood how to bill insurance for it, which was apparently a little complicated. All the staff I interacted with on the phone and in person were friendly. Steve was extremely rude and transparent and doesn't care he's rude he said he's the owner and been here for years on in . It's sad and I ll never return. The other staff is nice and quick when I've recently used them but after Steve lashed out on the phone about having a crappy day I refuse. read more

I have experienced several logistical issues getting medications delivered on time, so this seems to be a system problem rather than one-offs. Staff have generally not been friendly and open to fixing issues in a timely way. Would not recommend. read more

Great local pharmacy for compounding parking is tough but I've always managed to find a spot in front.

Judging by the large number of one-star reviews for this pharmacy and the descriptions in the reviews, I think I had the misfortune to deal with Steven Toth, a hostile, rude, confrontational, and extraordinarily nasty piece of work. My MD suggested I call this pharmacy to ask about stock, since there's been a long shortage. I've called other drugstores about this, & they treated me with respect and dignity. I asked this "pharmacist" "Do you have XYZ drug in stock? I have a script." He said, "I won't talk to you unless you're a patient. I won't answer any questions. I won't discuss any matters." He did not say "It's company policy not to talk about XYZ drug." I am a very polite person--without fail. This person, on the other hand, must be one of the rudest pharmacists in town! Oh, and he hung up on me. My follow-up research wasn't surprising: DC's Dept. of Health (inc. pharmacy regs) notes it is the *ethical responsibility* of a pharmacist to answer a customer's reasonable questions about drugs. Of course, when I told Mr. Jerk just that, he argued with me! And he lied, claiming it's "government policy that we do this." I call BS. I warn anyone thinking of patronizing Tshiffley to read the proliferation of one and two-star yelp reviews. You've been warned--I wish I had been as well. read more

They were so helpful! My boyfriend needs to check his blood pressure regularly, but at 6'6" and a muscular build it's hard to find a pressure cuff that fits him. I called, they found and held a wrist monitor for me, and worked with me so I could pay it through my FSA. Excellent and knowledgeable service. read more

Don't go there if you expect to be acknowledged as a paying customer for a timely purchase of even small things like snacks. The clerk ignored me while he chatted for several minutes 2 feet away with customers who already paid. Then when I politely said excuse me can I please pay, I was told I was buyting in with a passive aggressive smile and laugh. Seriously slow and inconsiderate even though I had to get home to be a care taker. I'm surprised they're still in business but probably have alot of aging customers who get treated better as regulars. Really too much bs to go through for a quick purchase. I went to the pharmacy with my prescription, asked them how long it would take. They said 15/20 minutes if I wanted to stay. So I said yes. I wait and after about 30 minutes I ask if it's ready. They apologize and say they're just getting to it and to wait 20 more minutes. I do that until the pharmacist comes and says he's been busy with calls. He gives me the option of "waiting another 20-30 minutes with no guarantee." Needless to say, at that point I left and went to a more reliable pharmacy that filled my prescription in 15 minutes! I would never recommend this pharmacy. read more

This pharmacy has some of the nicest and most dedicated people I've met in my 17 years in DC. My doctor sent a complicated prescription to CVS, which was unable to fill it. Tschiffely worked with my doctor and CVS to get it transferred and filled. They even stayed open a bit past closing to make sure I could pick it up. I'm thinking of sending all my future prescriptions here. read more

Most people my age have only known pharmacies out of Big Box stores but Tschiffely's is small family business that really cares about their customers and for that reason I will use them for any pharmaceutical needs while I live in the area. David Toth saves the day! Beware that this place closes at 6 PM. I didn't know that, and rolled up at 6:20 to get my wife's time-sensitive prescription. I called their phone number as a Hail Mary. The gentleman closing things down inside actually answered the phone after hours, and graciously agreed to let me in to fetch the medicine! The cash register had been shut down for the day, but Mr. David Toth manually wrote down my credit card number for the payment, and sent me on my merry way! Don't try getting this type of above-and-beyond service from the drugstore chains. I will continue to patronize this historic, effective, and apparently family-run business. read more

I had the most amazing experience with this pharmacy. I'm going on a sailing trip for a week and was desperate for the seasickness patches so that I could enjoy my vacation. Originally my doctor had called it into a cvs and they didn't have it in stock. Of course I did not find this out until after my doctors office was closed. Panic ensues. It seems as though not a single pharmacy in DC carries what I need. Thankfully I found Tschiffely Pharmacy. I called and Dave took my insurance info over the phone. He then called CVS to have my prescription transferred. I called him when I was close to make sure they were able to get the prescription. Dave was able to take my payment over the phone and brought it out to my car so I didn't have to pay for parking. It was a great experience and I will now have a great time on my trip free of seasickness. Thank you Dave and Tschiffely! PS there is construction on the front of their building so a little hard to find without knowing that! read more

I came to Tschiffely through my doctor at Kaiser. She called in the Rx and, no joke, in less than an hour, Steve called to let me know that my Rx was ready. He was so accommodating and even offered to deliver if I couldn't pick up that day. I was able to come in and Steve gave me a proper demonstration of how to properly use the medication. I asked him several questions and he was patient and explained things so that I could understand. I think the customer service is excellent and I would definitely come back to see Steve. He is courteous as is the other staff there when I came in. read more

I can't say enough good things about the pharmacist at Tschiffely. Steve is accommodating, patient, thorough, and incredibly helpful. My doctor had written a complicated prescription where I was supposed to increase the dose a little each week, so I needed a number of pills in different doses and quantities. Not only did Steve easily work out how many I needed, but he also suggested the combination that would be the least expensive. He always seems willing to go the extra mile, whether it's by quoting prices, making sure my insurance company is cooperating, or offering to contact my doctor if a prescription wasn't sent. I haven't had the best experiences with the staff members who initially answer the phone - they've acted as if I'm interrupting them when they're in the middle of doing something important (who knows, maybe I am), and every time I call, I am put on hold immediately. However, 90% of my dealings have been with Steve, and his good humor more than makes up for any shortcomings from the rest of the staff. I should add that in my experience, it is almost always less expensive to fill a prescription at Tschiffely rather than at other compounding pharmacies in DC. There was only one occasion where a prescription was costlier at Tschiffely. read more

Any time I have questions about a prescription, they provide accurate and useful answers. It is unusual these days to have a pharmacist whom you can talk to and get sound advice. Surprised by the negative reviews - I've always had a good experience here. The pharmacist saved me money by making sure I didn't buy stuff that wouldn't be as effective and gave me good advice. The product selection is really upscale - brands include Gewohl, Kneipp, Fa, Pears, Roger Gallet and lots more fun euro things (no its not as wide as a CVS but much more sophisticated). I was shocked that the other review of Tschiffely's was so negative; I get amazing service there. It is so refreshing to walk into a pharmacy where the staff are all friendly, call you by name, and greet you with a warm smile. I also am a big believer in supporting a small, family-owned, local business instead of the conglomerate chain. All the pharmacists here are amazing and very knowledgeable. They are able to advise you about drugs, of course, but they all know a lot about dietary supplements and homeopathic products, which the pharmacy stocks. In fact, Doug, one of the pharmacists, is even a certified holistic nutritionist. In addition to dispensing regular drugs, Tschiffely is a compounding pharmacy, which means they can make drugs specifically for you. For example, if you need to take 10 milligrams of a drug that only comes in 50 mg tablets, they can make capsules for you with 10 mg. I get a digestive drug from them that is not approved by the FDA; a compounding pharmacy is the only place you can obtain it legally in the U.S. Hint: if you need a refill on one of these compounded medications, give them more than one day's notice so you can be sure to get it when you need it; they use special equipment that has to be cleaned between each order. I have fun browsing the aisles at Tschiffely's; they stock a lot of old-school body-care products and European products. They also have a decent number of medical supplies, like ankle braces and diabetic socks. If you're not in the Farragut North area when you need your scripts, Tschiffely delivers for a reasonable fee. Great service! read more
