At the start of a four-day stay in the area of Georgetown University, I realized I did not bring my prescribed daily medication. I'm a licensed physician. I called the nearest pharmacy and requested a four-day supply of my medication. I was pleasantly surprised when I was told I could pick it up in an hour. They have gone above and beyond every time I've been there. I needed name brand medicine a couple years ago. CVS said they couldn't help me and wouldn't order it for me. I went to Brookville for the first time and asked if they could help. While they didn't have the pills either, they did order them and had them the next morning for me. OK so yeah, the front counter people are a little odd. But I had been ordering my prescriptions online and couldn't stand the waste from all the packaging so I decided to go local. The pharmacist informed that due to a manufacturer's rebate on one of my prescriptions, it would be half the cost to get it monthly rather than a 3-month supply. I would never have known. The CVS pharmacy said they needed to order it so I called Brookville and they filled the prescription right away and I was able to leave with the much needed medication on a very important trip. This pharmacy gave my mother the wrong medication for the second time. They gave her diabetic medication metformin in her cholesterol medication bottle (atorvastin) and she had been taking it for months before someone caught the error CVS made. This is unacceptable! This place is amazing. To be honest I have a CVS closer to my house and to work. However a few months back I needed a rx cough syrup and it was "backordered" which led me to try a smaller pharmacy. They had it and I got the rx in a matter of minutes. Today I called to see if they had rx that was backordered at both CVS and Safeway. I was planning on coming back to grab it after our week long vacation. Low and behold- 5 minutes later I had both prescriptions! Knowledgeable pharmacist, friendly staff, fast service. Their answering machine sits right out where they take orders and ring you up. I've stood there on more than one occasion listening to them play the machine, hearing patient information I had no business hearing. Avoid this place unless you don't mind the whole world listening while a doctor's office gives your name, date of birth, and then requests refills for your Viagra, Prozac, specialty laxative and herpes cream (okay, I don't know if that's really a thing but you get the drift). read more

I accompanied a 90 year old friend to this pharmacy and when we asked if they had received her doctors phoned in prescription they actually said no and were very busy. My friend politely suggested we check back in later. An hour later we returned. Again they reported no prescription had been phoned in. They wouldn't call Drs office so I did from parking lot where the service worked. When I reached Drs office they confirmed that doctor had personally phoned it in 2 -3 hours before. The receptionist asked to speak to pharmacist. I watched as we walked over to recording device and listened to phone message from Doctor several hours before. This was wrong on so many levels. There wasn't an apology, an explanation, or one kind word to my friend who was simply trying to fill a prescription for an illness. Unbelievable! read more

I rented a wheelchair for the week of my mom's visit from this pharmacy. First, they gave me bad advice, suggesting the transport chair instead of a regular wheel chair for the week, telling me it would be fine for a 250 person. But the chair they gave us had a bolt or something missing from one of the wheels, so the wheel literally FELL OFF while we were using it in a museum (and really was NOT suitable for a heavy person). So I exchanged the chair for a regular wheel chair. THAT chair had a bent front wheel that got progressively worse as we used it. Half way around the Tidal Basin, it gave out, too. It was very embarrassing for my mom and incredibly annoying for my family, putting a real damper on our vacation. read more

After vomiting all last night, I feel I have a civic duty to warn others of this pharmacy! I should have been suspicious the first time I ordered a prescription when they called to say it was ready, then couldn't find any record of it when I arrived to pick it up. Worse, they claimed that my insurance wouldn't allow 3 refills at once, as my doctor ordered, even though that had never been a problem for the pharmacy where I used to live. I soon switched to CVS. Lo and behold, they could ONLY give me 3 refills at once, but since Brookville had sent paperwork suggesting otherwise, it took a couple days, multiple phone calls, and an extra trip to the pharmacy to straighten things out. Since I was overdue, I had to take the first two days' worth of pills at once, causing extreme nausea. As much as I try to support local businesses, this is unfortunately one to AVOID! read more

We have been going to Brookville Pharmacy for many years and love it. The service is very personalized. It is in a neighborhood and they strive to help you find what you want, or offer to order it for you, and it arrives the next day! They can even get compounded prescriptions for you from one of their sister pharmacies and it is delivered to Brookville! Another nicety.....The manager seems to know everyone by name who walks through the door!! The staff is very efficient and friendly. They also have a wide variety of items besides pharmacy items. You can find stationery supplies, mailing supplies, children's books & novels written by neighborhood residents, vitamins, sundries, knee braces etc., greeting cards, candy and so on. I've been here three times, really wanting to favor a locally owned pharmacy over one of the national chains closer to our house. Another reason for selecting them is their website says they do prescription compounding, but when our vet called in a prescription, they said they don't. So, why it is on the website as your speciality? Anyway, we still had other prescriptions sent here and everytime I've been to pick them up, the staff have been indifferent bordering on rude. I recently switched to brookville pharmacy from CVS in my neighborhood. I was tired of CVS' impersonal nature. I had a good experience with Brookville a few years ago and wanted a small neighborhood pharmacy where I would be valued as a customer. Unfortunately that is not what I received. One of the downsides to the small pharmacy is the very limited hours. I would be willing to work around this difficulty if the service was good. Unfortunately I have not been able to pick up my script for days due to my work schedule and the lady who was on the phone with me was extremely rude. She interrupted me frequently, demanded I tell her what prescription I was asking about (there's only one on the system) and was extremely frustrated with me when I gave her incomplete answers. I will not be returning due to the combination of limited hours and expensive and rude services. read more

This pharmacy used to be wonderful because it offered a real personal touch. That was then. Today, the staff could simply care less. The biggest offender is the woman at the register---the gal who takes the prescriptions. She treats clients like they've done something wrong by engaging her. She is surly and downright rude. Recently I dropped of a prescription for my son---I asked to talk to the pharmacist --I wanted to be certain they had it in stock. ( It's a med that is sometimes unavailable.) I asked the surly one if I could speak with the pharmacist---she grabbed the scrip out of my hand and said in a very demeaning tone that she would do it. She came back almost immediately and said---yeah, we have it. That was late on a Friday leading into a three day holiday weekend. I heard nothing from the pharmacy---I returned on Tuesday am to be told that they didn't have it---and they didn't order it because they wanted to talk to me first !!! WHAT ??? Why did they need to talk to me first ??? Clearly I needed it or I wouldn't have requested it in the first place !!! And why didn't they call the number I left them???? They claimed to have called my home phone---there were no messages there. ALL THIS TO SAY----Brookville pharmacy is not the quaint, community pharmacy that it once was. The service is on par with CVS---actually worse. The cashier at Brookville is easy one of the most angry, unpleasant people I've every met. read more

My family has been using Brookville Pharmacy for years. For us, it has remained the neighborhood pharmacy it has been for decades. Scott, the manager, always goes out of his way to find or order what we need. The pharmacist is very helpful, gets in touch with my doctors when I have let a prescription run low (my fault, but he makes it happen) , and resolves insurance problems. Chevy Chase is a high stress area, and I have seen a lot of demanding and impolite customers.Rudeness by employees is not acceptable, of course, and should be dealt with, but we have never experienced any. As for medical equipment, Brookville is a more limited resource than a large medical pharmacy. When my husband needed help after foot surgery I did research before ordering a walker which would work, and I think that is a good way to go. Obviously not everyone agrees, but we still see the personal touch, and that's why we stay with Brookville rather than another source which might save us a bit of money but not be nearly as pleasant. read more
