Outstanding service and fair prices. We come from the UK for regular Lyme Disease appointments in DC and were lucky to discover Tschiffely on our first trip. Medication arrives swiftly and we have never been let down. Steve is just brilliant. read more

All of my experiences with this pharmacy have been really good. It's a little small and old fashioned, but the people there are always super friendly and helpful. In addition, they carry medications that I can't get at some of the local big box pharmacies. There's never a long wait and there is an amazing array of items to browse while you do! read more

I had my first negative experience with Steve, owner and pharmacist. He refused to fill a prescription based on a preconceived notion that the drug could or would be used for an off-label purpose. I listened to a very rude, sanctimonious, soap-box type rant from him before gently letting him know that I understood his concern, but that I was not the proper audience for his opinions and views. Given that the prescription can be filled elsewhere (as it is not for an off-label use), I will remove my business from Tschiffely. Permanently. Pharmacists are not doctors, and Steve seems to have forgotten the distinction. read more

The pharmacist at Tschiffely's today caught an error with the prescription my doctor's office had called in -- excellent catch! In addition, I love coming here instead of CVS: No long lines, personal service, unusual items (luxury bath stuff) in addition to all of the necessities, including homeopathic medicine (a little arnica saved me from a nasty bruise last week). And I definitely like supporting a local business. read more

My doctor at Washington Hospital Center recommended I go to this pharmacy to fill my prescription for a compound. I was told Tschiffely's would easily be able to do it. My initial interaction with sales staff and the Pharmacist/Owner Steve was fine. I waited about 15 minutes while he made the compound. Steve then told me that my insurance carrier was not approving 2 of the 3 medicines needed to make the compound, so my claim was rejected. I had the option to pay the full cash price (which I did) and I could take it up with the carrier. He said the insurance company wasn't recognizing a code he was putting in. I called my insurance carrier's pharmacy help desk. A representative called Steve and explained to him how to put the claim in properly. When I followed up with Steve, he claims their solution wouldn't work because even though it would go through now, he was not getting paid for 2 of the 3 ingredients used to make the compound. He gave me an option of coming back to the pharmacy, and he'd re-ring the sale and only charge me for those 2 ingredients rather than the full cash price I had paid earlier in the day. I called my insurance company back to explain what happened. They said it appeared on their end Steve had already put the transaction back through so 1 ingredient was covered. They did finally tell me the other 2 ingredients would not be approved though. That was fine because I knew I could pay for those separately...or so I thought. Flash forward to today when I returned to the pharmacy and spoke to Steve. Steve proceeded to get angry and berate me in front of other customers because he said an insurance representative had hung up the phone on him. He would no longer help me. When I reminded him that he told me I could return to the store to get the transaction re-rung so I only paid for the 2 "not covered" ingredients, Steve got even angrier. He said because of my inquiry to the insurance company he got audited, and it was a very emotional thing for him. He said, "I'm sorry, but I won't do anything for you." I was flabbergasted. I asked a sales associate if I could have the name and contact information for the store manager or owner, and she quietly looked down and said, "I'm sorry....he's the owner and manager." Bottom line....this pharmacy may help some customers, but it was clear that Steve thinks he may speak to anyone, including customers, however he feels. His problem was obviously with the insurance company, yet the treated me like I did something wrong. I will never go back to Tschiffely Pharmacy, and will do everything I can to make sure my friends and co-workers don't either. I've also called my doctor at Washington Hospital Center to let him know about the horrible customer experience I received there. read more

Stephen Toth, the Pharmacist and owner was extremely rude, abrasive, and unapologetic when my primary care provider transmitted a prescription electronically in error. For some reason, I was on the receiving end of his disdain for their error and I was talked to like a 5 year old child that wasn't following instructions. My provider is in the building and I returned to their office to let them know how unhappy Mr. Steve was. So, the staff from the office returned to the Pharmacy w/me to explain what occurred and they apologized for the error. The employee with the provider asked Mr. Toth to not take the error out on their patient (me). Steve remained firm in his belief that he did nothing wrong and didn't have the moral strength to get past his ego and extend an apology to a loyal customer of three years that has always treated his staff with a great amount of respect. Steve told the staff from my provider's office that I could go to another pharmacy if I didn't like it. It's very unfortunate because his staff are very helpful and probably are the driving factor in this place receiving great reviews from others. So, there is a Pharmacy called Foer's that is only a block away that will provide a great personable service and you wont have to deal with someone so egocentric----in the event a provider transmits an electronic prescription in error that needs to be provided via hard/written copy. It's not always what you say ---- but, how you say it. If you scroll down you'll notice that all the negative reviews involve a negative interaction with Mr. Steve.... It appears that I'm not the only one who has experienced being treated so poorly and not in keeping with the high level of conduct standards expected from someone licensed to dispense medications in the District of Columbia. read more

I had amazingly friendly service at Tschiffely's! The pharmacist went out of his way to do everything he could to help me when prescription hadn't arrived from my doctor in time and he understood how important it was that I had the medication. This was just my second visit and the pharmacist seemed genuinely happy for me when I didn't didn't need a refill of another script... he knew it was good news for me and it was so sweet of him to share that little happiness. He was very knowledgeable about the unique medications I take. The rest of the staff was friendly and helpful and they have a nice selection of cosmetics, including Roger Gallet, which is not super easy to find. read more

I hope this is not repetitive. Steven and David Toth, Pharmacists, sons of the late Dr. Toth are just the finest in their field! Service to the individual client/customer is the priority not only with them but also with their employees, who get to know you and your voice on the telephone. Everyone is helpful, patient and treats each client as a valued customer. Their personal attention to each customer is what is lacking at the bigger "variety" stores. It is always a treat to talk with anyone at Tschiffely Pharmacy, because every employee and the Toths really treats you like you are family! Curt Bell read more

I've been going to this pharmacy for about 30 years. Noticed this branch of Tschiffely's didn't have a review so I thought I'd leave one. Friendly staff who have been there a long time. They've helped me out with kid's prescriptions. Helped me navigate confusing prescription discount deals. Answered my questions. I have always found the prices reasonable. Convenient location in the medical building if you have appointments there. Good personal service that is rare in a big city. read more

I've been to many of the Tschifflely Pharmacies around town but this is by far the best one I've been to. I was greeted right away when I walked in. I dropped off a couple prescriptions and was told it would take a few minutes and that I could browse in the store or have a seat. They have a nice selection of medicines, bath/body products, and other medical things. I found a shampoo that is usually $2 more at CVS. After about 10 minutes my prescriptions were ready. Steve, the pharmacist came over and gave detailed instructions and warnings about each. He even recommended some home remedies for soothing my cold. Cornell the manager was extremely helpful and reminded me to use my flex spending card. I will definitely be fulfilling prescriptions here when I can. read more

My prescriptions will always be filled by Tschiffley from now on. I have used them for over a dozen years taking advantage of their friendly delivery service. But one day, because a multi-service drug store chain was a block from my doctor's office I filled a mild sleeping pill Rx there. What I received was not the ordered dosage. It took over a day to regain a clear head. I'm known to the people at Tschiffley. They greet me by name, are careful and totally professional. My health is too valuable to risk it again. I'll pay a few pennies more for the safety of a real pharmacy. And I recommend that to my friends. read more

These guys are conveniently located near my office. And always very friendly. Sometimes the wait is a little long, but never bad. When my doctor faxes them a prescription I get a call from them promptly! And if there's a problem like they're low on the meds I need, they give me what they have, then I get the rest when it's ready. No complaints whatsoever, and it's so nice to deal with real people in a small business rather than the shenanigans I've gotten from CVS in the past. read more

What a great pharmacy! They go out of their way to be helpful and I really appreciate the service. Highly recommend!

Every prescription is a problem at Tschiffely's. I've never had so many issues with a pharmacy before. I'm changing doctors (to one in Virginia) in part because I just can't stand to deal with this pharmacy any more. First, it is very inconvenient. I live in Arlington, and while they will ship you your prescriptions, it costs a ridiculous $13, and takes 2-4 days to arrive. Parking can be very challenging downtown (especially with their limited weekday hours) but it was usually the best choice. Unfortunately, although I had instructed them not to mail me Rx's, they would often do it anyway, and I'd make the trip there and leave empty handed, then wait three days for the Rx to arrive in the mail. To their credit, the pharmacist would give me an extra pill or two if I was going to run out. There were other problems, but the last straw was when my partner went to pick up an Rx for me, and they really hassled him. Since when can't you pick up an Rx for someone else, especially when they sign for it and produce your insurance debit card? What illicit thing is my partner going to do with thyroid hormone? Usually quite friendly there, but just a pain in the butt, bottom line. read more

Love this store. Pharmacist and staff are always willing to help and it feels like a small neighborhood store in the middle of downtown DC. Great place to support even if just popping in to buy a soda or snack. read more

Great guys! Never ever a problem in five or so years going here, Steve has gone out of his way to help me a few times having my scripts ready and everyone there is nice and easy to work with. It perplexes me that I have yet to review this incredible establishment. After moving from Arkansas to DC in 2016 to attend GW, I was in need of a pharmacy that took Tricare. I first went to the CVS on the GW campus, and was told they did not. I quickly found the next closest pharmacy and called them, which just so happened to be Tschiffeley. I grew up with the same pharmacist, at the same pharmacy from (literally) the time I was born, up until I left for college. It was a small, family-run pharmacy and the owner and I had great rapport - everyone knew me by name and was friendly. Boy am I happy that I stumbled upon Tschiffely by sheer fate. I have had my medications filled there for over four years now and I could not be any happier. I even have the option to receive my medication for free at Walter Reed, but I can't pass up Tschiffeley. The two friendly faces at the front desk are always happy and energetic, greeting me and striking up small-chat about life. Steve, one of the main pharmacists, has personally handled dozens of insurance issues, early refill requests, and is all-around one of the nicest people I have met. When I need a prescription refilled, they are only a quick call away, and within a half an hour I can go to the pharmacy to pick-up (they also have delivery, which while I haven't tried, I am sure it superb). The icing on the cake really is the atmosphere of the pharmacy. It has the old-time feel and personal touch that your local disgruntled CVS pharmacist likely doesn't have. As long as I live in D.C., I will be using Tschifelley, every month, for every prescription. Thank you to the entire Tschifelly team. P.S., they even have walkers, snacks and beverages, hard-to-find candies, and even my favorite eye drops that I wouldn't expect a pharmacy of their size to carry (Lumify). Go to Tschifelley! read more

The most worse establishment I've ever done business with. My 18 yo daughter who is a college student was treated badly by the supposedly owner Steve. My daughter walk away from this establishment in tears. My assumption is that she didn't have the correct insurance for the owners taste. But instead of informing my daughter in a professional matter that he didn't participate with her insurance policy he yelled @ her violently and she left this establishment in tears. I also experience the unprofessionalism from the owner when I tried to resolve the issue with him. Steve hung the phone up on me. I then called back to get cooperate information to file a complaint, I was given Steve again who informed that he was " THE OWNER AND THE MANAGER OF THIS ESTABLISHMENT" and wished not to speak with me any further.I'm so grateful that my daughter is studying political science so that in future young adults are not treated in this manner. I guess you only get friendly service if you have the proper insurance policy, if not your discrimated against. I give this establishment zero stars. read more

I joined Yelp specifically to review this pharmacy. I had been using this pharmacy for approximately one year and the only reason I stuck with them for that long is that my specialist personally knew one of the staffers. -For my second refill, they gave me the wrong prescription (they filled my prescription with pills that were 4x the dose my doctor prescribed) - For my eighth refill, they told me they could not contact my doctor to obtain authorization. I reminded them that I had transferred the prescription to a new doctor. They promised to call the new doctor that day. Five days passed. My prescription was nearly out. I called to ask why my refill had not been shipped to me. They told me they could not reach the old doctor. I again reminded them the prescription was with a new doctor. They promised to call that day. The next day I called my new doctor who said she had not heard from them. Several calls and hours later, I finally obtained my refill. - When it came time to order my most recent refill, I called them a couple of days early, anticipating some shenanigans. They informed me that I needed to call them back on Dec. 31st because my insurance would not authorize the refill until then. I asked them if they could simply refill it on the 31st and they told me they would mark it on their calendar, but that I also had to call them. I repeated "Dec. 31st?" They answered "yes." So, I called Dec. 31st. No one answered. No voicemail picked up to tell me they're closed, let alone when they will be open again. Fed up, I called the local Target to transfer my prescription. Target attempted to call them to obtain the prescription on both Dec. 31st and Jan. 2nd. No answer. I am, once again, almost out of my medication. In summary, this pharmacy is painful to work with and, in my experience, potentially hazardous. Their incompetence has caused me to miss doses and they have actually given me the incorrect dose. read more

I am not normally a consumer who writes online complaints. But my experience at Tschiffely was so unprofessional, I must share this. Last week, I dropped off prescriptions. I didn't expect to have them later the same day, but I asked if they could get one ready for later they said yes. I replied that's fine, and the other is no rush, next week is ok. Well, when I returned to pick up the one I needed, they also had prepared the 2nd. However, I received a horrible public blasting from Dave. My doctor had written my prescription for 140 tablets. I am blessed to have a wonderful employer paid insurance where I am not required to take generic medications, so I don't. So Dave goes on to say that "he searched" his database, and I am the only customer who takes this particular medication in a non generic form. He told me he was only going to give me 120 tablets. I asked what about the remainder? You just owe me the rest? He replied "no, I'm not giving them to you!!" As I looked at him in bewilderment, he said, that it costs him $400 per bottle (100 tabs per bottle) to stock. In order for him to provide me 140 tablets, he would have an opened bottle on his shelf. After he went on and on, saying that "it's economics!!!" etc, I am wondering mentally can he just arbitrarily change the written order of my doctor? Then he says "tell Stephanie" ....this is my doctor's first name. He said for me to tell her that from now on, he is not giving me more than 100 tablets. Then he told me "I mean, I know you, but .....I mean....." as if to imply perhaps I may be selling my prescription or something. So Mr. Dave not only insulted me, but also refused to fill my order as written by my doctor, and referred to my doctor in a disrespectful, unprofessional way. Additionally, he owes me the balance of pills he did not give me as was requested by my doctor. If he did not want to fill my order as written, he should not have filled it at all. He could've just said I don't have this, can't get this, whatever and given it back to me. I would just have taken it somewhere else to be filled. Now, I owe it to myself to complain to the proper authorities so hopefully, no other customer has to experience this. I am totally done with this pharmacy. I was going to go back today to let him know just how insulted I was, but in order to maintain my christian beliefs, it's just better that I send this matter to the authorities. If nothing else, their name will be on blast from me in a proper forum. read more

Tschiffely has gotten a couple things wrong over the past five years I have worked with them, but they always make it right. ALWAYS. I trust Steve to explain things to me, to listen to me and to make sure I have my prescriptions on time. CVS and Riteaid do not boast the same level of customer service. I like being treated like a person, and that is why I will always take my business to Tschiffely Pharmacy. read more

Horrible treatment today from Steve who clearly does not want to deal with Part D medicare prescriptions. I would not recommend ANY medicare patient go to this pharmacy. Steve said, "The insurance companies on Part D medicare never pay even when they say they will pay. You will have to pay all the costs up front -- and you are unlikely to get reimbursed." In fact, after wasting almost an hour at Tschiffely's -- while Steve said that his computer "couldn't talk" to the Silverscript computer -- I left and had the prescription for the skin cream filled at Walgreen in 5 minutes. Cream cost $210 -- my Silverscript insurance paid for half. Yelp should have offered the opportunity to give NO stars at all for Tschiffeley! Steve is rude. He keeps you waiting -- so that I think you won't then bother with the insurance company and just pay him the full amount for prescriptions. Will never go there again. read more

Kind, prompt, knowledgeable. I am grateful for this pharmacy and the people who run it.

If you have a private insurance.. beware! My insurance classify this pharmacy as an Out-of-Network provider.
