The Notice from the California Department of Public Health
    Shirley W.

I am giving this 5 star rating mainly for the pharmacist, Jacqueline! However, I have been going this CVS for my parents the last few years, the staff at this pharmacy are always hardworking, polite and efficient and they certainly deserve 4+ stars. My parents both are in their 90's, start having a lot of health issues. Both have gotten COVID and ended up at the hospitals a few times. Recently, my mom got COVID again. The COVID lasted more than 2 weeks and finally ended up at the hospital for a few days. We have been buying the COVID test kits. One of my sisters told me to find out if there's anyway to get any free test kits since my parents are both Medi Cal recipients. I did some research and found out that, effective July of this year, Medi Cal patients are able to get 8 free COVID test kits every month - at least until September of this year. My guess is the surging COVID! I took the attached Notice from the California Department of Public Health to the Castro Valley CVS Pharmacy Department and spoke to one of the pharmacists. He gave me an attitude and told me that they simply didn't have any in the inventory to give and did not even look at the notice I had. My sister looked up on her computer and did find that there were test kits at their Castro Valley CVS. So, I assume that either the pharmacist did not want to help (more than likely - judging from his angry voice) or their inventory on the computer was wrong. Either way, his attitude was unacceptable since I did nothing wrong and it is his job to act professionally to help, shouldn't this be basic professionalism? I did not give up, I took the attached to this CVS in San Francisco, across the street from my parents' place and showed it to one of the pharmacists, Jacqueline. This time, I even yellow high lighted the relevant sentence so that it would save the pharmacist's time to read - did not want to get "yelled at" again! Surprisingly, Jacqueline was very professional and polite. I could tell that she was quite busy but she was kind enough to take a look at my notice and did some research on her computer. Within a minute, she told me that she checked the insurance and it went through. So she told me that she would need about 10 minutes to get both my parents 8 test kits each. Jacqueline was not only helpful, she acted professionally and efficiently. I got the test kits in 10 minutes. It was like day and night when compare her with the pharmacist at the Castro Valley CVS!

Review for the online order pickup. Since I was going to be in the area, I place an online order for pickup at this store. Though they have a parking lot at the corner of Arguello and Geary, I was able to find a parking space out front. They had a worker standing near the entrance and I asked him about online pickups and he directed me to the cashier's line. There was no one in line with one person at the cashiers. After a brief wait, I gave my name to the cashier for my pickup order and he retrieved it from the shelf and handed it to me and I was on my way. The online order process and pickup from the store was smooth and easy.

The pharmacists are great! They really care about their clients and take the time to explain the medications.

Five stars. Yup. (It's been a while since I have had to get loud with them.)…read more The other day I went to Kaiser taking care of several diagnostics over the course of several hours. There were a lot of people there, so the wait was longer than usual, which really is of no consequence or influence other than to remind me how pleased I am with quality of care I have over the years from Kaiser. I'm not saying the relationship has pain free, but it has become beneficial and manageable to date. My new doctor is cool, and the staff is quite pleasant. Hoping my health stays happy.

When I arrived, I was told one prescription was ready but another was not. No one informed me there was an issue. No one told me there would be a delay. No one gave me an estimated wait time. I was simply left sitting there. After waiting, I asked about my Tramadol prescription and was told the pharmacist needed to speak with me. What followed was one of the most dismissive, condescending, and unprofessional interactions I have ever had in a healthcare setting. The pharmacist attempted to explain that there was an issue involving my Tramadol and Flexeril prescriptions and that additional information was needed from my doctor. My question was simple: Why wasn't I told this sooner, and how long was this going to take? Instead of addressing those questions, I was repeatedly told to "take it up with my doctor." At no point did the pharmacist acknowledge that I had already been sitting there waiting. At no point did he apologize for the lack of communication. At no point did he show even the slightest amount of empathy, respect, or concern. What made the interaction even more frustrating was the attitude. I was spoken to in a manner that felt patronizing and dismissive, as though asking questions about my own medication was somehow unreasonable. Rather than helping me understand what was happening, the pharmacist seemed far more interested in deflecting responsibility and ending the conversation. Let me be clear: the issue is not that a prescription required clarification. The issue is that I was left sitting in a waiting room for over an hour without answers and then treated with disrespect when I asked legitimate questions. Healthcare is stressful enough without patients being made to feel like an inconvenience. A pharmacist's job is not only to understand medication. It is also to communicate with patients professionally. Based on my experience today, that standard was not met. I left feeling embarrassed, disrespected, ignored, and completely disappointed by the level of customer service I received. I've been a patient at Kaiser my entire life except for some brief time I changed jobs and the continuous lack of respect and effective communication has always been a huge factor in why I believe that a few bad apples have begun to spoil the entire bunch! DO BETTER KAISER!
