I just had my prescription filled at CVS on Hyde Street. The pharmacy staff member at the cash register was very calm and patient with everyone even though the line started to get long during the lunch hour. She was really pleasant to deal with (every time). The pharmacist was good about speaking with me about generic versus brand name for my medication. Very patient! The heeded my preference for the brand name and filled the order promptly when my original prescription slip had stated brand or generic. This CVS Pharmacy is outstanding! The prescription steps were clear. I called in for refill. CVS texted me when my refill was ready for pick up. I went to the pharmacy cashier with the QR code then got my medication. Doing this job day-in-day out and dealing with impatient people on medication situations (refills, orders that not have been transmitted by doctors, insurance coverage of meds or not): the pharmacists and staff deserve a medal! With some stores closing down, we need this CVS in the neighborhood. Let's be nicer to staff, be patient and grateful they are here. read more

I called to speak to the pharmacy to ask when I could pick up a prescription for my daughter. The virtual assistant kept asking for my date of birth to connect me to the pharmacy. I gave it my daughter's date of birth and the virtual assistant said that date was not connected with the number I was calling from! WTH? It kept saying my account had to be verified to connect me to the pharmacy! I could not get through to the pharmacy so will have to drive all the way there. My daughter is on vacation so she asked me to pick up her prescription but I can't even get connected to the pharmacy by telephone. So ridiculous!! read more

I do not recommend this place for passport photos. Despite advertising a one-hour service online, it took four hours to complete my order. Furthermore, they did not print the photos to passport specifications, providing only 5x7 glossy prints instead. If you're saying "oh you should prepare it sooner instead of bla bla" I did, I drove 5 hours to get here for passport renewal, unfortunately my bag got stolen while I am walking to the building. Yet I don't want to spend another $17 for 2 photo shoots. So I chose printed the picture I had in my email, for only $5. But waiting 4 hours to get it printed in a wrong way is too much. At least aware me that this location don't prepare passport photo (Online website sure have this option) when I am about to pay. Or just simply, took the passport option off your location for photo printing. This location failed me deeply. read more

Currently in line and have been for 20 minutes to pickup a prescription. Nowhere near the front. Every time I'm here there's only one person working and a massive line. It's not the employee's fault, it's the store. They don't staff well. They have a mobile app line that I actually can use, but they need to get rid of it. If you only have 1 person working it is crappy to have it. It just makes everyone else wait longer. Either ditch it or get enough people working to cover it. Horrible store. I know this is petty, but sometimes I am petty. For the first time, I ordered something for pickup. I saw that there would be a temporary bag charge that would be refunded if I brought my own bag. I brought my bag, no refund. That caused me to research my other options, say at Costco for the same item. I found double the amount for less than half the cost. My eye is always on the bottom line. If you hadn't charged me for the dang bag that I never got, I never would have researched Costco. read more

This CVS is located next to Trader joes, which can be difficult to deal with. Parking can be a hassle during commute time and there tends to be a lot of "traffic" inside. Another issue I have with this specific location is that because it's right next to Trader joes and it's on Nob Hill, the prices are much higher. read more

Every time I go to trader joes I think to myself "Oh, I'll just pop into CVS to get something", and it's never worth it. The store is dingy inside, the employees are never helpful, and the items are never fully stocked or some items are just missing completely. Also, unlike Walgreens (which I will now only be visiting instead of CVS), you have to get a physical card to get the CVS discounts, instead of just signing up with your phone number like every other store I have been to. Witnessed a couple of thieves brazenly walk out of the CVS store at 1059 Hyde St. this morning about 9am, carrying a huge amount of merchandise. They were followed by ONE employee, and she yelled at them to stop, but to no avail. No security guard to be seen. All the people in the parking lot witnessing this were in shock as the thieves casually walked to their waiting getaway car, telling people to "mind their bidness". One tall AA male, about 40 y/o, a shorter chubby white or Hispanic male, about 35 y/o, and White woman about 50 y/o, with scraggly yellowish hair and druggy appearance, who was the driver. I am finding it harder and harder to defend how my home city allows this kind of behavior, and WHY the mayor and police continue to tolerate it! Daniel has a habit of not taking responsibility for his duties and gaslighting the customer to make them feel like *they* are the problem. For example, on a full-priced item that was supposed to be marked as "on sale", he claimed that the coupon for items not on sale was being misused. (He actually did that the day before; only another clerk marked the full-priced item as "on sale" after mentioning this experience to her). When asked about a vat of ice cream packets without a price marked, he just said "I don't know"--then made up a price after that question. He tries to question customers about chosen purchases as if they 'don't really' want an item (it doesn't escape my notice that he wants the customer to pay more money for less of a discount on the coupon). read more

Oh goodness where should I start? This place is by my gym and I get tricked by the convenience of it and pop in all the time. It's the worst run business I've ever encountered. My 5 year old niece shows more professionalism with her lemonade stand than the place running this CVS. This place is a flat out disaster and a monument to the power of the pharmaceutical industry. I'm not even trying to get political but if pharmaceutical drugs weren't so profitable this place would not be able to operate. One of the first things you notice when you walk in is the complete lack of staff. It feels like the place is closed and they forgot to turn iff the automatic doors. It's impossible to find employees in the store to help with anything or even help you check out. They have self checkout that malfunctions ~63% of the time and not a single sole in the front half of the store to help you so you just stand there for minutes with a lady robot voice endlessly repeating, "Please wait. Help is on the way." Pro tip. If you're looking for employees to help they're typically outside smoking in the front of the building. I do have to say I'm impressed by their selective hearing and ability to avoid eye contact. Also every single item in this store is 50-200% more expensive than Amazon. The pharmacy. My god. CVS texts me at least 8 times a week about refills of medications I don't even take regularly. Like chill CVS, I don't need sixty reminders that the antibiotic I took 8 months ago for bronchitis is out of refills. They're just constantly blowing me up to visit their drug dealers. But then you get there and they act personally offended that you exist. They ignore you and never make eye contact and act like you're ruining their life for trying to get your asthma inhaler. Long story short. Just don't go to this place even if it means you're going to die. It's better to die in peace with dignity and a couple bucks in your pocket than being degraded and robbed by these monsters. read more

There is 0 way the phones are actually plugged in at the pharmacy. I like to call before coming to pick up my prescription because it is usually not ready, even if my doctor sent it in a week ago, so I end up having to come back the next day anyway. That is an issue on its own, but the fact they NEVER answer the phone is so frustrating! It makes picking up my medication such a frustrating long process. The thing I do not understand is every time I end up coming in since no one was picking up, there is no line of customers and at least two people working there. It would almost be comedic about how horrible the customer service experience is if it was not having to do with healthcare and medication. read more

Go in-person and you'll be greeted with an hour long line just for them to tell you they don't have your prescription and to come back everyday to check. Your time has no value to them. Try and call and they'll never answer. Not even sure if the phone is plugged in. This place is terrible and does a disservice to the community by existing. We'd be better with another Walgreens. Three years ago, I gave this store five stars mostly on the merits of the logistics. Well, my recent experiences compelled me to seek a sixth star in appreciation for their above and beyond service. CVS' discount and loyalty coupons lead me to buy a couple of pricy products that often can't be found on shelves here or other stores in the City. Geno (pronounced Jen-O) has repeatedly helped me order them and, on top, notify me when they arrive. To me, this shows her passion in caring for a customer's needs. Sometimes they aren't available and she'll apologetically tell me. Recently, she took down the specifics of a particular product I sought and told me she'd check on it's availability. I look forward to this location reopening. I have always had good experiences at their pharmacy. I had my flu shot and shingles booster here in 2019. I was very appreciative of how smoothly it went The pharmacists know what they're doing. Since this place is on Hyde and California in a very densely populated area of the city, it's busy. It seems like many of the concerns people have involve insurance verifications. That's just a fact of life in our current healthcare in the US. They look to see if your insurance can pay for it rather than charging you. My main problem is that the shelf prices here are very expensive. I'd like to support them by purchasing more sundries here. They have lots of complicated coupons and offers and clubs where you can probably get a similar price to other places, but wading through that does make me look elsewhere for stuff on the shelf. read more

She has instilled all these new rules that only are for this location, like having a diagnosis code to get medicine! Like, is she a doctor? NO. Did she go to X years of school practicing? NO. I am a somewhat regular customer at this CVS store. Most of the cashiers and clerks are grumpy and treats me like a dog, "in a mean way". But the staffs at the pharmacy are nice and treat me like Joe Cool, "in a charming way". I generally avoid shopping at the actual store, because of the behavior from the weird staff. And most of the times the store is half empty with shit I need are never there. I have been to the pharmacy, located in the back, a handful of times to get my prescribed narcotics. And the staffs are nicer and find me witty and funny. They are also helpful in my needs when I am a sick dog too. This CVS location is my pharmacy simply due to proximity but recent experiences have left me thinking I need to re-evaluate. In picking up a new prescription, the pharmacist just restated what was printed on the bottle, providing no additional insight. And when I tried to get a flu shot (with appointment) I was told my insurance wouldn't cover it and I'd have get my shot from my doctor. The next day, I made an appointment at a nearby Walgreens - where I don't regularly fill my prescriptions - and they were able to give me my shot, fully covered by my insurance. read more

11/2/15 I usually don't review retails but I cannot resist on this one. I'm amazed how many CVS stores are popping up all over the city to compete with Walgreens and yet the store pretty much runs out of everything. This store on Hyde next to Trader Joe is one of the worst besides the one in Downtown Oakland/19th Street. Travel-size section is pretty much empty, sold out of everything, with half the shelves empty. Pet section is sorry. They don't even have pet wipes. On the last visit they didn't have---listen to this---a single box of Klennex. This store is a joke. It's a far cry from Walgreens, more like a discount store on the verge of going out of business. The carpet is dirty. There's no one around to help you. The only acknowledgement from any staff is this register clerk saying "I'm closed" with no greetings. "You might as well close the store down" I replied to his blunt remark. Never again. I'll walk the extra blocks to Walgreens. I'm mortified how bad the service is at CVS stores. There were only 2 of your employees working and the checkout line was a 20+ minute wait while another customer needed help at an aisle. That customer berated your employee! I felt bad.
