Nice people! Basic corner store, dogs are to stay outside. I always tie the leash on the door! They have my favorite flavor of celcius cherry coke! read more

The folks here are always friendly. I don't shop there often but it is my go-to for last minute items I need (produce, recipe ingredients, wine etc) rather than trekking it back to a larger grocery store. The store is decent sized, clean and organized. Prices are higher than big grocery stores but that is expected of a convenience grocery store. They're not a big corporation selling at large scales. read more

I feel like these guys are ripoff tight wad scammers. I bought produce from them and it got moldy almost instantly. I bought the produce on a Tues and I took it back to them on Thursday, showing them the mold. They wouldn't refund my money - they told me "all produce sales are final and how do we know that produce isn't from someone else?" RIPOFF. Stay Away! read more

I have to call the following - Better Business Bureau - California Tax Board is going to be hearing about this location. - Sanitation (deliveries going to the garbage area) Horrendous Customer Service Fees for paying with a debit or credit card Racists Selling expired goods at a premium Illegal business practices Paying employees in cash (Rumor) No Service Dog policy The next time you want to be rude to someone, just know that someone might know someone in high places. Not just the Jews that own the property. Businesses like this can't keep existing. People need to speak up to agencies of authority and explain what's going on. These people forget that if we stop shopping there, they close shop. Use your power people. Cashier should've never followed me around when all I was trying to do is buy a drink. read more

I am incredibly disappointed with the staff (business owner of this place). I've just moved to the area and could be a great customer but will make sure to never enter this place again. I asked for one piece of information about the Amazon locker they have in their establishment. The owner was incredibly rude. Refused me to give me any information cause I was not buying anything. Maybe this is normal behaviour for her, but I've never seen treating (potential) customers this way in San Francisco. This won't help you long term Jackie K. Do not support this business, people read more

DO YOUR OWN MATH AT CHECKOUT! Make sure you are being charged the correct amount. I've been to this market a few times out of necessity/convenience and each time the woman at check out has added $15-20, essentially made up an inflated price, hoping I wouldn't notice. When Ive asked her to show the itemized list to me, she has pretended like she just made a mistake then adjusted the price down to what it should have been, only cause she'd been caught trying to swindle me. No apology. As I was leaving after this last experience, a woman who had been in line in front of me came back in to the store after leaving asking about being overcharged. This type of dishonest business does not deserve support. read more

Classic corner market with a great selection! Always seems to have what I need so what more can you ask for. Very surprised at comments regarding the rude owner as I've always had a great experience here and the customer service actually stands out when I think of this spot. read more

I have a trained legit service dog for a medical condition and the checkout woman told me next time she cannot come in and I had to explain to her it is illegal to not allow a service dog in and she did not seem to understand- let's learn the laws store so you don't cause issues for people who already have issues which requires them to have a service dog :( read more

A really well run corner store with a great variety and friendly people. They are small, but they are mighty.

Searchlight Market - Big Ol' Anchor Steam only $3.59 - Grocery Near Me - San Francisco, California

This place is super overpriced even for Russian hill and doesn't include price stickers on the items so you don't even know what price gouging you're in for til you get to the til. Walk the extra blocks to real foods for quality for your money. Also closes earlier than times listed online and on the door. read more

Incredibly disappointed that I was denied entrance with my service dog who had his service vest on and unobstructed and I had his badge and paperwork with me. Even after politely saying after I was stopped (which I technically don't have to) that he is a service dog, and I have his paperwork the clerk just kept shaking his head NO, telling me to leave. This is literally illegal: you can not deny access to someone due to their disability. I was following every protocol that we do when I go anywhere, through TSA, to restaurants etc. It's humiliating and downright illegal to discriminate like that. If you can't be welcoming to EVERYONE, don't open a business. read more

So I don't really have a rating for this thing and I just needed to add personally working retail myself when I was younger I hate that policy the customer is always right because I guarantee you they're not and oftentimes when they're all pissed off it's it's because they literally do not just open their eyes and see that there's something going on besides themselves And remember we remember 30% of the good times and 70% of the negative that's obviously an approximation , not my approximation the stats people . Well whatever I was bored looking for 24 hours Safeway read more

One thing I liked about searchlight is that they were open earlier (7:30 am) than a lot of the nearby stores that had produce. And the fact that the nice lady behind the counter helped me tie my bags better in preparation for the long trek back to the hotel. However the Produce was not on point. Bananas were soft. Grapes were bruised, some smashed, some had "fuzz" on them, strawberries were bruised some smashed. I walked a mile almost all uphill to get to this place and to get there to only have access to the subpar fruit was disappointing. I'm sure it was a fluke and the produce is usually better. read more

I love the friendly convenience of this neighborhood market! This store is small, yet mighty with all the right things in stock and their beer selection is over-the-top for such a compact business. The store staff is always friendly and willing and they even respond to requests for stock items. Especially now, during CoVid times, the need for this neighborhood gem is appreciated and valued by so many living and visiting Russian Hill. read more

This morning i had an awful experience here. As i was paying at the cash the cashier asked me to open my hand bag to check it !!! Very disgusting !!! I am going to talk to the manager as soon as possible and i am not going to shop from here anymore. read more

Great staff! Super friendly and sensitive to your needs. I find myself stopping in just to say Hi! because of the friendliness. Good selection of all the basics. read more

I have come here pretty frequently since moving to SF. I will admit my first time in I did freak out over the high prices- but I have to remind myself these store owners are just as subject to high rent as the rest of us. They gotta make a profit too! For a corner market, I'm actually pretty impressed with their selection...down to the gluten free cookies! They really have everything one would need to make a pretty decent home cooked meal- produce, grains, bread, some packaged meat like sausage. Good quality stuff too! Not just ritz crackers, Campbell soup, and dusty condoms like a typical corner market lol. I read a lot of reviews about the bad attitude but I've personally never experienced it. In fact, everyone there has been really nice! Maybe it's the Asian camaraderie we've got going on?? Who knows. read more

The people here are very sweet and go out of their way to order unusual products that neighbors request. For example, someone requested a unique soft drink from Austria called Almdudler. Its like a European version of Sarsaparilla. There are other unique items by request from Korea to the UK, Pretty cool and manager Oscar does his research. FYI this is one of few women owned businesses on Russian Hill. Thank you, Jackie! read more

I was working across the street and stopped in for a cold drink (hot today). Saw the sandwiches and figured why not. $6.29 for a premade sammie is steep but they still looked good at 1:30 PM. Turkey avocado on sprouted wheat bread with lettuce (crunchy), sprouts, red bell peppers, and mayo. Couldn't taste any mustard or salt and pepper. Good selection of grocery items including alcohol. Clean. They do have a veggie only sandwich. read more

They deserve less than a star. They are anti dogs. I asked them politely if I could bring my dog in and the said no and that was okay. I tied her up outside and asked why they were anti-dog. I went to ring up and they refused to serve me cuz I asked why they don't like dogs. Not friendly. Completely rude. I ask that you don't give them your business. Whether your dog is a pet/service dog/emotional support dog.. they won't let you in. read more

This market is more than 2X the price of Le Beau (which is down the street) and has 0 customer service.

I have frequented this market for over a year now, and am very grateful it is across the street from me! The people are very nice, and they have an incredible selection for a little corner store. Yes it is expensive, but considering the businesses that close all the time in this area due to not making rent, their prices make sense. I would not recommend grocery shopping here, but if you are ever in need of something in a crunch or are willing to pay for the convenience, then searchlight is 100% worth it! read more

One of the employees in this store brings new meaning to the word stupidity. While I think it is unkind to insult the less intelligent, it is fine to berate the unintelligent and rude. I was recently shopping in this store and I am forced to dock its only star. After ringing up approximately twenty five dollars in groceries, probably an apple and a box of cookies at this extortionist haunt, I noticed that I forgot to get milk. I quickly made my way to the back and grabbed a gallon of milk, when I was told by the idiot Searchlight that there was a ten dollar minimum for credit card transactions. I didn't want anything else, so I asked him to make an exception considering I had just made a purchase. He demurred and told me that he would have to ring my milk up for ten dollars, owing to their policy. I was not about to pay ten dollars for a carton of milk, so I again asked him to make an exception, considering that I am a frequent customer. Again, he refused. Angry, I told him to refund my groceries that I had just purchased and rering the entire transaction. He refused to do this and told me that he did not know how to do that. Really Searchlight? He was clearly not that idiotic and merely being a jerk, so I insisted. He told me that I would have to return the next day to return the groceries and speak to the owner. Heck no, I proclaimed. You can call the owner with dispatch. He called the owner, who told him to refund my groceries He was able to refund the transaction, which is odd considering he told me he didn't know how to. What a quick learner! I asked him to rering the transaction, I was hungry, and he looked at me with confusion. So much trouble to save five dollars and prove a point? While I will not detail the verbal exchange that took place between me and said idiot, I will say, that next time I will starve before shopping here. I now hike four blocks and over an enormous hill to get my convenient groceries to avoid patronizing this establishment. Is everyone who works in this store devoid of the capacity for independent thought? Dictatorship of the proletariat. I think not. Marx was a fool. Look at the fate of the Soviet Union. Capitalism prevails, idiots can work at Searchlight. read more

Just lucked into this shop while walking around the neighborhood & man - what a treat of a store! All kinds of basic groceries & this place is extremely well-stocked for being so small. You'll find the general, run-of-the-mill staples to help tide you over until a big-box grocery store run & for the convenience & selection, they're A-OK in my book Wine, beer, cheese selection, boxed foods, pasta / sauces, chips, as well as fresh produce & let me just say their grapefruits were EXCEPTIONALLY delish! This is exactly what I envision when I think of a neighborhood corner store read more

I left so frustrated at the staff. They were incredibly rude and I will most certainly never go there again. I don't even really do reviews online. I needed their behavior registered somewhere. Looking at the other reviews, I wasn't alone in leaving that shop in a far worse mood than I went in. read more

This place is hands down THE WORST convenience store in San Francisco. I understand why small mom and pop shops have to mark up their prices but the prices here are absolutely outrageous relevant to similar stores. Additionally, their $10 credit card minimum is not only obnoxious it's illegal... The owner should be embarrassed. I live on the block and will NEVER shop at this store again. There are plenty of reasonable stores just blocks away on Polk where I'll be bringing my business. I encourage anyone else reading this post to do the same unless you enjoy getting ripped off. read more

While I stayed in SF, I went to the store a couple of times for groceries and wines. I was a pleasantly surprised by the selections of wines and very friendly staffs. I'll definitely go back to this corner store whenever I stay in SF^^ read more

I live a block away from Searchlight Market. While it's wonderful to have such a great store so close by, it's the owner, and staff, that make the experience so quintessentially "neighborhood". Months ago, I bought some excellent, locally-sourced, kimchi there. The owner had just that day started to stock the brand, so was happy to see it selling. Now, if I stop in and she is there, she always brings up kimchi. This morning, there was no kimchi. A Monday, after all, and she apologized. And, asked me why, as an older "white" guy, I liked kimchi. An interesting conversation ensued. That's why I love local businesses, and will continue to support them. read more

This is what I would like my corner store to be. After a million-calorie feast at Ghirardelli Square, what better way to work off the energy than to climb Russian Hill? Along the way, as we became a little thirsty, we stopped in at the Searchlight Market. It was clean, spacious, and well lit. The clerk was courteous. In the back they had real champagnes (Veuve Clicquot, Jouet Perrier, Moet Chandon the original), Brianna's salad dressings, Ceres fruit juices, coffee beans with a grinder, fresh vegetables, gummi bears, baguettes of bread, and much more. Looking over the prices, I found them to be comparable to any supermarket, so I don't know why some other reviewers had complaints about that. We were on Russian Hill, not the TL. If I lived here, I wouldn't bother to go down the hill to Safeway or Cala. This would be it. read more

After reading some of these reviews I can't help but write a review myself. For a small business (corner store) they have a great selection of basics. Remember this isn't suppose to be a super market - If you want low quality and a large variety go to Safeway. As for customer service, they're extremely nice and welcoming. Then again I do treat them with respect and kindness. If I can't find something I ask nicely and they are incredibly helpful. In fact, today I went in for tea and tissues because of a cold and the owner was caring enough to provide holistic suggestions on how to how to help a cold/sore throat. Thanks searchlight!! read more

I can't say that I disagree about the prices....it is not cheap, but hear me out... I have lived in SF for a few years now, and have had my share of worthless corner stores. Some of my frequent complaints include 1) variable pricing, depending on their mood, 2) inability to go to said corner store and put together a dinner other than mac and cheese with mini sausages from a can, and 3) extreme attitude problems bordering on the psychotic. And here's the worst part: their prices are not that much better! You are still getting screwed to the tune of $2.50 for a hangover-curing Gatorade and $7.99 for a six pack. That's where Searchlight comes in. Again, it's more expensive, but what do you expect?? You are in Russian Hill in San Francisco and are walking 100 feet from your house to buy a six pack! If you want to pay BevMo prices, stop being lazy and go to BevMo. And I defy you to find a corner store in the city with a better selection. The place is clean, they are friendly, and they have things like fresh meat, and veggies that most sh*tholes don't have. Bottom line: you pay more, but at least you get more. I will happily continue to pay an extra $1 to get beer here and do so with a smile. Vive le Searchlight. read more

The prices here are UNBELIEVABLE. I just paid more than I've paid anywhere in San Francisco for a kombucha- $6. Just avoid this place if you can! read more

I think the only good thing about this place is the nice people working there. + Employees + Relatively clean - It's expensive. Very expensive. - They have very limited selection of items and are missing many basic things. - Hard to find what you are looking for. Always friendly, always clean, and always has my favorite Ben and Jerry's. It's the go to store for all my last minute needs. Here is the deal. I give this market mad reviews because it is the only decent place to find what you need in a pinch in all of Russian hill. You definitely don't want to do all your grocery shopping here because it is way over priced. But if you're ever in need of maple syrup, wine, bread crumbs or fresh flowers-this is your place. You've just been yelped in. read more

If you are in a bind and need a little fresh produce or beer this place is convenient so you don't have to trek down the hill to Polk. However it's so expensive that the extra blocks might be worth it. My gatorade and can of soup came out to almost $8 the other day, which seemed near impossible to me. Also that $10 minimum for CC purchases gets me every time. BOO. Two stars for having produce and a nice sausage selection, then one more for its nice location for those living near Searchlight. read more

Best corner store in the neighborhood. These guys are always friendly, and the quality of the store, its produce, and its selection of other products simply can't be beat. Prices are higher than at a grocery store, but when I am in a bind and only need a few eggs on a Saturday morning, I'm happy to pay a bit extra knowing that I can always rely on Searchlight to have what I need, when I need it. Compare the quality and service of this place to Top of the Hill Market, just up the street, and you'll see what I mean, Searchlight is the best in Russian Hill! read more
