There is entirely too much merchandise locked up behind glass. When you press the customer help button, you can be waiting five or more minutes for an employee to show up. Three times I just left after waiting too long and went to a nearby Walgreens or--more often--just ordered what I wanted from Amazon. Tonight, I waited five minutes after pushing the assistance button three times. I was actually on my way out of the area when an employee finally showed up. Another 10 seconds and they would have lost another sale.
The "security" here is a joke. I'm rarely in here when a homeless person doesn't brazenly cart out a basket full of items. It infuriates me that nothing is done about that.
They've gotten on my last nerve with the self-checkout kiosks. The damn things are forever asking you to:
*"place your item in the bagging area" after you've already done that
*"please enter the number of CVS bags" when you're using your own bag and have already put it in the bagging area
*"please wait for assistance" when you don't need any--freezing the machine in the process so you can't continue scanning until a staff member shows up to override the machine.
Tonight, the self-checkout wouldn't scan my coupons. I had to wait for an employee to come over. Then, after I'd already scanned both of my items, the machine claimed I had only scanned one. We re-scanned that, but then the employee had to attempt to scan my first coupon four times--resetting the machine between each attempt--before the kiosk accepted the coupon. I said to her, "You all are constantly telling folks standing in line for a live cashier to use these machines, and this is exactly why people don't like using self-checkout. This is PRECISELY the reason why."
She didn't answer. She proceeded to try scanning my second coupon, once again engaging in an even more protracted cyclical battle with the machine. Between waiting for someone to unlock the kiosk downstairs, the lack of manned cashiers, and the bozo machines, I'd had enough. I removed my items from the bag and left, not even bothering to take my coupon. I don't have time for this circus. This supposedly convenient "consumer value store" is anything but, and they've seen the last of me. Since every other conveniently located Walgreens and CVS in the area has closed, I just came home and ordered the items on Amazon. read more
