I can try to take an Educated Guess

Who discovered California ? Exploring California street in San Francisco from the avenues to the FiDi can be quite the adventure. Over 5 miles of California street connecting with lots of major streets throughout San Francisco. I do enjoy doing a pit stop at a hidden treasure along California and Hyde street. Trader Joe's is one of the earliest ones to open in San Francisco. Inside there are lots of drinks and a food selection you can explore. You will find frozen foods, fruits , ice cream , and wine. There are also free samples of food inside and they also have events like the Hoison sauce recipe contest. The traditional Hawaiian shirts are worn by the employees which gives this place a relaxing shopping vibe. It puts me in a good state of mind . So who discovered California ? The answer is Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo discovered present-day state of California in 1542. Come slide and go inside and find good food that is raw and some food that needs to be fried This San Francisco Trader Joe's space is wide with a good vibe that doesn't hide located on the streets of California and Hyde

I was too overjoyed to catch the frozen section staff's name. I overheard someone saying she got the last black sesame mochi dessert. I was about 1 feet away. I love black sesame. My friend said to ask their staff if there were more inside. I asked, and the staff went inside and came back with a big cardboard tray!. That made my day. Thank you female staff on Saturday 7/26/25 around 5:30 pm. Appreciate you. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't get to taste this delightful treat!

It's a fantastic supermarket that has a lot of organic items, really good for fresh produce, meats, and really nice snacks in general. They're big advocates of sustainability. Although there was a line separate for hand carts as well as push carts, the line went super quickly despite what it looked. The ambiance in general smells of sustainability and wanting to produce organic items. In general, I find that the quality of their products is much better than like Costco or even Target. They have a lot of food options for people who don't know how to cook, especially in preheat items or microwavable food. There is a very easily accessible downstairs parking area, and across the street, there are a lot of food options as well as a really popular thrift store. The neighborhood in general is super safe because it's not uphill, so it's near Pacific Heights and a pretty rich area.

I agree with the 3.5 stars. I love TJs but this one is not the best. It mostly has what I want but it also has a bunch of customers that just stand there chatting or staring indecisively. Maybe this location is the TJs version of Dateway? Or maybe it's for people who want an experience while grocery shopping rather than to just get it over with? Usually for me the experience at this TJs is waiting...waiting for a parking spot, waiting for people to get out of my way, and then waiting in line. However, every now and then there is actually an experience here which I think is absolutely worthwhile and makes grocery shopping less of a chore. Check out the Ferrari and pet duck in the parking lot...Fab! This is after all a TJs in San Francisco. I love San Francisco!!

Of course I had to stop at TJs while on vacation. The layout of this store was different than the others I have been too and had much more space. Got the cute state bag too!

Most Trader Joe's that l've come across are located in the suburbs or in the city. This one was down the street from Nob Hill in a cute neighborhood of San Francisco. Summer is definitely a hot month, but during the evenings near The Bay can get quite chilly and windy. There were also lots of flowers out store front, end-aisle displays of everything and anything perfect for a BBQ. Picking up few groceries was mainly the purpose of this visit. From snacks to coffee to basically anything you might have forgotten in your toiletry bag or restock some items back home. Price is always right, service from all clerks and cashiers are very consistent whenever you visit any Trader Joe's in any state. It was almost store closing time, kind of busy as I normally would visit during the after work hours. It could have been that rush before everyone heads back home from work. Cashier was super quick and friendly, store is well kept and organized, I love the building decorations as it had a lot of San Fran all over the walls. The hardest part was heading back to the hotel at the top of Nob Hill.

Going to Trader Joe's is one of my regular routines to keep me mentally sane. I use to get a little frustrated when they move things around or stop carrying certain items. I've gotten use to it and now I say it is not so bad. Even when they running out of stock I know they are trying their hardest to keep it in stock. And this is ok with me. Compare to the other things and people that I have deal with in my actual life they are doing a great job. I never had a bad experience at the checkout line. I don't know what people are talking about. In fact, I find it rather enjoyable and too quick. Then I can't wait till I'm at home cooking, eating, and drinking something delicious. Not only was I a Trader Joe's fan I always wanted to invest Trader Joe's. One of my biggest disappointment was when I found out they were a privately owned company. I'm more than sure I would have 10x my amount by now. Oh well, I just have to settle for just shopping there and being poor. I have a checklist on my phone to remind me of all the things I need that I check and check off. It is a list of single items and groups of items. Single items would be like eggs, cheese, wine, beer, etc. Groups of items would be like ingredients for pizza, ingredients for vegetables medley, ingredients for salad; then I sub-list all the items in the notes. Hope this is helpful. I wish you good shopping.

We were just visiting but we happened to find a Trader Joe's down the hill from our hotel. It was so nice to get OJ and Fresh pressed Red Juice without the huge hotel mark up. Plus, we got some steps in as well. My husband was able to get his beets and I was able to get some bubbly before heading back to our hotel. It's so nice to have a TJs nearby when we were traveling.

Does this location have the weekly raffle for a $25 TJ's gift card for spending $25+ and bringing in your own bags? Or knocks off $0.05 for every bag you bring?

Has anyone tried the jarred refrigerated horseradish? If so how does it taste--Is it concentrated or diluted? Good stuff but they don't carry coco flour ....gotta run down to rainbow

It's good. Diluted.

Is This is where the Previous Cala market was?

Yep, it replaced Cala Foods.

Actually, I hardly ever go to Safeway anymore. Shelves are always well stocked, store is very clean, and just a pleasant place to shop at. I've never tried the food at the self-serve buffet, but it usually looks pretty fresh. I like that it's never too crowded here, so you can maneuver your way around the aisles easily.

In one incident over a year ago, another customer verbally harassed me and threatened physical harm while I was shopping. Her child was left unattended and was knocking items over, which I reported to security. The guard failed to do his job and did not intervene appropriately. When a supervisor arrived, the situation was handled much more professionally. I should feel safe shopping in my local market. That guard no longer works there, but the experience was upsetting and difficult to move past. Unfortunately, in January 2026, I encountered similar issues with a new security guard. He has repeatedly followed me around the store without cause. Most recently, he approached me unnecessarily, stood uncomfortably close, and spoke to me in an intrusive manner while I was selecting items. His behavior showed poor training and a lack of respect for personal boundaries. These repeated experiences with security staff are negatively affecting the atmosphere at Woodlands. I am a respectful, regular customer and do not want to feel uncomfortable or monitored without cause when shopping. Proper security training and professionalism are essential for customer safety and trust.

Some things are definitely more than you'll pay elsewhere (most of the crackers for example). Pasta and canned goods prices were okay; in general maybe a bit higher than some places but not too much so. For vegetables, they do have some nice deals and stuff you may not find elsewhere (heirloom tomatoes, early girl tomatoes, variety of fruit and different vegetables). I felt like the tomatoes alone were worth the trip (grape tomatoes for cheaper than I saw anywhere else, beautiful heirloom tomatoes at a decent price, and early girl tomatoes which can be hard to find in the winter [I haven't had them yet but they looked fresh]). There aren't a ton of options for the meat counter but they are all quality items and the prices show. For example, the only chicken they had was Mary's chicken. The cheese selection was great especially for a small store and they had some nice meat, olive and peppers (homemade?) options for charcuterie boards. They also sell premade meals. Probably not the place you should buy everything you need but it's a good supplemental option and there were some gems. I guess they have a few locations so I would be back to this one if I'm in the area and would also check out one of the other stores if convenient too.
