The staff at the front customer service booth and manager are so so nice! I went to ask about a new item that might have arrived day of and he went to check the back for the shipment and they found and opened the shipment in just a few minutes early in the morning. Thank you all so much! Super nice employees, clean and spacious store, great layout.

Big fan of this Trader Joe's! You enter on the top floor and take the escalators down a floor to the actual store. It's surprisingly small and big at the same time. It's conveniently located right off BART in Union Square so it's very accessible. The line can get long but it moves quickly. Despite how busy it gets, I've never encountered an issue on things being so out of stock that the items I need are not available. The staff seems to be pretty regularly restocking. There aren't really any other grocery stores in this area. The location is so convenient, I am regularly coming back.

Better prices here than in Silicon Valley!

This was my first time ever at this particular Trader Joe's, and it was very interesting how it was set up! As soon as you walk in, there's a security guard and then you are let down the escalators to the actual grocery store. The set up reminds me of the Trader Joe's in Stone town Galleria/The outskirts of San Francisco. Everything was very clean and organized and they were helpful employees around. I was actually looking for the restroom and I wanted to buy some drinks and a snack so I was able to get everything I needed, but since they had at least eight people checking/on the registers! I was very impressed with how clean the store was and how organized everything was! Plus, the store in San Francisco was a couple dollars cheaper than the one I usually go to down in Silicon Valley. Interesting how that works out!

These taste very vinegary. These aren't fresh at all. I can tell that they weren't refrigerated for the delivery then put out in the refrigerated area. I saw your employees continue to pack over other items and never checking. They are obviously never trained. The employees who are supposed to be stocking items were on their phone on the floor, extremely unprofessional and more likely why the watermelon is spoiled tasting. I previously had a salad that was molded from this store. Date for that was fine but already moldy due to employees refusing to refrigerate produce.

I was surprised this Trader Joe's is bigger than I have imagined being at this busy downtown San Francisco location. They have a variety of drinks and foods. Trader Joe's has grown since the days of $2 Buck Chuck. This Trader Joe's is the best place to go on a liquor run in the downtown area because it beats the corner liquor stores prices. I was a little surprised they were giving free samples inside. This Trader Joe's is stocked with drink and food aisles, with different types of international drink and food styles

Loved their attention to set and great personable workers. They always have something new. I have never been disappointed with the quality of their food.

As someone who doesn't have access to Trader Joes, I'm always enthralled by the selection, the curation of products, and the great service. For the normal Trader Joe aficionado, this place has all the regular stuff. Don't be surprised by the small entrance or escalator. The underground space will quickly put you in mind of the TJ's you know and love. As for visitors like us, we found this was a convenient spot for a quick stop on our comings and goings from our hotel in Union Square. Lots of options. Fresh, frozen, bottled, etc. Plenty of snacks and even a great selection of greeting cards and plants. Yay! Fast and helpful customer service.

Smooth, i can eat the whole pack in one seating, very dangerous

This is the place to get all the things you've been looking for at other TJs. Everything is here. They are well stocked. Lots of yummy goodies. I was trying new things and found some yummy food. Cashiers are super fast. The plant based bulgogi is outstanding. It's so real and flavorful. The chocolate peanut butter is so smooth. I can eat the whole bag. It's too dangerous for me.

When I am in my office in SF I visit traders joes for a quick snack. This location offers a great selection of many things. Provides a great service for everyone around...considering Whole Foods closed.

Is this location handicapped friendly?? I need an elevator or and escalator. Thx.

There's an escalator heading down below. Stonestown's Trader Joe's not only has an escalator but an elevator.

Who is the store manager? I can't find anything on their site

Does this location have the weekly raffle for a $25 TJ's gift card for spending $25+ and bringing in your own bags? Or knocks off $0.05 for every bag you bring?

I've been to this location several times already and they don't have that.

Best place to park?

Depends on the time of day. If you plan on going in the evening, you can park right in front of The Container Store. It's a loading zone, but since the close at 6pm, you're allowed to park there. You can also find parking around Mission & 5th St.… Read more

Actually, I hardly ever go to Safeway anymore. Shelves are always well stocked, store is very clean, and just a pleasant place to shop at. I've never tried the food at the self-serve buffet, but it usually looks pretty fresh. I like that it's never too crowded here, so you can maneuver your way around the aisles easily.

In one incident over a year ago, another customer verbally harassed me and threatened physical harm while I was shopping. Her child was left unattended and was knocking items over, which I reported to security. The guard failed to do his job and did not intervene appropriately. When a supervisor arrived, the situation was handled much more professionally. I should feel safe shopping in my local market. That guard no longer works there, but the experience was upsetting and difficult to move past. Unfortunately, in January 2026, I encountered similar issues with a new security guard. He has repeatedly followed me around the store without cause. Most recently, he approached me unnecessarily, stood uncomfortably close, and spoke to me in an intrusive manner while I was selecting items. His behavior showed poor training and a lack of respect for personal boundaries. These repeated experiences with security staff are negatively affecting the atmosphere at Woodlands. I am a respectful, regular customer and do not want to feel uncomfortable or monitored without cause when shopping. Proper security training and professionalism are essential for customer safety and trust.

Some things are definitely more than you'll pay elsewhere (most of the crackers for example). Pasta and canned goods prices were okay; in general maybe a bit higher than some places but not too much so. For vegetables, they do have some nice deals and stuff you may not find elsewhere (heirloom tomatoes, early girl tomatoes, variety of fruit and different vegetables). I felt like the tomatoes alone were worth the trip (grape tomatoes for cheaper than I saw anywhere else, beautiful heirloom tomatoes at a decent price, and early girl tomatoes which can be hard to find in the winter [I haven't had them yet but they looked fresh]). There aren't a ton of options for the meat counter but they are all quality items and the prices show. For example, the only chicken they had was Mary's chicken. The cheese selection was great especially for a small store and they had some nice meat, olive and peppers (homemade?) options for charcuterie boards. They also sell premade meals. Probably not the place you should buy everything you need but it's a good supplemental option and there were some gems. I guess they have a few locations so I would be back to this one if I'm in the area and would also check out one of the other stores if convenient too.
