A well stocked market on a seemingly empty street in Hayes valley run by two friendly guys. They have some small produce items( herbs, garlic, tomatoes) and lots of usual snacks you'd find at smaller markets like this. They have a few wine options too and plenty of pantry items. I was surprise to find a lot of snacks I don't normally see in west coast markets to my surprise. They have Nutella b ready sticks and chocolate digestives if you like those two. Very friendly ambiance and good neighborhood spot. read more

love these guys, they make me feel appreciated before I leave the door. I find what I need here, it's a great selection. Wish I saw more folks frequenting this classic market. read more

Super super friendly guys, and most things in stock. Some good bargains on the dry goods and booze fronts. Everything you need from a neighborhood market. read more

Just want to say thank you very much, for your hard work Nick, Louie, & Charlie!! I always come here to shop at your store and you guys make it very convenient for my family. Thank You. read more

Great local small supermarket with a plethora of goods to get you by when you can't do a big grocery haul. I love the affordable prices and great selection of items. A real gem in the neighborhood! read more

Great store with great customer service and competitive pricing. Thoughtful curation of items. One of the best parts of living in Hayes Valley is having Nick's as your corner store. read more

I've lived in the neighborhood for several years and am a regular customer. Charlie, Louie, and Nick are great guys and their grocery is a neighborhood staple. Can't say enough good things about this place! read more

Every time you go to Nick's, you are greeted by the most welcoming smiles. Not only do they have a great selection of produce, dairy, household items, etc, they are some of the kindest people you'll ever meet! read more

I give thanks and the highest praise to this little gem of a neighborhood grocery store. As many have said, it's so much more than a "convenience" store. Nick and his brother are true gems of humanity. Walking in the store, feels like home as this is the way you are greeted. They will and have bent over backwards to help me and my friend. I was 1st introduced to the store when the pandemic hit. I had a friend who lived a block away and this was her go to store for all her weekly needs. She felt safe and comfortable shopping here. A trip to Safeway was just too much emotionally and physically. On her bigger shopping trips I would go with her to help. Heck, I even bought a few things for myself. Granted the prices are bit higher, but I prefer to support a local then give my hard earned money to a corporation. Plus, you can be guaranteed all products are fresh and rotated. They have a wonderful selection of fresh fruit and vegetables. Any savings they get on a purchase, they always pass down to their customers. They also carried products in manageable sizes, not all 16 oz or a lb., but more for the local folks who didn't need to buy in bulk. When my friend became to ill to shop, I would do her weekly run for her. The guys new exactly what she liked and frequently guided me to her preferred product of choice. My friend was a "stickler" for just the right product. They even went so far as to open her juice jars in advance, because it got to a point where even that was too much for my friend. When her illness became more severe, I made less trips and bought less and her choices became more of survival food, in other words, things she could eat. Sadly, my friend ultimately passed away from colon cancer 1 year from her diagnosis. Which was about 4 months ago. In honor of my friend, I still go to Nicks to pick up a few things for myself and just say Hi and always a LOUD Thank You guys, you are the Best in the Business. RIP my friend, we all miss you. read more

We go to Nick's 2-3 month to pick up basic household items or for our It's It fix. When we are in the mood to bake, Nick's has a small but impressive baking section including Guittard baking chocolate and various flour options. For celebrations or just making it through the week, there's a good selection of wine and spirits. I needed a cauliflower for a soup but they ran out and the very next time Charlie saw me, he told me they had a recent delivery. Charlie and Louie are such nice and helpful guys. read more

Haha. San Francisco life is full of city markets like this. The ones with aisles of drinks in coolers and random groceries like Milano cookies and canned soup. This one is in Hayes Valley on Page Street. The guy who works at the counter knows there is another Nick's Market on Market. I picked out two drinks today including apple juice and Parrot coconut. I was at the Zen Center. This is a shop you walk by. read more

See all

I love Nick's Super Market because they've got a great selection of so many of the most important foodstuffs in addition to many more obscure products from all over the world, and the prices are reasonable compared to many other stores of a similar or smaller size located in the center of the city. read more

I moved out of the area but Nick's was my go to neighborhood store for 5 years. This store has everything, including many gourmet/ethnic ingredients. I've stopped here many times to fill in the gaps in my pantry while cooking some recipe. The guys who run the store are super nice and friendly. It's so beautiful to see a family working together and building a sense of community. Prices are decent. It's much cheaper than many "gourmet" mini marts around the city. You could get things cheaper at Safeway but I feel good about supporting hardworking and friendly small business owners that this city needs. Plus it's a much cleaner experience and much closer if you live in the heart of Hayes. read more

Louie, Charlie, and Nick are wonderful people. Besides that this store is a much needed part of the neighborhood. They have a huge selection of items in an area with few options. I support them every day and you should too. read more

Nick's is our local grocer, and we find ourselves there all of the time. Charlie, Louie, and Nick are wonderful. When I first moved to Hayes Valley and started patronizing the shop, Charlie made it a point to know my name. Their place is on the smaller side, but they stock all sorts of items and are willing to start stocking something if you're interested in it. I'll oftentimes be able to find items there that I can't elsewhere! Specifically, during this COVID-19 crisis, they have been kicking ass and taking names. They deserve a medal for their hard work. read more

Better prices and better service than the big stores nearby, and these guys are like family to myself and the neighborhood!

A true hidden San Francisco gem! I swear this supermarket has a better selection than Safeway does on most cooking necessities -- and then some. Low prices are just the beginning and super friendly staff makes it easy to come back again and agian. I have been in Hayes Valley since 2013 and have visited off and on since. When the Gough St Walgreens closed, this has become my go-to-convenience store due to its proximity and now I go nearly ever day. I was really pleasantly surprised that during the pandemic when other stores ran out of fruit and paper goods, this store, still managed to get stock. Even if I move out of Hayes Valley, I will still find a way to come here. read more

These guys have been working day and night to keep our neighborhood going- they have an incredible selection of products, even during a time when keeping the shelves stocked is hard. I had only started going in over the last year but since sheltering in place, it's become my go to spot. They are at the mercy of their supply chain and you can tell it really pains them to be out of something- when stores with huge warehouses are out of something and you're not, you are doing an amazing job. Thank you for all that you're doing. Stay healthy!! read more

These are the sweetest , most accommodating guys on the planet. My recently deceased husband and I have been going here for twenty years and more. They truly care about their customers. Above par wine selection, great produce, and they even have a hardware section. We love Louie and Charlie, and Louie's young son , Nicholas. read more

This is much more than a convenience store. It is the closest thing to an old fashioned grocery store in the area. They have a bit of everything, from a decent selection of frozen foods, to household supplies and international treats. You will be able to pick up all the ingredients for a full Indian dinner, and they have a nice wine selection. There is a discount area in the rear of the store with a lot of items. The signs in the store are from the early 60s and it has been run by the same family for a long time. Very much worth the nearly one mile round trip walk to get my weekly groceries. read more

After six years living in Hayes Valley, we are sadly packing up and heading for the burbs. Throughout this time, there's only been one store that my wife and I have formed an emotional connection to. Nick's is truly an institution and we will miss it and its owners deeply. This is a store that believes in integrity and in treating its customers well. Even in the face of rising costs for literally everything in the city, Nick's has always kept things reasonable and fair. This is a store that takes the time to get to know their customers. You feel like you're supporting something that is increasingly rare in today's world--a family business from a bygone era run by wonderful people. At times, we've gone out of our way to shop here. Why not? They've gone out of the way for us many times too. read more

Charlie and Louie are great! These guys are still running a great neighborhood store and are a big part of the community.

Nick's is the best corner grocery store in SF. They have a variety of foods from fresh produce, premade items, packaged food (good selection of Asian and Mediterranean items), wines and cheeses, and even household supplies. Really you could do almost all of your grocery shopping here. And the prices! Soo affordable for SF. Probably the most affordable grocery store in the city. Pro tip: they are cash only but this is what helps them to stay cost-competitive in this expensive city. The cashiers are always so nice too. This is such a great family run/local grocery store and a much-needed gem amongst the expensive gourmet grocery shops as well as chain grocery stores in the area. read more

Love this store! For being small, it basically has everything I need and I cook quite a lot. Plus the guys that work there are really nice to everyone and feel like my neighbors. I don't write many yelp reviews but these guys deserve the praise. read more

You can't not like Nick's. I challenge you. A local's grocer with all the essentials in life, including foodstuffs beer wine liquor and household supplies. And the three guys there are always super helpful and friendly. There is one caveat -- since they're a smaller shop they don't have a meat section. Closest thing is sausage in the fridge which will do fine in a pinch. Fatted calf is nearby and has similar hours, so drop by them to round out your grocery experience. read more

Nick's Super Market - Wine time - Grocery Near Me - San Francisco, California

The kind owner's pricing gizmo appears to have stopped working in 1983. Since then he has been unable to update his prices. I consistently leave the store in a state of bewilderment, a bag full of groceries in my hand, wondering how it totaled less than $10 dollars. This is in contrast to, say, the twitter Market, not two blocks away, where that very same bag full of groceries would require a partial mortgage of your home. How such a disparity in prices is possible, I, as a trained economist, cannot answer. But next time you are looking for a kind, affordable neighborhood grocer, I sincerely recommend Nick's, where the laws of economics are in indefinite suspension. read more

Been going here since we moved into the neighborhood six years ago. I've always liked going there (the guys who work there are nice, the produce selection is much better than most, the prices are competitive and I like supporting local businesses when I can) but now with shelter-in-place happening I appreciate them more than ever. Their hard work is helping to keep my anxiety in check! read more

During this whole Coronoavirus it is important to support local grocery stores. I had attempted to buy some items at Whole Food online only to get to the checkout to say there were no delivery times available and no options. So I called my local grocer to see if they had eggs and he saved the last carton of eggs for me and knew who I was when I walked in the door. I moved to the Hayes Valley neighborhood just a few months ago and he welcomed me to the neighborhood. It is nice and convenient and very well priced with good quality food. I worked in a grocery store for several years when I was younger so I've always been picky where shop for food. I just got back from grocery shopping at Nick's and it was the highlight of my day, they even had toilet paper during times like this! read more

If you live in Hayes Valley or lower Haight you are very, very lucky because you get to shop at Nicks supermarket. Charlie, Louis and Nick are the kindest, sweetest men - they know their customers by name and if they hear you have a birthday they may even give you a gift! I have seen them work themselves to the bone during the 2020 pandemic, but they never let their customers down. Always warm, always accommodating, with a corner store that is fully stocked with all the things you love. And in my experience if they don't have it they will get it in - just for you! I am very, very grateful to have the best corner shop in the world in my neighbourhood :) read more

I am going to say the Market is very close to my job so it's quite convenient for me to go there when I really need something. Whenever I go there, it's not always busy so that's a plus for me and you can find what you are looking for. Don't know if I am blind but I can never seem to find any coffee, and I always forget that whenever I go there as I have a crave for Iced coffee. I am a little surprised considering it is a mini market and you would assume they sell coffee. Overall it is one of my to-go shops and it's nice to know that it is so close to my job. I'll be back again! read more

This store reminds me of the local stores of my childhood. Beyond classic groceries they sell small mezzes such as dolma, potato salad that you can buy and serve as lunch or dinner. Also they have lots of vegan items such as tomato / squash soup, quinoa burgers, couscous, veganniese and vegan ice cream. You can find middle eastern, Mediterranean and Asian food in store and it's definitely affordable. read more

Supurb, level of service is in a class of it's own. Also, inventory will surprise you. Amazon better watch out, this mom and pop shop is gonna put you on your heels. read more

I moved away from Hayes Valley last month and still mourn Nick's. My final purchase was several hanks of rope and bungee cords to help with my move. These guys are amazing; in addition to everything from toilet paper to awesome coffee to oatmeal, they deliver so much love and sweetness in a harsh world! read more

I live right next door to Nick's. It's more than your usual corner store. In fact, I don't have to drive or walk to Safeway for staple grocery items - they have them mostly here. I'm impressed with their wine selection of California and imported French, Italian and Australian wines at great prices around ten bucks. A bargain these days for a good bottle of vino. Small hardware supplies? They have it. "Green" products like TP, paper towels and other environmentally friendly items. They carry it. Louie cracks me up. After he rings you at the register he never fails to say: "Have a good day! Bye.", reminding me of Apu, the Kwik-e store owner in the Simpson's. LOL. No, Louie's not from India nor does he have an Indian accent, but he's very genteel and I've never seen him get angry or upset. That always makes my day. read more

Neighborhood grocery. Usually both the gentlemen have been pretty friendly, and they walk over to help you find stuff if you can't locate it. The older brother usually has a wide smile plastered on his face, which makes a good day even better. Sadly I had a really sour experience today. I politely asked for quarters after paying for my $12 groceries. I was given a ten $ stack + cash change for my $20 bill. When I requested if he could do $5 more the cashier was really rude about it- he sternly said "you know we don't do that. We don't give people quarters, you have to go to the bank for it" I was really taken aback becoz they always gladly helped us out with change when they have it- they've even asked us to come back the next day when they were out, so this came as a rude surprise out of no where. I was really taken aback. I didn't want to keep customer behind me waiting so I politely left. I called back and asked if he'd had a bad day and that they always helped out, and it's very usual for people to get quarters at the grocery store- and if they'd changed their mind that's okay but couldn't he say it nicely? All I got was a stern "thank you for your attention" - I'm going to feel really awkward about shopping there if I ever have to again :-/ read more

I cannot recommend this place enough. They have almost everything except meat. They have a huge variety considering the size of the place, and an aisle in the back with random, dusty household stuff that's saved my ass more than once. Charlie and Louie are genuine and sweet. Their prices are almost always lower than Safeway (except Safeway sales), their clearance rack has stuff that's not totally bargain bin (Super C tastes EXACTLY like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, if you want a taste of childhood for 99cents). They recognize me every time I come in, not only not carding me, but like asking about my job search, how my husband is. When my husband and I had our families over during wedding stuff, we walked over to Nick's to pick up a bottle of wine -- they gave it to us for free and wished us well. Charlie gave me an effing HUG when I told him I got engaged. I moved to Oakland a couple weeks ago and I make it a point to pick up a bottle of wine or something every time I'm in the City. This place is irreplaceable. If you still live in Hayes Valley, I'm super jealous of you. This is exactly the kind of place that says San Francisco -- small, local, honest, sweet, a little random. read more

What a great find! \Nick's Super Market has almost everything you could want and they even have a large selection of organic items. That means pasta and soups and cheese and even a great selection of imported foods that you won't find elsewhere. I think the best part about coming here is the owners because they are so sweet and truly appreciate your business. The only sad thing is that the store closes at 8pm :( read more

Love this place. It is one block from my house and has all the little things I need. Wine, cheese, eggs, Amy's Tofu Scramble, etc. Sometimes the produce isn't the freshest but it is a tiny market so I know they do not have a lot of turnover of product. The gentlemen who work here are always pleasant and talkative. There is no shortage of amazing customer service. Please dont ever close :) read more

This market sets the standard of what every neighborhood market should aspire to be. The store is crazy clean, well lit, and easily navigable. The product choices are plentiful, i.e. good quality brands, crappy brands, and the health food alternative companies are all well represented. The proprietor is helpful and kind. Seriously, I like my local markets (Sunshine & New Santa Clara), but boy-oh-boy do I wish I'd wake up tomorrow and they magically turned into Nick's. The neighborhood here is growing due to the Market-Octavia Plan so I'm glad to see this market will get in on the ground floor and probably will be there for years to come. read more

I can only echo the compliments lavished on this place by others. I can't imagine giving it less than 5 stars---it's much better than Safeway and most other grocery stores; the prices are shockingly low for a corner store or even relative to Safeway, and it's so much faster and convenient. I thought I'd only be able to get staple items there, but it serves about 95% of my shopping needs. My only disappointment is that I lived in the neighborhood, just over 2 blocks away, for more than a year before discovering it! (I usually walk toward the Mission or Castro to buy things; never knew there was anything nonresidential on that block of Page.) Now I'm a regular. Interesting to learn that the owners are brothers; my ex and I had been speculating on their relationship. read more
