I really like this location. They always have my medications and deliver them on time. Whenever there's an issue, they call right away and communicate it clearly. I never run out of my meds, and I'm on medications that I can't abruptly stop, so I really appreciate their reliability. This is for the pharmacy only: + They're only meant to be closed between 1:30 and 2:00 but arbitrarily just close until 2:30 or later. You may end up waiting like I've had to on several occasions. + Every time I go, the ere seems to be a different pharmacy tech-in-training which suggests they can't hold on to people? + The pharmacists themselves are possibly overworked but they seem like they're tired and sick of the job. Their manner with people is brusque and curt. + Medications are rarely in on time and inquiries are often met with a lack of certainty and being told to call back to verify. I'm sure a lot of the issues are because of Walgreens corporate and not the people, but it is really taxing to deal with this location and I've had to move all my high-priority meds to another Walgreens to ensure I get things on time with the least hassle. read more

Saturday Pharmacy team: Hands down the worst service I've ever gotten. I've been using Walgreens for decades. No issues ever . The pharmacist at the front desk was condescending to me when he saw no meds in my file- I said I was coming to pick up my prescription- I clarified which one. I called their store several times in the morning and one time was able to reach a pharmacist who had offered to help me when I got clarification on which prescription I needed, she told me to call back and she would take care of me. When I got everything cleared up, I called several times And was on hold for up to 20 minutes with no person picking up the phone at the pharmacy. (PS this was not during lunch hour ). So I used their online chat to ensure the prescription would be ready within 90 minutes, ask them to verify that we were talking about the right place and they did confirm the address and hours- I came over a few hours later to make sure they had ample time to prepare it. explained this to the pharmacist again who insisted they had no record of my script. He was asking another woman for help and she was guiding him and instead of coming to me and taking over, which would've been much better she just gave him a couple of tasks and then he went to talk to someone else, no one wanted to deal with the clientele patiently waiting in line. So they asked me to sit down and wait. They didn't say whether they were looking for it or had to make it. Just kept me in the dark. 20 minutes after being asked to sit down I went back to ask for an update. He continued to tell me they are working on it. I asked for clarification as to whether they were looking for it or making it and he would not answer me. Walked away again. I said I wanted to talk to the woman I had spoken to earlier on the phone and I described her and she was standing behind the desk. When she noticed that I mentioned her, she walked away and essentially hid from me. Meanwhile, I'm very calm, but I'm definitely frustrated and explained that they are not communicating clearly with me as to what's going on and I need to try to find another pharmacy if they can't get it for me before all the pharmacies closed. I'm now waiting again an additional 20 minutes and all they said was please give us a little more time without any clarification. Poor management, terrible communication and zero customer service. Now, watching other people who are also waiting and they are experienced the same level of frustration, it almost seems like the team here is clueless. read more

I've been going to this Walgreens for 3 years because I live a block away. I've never had any issues until the new security guy got hired, tall thin older black guy. Since his first day, he's been staring me down while I shop as if I'm about to steal something, even though I've never had that history with them or ever. He's always around me like a shark. I had this uncomfortable feeling for awhile but today he went as far as to actually approach me, put his hand in my shopping cart, then said "oh" and awkwardly walked away, and the overweight big white store employee also awkwardly smiled and said "my bad" or something and walked away too. You can imagine that I was less than happy to find that my makeup remover had spilled all over the inside of my toiletry bag. Busy Walgreens. Very close to Union Square, which means it's gonna be messy and it's gonna have some sketchy people walking in and out of here. People screaming at the top of their lungs at nothing and trying to steal random stuff so they can sell it later. There is always some random person harassing people exiting the store asking for change. The aisles here are never cleaned up and the counter tops are sticky. Bottom Line: Souveniors, sundries and MUNI passes in bustling Union Square. This is a busy Walgreens on the Corner of Powell and Sutter. The store is relatively small so the aisles feel cramped and the shelves are packed. Fortunately the shelves are flowing with all of the right stuff for a San Francisco tourist including snacks, beverages, souvenirs, forgotten toiletries and MUNI passes. I found myself in this store seeking a 3-day MUNI pass so I could ride the cable cars, historic streetcar and busses until my heart was content. As it turns out they were out of MUNI passes but I did find some other goodies like Ghirardelli chocolate squares, sodas, and San Francisco's famous It's It ice cream sandwich. As fellow Yelp Elite Rodney G pointed out, this page is NOT for the bright, modern, unique two-story Walgreens located at 135 Powell St. in the very heart of Union Square. The store at 135 Powell St. is definitely the nicest Walgreens I've ever seen but this location at 459 Powell St. is very average, at best. She discriminated against me, I can she from her face and the way she treat me. The is the Walgreen's where the Hood meets the Tourist Hordes. The upshot are tacky SF souvenir displays up front and lots of locked up toiletries (including toothpaste!) throughout the store. Otherwise, this place has the usual packed aisles (people and merchandise), disorientation on the location of what you're looking for, and employees who are doing their best to serve customers and get the hell out at the end of the shift. So why was I here? Because I miss the schlock SF Tourist Experience of my Youth and this was a quick stop before I headed off to Fisherman's Wharf (via Cable Car and in a T-Shirt and Shorts)! Seriously, I was at a professional meeting at the Hotel Nikko and my gums were "angry" after Lunch. This is the NICEST walgreens I have ever been to. It is located on Powell Street in Union Square and is two stories tall. Filled with everything you could ever think of (appropriate to a Walgreens, of course) as well as a fresh food section with sushi, fresh squeezed juice, smoothies, pastries, salads, fruit, etc. The lines move quickly and the employees are always happy to help. There are a few tables available to patrons needing a space to enjoy their food and it is very clean and well maintained. They always have security at the main entrance as it can get very busy in these parts of town. I highly recommend passing by with whatever needs you may have. It is the best thing available to tourists and locals alike, other than the Bristol Farms located in the Westfield Mall which may be too expensive for the blood of those on a budget! read more

The problem was I didn't had a receipt. I asked this asian woman and she said she doesn't know how to return without a receipt so she went to the big black security guard and after sometime he called me and said 'we can't do it without a receipt and have the right to refuse return to anyone. You can ask Xin and see if he is willing to make an exception. ' While he was speaking I thought 'why am I wasting my time with him?' This is the most convenient Walgreens as it is right at a cornerstone of Union Square. The staff is friendly and helpful enough, and the pharmacy staff is wonderful - they are always great in helping me through the tangles of health insurance and physician prescription requirements no matter what. I am forever grateful for their patience and persistence is helping me obtain what I need when everything else seems to be in disarray. In general, the store pretty much has what I need at standard prices, and it is amazing, but no matter how many people are in line at the registers, the line moves fairly quickly and without a hitch. Oh Walgreens, you always seem to be closeby whenever I'm in the US. This one was a short walk from our hotel so the one we frequented almost daily. What other store could you buy a souvenir spoon, sushi, or meds? I only got the spoon (cheapest place to buy it) but we loaded up on snacks and chocolate that aren't available in Canada. It was always busy with a line up towards the coolers but it moved quick. Also, the aisles can get pretty crowded too. The guys working here (I don't think I ever saw a woman working the front tills) were always efficient and quick. We didn't have a Walgreens card since we don't live in the US but he signed us up for one using a hotel phone number. Cool, now I have a card to get better prices next time I shop at Walgreens! Like, People's Temple "drink this motherfucking Kool-Aid and achieve NIRVANA!" bullshit. I mean, Bumble & Bumble Thickening Shampoo is nice and all, but IT'S A SHAMPOO. It could be made of cat placenta, whale shit, and unicorn tears mixed by a peg-legged pirate with lice in his beard and a sinus problem but it still won't make a fucking difference to your hair SINCE YOU WASH IT ALL OUT. I get that now. So I came here to find some nice, run-of-the-mill shampoo that would give my hair body and bounce without forcing me to forgo my next meal. I also needed to buy an anti-perspirant with enough aluminum chlorohydrate to stanch sweat. And give me cancer -- kidding! (right?!?) Now, most Walgreens place a few select items in locked plexiglass cases. But THIS Walgreens goes way overboard: TAG deodorant, bath gels, EVEN K-Y JELLY-- all placed under lock and key. Can you imagine how fucking embarrassing it would be to buzz for an employee and ask them to open the LUBE CASE?!? For those of you who don't know, I am dying a slow and painful death due to my poor oral health. A root canal is what happens when you stick those things in your mouth, kids. Anyway, today the pain reached a new level and I could feel my pulse in the lower left quadrant of my mouth. This new bit of fun caused me to call the endodontist who put me through this hell. Me (to receptionist): I am in pain Receptionist: Is it a dull pain? A sharp pain? Me: I don't know. It's about a 7 on the pain scale. It just hurts. I've been taking 800 mg of ibuprofen and darvocet and it doesn't work. Receptionist: (After many more annoying questions) I will tell the doctor. Doctor calls me back: Sometimes it hurts for a few days. Can you take vicodin? Me: No, vicodin makes me sick. Percocet (aka little pills of joy) is usually the most effective. Doctor: I'll write you a prescription, but you have to pick it up. Me: Fine After I get the glorious paper for the little pills of joy, I traipse my exhausted body over here, because I was too lazy to go anywhere else. And I needed some cash for parking. The pharmacy tech was very helpful, and said that it would take about 20 minutes to fill my prescription. Fine. The great thing about Walgreens in general (although this one is tiny and had less selection) is that you can amuse yourself for hours with all the crap that they have. Or maybe I'm just easily amused. It started with a tweet from my cousin. My first thought was that I was hoping that he would be ok. Then it hit me that "this" might have an impact on another front and may not end so well. I called my Uncle (who really isn't my uncle) and got the lowdown. He was not a happy camper to say the least, but told me "not to worry" this won't be going any further. But I know better. As the month went by I kept a close eye on the developments and waited for the bird poop to hit the fan. My work and family was about to clash and there was not a single thing I could do about it. Each day I would make four separate phone calls to check in on the latest. Each time I was told, "oh, don't worry go do your thing and this will all be fine". Ok, I'll go ahead and plan a 12 day vacation and not have email or phone access and "this thing" will all be blown over by the time I get back. The morning of my flight I had my dad camped out in the short term parking lot and I was standing in front of the check out counter staring down at my Blackberry waiting for word on "this thing" and was ready to cancel my trip and head to West Texas instead. It came down to the wire but two emails flashed over. "oh, don't worry, go away have fun on your trip". So I did. I returned yesterday and just as I thought, this whole thing has turned into one ugly baby. I'm still being told not to worry, so I took a walk up the hill and remembering that I just returned from Swine Flu central I saw a sign on the front door of this Walgreens "H1N1 flu shot available" We are told "not to worry about the flu" that it is no longer a threat.
