You can find the famous It's It ice cream sandwich here and it's very good!
Courtney K.

Bottom Line: Souveniors, sundries and MUNI passes in bustling Union Square. This is a busy Walgreens on the Corner of Powell and Sutter. The store is relatively small so the aisles feel cramped and the shelves are packed. Fortunately the shelves are flowing with all of the right stuff for a San Francisco tourist including snacks, beverages, souvenirs, forgotten toiletries and MUNI passes. I found myself in this store seeking a 3-day MUNI pass so I could ride the cable cars, historic streetcar and busses until my heart was content. As it turns out they were out of MUNI passes but I did find some other goodies like Ghirardelli chocolate squares, sodas, and San Francisco's famous It's It ice cream sandwich. As fellow Yelp Elite Rodney G pointed out, this page is NOT for the bright, modern, unique two-story Walgreens located at 135 Powell St. in the very heart of Union Square. The store at 135 Powell St. is definitely the nicest Walgreens I've ever seen but this location at 459 Powell St. is very average, at best. Which ever Walgreens you venture into, be sure to bring your reusable shopping bag unless you want to pay for a paper bag.

Waiting for my flu shot!

Came home for my yearly visit. I love Walgreens in Honolulu I miss the weekly specials. Great service and very helpful, only in Honolulu !

This is the NICEST walgreens I have ever been to. It is located on Powell Street in Union Square and is two stories tall. Filled with everything you could ever think of (appropriate to a Walgreens, of course) as well as a fresh food section with sushi, fresh squeezed juice, smoothies, pastries, salads, fruit, etc. The lines move quickly and the employees are always happy to help. There are a few tables available to patrons needing a space to enjoy their food and it is very clean and well maintained. They always have security at the main entrance as it can get very busy in these parts of town. I highly recommend passing by with whatever needs you may have. It is the best thing available to tourists and locals alike, other than the Bristol Farms located in the Westfield Mall which may be too expensive for the blood of those on a budget!

Overwhelming and full of tourists and students. Even for a Walgreens, this store is pretty bad.

They are so busy there, sometimes it can be a long and frustrating wait, but then Alice is there with her smile.

One of the few positives of pandemic times was that parking in San Francisco was much easier. My…read moredentist was closed for a while, but when she finally opened back up, I still wasn't taking Muni regularly again, and many of the lines were still suspended, including the one I usually took to the dentist. So I started driving. It was still more difficult than it needed to be to find parking, which means that in normal times, it must be nigh impossible. In any case, I think I drove to the dentist three or four times before braving the bus back, and sometimes I had to park all the way in Japantown. (My dentist's office is off of Van Ness.) Walking from my car to my appointment, I was very aware of this place's hidden (protected?) little parking lot, so I made sure to stop by after having my teeth cleaned. It did, indeed, have a little parking lot, but it was designed very poorly and could require lots of backing up and turning and backing up again. This poor Walgreens. I don't care about the corporation itself, but its workers had to deal with a lot. On the three occasions I came (one of them totally unrelated to my dentist visit), they were always either shooing shoplifters out or trying to explain why the photo counter was closed or calling the police to deal with unruly and/or insane people loitering in the aisles. They really tried to make a go of it; they did. The employees, not the corporation. Again, I don't care about the corporation, but these people either valued their jobs or believed in putting in a hard day's work or both, because they just tried so hard to do things the right way. They didn't allow line-cutters to intimidate or sweet-talk them, and they didn't suffer fools--or at least they tried their darndest not to suffer fools. The cooler always seemed to be running out of diet soda, which is my main complaint. And yes, you can bet I seriously considered parking in the lot, buying something from the store, and then going to the dentist, but I'm pretty sure they would have towed me. Now that it's gone, I guess we'll never know.

The pharmacy staff member at the cash…read moreregister was very calm and patient with everyone even though the line started to get long during the lunch hour. She was really pleasant to deal with (every time). The pharmacist was good about speaking with me about generic versus brand name for my medication. Very patient! The heeded my preference for the brand name and filled the order promptly when my original prescription slip had stated brand or generic. This CVS Pharmacy is outstanding! The prescription steps were clear. I called in for refill. CVS texted me when my refill was ready for pick up. I went to the pharmacy cashier with the QR code then got my medication. Doing this job day-in-day out and dealing with impatient people on medication situations (refills, orders that not have been transmitted by doctors, insurance coverage of meds or not): the pharmacists and staff deserve a medal! With some stores closing down, we need this CVS in the neighborhood. Let's be nicer to staff, be patient and grateful they are here.

I gave it my daughter's date of birth and the virtual assistant said that date was not connected with the number I was calling from! WTH? It kept saying my account had to be verified to connect me to the pharmacy! I could not get through to the pharmacy so will have to drive all the way there. My daughter is on vacation so she asked me to pick up her prescription but I can't even get connected to the pharmacy by telephone. So ridiculous!!
