This location is quite large with a good selection of wines, lagers, and hard liquor. It is pretty close to where I live, so it is a convenient spot to go to when you need something quick for gifts or to supplement little get togethers. But the place lacks a lot of Asian drink variety, especially in their beer selection. They have the usual suspects such as Asahi, Sapporo and Tsingtao, but nothing special. I usually find myself just browsing their selection to get an idea of what's on sale and then head to Nijiya, Costco, or Total Wine instead. The prices at BevMo are usually fair compared to their competitors. This location only has street parking, which can be a hassle when you're shopping for a big party. Place can get a bit rowdy due to the patrons in the neighborhood, so it's nice that there is always a nice security guard working at the door at all times. read more

This store is very unorganized. Labels are posted with one price, but when rung up at the register, the items come out more expensive. The store manager, Luis, was no help at all. I explained that a customer can't go behind the glass and switch prices, but he could care less. When I asked for a general manager, he said he was the manager on duty and that I'd have to contact the store on Monday. It's clear to see why this location has such poor ratings. read more

Last came here for Beverages & Ice, and given the elevator to parking it was painless loading the car. As for the store it's large, and has a decent mix of stock. I have had mixed experiences with the staff, but I will forgive some of the less than stellar interactions based on the challenges they might experience at that location. Hugh! Parking garage off the busy, no parking spaces, Van Ness corridor. I would never have known if I didn't see a small parking arrow sign just before the entrance. BTW, the arrow points straight ahead, but you need to turn right on Sutter & drive slowly until you find the barely visible entrance. The garage is above the store with an elevator, perfect for heavy loads. And then there's the store. Wow! I'm not much of a drinker, so never had a need to load up on booze. This visit was a fruitless effort to find Anchor Steam Porter. So far, my second stop. I briefly lost my mind and bought Pilsner instead of Porter. Went back to return it next day, only they don't take returns. Guess I'm opening a Biergarten. Since Anchor Steam Brewery announced they were shutting down, there's been a mad scramble to load up on cases of anything. Thanks a lot new owner Sapporo. Yet another beloved San Francisco business, the oldest craft brewery in the US. Hopefully, someone will buy them & carry on the tradition. Anyway, I digress. This store seems to have it all. One stop shopping for parties & alcoholics. Like the guy holding up the checkout line waxing poetic about his coin collection. But the place has an alert security guard not staring at his phone- I'm talking to you Safeway. It's clean & safe, well stocked with fun beer labels, wine, cocktail stuff, greeting cards for that bottle of wine you're bringing to the dinner party. I'd recommend this place for sure. I'm downgrading them one star (if only Yelp would allow me in this review). Why? Because I called them twice this week & both times they said the Anchor Steam Porter was in stock. That they have a huge indoor parking lot is a big plus, especially handy with the years-long, never ending construction on Van Ness where there's nary a parking spot to be found. And BAM! I read lots of reviews about this place having it all. I was excited to enter as I was looking for some of the California Pinot noirs that have made the Sonoma valley famous. I purchased four bottles in the regular aisle, but wanted to check out what was in the "vault". As I approached the "vault" and rung the bell for assistance twice, no one paid attention to my desire to enter the vault. I finally stopped a tall African American man and asked if I could see if I could find a particular bottle of Pinot Noir in the vault as I did not find it in the outside aisle. The first comment I got was that "the wines in there were very expensive". I replied with "I understand" and would like to see what was in there. He replied with "we do not give tours in the vault". I knew where he was going with this statement so I said. "Well then if you do not wish me to enter then it's ok." I began walking away in disappointment when the man took the keys from his pocket and began to open the door of the vault. He then asked me if I knew what I was looking for. I said I wanted to see if you had any vintage of DuMol Pinot Noir. He then said dumot? We do not carry that label. I saw something interesting and pointed towards a bottle of Jayson Pahlmeyer and asked for him to grab one for me to purchase. His reply was "if you see it, get it". I supposed there was a misunderstanding on my part. However, with the way he refused my initial request to enter, I didn't think I should handle the bottles myself. Needless to say, I was insulted by the man by initially refusing my request to enter the vault. After which, I was told to get my own bottle of wine which I did. Then when I got to the counter, the counter lady pretty much slammed all the bottles (including the delicate Pinot from the vault) on the counter. Acting Supervisor last night was a female that after asking to speak to someone at Total Wins in Daly City to verify price matches Mumms Brut Rose at 15.97, she then have already spent over 20 minutes of my time then to return after running away during the transaction, then says only Frank can do price match with Total Wines of Daly City at 10am. After all that unnecessary waste work for over 20 minutes and could've told me that she doesn't know how... that would have been acceptable that she needs more training and shouldn't be a Supervisor. read more

I had an order that was not delivered in the window of delivery. When I called the store, a lady picked up and immediately said, "please hold." Was on hold for several minutes before she came back. I then asked if I could check on the status of my order and she put me on hold again and never came back. In total, I was on hold for over 20 minutes. I hung up and called back. She picked up and immediately put me on hold again. Another 6 minutes passed by and no one came back. Unacceptable. I later received an email that the order was cancelled by the delivery provider. Since my order was cancelled, I reordered everything the next day - which was timely delivered. Imagine my surprise when the order from the day before was LATER delivered despite my receiving notification that the order was cancelled. After checking my credit card statement, it looks like I was charged, refunded, then charged again. I now have a double order of alcohol that I do not need. read more

I've just encountered a very rude sales associate at the Van Ness location. I frequent Bevmo every 2-3 months. I was buying a liter of Campari and grapefruit soda. The associate: Jon said I need your ID to scan. He didn't say to verify. I declined the scan as I have before and I usually show my ID. He then became defensive, not sure why. After I said no to the scan he became upset. Now I work in hospitality, luxury hospitality. I myself would NEVER have engaged a client/customer they way he did. His approach was unprofessional, unfriendly and uncalled for. All I can think about is his obvious and blatant bias. However, as I was paying, the lovely cashier lady (I didn't get her name) was bagging my purchase and then this incredibly obnoxious rude and hostile employee named Amanda (blonde hair) came to the cashier and was basically yelling at her right in front of me about some work/order issue. Honestly, Amanda should never talk to any colleague like that ever. However the fact that she did it right in front of me and a long line of customers was unacceptable. The staff was helpful in locating a certain type of gin I was looking for (wanting to make a tom collins). During this social distancing time period. Everything was laid out pretty well. Go to BEVMO stores on Vanness Street on Jan 20, 2021 around 6.30- 7pm to buy a case of lagunitas as usual. This is probably the 10th time ( definitely not our 1st time) we got our beers as we lived across Bevmo. This time, the cashier said I CAN'T BUY THE BEERS as I was the only one who has a verified ID. My boyfriend tagged along & he didn't bring his ID. The Cashier said she needed both of us to have our ID. The manager is being called & He CONFIRMED that is true. My issue is I went so many times before today with a friend or my boyfriend but not even once that both of our ID is verified when we pay at check out. Rude manager unaware of store policy. I purchased some bourbon and wanted to return it because I was dissatisfied with my purchase. I had the receipt and the bottle was unopened. As you can see the store policy which is clearly posted on the receipt reads, "if you are dissatisfied with your purchase... returns made within 7 days with a valid receipt will be returned to the original form of payment." The prices here are ridiculous. Many are 30% higher for the same products you can buy in a supermarket. Also, the lack of cashiers whenever I visit is a joke. Mostly every time only one cashier available for a line with 20 ppl. Maybe because they got bought out and new company owner GoPuff doesn't give a damn.
