Cosmoprof - Joico - Cosmetics & Beauty Supply Near Me - San Francisco, California

First of all, very limited supply. Secondly, their customer service has a lot to be desired. I asked for help on how to find bleach and developer and the associate who helped me seemed very bored and uninterested. Then after she helped me find everything she told me they only sell to licensed cosmetologists. That's fine, but I didn't see any signage whatsoever indicating that was the case. She wouldn't let me buy anything and all I wanted was dye and bleach and developer. She apologized but it did not sound sincere. And it sucks because this store is in my neighborhood so shopping here would have been extremely convenient. Please make it more clear that this store is not open for the public and is just for licensed cosmetologists if that truly is the case, and please be more kind and courteous and empathetic to your customers moving forward. read more

I've been to many of the CosmoProf locations in the Bay Area and I must say this is probably the worst one. They have very limited supply of items or out of stock altogether. There is a gentleman that works here who is always disgruntled and not helpful at all. On one occasion, I asked the gentleman if they had something in stock and he laughed at me!! Literally laughed and then said "ummm no" like it was a crazy question. Didn't realize buying stuff from this store was funny, but ok! You also have to get buzzed in and out of the store each time you enter and exit. He takes forever to let you in and when exiting I was moving the door in the wrong direction. Instead of assisting or correcting me, he laughed again and just said "other way". He's been horrible and very condescending each time I've been there and I definitely will not be back. The SSF and Millbrae locations are much more pleasant. Do yourself a favor and drive to one of those. You will not have any issues and experience great customer service. read more

Ive been to about 4 cosmoprofs around the bay so far. Its nice because if i need something in a jiff, theres one nearby at my convenience and is open 7 days a week. This location is the absolute worse. Ive come in about 3 times. There was this lady, whom i believe is the manager, was always there. I feel like maybe because i look inexperienced, she treats me as such. I definitely dont like coming here and even though i live sf, i will wait longer and drive to a different location because of that. read more

The male workers here are RUDE. Every single time I encounter them, it is unpleasant. First of all, I go in and I ask for a product I am looking for and he condescendingly answers me "We don't even carry that. Never did." What do you mean you never carried that? You obviously did because I bought it from there before. Then he goes, "we just stopped and it's been over 5 months." So what the hell do you mean you never did? Then he proceeds to interrogate me, "Do you have card?? You need one to shop here." NO SH'T SHERLOCK! I asked for a product and clearly stated I've been here before. As I was being rung up, another lady that was shopping around came back and asked a question and his rely? "I already told you WE DON'T HAVE IT. I told FIVE TIMES ALREADY." Employee of the month? This review is for Jackie the disgruntled employee whom I received HORRIBLE customer service from. I called the store this morning and a gentleman answered the phone. He was very helpful and was able to put the Ceripil wax that I needed on hold for me. When I came into the store the employee Jackie that was there saw me walk in and returned to the back room. I had to say hello just to get her attention to even acknowledge I was in the store and that I needed assistance. As a business owner I felt very unwelcomed and was also surprised that the employee would leave the store vulnerable to getting robbed. I let her know that I was there for the wax that was put on hold for me. Once I began checking out she asked me for my CosmoProf card. I told her she could look it up and stated that I had boughten supplies from CosmoProf before and that I am a licensed esthetician so I should be in the system. I showed her a picture of my actual license but that was not sufficient. I gave her my full name and email and still for whatever reason she could not find me. At this point I became frustrated because I needed the wax immediately and already stated that I have boughten from them before. She was very rude in denying my sale and swore that I did not have an account. I refuse to go back and forth with an incompetent employee trying tell me something that I know is not true especially over some wax that I could've ordered from Amazon. I left the store and called the CosmoProf in Alemeda to make sure they had the wax before having to be inconvenienced by driving all the way over there just to make a simple purchase. They did so I took my business there. Jazmine the store manager was the one who assisted me. I told her what happened at the SF location. This time when she went to look me up, she IMMEDIATELY found my account on the first try. She was super sweet and helpful! She apologized for my experience at the previous location. She was very personable and I was able to make the purchase that I needed without giving me some kind of BS run around. This is were I will be taking my business from now on!!! I usually order all of my supplies online but this was a last minute emergency. To go in to a store, receive horrible service, and get some BS run around like I did from Jackie at the SF location was completely unacceptable. It seems like the most incompetent people are the ones that take their job the most seriously while lacking common sense. Perhaps this is why consumers have moved to online shopping and stores are constantly going out if business. If you are going to shop CosmoProf in store I suggest going to Alemeda, Daly City, or Milbrae. I have never had an experience like this at any other location. read more

I had a very similar experience with the gray haired employee that is always there. Not sure why this person has a job at all. I worked at Cosmoprof in LA years ago and I can tell you 1000% you can call customer service and get a persons card number (using their name/phone number). When I told her I had misplaced my card on the move up to SF, she refused to look it up and said I didn't have a card! I tried to show her a picture of my cosmetology license in my phone and told her I would just call customer service myself for the number -- that's when she asked me to LEAVE the store. I was so shocked! She is extremely temperamental and I'm sorry after a full work day I don't want to deal with her. I went to Cosmoprof on 6th street today to pickup some hair color supplies. I was helped by Brian. Brian gave me the most comprehensive and educational customer service I can ever remember. He answered every single question with the utmost patients and knowledgeable information. He was very present and walked me threw the store. as a licensed professional cosmetologist, I have attended several training classes that could never compare to the level of education I received today from Brian. He would make an excellent education specialist for brands like Wella or framesi. I am surprised Brian is not working with his own clients in a high end salon as a master colorist making 250-400 dollars per client. This company truly has a golden one with Brian. I hope he is treated and compensated accordingly. read more

I love this Cosmoprof, its pretty well sized and has the best selections of color throughout the city. They also seem to have a great selections of dryers, flatirons (they carry ghd!!), nail supplies, and products. This store is for professionals only so to purchase anything in here you have to have a liscense or being a student. The bonus is that once you sign up at one cosmoprof the card works everywhere. the only downside is the location is that its a bit hard to get to however they stay open till 6 which is an hour later then Maly's so on those days you really need something before the next work day, it seems to work out well. read more

I went to this location to simply buy some lighter and toner to color my friends hair! So as soon as I walk in the manager Rudely asks me if I have a cosmo prof card? I do! I am a licensed cosmetologist! Mind you I have never been asked that until I'm checking out! Then she asks to see it still being rude af! So I give it to her I walk to the front and ask her for a price check on some lighter I didn't see how much it was posted! She tell me and my friend to get out! And that we can't shop there! I haven't been in there for 5min! My friend asks for the manager she's the manager so she says! We ask what the problem is She accuses me of stealing the lighter that I put in her face and ask for a price check! I open my bag for her to see I didn't take anything and showed her he lighter I put on the counter! Then she goes on to ask me why do I need a price check and tells me if I have been to cosmo prof before I wouldn't need a price check! Threatens to call the police on me and I haven't done anything! I am an African American dark skin women I definitely felt racially profiled! I have never been treated that way in my life anywhere! I came to Cosmoprof after work on Friday May 12, 2017 and I had a few questions for Marcus and he was very helpful, they also did not have all the new sale products but he stated that they would be coming in. Marcus has helped me a month before when i wanted to die my hair darker and cover my bayalage color and he agreed that the colors I chose would work. I absolutely enjoy the new face of this store with Marcus there. :) and will definitely be back. read more

As much as I love having a beauty supply right by my school, I absolutely hate going in here sometimes. The "tall guy" described in a lot o these other reviews gives me problems all the time. He has given me some horrific advice when I have asked him about hair services or product recommendations. I went back to restock on a certain glitter hair spray I had run out of (I do makeup and hair for a lot of sparkly events, haha), only to have him tell me they ran out a month ago and don't know when they'll get more because they "just get shipments whenever." So he recommended what he said was a similar product. I bought it, took it to the event and the nozzle IMMEDIATELY clogged up and was busted. 9$ down the drain and I had to throw glitter at people instead of spray it on. The women who work there have all been friendly toward me, and if I go in and he's not there then I have a good time. But I usually see him there, and it does kind of ruin the experience for me. Just make sure you never take his advice! If I had taken his advice my friend's hair would have fried off from the products he said to use. I wish there was another CosmoProf in SF... read more

Today, not the best day to go to Cosmo prof. Walked in and the asian girl with long black hair working at the cashier was talking with I assume are her group of friends, they all looked at us as we entered which was extremely awkward. Went to the cashier and she came walking from that group sitting by the door. First off, shouldn't a worker be working and dusting off the shelves? Because there are still lots to do even if it's not busy. So I had question and she answered them in a not so pleasent tone, she definitely did not solve my problem, nor did she want to from the vibe, walked out emptied handed. Won't come back if she's at the counter. It was very frustrating, like what someone once told me in a phone situation, if you don't like the tone on the other side, hang up because they won't help solve your problem. read more

I was extremely unhappy with the level of Customer Service received the Soma location on 6th street today. The young man who served me was very rude. I came to exchange a piece in my Brisa Lite pack which I had purchased the day before, the base coat was broken. First of all he was very disrespectful when I came to the counter after having picked up a few other items in the store before I did my exchange. He rudely said you are suppose to inform us of returns as soon as you walk in the store. I am the customer and I can come to the counter when I wish. These are the rules he says. Well there are no such rules at the Cosmo Prof in Canada or any other store I shop at and I am the customer and the customer is always right, what difference does it make, I have my receipt. He didn't want to do the exchange of the broken base coat because I had thrown away the package, well I wasn't leaving without my exchange. If a product breaks I do not need the package, it is broken, it wasn't that I didn't want it anymore. Then he told me all of the pieces were not there because the kit that he has, has another product. I said well I guess I was sold a faulty package and I need another piece as well. During this whole process he kept going to ask the manager questions. I would like to know why she never came to the counter to speak to me herself. Also the lady who sold me the package the day before had opened up the pack and checked to see what products were in it so she should know if something was missing, I think she was the manager. Well finally he says I will just give you a new base coat and I said what about the product thats missing, he said oh its not the same kit. I asked to see the kit to read the box and after major squinting, I think it may be a different kit (not sure why he said in the beginning that it was the same kit and he couldn't change a piece in my kit because I was missing a piece, that I wasn't suppose to have I guess), I am still not sure, I just wanted a new base coat that wasn't broken. I thought on my way home, why did he not open the pack so we could read instead of me squinting. He made me feel like a criminal like I had stolen it the day before but I have a receipt. Sorry to inform you but I am far from a criminal. I am a very well established women who does not deserve to be disrespect by a man as I was. read more

I really love this cosmoprof. I find that out of all the cosmoprofs this one has really knowledgeable and friendly workers. Being a hairstylist its great to find people who really know what they are talking about. I purchased my 76 clippers from there and was actually a better price than i expected. i was nervous to buy them online in case something happened to them. They have a really great return policy and are not pushy. I find going to a lot of these wholesale shops sometimes its hard to find what your looking for but they really have everything. Its also hard to find people who know hair products and tools really well. But my search is over. i was lucky enough to find Brian. He is so nice and one of those rare finds in retail who know everything and is not pushy at all. He is now my go to guy. Brian knows the producs t really well and not just the shampoo and dyes but tools as well. I wasn't sure what trimmers to get because everything i have tried had broke relatively fast and he sold me my soul mate trimmers. He's the best for all ways knowing the right product to give me. I should say this because a lot of people may not know shops like this are for Licensed stylist or estes only if you don't have one they cant sell you product but if you are with a license and really in a bind Brians your guy and this is a huge store.
