I walked in the Union Street store around 2 p.m. today. The sales clerk was engrossed in conversation with a rather loud and boisterous client who seem to be talking more than shopping. The clerk did stop for a moment to offer a curt hello followed by looking me up and down in a dismissive manner. It was clear he thought I didn't belong in Jo Malone. I spent just a few minutes in the store feeling very uncomfortable before leaving. The same sales clerk offered a terse goodbye and returned once again to his conversation with the other customer. As long as I can remember, the store makes me feel at ease. Which is funny since I dress like a bum. I never ever feel comfortable on this Main Street on Union or Chestnut street. Anything fancy and right away I am nervous. Never here because Sam and his crew are always so nice. Always so sweet and they made sure each time I popped in. Their priority is to make sure I find the right gifts. I come in often buying gifts for clients,friends and family. My whole idea of shopping is quick and never to stay too long. They have common sense to make things quick as possible for me. I appreciate that 100%. Also I love their Orange Blossom fragrance. It's my signature scent. I rarely change things once I am happy with it. I am a creature of habits which makes it kind of good and bad. So they suggested another fragrance that I would never even think about. Daffodils and sea salt. Refreshing and sweet is how I will describe it. Like running through an open field of daffodils close to a coastal line. And the other one is Jasmin and marigolds. This one reminds me of my childhood picking jasmine in an open field back in my home country. While making a lei for the temple with marigolds. The very scents of incense mixed with marigolds,jasmine,gardenias,Pikake and Michelia. These flowers each spring brings new joy for me to gather. So this one I kept and I bought it in big bottle. While the other one I bought it for my sister's birthday. I bought gifts so often here that I don't ever feel bad since everyone knows that Jo Malone are the best perfume out there. They make you feel welcome and have such great knowledge of all Jo Malone range. They help you pick the perfect scent. Went in to get a hand massage and it was super relaxing and zen. They helped me choose quiet a few different products which were WOW! The whole experience is always so much fun and luxurious. While it was a frustrating experience in the moment, I feel comfortable upgrading my rating to 5 stars for the prompt attention to the matter. I'll be back and during correct business hours. -------------------------- Visited Yelp to confirm the store would be open until 7:00p. After traveling for 30 minutes, I arrived at 6:40p on Friday to find the store locked up for the night. I've never been a big fan of going to buy fragrances in store as employees are sometimes pushy or stuck up if you ask to many questions, but not here, Samuel,Stephan, and Sherry make me feel so welcome when I come in. The short: beautiful ambiance and very personable associates This store is clean, modern, and classic, which embodies the brand very well. I walk in and start talking to Eleni. I explain that I have heard of the brand and wanted to know more about it so she talks about the history and the approach to their colognes. Yes, colognes. The brand's scents can be worn by everyone, whether it's a sharp citrus, a warm floral or a deep spice. Another specialty of this lineup is layering - one fragrance on its own may be great, but may be even better when complemented with another. I have no idea how long I'm in there for. Eleni is so approachable and takes her time helping me find something that I may be interested in. Amber also joined our conversation, making the whole experience wonderful. Later on, we all remarked how funny it was when a couple stopped by the front of the store and the girl cried out "Jo Malone!" and didn't walk inside. Apparently, this is a common occurrence for this store haha. Why not go inside? Don't be shy! The people here are friendly and personable. I had a gift box with a candle and a perfume that didn't suit my personality and previously had a snafu with returning it. However, I went back today and Stefano made the exchange SO easy and fun! He suggested all the best scents, showed me all the combination of products I could get for the return price or offered a full credit back, and even gave me a little gift to make up for the previous inconvenience. He was extremely kind and made the experience really seamless and stress free and tied the best bow I've ever seen. Super bummed they don't have the ginger snap scent anymore, but the customer service here is some of the best I've had in a long time. First class experience! So I was sold on Jo Malone after smelling Poppy and Barley from a sample my daughter was wearing awhile back... purchased Poppy and Barley last year and LOVE it. Finding out there was a whole store devoted to Jo Malone around the corner from my son's house was a such a fun bonus during my travels! What a wonderful experience with Samuel and Stefan...No kidding they took such good care of us indulging me to smell literally every scent they had to offer, trying them out on my skin, and selecting my newest scent. Bought $130 worth of perfume today and they say they have a complimentary hand arm massage. I made an appointment and the definitely didn't honor it and took someone else keeping me waiting because they were trying to make other sales. I guess I should have waited on purchasing, as maybe they would have been more likely to honor it! Also the next day when I opened my perfume box that I purchased, the perfume was wrong and I had to go back for the third time. The manager called to speak with me about my experience and to offer her gratitude left me a voicemail that she'd like to offer me a complimentary hand arm massage. I am so happy I stopped by here! When I initially walked in, the store is very inviting. There was one person in the store and she greeted me hello. I didn't get her name but she was very helpful. It was the end of her shift so she directed me to her coworker Eleni who was the best! I have never heard of layering perfume before and she had a lot of good suggestions. I ended up getting the peony and blush suede to pair with the english pear and freesia. I am in love!! It smells so romantic. I literally cannot stop smelling myself. When I made my purchase she told me to make an appt for a hand massage next time. Wha.....I'll have to look into this. FYI I am not a perfume person at all. According to the other reviews (and my own experience) all the negative experiences here are created by the same sales associate (holier-than-thou Asian dude with glasses). He is always there, ready to be rude and uptight. My husband and I purchase Jo Malone items frequently, as gifts and especially for my mother-in-law, who loves one of the scents. Once we walked up to an open tester that was labeled "Try Me" so we tried out the cream. This sales associate rushed over (he has been ignoring us up until that point) and said, "um, there are spatulas aren't there" but there weren't any, and he had to dig through a drawer dramatically, found some, and put them out after admonishing us for trying the lotion that was on a tray next to the large "Try Me" sign. He walked away saying with the most attitude ever, "this isn't Sephora," implying we weren't welcome to test the tester. That's right, this isn't Sephora, where you feel welcome and it's always busy, full of customers purchasing products, whereas this Jo Malone is always empty (I walk by all the time as I live nearby). Avoid this location; the company should know that this guy is doing an awful job representing the brand. read more

Lawrence was exceptionally educational and super friendly! He re-educated me to how to correctly apply cologne and even prepped my husband and I before we left the store! This place this place .... being African American in pacific heights of San Francisco is so hard. I walked in this store and all 3 employees rushed towards me and asked did I need any help. Now normally I would be flattered to have all the attention but this attention was not good. They followed me around this small store like I was shoplifting. I was not the only customer in the store either. Three women came inside and the employees was so into me they did not even greet the other customers but focused on me. I had to be honest with the employees. I told them I feel really uncomfortable in this store being that I am being followed. Once they knew I noticed what they were doing they backed off a little. After I decided on what cologne to get. I went to the register the guy employee ( I know not so descriptive ) he asked me what I was doing after this , I told him some more shopping at Barney's downtown. He asked me who was my personal shopper and that he knows everybody, plus he use to work there. I do not need personal shoppers I told him. Thats when he obviously rolled his eyes at me like I was beneath him. Never again will I shop here... never never never !!! read more

I absolutely LOVE Jo Malone's fragrances and I've always purchased at a Nordstrom or Bloomingdales. However, I received a gift card for my birthday and instantly learned it could only be used online or at at Jo Malone boutique. I researched and found there was a boutique in the beautiful city of San Francisco so I called to confirm that my gift card was in fact accepted. Since the Jo Malone boutique was located in SF I figured why not make a day out of it and hangout with my daughters and granddaughter, so I invited them to come along. Little did I know we were in for a treat with two of the best sweethearts ever, Lorence and Francisco. They literally rolled out the Red Carpet for us and I mean they made us feel like we were celebrities. It was as if they threw a "surprise" private party for us. They went above and beyond to make our day extra special by educating us on the fragrances and how they can be used, they served us sparking water in nice champagne glasses, and the best part is they gave us hand massages as though we were in a spa setting. It was definitely an epic experience that we''ll always remember. In addition, we left feeling great, smelling lovely, and with some great recommendations for dinner and dessert.
