Their specials are usually very good too. My personal favorite is the Rabe TJ's (broccoli rabe, tomato jam, fresh mozzarella) with bacon added. I usually also get the cucumber Spindrift seltzer to wash down my sandwich. With a husband and wife duo that cut their teeth at America's Test Kitchen, it's not surprise that they serve such creative and delicious food! The service is always great and speedy. I only tried Cutty's in the first place because the Boston Globe listed it's "Roast Beef 1000" as one of the best dishes in the city. They were dead on. It's a wonderful sandwich: Salt cured, slow cooked, thin sliced roast beef, fresh Thousand Island dressing, provolone and these amazing crispy shallots for a crunchy texture. Excellent stuff! In fact it took me four visits before I could convince myself to try anything else. The Spuckie was a perfect follow-up! I normally believe in a nice, simple Italian combo sub, but the carrot-olive slaw they add to it is a very memorable flavor. They asked me if I wanted it warmed and I hesitated. Don't hesitate. Get it warmed so that the fresh mozzarella gets all melty. Now, not everything there is perfect. The Grilled Cheese sandwich was actually quite average, the homemade potato chips were a good idea, but too papery thin, and the Brown Sugar Cookies are tasty but overpriced. In fact, while I appreciate the concept of good quality food served fast, everything in there is pricey for a sandwich shop. Oh, and it really isn't that fast. Everytime I've been in there it's seemed like a long wait for my order, in a smallish space that gets crowded. But the creativity of the sandwiches, along with their quality, is enough to overlook the flaws. I'll round a 4 1/2 star score up to an affectionate 5. read more

I wish I could come here more often, but every time I do, it is definitely worth the 40 minute walk. The eggplant spuckie is my favorite sandwich I've tried here (the carrot olive slaw is drool worthy), but the pork rabe on Saturdays is also really good. I have now had the chance to try the chicken sandwiches and they definitely live up to the hype! I like the BBQ one, and my husband likes the honey mustard. The new spicy one is good but definitely like the others better. They use quality ingredients and the bread is nice and crisp to hold up to the inside of the sandwich. The limeade is also perfect - it tastes just like the fresh squeezed limeade my grandma used to make. Lots of fresh lime flavor and not too sweet. Get a large! If you are fortunate enough to come on Friday or Saturday, you must try something from Breadboard Bakery. I definitely recommend the kolaches - delicious yeasted dough filled with fruit and cream cheese. Being from Texas I can tell you this is the real thing! The wacky cake is also great - super moist chocolate cake with a buttery mocha frosting. Service is quick and friendly, even though there is usually a bit of a line. There are about 8 small tables for dine-in, but depending when you visit they can be full. Still totally worth the trip. read more

A unique, semi-trendy sammy stop in Brookline. The menu is small, but the choices are superb so you won't feel like you're missing anything. Saturdays are amazing for their pork sandwiches, or try their Roast Beef 1000 any day of the week. Everything tastes fresh and the quality is amazing. The pork rabe is indeed good. Although it's on the pricey side at $9, it's made with all local, all homemade ingredients, and was tasty and pretty filling to boot. The sesame bread was really crispy on the outside (a bit too crispy I though, actually) but light and fluffy on the inside, and was a nice complement to the juicy pork and the bitter, garlicy rabe. Some parts of the sandwich were warmish, others were cold, which was a bit of a disconnect... I'd prefer if the whole thing was hot, that would take this sandwich to the next level. Also, I probably could have gone with a bit more cheese as well. But overall, although I'm not as impressed with it as some other Yelpers, it was a solid sandwich that I'd be happy to eat again. For some reason I am addicted to the Greens Bacon. Probably because it's just addicting fatty goodness on the inside with the acidity of the cooked down swiss chard counterbalancing it all. I really love the Pork Fennel but just wish it was served "hotter." The heat comes from the press (which really makes the sandwich). I love how crispy the outside seeded roll becomes from the press. Had the roast pork with the provolone and broccoli rabe, which is a blatant rip-off of the famous Philly sandwich at DiNic's in the Reading Terminal. Listen, if you are gonna rip-off a regional classic like that, you better bring your A game. This sandwich was not even close. Not flavorful enough, the roll was a bit too crusty and that took away from the sandwich, and it was too damn small. And it was $8.95! No thanks. I'm still hungry. I've been reading about Cutty's for years and there just happens to be a bus that can get me there in a reasonable amount of time despite living all the way across the River. When I finally made the trip out, I ordered the roast beef 1000 and although the sandwich was nicely constructed, I felt that is was pretty pricey and wasn't close to being filling enough for a meal. You'll definitely need some add ons. The sandwich seemed like it needed more balance. It seemed my sandwich was only bread meat and some thousand island sauce. The sharp cheddar and crispy shallots were totally lost. Next time I'll try the spuckie or a Saturday only pork sandwich. I would definitely recommend a visit as the quality is certainly there, but just be ready to spend more than $10 for a full meal. read more

I was really excited to hear about a great sandwich shop opening in Brookline Village, and Cutty's lives up to the hype. During the span of one week I ate here 3 times (I had to get my fill before going back to California). My favorites: Spuckie (make sure to get it hot off the panini press) and the Roast Beef 1000 I'll pass next time: egg salad (boring, nothing to it) and the potato chips (way too salty). I've been here three times-- every meal I order the roast beef 1000. It is slow-roasted beef, crispy shallots, 1000 island, sharp cheddar, and brioche. I didn't know what shallots or brioche were-- but this sandwich has surplanted the Reuben as my new favorite. These guys give me faith that good sandwiches are yet to be discovered. I showed up planning on getting the pork rabe, but turns out they only offer that on Saturdays. I was struggling with what to get right until I saw the special sandwich of pulled pork, spicy mayo, pickled onions, and cilantro on a sesame roll. Yesyesyesyseyes. The pork was salty and plentiful, the mayo spicy and flavorful, the onions crunchy and fresh, and the cilantro providing my favorite herb flavors ever. They even toasted the roll right before serving it so it had that toasty sesame flavor. I ate the entire thing in maybe 5 minutes. WHOOPS! TOO TASTY TO STOP. Was able to stop in at Cuttys today and take advantage of their Saturday special, Roast pork with pickled fennel, roast garlic on a sesame seed roll. Was a nice quick meal roll was very nice and crispy and still nice and fluffy inside. The roasted garlic was spread on the bottom of the roll and gave a nice garlicky taste. The pickled fennel possibly my favorite part of the whole sandwich, I'm not sure I've ever had fennel prepared this way but i thought it was great, I just wish there was a bit more packed into the sandwich. Overall it tasted great but I would have liked a bit more, I'm left feeling a little hungry still. Cant wait till they get their breakfast sandwiches up and going I know Ill be back for sure for some of those. read more

Only went on Sunday for their Cluckin Sunday chicken sandwich because I noticed a line out the door. Figured this must be something special. The sandwich was tasty but was it worth $11 and a wait of about 15-20 minutes. Probably not. The sandwich came with WAY too much mayo. The bun was also slightly soggy due to the mayo and warmth of the chicken. I am glad I tried it but felt I could get a comparable fried chicken sandwich from Wendy's for half the price. Atmosphere: B+ Nothing spectacular or extraordinary but the decor is just fine. Food: A+ This is what you really care about. Just get the Roast Beef 1000. In fact, get 2. You need to get 2 because 1 is not enough. I'm certain they spike that Roast Beef 1000 with something illegal because it is addictive and delicious. Seriously, get the roast beef 1000. Value: A- The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because of the price- and that's it! For the amount of food you get (which is not a lot if you're a big dude), then you'll be done with your sandwich in three bites. You are paying a premium for fresh, local ingredients which is great. Hipsters and rich people love that stuff! You will, too. But big people who eat more than normal portions (such as I) will leave hungering for more. I highly recommend Cutty's if you're skinny! I saw this place on TV and during our stay in Boston we had to give it a try. I have to say this was the second best sandwich I had in years. Second best only because I cannot remember all the sandwiches I had in the recent years ;) Anyways I had the Roast Beef 1000 and it was really good. The shop is rather small and I would assume there is a queue during lunch time, so don't expect a big restaurant. Okay guys. I went here because the good folks at America's Test Kitchen recommended that I check this place out. If ATK tells you to go anywhere - you go. I was so impressed by their big chalkboard listing their use of all local products from Iggy's bread, Tazo's chocolate, and Cabot cheese. I was already sold even before trying the food. I had an event later in the day so wanted to pick up a veggie sandwich that would last. I asked the nice lady working behind the counter and she recommended the fantastic eggplant and cheese sandwich. I love sandwiches and Cutty's makes some of the best I've ever had. I had visited a few years ago after reading about it on Serious Eats and even with all of the great options in the Boston area it has always been on my hit list when I come to visit the area. On this last visit, we visited on a Saturday and my girlfriend and I split a pork rabe and a custom roast beef with dijon mustard, pickles and provolone cheese. The pork rabe was almost perfect is every way. The sesame roll was crusty and chewy without being too abrasive to the mouth and complemented the insides nicely. The pork was tender, salty and sweet and just a bit fatty which fought for supremacy in the sandwich with the full on bitterness of the broccoli rabe. Their rabe had solid chunks of both lightly cooked leaves and stems and was one of the more bitter and fresh versions I've had. The sharp provolone added some needed smoothness to the party and completed a pretty fantastic sandwich. My only complaint is that it is served cold instead of warm. With fatty meats, I prefer that warming to allow the fats to be just a bit lighter and not coat the inside of your mouth. We got a customized roast beef on their extra crusty ciabatta bread instead of their classic Roast Beef 1000 because of my high hatred of 1000 Island dressing, ruiner of potentially delicious Reubens all over the country. The roast beef was perfectly cooked and the vinegary mustard and pickles were both solid. The limeade we got wasn't too sweet and was plenty limey and acidic. Big fan of the limes! Gotta go here if you're in Boston and like great food cheap. The only caveat is that they are crazy busy on the weekends around lunchtime becuase of their recent exposure on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive Ins and Dives so plan accordingly! read more

It was quiet when we went but I could see seating being an issue if more than a few couples were here at once. Saw this place on Diner, Drive-ins, & Dives... Don't judge....and it happened to be super close to my doctors office so I was very excited to try it when I came into town! I'm kind of sad to say I am pretty disappointed. I was aware that I wouldn't be able to have the special sandwiches they only do on weekends but I still had high expectations for the rest of the menu. I had the Ham pimento on a baguette and my mom had the eggplant on ciabatta both pressed in a panini press. My sandwich was okay but not amazing the ham was more like prosciutto/pancetta I wanted something a little more hearty & the pimento cheese was nothing to write home about. My mom did not like hers at all. Too oily and eggplant was cut too thin. The chips were really good though! Not greasy and nice and crunchy! I'm glad I got to try this place & I would try again but it did not meet my expectations. read more
