"Celebrating Mama Bear" 04-18-26 My family and I visited Cutten Kitchen together for the first time, and we absolutely loved it. My eldest sister was the one who searched for places to celebrate our mother's birthday, and she definitely picked a winner. She felt like this would have been a restaurant our mom would have truly enjoyed if she were still here on this earth, and she got it right. Let me count the reasons why Mama would have loved this restaurant: the aesthetics, the well-seasoned food, the lively vibe, the soulful energy of the atmosphere, and the wonderful customer service. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the hostess, Victoria, whose professionalism and mannerisms were spot on. She was so friendly and welcoming. She held the door open for us when we entered, and she even held it open again when we left. Our server, Daniella, matched that same level of professionalism. She was not intimidated or nervous by our group at all. She greeted us warmly, introduced herself, and took our drink and appetizer orders with ease and confidence, which let me know she knew exactly what she was doing. She also offered great drink suggestions that we really enjoyed. I do not want to bore you with a long, drawn-out review, so I'll keep this part simple. The atmosphere is welcoming, with music playing at a nice medium volume through the overhead speakers. The dining room is extremely spacious and clean. Food Ratings: Fried Catfish/Shrimp Platter - 4/5 Both were fried to perfection, with nice crunchy edges and a soft, succulent, meaty texture inside. However, it was a bit too salty for my health. Fried Fish and Grits Platter - 5/5 My younger sister said she could taste the authenticity of Black culture in the well-seasoned grits and she enjoyed them. The CK Burger - 5/5 My son said this burger was delicious, and he tore it up too! The CK Patty Melt - 5/5 My eldest sister said it was delicious and felt like it melted in her mouth with every bite. Salmon Bites Appetizer - 5/5 Fried to perfection and surprisingly not too salty. Fried Plain Wings/Lemon Pepper Wings/French Fries - 5/5 Everything was served piping hot and extra crispy. Deviled Eggs Appetizer - 5/5 Everyone around the table loved these babies. My eldest sister said she did not care too much for the fried chicken tender on top, but overall, they were still a hit. Dirty Rice - 1/5 Too salty and too greasy for my liking. It also lacked the authenticity I was hoping for. Mac and Cheese - 5/5 According to my daughter, the mac and cheese was a 5/5. However, it did have a spicy kick, so my son gave it a 4/5. If you like spicy mac and cheese, then you will probably love theirs. Collard Greens - 5/5 This item stole the show for me. The collard greens were delicious, not too salty, and seasoned just right. Here's the shocker: instead of using pork in their collards, they used turkey neck. I was genuinely impressed because a lot of people believe pork is the only way to get that deep, flavorful taste in greens, but Cutten Kitchen proved otherwise. Blueberry Lemon Drop - 5/5 This drink may seem girlie, but it hit like a man. Sitting Sideways Cocktail - 5/5 This one hits just right and gives you a nice little buzz. Pineapple Upside Down Crown - 4/5 It was a little too sweet and did not have enough liquor for me, but it was still delicious after I poured an extra shot of Crown in it. Overall, Cutten Kitchen is an upbeat, lively, and soulful establishment that offers some of the best Southern cuisine in the area. I highly recommend this place if you love authentic soul food, great customer service, and a vibrant atmosphere. FYI: Parking is plentiful, but it would probably be best to make a reservation beforehand. I have heard this place can get packed. read more

We drove over 30 minutes in a bad storm for the live entertainment that never showed that lost them a star, but we were hungry so stayed for the food, which according to other reviews was really good. I beg to differ. I ordered the Corn dog, Mac n cheese, fried okra and the honey butter corn bread was complimentary. I had asked for my okra extra crispy and not only did it come mushy, but it was also pretty cold by time it reached the table. The Mac n Cheese was cold and so greasy I couldn't even finish it. As for the corn dog, it was the only thing that showed up hot and it wasn't even cooked all the way through! It was all golden looking on the outside, but mushy on the inside. The service was basically non existent and being busy wasn't the reason. We're going to end this review on a positive note because I truly dislike writing bad reviews, but they are necessary for the sake of honesty. The ONLY reason they're getting the two stars is for the cornbread which was an ooey gooey, honey buttery mouthful of happy and would be the only thing I recommend (of what I had) there. I would have sent everything back had I been able to locate our waitress. Came here on a Saturday night to celebrate my bday with some friends. The place was not packed and we we able to sit right away. For some reason it took a whole for someone to come to our table and one of the girls said she will be our server since we kept getting overlooked. I guess they didn't want to make money that night. For a table over 5 they charge an automatic 18%gratuity. Also, I noticed they had new menus and the drinks used to be $10 are now $15. The shrimp and grits is my fave but this night the grits were so thick and not tasty at all. Was not worth the price. I should've stuck with the wings which are really good. read more

Best service I've seen in a long time. Friendly faces, very polite and attentive. Perfect hangout spot, Very scenic for pictures. I came with a large party and the upkeep with the table needs was fantastic. Drinks, appetizers and food came out together for a table of twelve. However the food look delicious but lacked in flavor in our opinion. My crab fingers was the best thing I had, I didn't finish the mash or greens. Maybe our tastebuds were off last night. I went to the meal wheel to decide on lunch on a lazy Saturday afternoon. So glad I chose the Cutten Kitchen. Parking was scarce but we found a spot. We expected it to be super busy inside but already made a reservation online. No need, we were seated right away. Ashley was our waitress and was such a delight. She had recommendations for us and was very attentive. I got the mimosa with passion fruit to start. The menu is available by QR or in print. It was so hard to decide what to get. I ended up with the fish, shrimp and grits. I had them fry the fish, it was fried perfectly, the shrimp were grilled and the grits were yummy. We got a square of delicious cornbread. It had that skillet taste to it. Wasn't sweet like I like it but still really good. My husband got chicken fried chicken with fries, he is not very adventurous. He enjoyed the food, but no brown gravy so he was bummed. He didn't like the cream gravy too much. Prices were good for the food and the atmosphere was fun with nice music playing and the restaurant was buzzing with excitement. We will definitely be back. The service was terrible and what made it worst was the server saw me paying with a credit card but it was also cash in my wallet so she said can you give me my tip as cash because on the card is like a check. I haven't tried many items here but I've gotten the wings a couple of times and they are very good. They are large, made fresh and the lemon pepper flavor is really good. My one complaint is that the wings are always hairy!!! I know every now and then it's normal to have a feather or two on a wing but it's a common occurrence here! It makes me question their chicken vendor or cleaning process. The wings are very good though so if you don't mind some feathers try them lol. Ordered, to go, the deviled eggs (amazing), crab cakes (also amazing), chicken fried chicken (small portion for the price), and the chicken fried steak..... the chicken fried steak was tough, dry and way overcooked. They did not pack the gravy for either meals and so I had to go back to get it. I've eaten here a few times and had excellent service and food but this experience has left me not wanting to go back. For $100 I expect way more than chicken fried jerky and missing items from my order. read more

I made a good little 45 minute commute from my side of town to meet a friend here at Cutten Kitchen. I had never heard of this spot prior to coming so I didn't know what to expect. It's a pretty casual restaurant that offers a brunch menu all day on Sunday. It was also kid friendly, which is what we were looking for as my friend was bringing her daughter. We were sat immediately upon arrival and we had great serviced from all the ladies that came over and checked on us throughout our visit.n For my drink, I ordered an Island Ting which was a blend of rum punch and a house margarita. It wasn't bad but I feel like they used bottom shelf liquor as I was getting a little after taste from it. My friend ordered the Sittin Sidewayz and it was pretty strong but again I would've preferred a better liquor. I'm assuming it was the Tequila in the house margarita that I wasn't too crazy about. Nonetheless, it's reasonably priced and served in a tall glass. For my meal, I order the brunch sampler which was a phenomenal deal to me for $30! It came with 2 lamb chops, 3 chicken tenders. A side of potatoes, greens and eggs! Like this was almost enough to feed a family. There were some hits and misses though. The lambchops were perfect for me and the chicken tenders were cool. My eggs were undercooked (I asked for scrambled hard) and the potatoes could've been cooked a little more for me as well but I tasted the masked potatoes too and they were much better and very well seasoned. We finally made it after seeing this place on TikTok and it was very much worth the wait!! The complimentary cornbread was so good! It was warm and a great way to start the meal. Our appetizer was the deviled eggs with shrimp and they did not disappoint. Flavorful and the lightly breaded shrimp on top made it even better. My husband had the pork chops with mashed potatoes and corn. He thoroughly enjoyed his meal. He also enjoyed his raspberry mojito. I had the catfish mardi gras. The catfish was blackened perfectly. It was served with dirty rice and greens. My meal was fantastic!! I definitely see myself having it again. The portions were just right. I really loved my strawberry mimosa. The staff was very attentive and friendly. They took care of us and checked in on us throughout the meal. I love that!! The music they were playing set the vibe and I saw several people singing along to the music. They also have a couple of places for great photo opportunities. Good location plenty of parking and amazing food. I was a bit confused when I got there because no one welcomed us or was at the hostess stand. After a few minutes I sat myself in the bar area. They have both a qr code menu and an actual menu. I ordered the chicken friend chicken with mashed potatoes and greens. And my aunt got the same sides with chicken fried steak. The complimentary cornbread and the food was delicious. The mashed potatoes were seasoned well and the gravy was prepared well. I do feel like the chicken was quite small for chicken fried chicken. The greens although good they were on the salty side. Of the drinks ordered the lemon drop was the best. I had high expectations for the blue raspberry lemon drop but it was not what I expected. Too sour and half frozen half liquid which was weird and disnt look like the photos. Service could have been better I feel like they didn't have enough staff on duty. I attended a couple's wedding shower on Saturday for some close friends of mine. The service was amazing and the manager Andre was attentive and professional. However I personally would never book an event or large gathering at this restaurant because of the owner Maria. Bride and grooms experience with Maria was both unprofessional and disheartening to say the least. They had booked this event in November of 2025 and agreed with Maria to pay for 80 people upfront, and settle the remaining balance after the event. The DAY BEFORE THE EVENT, Maria called and demanded that they pay for 100 people upfront instead of the agreed upon 80! And to make matters worse, when the bride tried to settle this with Maria, Maria hung up in her face several times and threatened to cancel the event!! This caused the bride and groom unnecessary stress and made them feel uneasy about continuing the event here. The only positive was the Manager Andrea and the amazing staff. I visited on a Monday around lunchtime, and there was no wait to be seated. Our server, Marcus, took a little while to acknowledge us, but he apologized and I appreciated that. Now to the food. I started with the blueberry Lemon Drop 10/10, highly recommend. They definitely didn't skimp on the alcohol, and it was absolutely delicious. We ordered the crawfish egg rolls , and all I can say is: FYYYE! For my meal, I had the fried catfish and grits. I'm not usually a big fan of catfish, but this dish was excellent. The grits were a bit thicker than I prefer, but still packed with flavor. My wife ordered the fried catfish with shrimp and dirty rice, macaroni n cheese and she couldn't stop raving about how good it was. It feels great to support a Black owned business on the North Side that delivers both great food and good service. My first impression of Cutten Kitchen was a good one. I was greeted by the host with a smile and was quickly seated. It took them a minute to round up my waitress, but she was friendly as well. She was very informative and very hospitable. The restaurant was clean and all of the staff were friendly (I was checked on multiple times...Love that!). The bartender personally brought over my happy hour margarita which I normally do not do frozen but it was strong and flavorful. I ordered coffee and it was ice cold so...I politely asked them to take it off my tab and sent it back. They obliged with no issues. The complimentary cornbread was warm, buttery and was definitely made from scratch. It was a nice touch. The deviled eggs were different. Sriracha based mostly within the mix and in the sweet dipping sauce. I love the texture of the mixture, but would have loved some scallions or chives to he placed on top of the eggs for color and pop. That said, I loved them. I ordered the plain version but they offer chicken and shrimp as toppers with an up charge. The chicken & waffles are excellent here! By far the best I have had in Houston. Chicken was seasoned to the God's! Smokin' Hot in temp when it arrived to my table. The Waffle was sweet and fluffy and shaped like our good old state of Texas (nice touch). The stone grits were cooked as if it were my Granny back in the kitchen whipping them up. My friend and I fund Cutten through social media. We saw different food vloggers who reviewed this place and of course had great things to say....for this review, i'll just stick to the food. :( There was so much other things going on that were not a great first impression but, i'll spare you the details... Initially, our waiter brought us 2 miniature pieces of complementary cornbread. Since out food took so long to come out, she gave us more cornbread and the portion was as pictured (this was the portion that was advertised on socials as well). We got the seafood eggrolls for an app. The filling of the eggrolls were delicious but it was just so tough biting through the eggroll shell. For my entree I ordered the seafood platter that comes with one catfish fillet, four shrimp, and tenders. Chicken with a seafood platter is very odd, but I decided to try anyway. I originally ordered corn for one of my sides, but sent it back because it was super Duper salty. The catfish was super fishy to where I could not even eat it. Visiting Cuttin Kitchen after church. This is our 2nd visit. We had a situation with the prices in the beginning. Their table menu stated "Mimosas & Bloody Mary's $3" However, the waitress stated they were $5 now. She said the table topper was old. Well,my point was remove it from the table or cross out $3 and put $5. I asked for the manager. JD came over to exclaim the same thing. " the table topper is old, but those 2 specials were now $5." I stated that by having the sign up is "false advertisement. I then advised him that I would post online that they aren't honoring what's posted in his restaurant. He stated, " that's fine, but it's now $5." I ordered the drink anyway. JD brought the drink over. Later, he brought a $10 off card on our NEXT visit to make up for the disagreement. Well, this is admirable,but was it necessary to go through all of that or just give $2 off the drink? If this was my business, I would have given $2 off and took that small hit. Now I'm feeling some kind of way. We brought our daughter there because we enjoyed the 1st visit. She didn't agree with the manager JD eithrr and couldn't belive he didn't just give what's being advertised. This ordeal could have been avoided. The waitress seemed perturbed in the very beginning, especially when I asked for the manager. She was the same waitress we had on our first visit. We received the check and low and behold, the drink price they put on our ticket was $3. Why didn't the Manger, just accept liability and make our lunch pleasurable. We drove all the was from our church in Humble to go there. My Intention was to NOT leave a tip due to the service received, They provided a $10 card for the next visit, so I would catch them on the tip for the next visit. Hower, but thankfully they made good on their stated prices and I left a 20% tip. I'm unsure I would return or recommend anyone to visit this establishment. Originally, I told several people, but now they've showed me how ungrateful and unconcerned they are for making their customer happy. This falls in line with a lot of businesses today. So sad. I'm a black business owner and my clients are way to valuable to lose 1. It's your choice. PS: the food was much better the 1st time. The cornbread was not hot. The food wasn't seasoned like before. So me and my mom ended up going here just to get something to eat and waste some time while we were cleaning the house and walking in the place looks really nice really good. So as for the food, it was a four out of 10 it took about a good 30 minutes for our food to come out and not all of our order was even taken down right and once everyone's food got there at the table nobody had silverware that took an extra 10 minutes for someone to bring us something to eat because we were all just sitting there, looking at each other with hot food and nothing to eat it with the server she was OK. This was my first time at Cutten and I really like the vibe. Great music of all types and tvs to watch sports. The food was good with different options. I had the meatloaf which was tender and juicy. I also had the deviled eggs which was a nice twist with the fried chicken bites. The service was off as our waiter appeared to be extremely busy. I think if they had more staff that would help.
