This restaurant is located at the Old Surf Rider location at Greenbrier. The inside has been revamped with nice tropical colors and island vibe touches throughout. They serve delicious Jamaican food and a legit Rum Punch. We started with jerk shrimp tacos. I had the special: a blackened grouper with a crawfish cream sauce, fried plantains and peas and rice which is kidney beans and rice. I loved every single bite. My husband had fried whiting and added fried shrimp. Crispy, delicious, fresh. It was a bit over salted and my husband searched for a sauce because he's a dipper but you couldn't ask for fresher or tastier seafood. Our waitress Kerri-an was delightful and provided great service. Our only regret is we missed the steel drums they have on Saturday nights. We'll definitely be back. read more

Definitely one to checkout. Everything I've had there I like personally. The drink selection is impeccable! Frozen and drinks on the rocks. They also have a really nice patio that they play live music on. When In Chesapeake check them out. read more

My first trip to Cutlass Grille was amazing. The restaurant was really cute and brought the VIBES! Felt like I was in Monetego Bay for real. lol My drink was amazing, and I got the Jerk Lamb Chops w/ a side of mac. I'm Caribbean, and finding good Caribbean eats can be pretty difficult. This place though 10/10 for my first time, will definitely be returning! read more

The jerk chicken isn't spicy for the sake of being spicy, it's the most WELL-SEASONED jerk chicken I have EVER. HAD. The mini beef patties are delish but WHAT IS THAT SAUCE?!? *chefs kiss* The fried fish was cooked to a perfectly crunchy and seasoned golden brown. Each grain of rice and peas was METICULOUSLY perfect; not too soft, not too firm and I don't know about you but it's only once in a blue moon that I feel like a rice dish literally melts in my mouth. I can't say enough about how well prepared every dish is here. The baked beans with brisket is also impeccable. I can't wait to try literally EVERYTHING ELSE. P.S. they're hiring for waitstaff. If I wasn't busy myself I would work there just to be near good food lmao. read more

First time here and had a great experience! A lot of different choices and I'll definitely be back to try some other food items. First came in looked at the drink menu and got the Blue Ray, then I ordered wings and the curry goat. They gave me some fresh baked bread and food came out within 10-15 minutes. Food was really flavorful and filling. Think next time I'll try the oxtail. read more

Simply AMAZING. I'm from Maryland and thought that we had some pretty nice Jamaican restaurants, but they've got nothing on the cutlass grille. The food is amazing, the drinks are the delicious and it even has a nice atmosphere. I went on a Friday night and they were playing live music as we walked in. My only complaint would be that the food took FOREVER to come out. We waited at least half an hour. Other than that I had a stellar experience and I can't wait to come back! read more

I've been there several times. Good food great atmosphere. They are packed sometimes but still receive great service

What an amazing meal! I got the stewed chicken and my husband got the jerk chicken. We both got the rice and peas and plantains as sides. Both meals were falling off the bone tender and my stew chicken was in an awesome gravy. We took home a hunk of coconut cake to split later. Highly recommended and Jasmine was fabulous. read more

I came here by myself in Friday night and everyone here looked at me like why a young girl like me could go alone in Friday night and well every customer there that night went with their friends lol. But well I did enjoy my Jerk Chicken and bread that they gave me for the appetizer. I love their bread. Really really like it. With my Jerk Chicken, I added 2 sides which are rice and black beans and fried sweet plantain. Those were good and I absolutely will come back read more

If there is any place outside your own mother's kitchen that uses love as an active ingredient in their food, it's Cutlass Grille. It's evident in every single bite that comes off the plate of food that is put in front of you. I could tell you how tender and flavorful the jerk chicken is. I could tell you how creamy the mac-n-cheese is. I could tell you how the baked beans practically melt in your mouth. I could tell you how dessert-like the fried plantains are. I could tell you I would bathe in the chopped brisket bbq if I could. I could tell you that I'd like for the family who owns and runs Cutlass to adopt me and teach me the secret family recipes. But none of that does you any good if you don't go experience it for yourself. Do yourself a favor... go... now. I'll meet you there. read more

This place came a long way from their previous location near the DMV. I'm happy to see this place moved to something bigger and made a stamp in the restaurant business! As before, the food is very good. The BBQ grilled jerk chicken is much better then how some restaurants will baked it and then smother the chicken in jerk sauce. The jerk here is tender and juicy with the right kind of spice. I will say the con is that you only get 2 small pieces of meat, for example dark meat consist of 1 wing and 1 small thigh. The sides were equally great! Oh and the Mac and cheese!! Let me tell you... It's your great grandma's - cousin's - sister's first husband - auntie - who made this Mac and cheese because it's creamy with strong cheddar cheese flava! Ok so maybe you've had better but for a restaurant the quality here is the best. I also had the fish/shrimp combo and the shrimp was the jumbo size. Both were seasoned well. The batter was not too heavy, something that can be appreciated. They had a saxophone player on the Friday night I was there, he sounds pretty good. There's also a full bar, but this night I did my order to-go but will definitely be back real soon to dine in and enjoy some more of the jerk chicken and music! read more

I must say...I have driven by this place multiple times, but did not think once to stop in. And this was due to me not even knowing the type of food they served. Sooooooooooooo...how I ended up here, I had a craving for some curry chicken. My bff mentioned this place by name, and I was like hmmmm I heard of it, but wasn't sure of it's location. So he guided me in the right direction and would you know, it was this place I had been constantly driving by for months now. Well the wait and wantedness was finally over. This is really a neat spot in the heart of Chesapeake. It can be found in a strip mall setting in a relatively great area of the city...Battlefield Blvd. The hostess was cute and eagered to get us seated. Dining tonight: myself, my bff and my babygirl. I thought hmmmm eat-in or get it to-go. There were only 3 booths avaiable for seating, so we figured why not dine-in for the full experience. I must say...I enjoyed my meal from start to finish. My only complaint, the meal took a little over 20 minutes to reach the table. However, the waitress did her part in keeping us informed, but I was seriously hungry! In the meantime, I checked out the passing of plates and everything was looking devine and smelled even greater! This didn't help the long wait either. Well our food arrived and I was somewhat disappointed, because I felt the portion was a bit selfish. But ummmmm...I ate it all and was super full!! So um yeah...looks are deceiving. The portions are definitely filling. I had the curry chicken with rice and cabbage. I suggest you get at the rice at least if you order curry chicken. The rice helped the chicken out a great deal. The curry sauce wasn't even enough to get the full effect of the flavoring. And some how how the rice was prepared it paired perfectly with the chicken. My daughter enjoyed her ribs as well and my bff didn't say too many words for he was all into his jerk chicken meal. Now I must say this isn't the best I have had, but it is good to know I can come here if I have a craving for caribbean food. The owner came out to check on us. She was super friendly and I have to say I felt her energy and it felt great! I love it when people love what they do. Especially when food is involved! The restaurant is definitely busy on Saturday nights. Therefore, call ahead to see if they can accomodate you. Nevertheless, there was ample bar seating. But the waitstaff gets you in at least, but the service is a bit slow. So don't get here and expect a super fast meal. But it is definitely worth a visit and a return visit...and so on. Great stuff... Have fun :) read more

I heard a lot of good things about the cutlass grill from my friends. The social media posts were also a big help in getting me all the way over to Chesapeake to eat some Caribbean food. One day I had to drop my wife off at the Norfolk airport for an early afternoon flight. I took that opportunity to continue down the interstate with my boys to get lunch at the Cutlass Grill. I could eat just about anything on the menu when it comes to island/Caribbean food. But my go to is stewed chicken, cabbage, rice and peas and some plantain. My mother in law is Jamaican so I've had some authentic dishes and I know good food when I taste it. First off, I've gotten a lot more for my money at other spots around town. Not to take anything from Cutlass, because they have a large spot in a strip mall in Chesapeake. That being said, I had to pay more to get what I usually get at other restaurants. But the overall taste and portions of food were pretty good. If I am ever In Chesapeake again with my wife, I will definitely take her here to eat. She might feel right at home. read more

I went to get some delicious Jamaican food and I got it. The restaurant is very nice and ambiance was great. However, the service was absent. I actually had to hunt someone down to place my order. Cutlass Grille was first recommended to me by my boss and she took me and another coworker here for lunch one day. I will never forget how amazing the food was that I am constantly thinking about when's the next time I'm stopping by. Well I'm so glad I got a chance to come back today and really sit down and enjoy the food. My absolute favorite thing on the menu is the Jerk Lamb. While it is only an appetizer, I could eat that as a meal whenever I'm only wanting something small. I do wish that it was an entrée so I could have more meat since I love lamb, but this is one of the best places to eat lamb in the Hampton roads area. Another of my favorite items is the Jerk pork with plantains. I'm obsessed with plantains and I love how it tastes here. I haven't really had anything here that I didn't like, and that is very rare for me. If you ever come here and don't have to do anything afterwards, I also highly recommend the plantain foster dessert. The plaintains are coated in caramel but also marinated in Jamaican rum and its absolutely amazing! I honestly would just come here for the dessert and listen to live music on Saturdays. That's my dream! I just want to conclude this by saying that the owners of this restaurant are amazing people. They really take care of their guests and I wish them continued success with this business. I can't wait to bring more of my friends here since I tell all of them to try it. read more

Very slow, long wait when only a few patrons inside. Not really friendly atmosphere. I wanted to be supportive, they made it hard.

This place is hands down, the best, cleanest, trendy Caribbean place I have ever tried. It's not all show either. The show is the food. I HAD to finish the cabbage. Cabbage is at best, a third string food on my chart. Here, it's just yummy. Who knew? Jerk Chicken was flawless. Rice and black beans came in a generous pile, all that and a cold beer was quite a nice meal at the bar. Top notch video displays at the bar to watch the games, and some soft live Jazz happening in the dining room. I'll be going back! Will try the curry shrimp next time. Looks good too. Update: I did not see this until after I left the review. Posted a picture of the specials board. upper right. "Jerk Ribeye". .... Oh baby. That's prolly next for me! read more

Cutlass Grille - Quarter dark Jerk Chicken w/ plantain $20 takeout before tip - Caribbean Near Me - Chesapeake, Virginia

This is the first time coming to the new location. We stood in the front and waited 15 minutes before being acknowledged then another 10 to be seated. Almost everything we wanted was not available or sold out. The service was not worth the 20 percent automatic gratuity. The green beans we ordered was extremely salty and the fish was unevenly cooked. We ordered beer on tap and it was warm not cold when asked if we could get a bottle that was also not available. Not happy with the food, the service or the undeserved Huge Tip we were forced to pay. Feeling taken advantage of! read more

First, let me start by saying that the 20% gratuity is insane. That alone will keep us from coming back. We've been coming here forever (since Battlefield Blvd days where there was a huge smoker outside). They never failed which is why we kept it in our awesome places to eat. And the wait staff was great too. Now that intimate feeling is lost. Don't get me wrong, they truly needed a bigger space but at what cost? Portion sizes smaller, price tag bigger. Wait staff, a bunch of unmotivated teenagers who could care less and we all know that's why the 20% is there. But if you don't deserve it, you don't deserve it. My go-to is the brown stewed chicken. The gravy is amazing. But after the price increase, higher tax AND 20%, I almost paid for 2. read more

Eating at Cutlass Grille reminds me of when my wife and I visited Jamaica. Been here a few times and the food has always good, chill reggae playing in the background, smiling waitstaff. I ordered the stewed peas, had asked the waitress, and she honestly answered, it's good to hear someone be honest, she hadn't tried it and didn't remember anyone ordering it. It's seem like a dish grandma would make for a regular dinner. Very good, and definitely filling. Next time will see what else is on the menu I haven't tried. read more

Great food, vibe, and service. The cocktails was delicious as was the dinner and dessert

One of my favorite cuisines is Jamaican and since moving to The Hampton Roads area I have been on the look out for a place. Cutlass grill came up on Yelp and I wanted to go just needed to make some time, which finally happened one Friday. When I walked in it reminded me of the islands with its tropical decor, bright painted walls and all. The food though is the best Jamaican I've had and I'm not just talking about here in the area, but anywhere. I ended up having oxtail with rice and peas and tostones, the dish made me feel back at home in Miami. My grandma makes an oxtail dish back home and this is exactly what it reminded me of and with the tostones it was like my grandma had cooked it herself, so this definitely gave me a feeling of being back home sitting in my grandmas house enjoying a meal prepped with love. The food was so good that later the same night I took my girlfriend to eat here, she isn't the most adventurous eater and she even loved it. She had the brown chicken with rice and peas and maduros (she loved it), while I had jerk chicken with those amazing tostones and one of cheesier Mac and cheeses around. Do not be afraid of trying this island cuisine especially not from here it's delicious. Oh! the dessert is great too I'm not a pudding fan and I actually thoroughly enjoyed the banana pudding from here. Hope this helps. read more
