I will say the fish is perfect, and the coleslaw was refreshing, but the chips (fries) were dry and not that good. This place was litty in the city! On Friday, after a late Friday night lights at Indian River, my husbae and I had the late night munchies and opted to eat out before we went in for the night. After calling around to a few places, Kelly's advised they're open and ready to serve. We pulled up a little after 11pm and was sat quite swiftly. 1 star We were greeted within secs and presented menus. 1 star We placed our order and received it in record time. 1 star The place was quite busy but I didn't see a lot of ppl eating. However, they were definitely drinking. This night a DJ was featured and played all the hits. Karaoke was in full swing too. The atmosphere was lit!! I loved it. Our waitress was the sweetest and the cutest :) 2 stars Now... my food was great! My husbae not so much. Here ordered a club and onions were on the sandwich... yuck! This was a turn off but he tried to push through. Nevertheless, he was disappointed while I was full and happy ready to dance! But we didn't stay too much longer as the hour was getting late. Madison, our server, was very nice. She kindly turned the music down just a touch. The chicken bite app was good and the ruben sandwich was delish. The burgers were not the best flavor/temperature and one burger was missing toppings but that was fixed. I ordered a shrimp chicken pasta but it was overly peppery and gladly we were able to return it. The battered fries were much better than the other fries in my opinion. The pool tables were fun and reasonably priced at $1.50. The whiskey sour was not that good. We didn't see the automatic added gratuity for our party over 6 and tipped on top of that so that was a whole other ordeal that we worked out. :) read more

Stopped in for a bite and a drink. There were a few people in the restaurant but only 1 server. We waited a little while before she made it to our table. She was nice. We placed our drink order and waited a little while longer. Happy Hour had just began at 1pm, so we ordered off that menu. We ordered the lemon pepper and garlic parmesan chicken bites. We come in every week and spend at least 80-130 with our family. This week we have been in twice honestly. The food and service is normally a hit.. Sometimes it varies and that's just fine too.. It's a hard industry to work for and pleasing everyone just doesn't happen.. I get that.. Look, I've worked in the restaurant industry for decades.. our experience last night was terrible. We had been there for maybe an hour.. we are nothing but kind and nice.. our server was basically non existent and when we were trying to give her our card with the tab we had to say since your here please take this.. she said "oh the tip?" No you have to run the card first.. her last encounter with our table was to toss our card with cc receipt and say here you go. She was gone before we even had the chance to look up. We come in very often. At least spend 80-130$ per visit. It was rude, and we will just take a break from the establishment now.. First time at Kelly's Tavern location. On a day out shopping, I stopped in for lunch on the outside patio. The service was excellent, and the waiter and hostess were friendly. I had the spinach dip as an appetizer; it was light, but I needed more spinach and less cottage cheese. I don't recommend getting it again, but I will try the crab dip next time. For the entree, I had the crabs, and they were excellent. There was little breading and filling; I highly recommend them. Next time, I would pick another side. The mac and cheese was not that good. We needed a restaurant in the area that stays open late. We arrived around 8:30pm and snagged a booth for the four of us instantly. Our server was super friendly. He asked us if we've been there before and only one of us had. He explained the menu thoroughly. Between the 4 of us we ordered the firecracker burger with onion rings. I ordered the supreme burger no bun and a side garden salad instead of fries. Our friend ordered a chef salad and the other ordered a French dip sandwich. We ordered the appetizer fries with beer cheese. This was amazing. I must admit, I had low hopes for this restaurant coming in, mainly because of its low stars. We all were pleasantly surprised at how decent the food tasted and also the cleanliness of the restaurant. To be fair, it was late and dark. Kelly's tavern in the greenbrier portion of Chesapeake is a great place to meet with friends for cold beers and delicious bar type food. My friend and I wanted a late diner after an afternoon of day drinking and ended up at Kelly's before walking to our hotel. We sat outside so we could enjoy a cigar and both ordered burgers and a cocktail. The service was quick and the food was delicious. I was extremely hungry so I ordered the burger that had pastrami on top! We visited on a Thursday night but Friday and Saturday nights normally have corn hole, pool, and good crowds. read more

I usually go to the Kelly's on Kempsville, but decided to give this Greenbrier location a chance...I was not impressed. The service was okay, but as far as the meal and drinks-- mediocre. I ordered a rum and coke and I believe I just received a coke. There was absolutely no alcohol in there, it tasted like. Same with my friend, she ordered a tequila and pineapple and felt like it was only pineapple juice. When it came to the food, the server did inform us that the kitchen was backed up a little, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't care about what they are doing. My burger was burnt on the bottom and the bun was toasted way too hard. I ordered soup as a side, but was given cold fries. Then when the soup finally came out, it was nasty as well. My friend had to wait additional time for her food because someone "stole it" so they had to recook her meal because it wasn't on the line when it was time to bring the food out. 1/10 experience. read more

8/5/21: I've never been here before. We were starving and it was pretty late on a Sunday night. We were quickly greeted when we got inside & seated next to the bar. The server was friendly & was wearing booty shorts with some of her butt cheek hanging out. I was confused for a second on where I was. The guy I was with definitely didn't have any issues with her attire. I felt very uncomfortable, but we still ordered because there weren't many other places open. My fish sandwich was yummy. The fish was fried fresh & the county was crunchy and flavored nicely. The bread was too thick though. My friend had a chicken nacho thingy that he didn't like. So, he sent it back and ordered a salad with chicken on it. He also ate half of my sandwich. The fries were yummy too. There was stuff floating in our drinks & the table was dirty when we got there. One of the worst places I ve eaten in a very long time. As soon as you walk in the front door (that didn t latch and stayed flopping open) you see the rotten and delapidated matradee's station. It looked as if it had been through a flood and was rotting on its frame. Poor first impression. Wanted to sit outside and eat but there were "smokers". That killed that idea. Isn t the outside area PART OF THE RESTAURANT, where there is a no smoking policy ? Several tables of inside guests were very, very loud. Disturbing this guest and LIKELY others. The meal, burrito in a bowl, was tasteless and lacked a healthy compliment of what are very inexpensive additions (beans, corn) ...pretty much a bowl of unsalted rice. Preparing to leave, a women, dressed or undresssed, not sure, flashed by in mimicking, skintight, naked tights . WOW, and they let her in. The worst inattentive service I've ever received. They allow other patrons to park in the handicap stop who are not in fact handicap. The 70 year old handicap women in question was railing shots at the bar with the owners. Tonight I stopped by Kelley's Tavern at 1412 Greenbrier Parkway in the heart of Chesapeake. There is a sign on the door "No mask, No Service, No exceptions" and I was happy to see that they were taking COVID-19 restrictions seriously. I started out with a Tito's and tonic while I perused the menu. I was in the mood for a good burger and I asked the server for recommendations. He recommended a few but I wanted something traditional, so I opted for the bacon cheeseburger with pepper jack, lettuce and tomato. I also ordered a Garden Salad with balsamic vinaigrette. The salad arrived quickly and I barely got a picture of it when the Cheeseburger arrived. I tried one of the Fresh Cut Fries and it was not hot. I tried a piece of the burger and it wasn't hot either. I told the server and he apologized and took it away and said that he would have them remake it right away. The server came out 4 minutes later with a freshly made dish (I guess the rules of physical science do not apply in Kelley's kitchen) but the fries were hot and the burger was NOT. In fact, it was RAW in the middle. At this point, I was at my wits end and I sent the dish back again only to be asked "are you sure that I cannot get you something else." I can take a hint, I paid the bill, left a tip (the server was good and he had no control over the kitchen staff) and I left. It really pains me to write this review but my personal integrity demands that I be honest. I wanted to like this place but they have no standards. I would have liked to have seen a manager come by to discuss the issue but that did not happen. Maybe the kitchen staff was having a bad night but that is no excuse for the lack of quality control. The restaurant was clean. Looks like they're doing some construction work, maybe a new bar coming? I ordered take out and was actually working a couple doors down and the waitress Jamie offered to bring it to me, which was very sweet and helpful! She made sure I had napkins and eating utensils too. I had the crab dip, which was great in texture and flavor, I just felt the styrofoam container could have been filled with it, serving portions was on the light side. We were craving a burger on a Sunday afternoon and we both thought of Kelly's. The service was outstanding and the food matched. We tried the fried pickles and they were excellent. Instead of sliced cross ways, they are little spears and we liked them much better. The people working seemed happy to be there and the place exuded a positive, calm vibe. They were undergoing renovations and we're excited to come back soon to see them. The burger was great with plenty of excellent fries. The liquor and beer prices surprised us in a good way. If you are a big fan of food poisoning and watching people being over served alcohol this is your spot. I believe they are in the middle of a renovation and it more than shows. We got there closer to 4:00 and there were already several insanely intoxicated men playing pool right next to the bar and the bartender was just eating it up handing them drink after drink. Food is mediocre. We went there mostly for a couple drinks before a concert so I skipped any entree type dish and just got a couple appetizers that were, again, ok, but this place just FEELS dirty. Hard to eat food when you walk in and feel like you're gonna need a shower. Bathrooms were disgusting, water all over the floor. Toilets are obviously never cleaned. Couldn't tell you a whole lot about the ambiance because of the screaming drunk men but I'd say don't bring the kids. read more

After waiting at the bar alone for maybe 2 minutes, I was greeted by a blonde bartender who said she would be right with me. To me this Kelly's has always seemed to have an identity crisis. What do I mean by that? Well, it doesn't know if it wants to be a restaurant or a dive bar. I've seen it be both. So I'm happy to report that on the latest visit, shortly before current events, I had really good experience here. The first thing I noticed was that the doors sealing the bar area from the dining room were gone. I guess that means there's no more smoking inside which is a plus. The place seemed cleaner than it has in past overall. There was also an band playing an acoustic set, however the finished up practically after we arrived. I digress... I was joining some friends here after we had been over at the movie theater. We sat in the restaurant area straight in from the front door about midway to the bar. We had a couple of rounds of drinks and eventually ordered and shared a order of bacon cheese fries. I didn't catch our servers name however she was attentive and jovial. The appetizer was also large and full of fresh cut fries smothered in cheese and bacon. We chatted a while longer and had another round before we finished up and were out the door before midnight. Thought I'd give them another chance since a year ago. Used to frequent them a lot before the remodel. Food and service was always consistent. My go to was the Cobb salad. Last visit I walked out because I couldn't get anyone to serve me a beer at the bar when they were practically empty. That was a year ago. This time, I ordered the cobb salad at the bar and got a beer to drink while waiting. The salad came quickly, bagged up to go as ordered. When I got home and got into my robe, opened the salad up, NO BACON! Called them immediately and they wanted me to bring it back! Eventually was told they would take care of it when I came back. What was in the salad was good and fresh, mostly lettuce but still good. Just no bacon, so basically a tossed salad with Blu cheese crumbles, little bit of tomatoes, avocado, red onion, hard boiled egg. Don't know if I'll go back or not. Definitely a local bar that has some mileage on it but did the job for that moment. It was actually entertaining to people watch and see a different side of town and their locals. It's definitely not the cleanest place and the bar areas seems like the place to be but the outside looked spacious and decent to hang, especially with nice weather. It appeared to be closed in and designated smoking areas during colder times. They also had a spot with a local band to play. I would say out of the other local chain restaurants, Kelly's have more variety and good burgers, wraps and such. Love the hand cut fries!
