Considering it's a Tuesday first. This place was very quiet for 5pm. Staff were very attentive and friendly. My food was fantastic. They did seem to have takeout going frequently. I'm not sure why this place doesn't have people waiting to be seated. Just a snapshot in time but really this is the place I would recommend even though it's a chain. Sat at bar. Service was good. Food was great. Their smoky old fashioned ($14) is excellent. Salmon was moist and flavorful. ($23) I ordered it medium. Vegetables were good. Cup of Brunswick stew was good. ($5) Not a typical Brunswick but was tomato based with chunks of smoked pork. I saw someone get a bone-in steak that looked delicious. Sandwiches looked good with large side portions. It was a Friday night and they serve food until 1AM. Prices were a little high but I enjoyed everything I ordered, so maybe it's worth it. read more

Decided to go to this place due to a previous selection was closed, (2:00). We thought this chain had gone out of business. Earlier years my hubby used to drive for the Darden Distribution, which carried the company he drove for-(MBM WAREHOUSE). So Happy we decidedto come here, it was not busy, and the wait wasn't long. Stopped in here for lunch today. We were seated immediately and our drink order was taken. Our first impression was that of amazement of how clean the restaurant is. There are a few big screens on and located on several walls, however on this particular visit, my wife had my full attention . We both ordered the European Baby Back Ribs. I had the baked beans and the potato wedges as my sides. The food arrived hot and fragrances were delightful. The ribs were extremely tasty and tender. The baked beans were excellent. The potato wedges seemed to be over cooked slightly but flavor was good. The waitress stopped by our table several times to refill our drinks and to bring us extra napkins and some wet wipes to clean our hands after our meal. I would recommend this establishment for anyone looking for some good BBQ and excellent service. read more

We recently stopped by Smokey Bones, located on the ring road of Greenbrier Mall in the heart of Chesapeake, to grab a bite to eat. They weren't busy so we were able to score a couple of seats at the bar, our favorite spot in most restaurants. The bartender was friendly and helpful and she offered suggestions about the items on the menu and craft cocktails. I had a pulled pork sandwich that was very good. It had just a hint of sweet heat, a winning combination in my book. The fries were good and they were served piping hot, just the way I like them. My wife had the chicken wings and she enjoyed them as well. We had a great experience and I'm looking forward to coming back soon. read more

Food is very franchise. Lots of beer and a very warm and inviting sports bar. Their main attraction was BBQ. Unfortunately, their BBQ was dry and needed lots of sauce. It was 11pm and I just wanted some late night food. We had 4 different people serve us. 1 waitress didn't direct us to sit until another waitress directed us. Then, our waitress didn't write down our orders so she forgot my Mac and cheese which I had to wait 30+ minutes for. No napkins and the bartender had to reassure us refills. Our original waitress then tells us how stressful it's been about her day and she also was unprepared to take our orders because she was locking up her station when the place closes at 2am. She also throws a performance getting irritated with the cooks when she forgot the order to make it seem like she wasn't in the wrong. Regularly I don't deal with this kind of service but it was the worse one yet. Customer service 101 no matter how your day is going, you give the customer the best service. read more

I haven't been here in awhile but I'll admit it was surprised this visit. The smoked wings were delicious. The witness was wonderful very punctual with drinks and the food and checking on us. The brisket platter was terrible it was so dry like overcooked dry my husband didn't even eat it and ate the appetizer wings. The 1/2 rib platter was ok had to add more sauce to be able to eat them. The location on Greenbrier Pkwy is seems to never have enough staff. My husband and I recently tried to go on two separate occasions and were told that it would be a long wait because they didn't enough wait staff. The dining room was empty both times. First time at Smokey bones yay. As we walked in the restroom was right next to the door, convenient so I ran in and washed my hands. Restroom was dirty and smelled pretty bad. Not a first good impression. We were seated right away, the time we visited was in between lunch and dinner and it was fairly quiet. The dinning areas is very large and have a nice atmosphere to it. We were brought the menus and they were soooo sticky !! Ugh. I just washed my hands :( pages were sticking together, that's how bad it was. I ordered a two favorite meal, with jalapeño sausage and pulled pork. Side of potatoes wedges and a side of corn. My meal came in and right off the bat was disappointing. It just didn't look fresh. Everything was extra crispy and dry. Potato wedges were crunchy in a dry, old kinda way not in a baked delicious crunchy kinda way. The pulled pork was again, dry and crusty. The sausage was so dry it was tricky to even poke it with a fork. The sausage was also supposed to be "jalapeño" sausage but I didn't see a trace of jalapeño so I questioned with the server. Manager got involved (I didn't mean for all that to happen :-0 ) and he quickly got a new order of sausage in to replace mine. By the time the new sausage came in I was done with the meal... not finished, just didn't want any. Pre of that so we needed up taking the sausage in a to-go box. Probably won't even eat it. Overall, I would have given this place 2 stars. I feel the manager interaction and the fact that maybe we came in at an off time, in between meal could have had an effect on the quality of the food. I would give it a benefit of the doubt and leave it at 3 stars. I wouldn't come back to this place and would probably not recommend to anyone or offer a cautionary heads up based on my experience. After a few minutes realized no bartenders in the bar area. Still no greeting. Looked up the reviews on yelp. Hmm. 3.0 stars. Still no greeting. Ended up leaving. We ended up at Smokey Bones to try out a new BBQ place we haven't been before. For my entree I ordered the the Smokehouse Mac & Cheese with sausage and pulled pork. As a lover of Mac & Cheese, naturally it jumped off the page so I had give it a try. I really wanted to love it but it was underwhelming. Not horrible, just didn't seem like a fresh meal. Kind of like when you reheat a meal in the oven. The pulled pork and the cheese seemed to be pretty dry and not much flavor. Crazy good price deal on the ribs right now in May 2024! I got a full rack with two sides and bread for around $15. The ribs were very good and the sauce was a nice mix of sweet and spicy. Broccoli was undercooked and mashed potatoes nothing special. Overall great takeout meal, and I will do again! read more

The skillet cornbread is absolutely delicious. I love the butter with the pecans in it. The bread was soft and sweet. My favorite item of the night. my order of wings finally arrived. This time they were cold. However, I did try them, and the taste was there. I just was thrown off by the temperature. I ordered a couple of drinks that were actually pretty good. The waitress seemed overwhelmed, and it showed. I ordered another round of wings Just to to give it another try. However, it took too long for them to come out and I lost interest. In the area for business and wanted to hit up some new spots that I've never been to! Ambiance: Relaxed BBQ Bar/Restaurant with indoor group and bar seating. Went by myself and sat at the bar, had average traffic for a Wednesday night (apparently October is one of the slower times of year according to the bartender). Lot for parking. Price Point: The price on par for what I expected for a touristy area, although the quantity of food was slightly smaller than what I was anticipating. Ordered: Mahi Sandwich with fries, sweet bourbon peach tea, and smooth blackberry lemonade. Pros: Friendly staff, no wait and the food came out in a timely manner and was delicious! The drinks were stellar. The menu was big with classic and specialty BBQ items for individuals or groups. Cons: The quantity of food just seemed underwhelming. Maybe it was because of how big the plate was, but for the cost I would've expected either a bigger piece of Mahi Mahi or more fries. Also, most other southern/BBQ spots I go to typically throw heaps of food on a plate with your order. Overall: Definitely glad I stopped in, seemed like it could be a real popular spot, and will come back when I'm in the area to try some more traditional BBQ items! read more

Visited over the weekend and had the pleasure of having Francesca serve us on her first day. She was sweet and funny. She was attentive & when we let her know our food was cold, she quickly took care of it. When she brought us back the replacement, it still wasn't hot, but we ate it. It's not her fault & we know that. Smokey Bones has never really been my favorite anyway, so I didn't have big expectations for them...especially this location. The bathroom was nasty & hadn't been cleaned. There was urine all over the toilet seats. People can be so disgusting sometimes. The staff were just standing around lollygagging & talking. No wonder our food was cold. It was probably just sitting there waiting to be picked up. My date loved our server so much that he gave her a huge tip. She deserved it!! I won't go back to SB, but it's only because I don't care for their food. It had nothing to do with the service. If you like this kind of food, go and ask for our server.
