The beef ribs are really good here! I've had lots of beef ribs from lots of places but this restaurant in Virginia Beach is hands some of the best I've had in all of Virginia. Sides are very generous, meat is really good, and surprisingly the fried chicken sandwich was very good, now that I think about it, it reminded me of the shake shack chicken sandwich. Everytime we come here we get the beef ribs, highly recommend over anything else! French fries are hand cut and I absolutely LOVED the onion rings as well. Had the flounder sandwich and it was cooked perfectly, melted in your mouth . Added the tiger sauce which gave it a great pop . The collards and onion rings were excellent as well . My family and I came here on September 22nd after leaving from Virginia Beach. We had a taste for some BBQ and heard this was the best in the area. I had order the BBQ sandwich platter with mac and cheese and collard greens. My fiancé order the brisket platter with potato salad and beans. Finally my stepdaughter order the brisket mac and cheese. We all tried everyone's meals to get an idea of the different offers. All of the sides were definitely amazing and worth having again. However, the meats from all our meals were dry and definitely required some sauce (they had flavorful ones but don't always like putting sauce on my BBQ) The brisket is not a fatty one and is trimmed of all the fat (per on of the employees) so doesnt have a lot of flavor which definitely didn't help the mac and cheese. Overall, it was definitely worth the experience coming and had GREAT, friendly employees who seem to be well loved in the community. However, I would not go out of my way to come back for the food unless I was with others who wanted to eat here. read more

There's the old saying "Barbecue is like sex. Ain't none bad, just some better than others." This was bad barbecue. I tried the platter with pulled pork, chicken and ribs. My sides were beans and collards. We waited 26 minutes for the order. The pulled pork was arid dry. No amount of sauce could save it. I tried adding several of their sauces and nothing helped. The chicken was extremely tough; nothing like chicken exposed to a long low and slow barbecuing experience, more like a hot and fast grilling. The ribs were way overdone to the point of falling completely off the bone. This made them too soft and dry. None of the meat had any smoke flavor, hinting that the meat was baked instead of barbecued. The sides were canned (Glory collards) and some type of canned beans with a little onion and green pepper added. Nothing special. I'm not sure if they've changed hands since the last time I was there or if they're just having a bad go of it, but this was inedible. I tossed most of it in the trash. read more

We were looking forward to trying this restaurant. I ordered the nc bbq sandwich my husband had the bbq chicken. First getting the food was a very long wait. The sandwich was overstuffed with bbq but unfortunately it had no flavor. And a lesson for anyone serving nc bbq sandwich - it should be a little sweet, a little spicy, definitely have a vinegar vibe and must be served with coleslaw on top of the meat to cut the richness. This had none of that. It was just kinda pulled pork mush. My husband's chicken looked fully cooked but slimy. The skin wasn't crispy and the meat hard to chew (not dry just hard to chew). I was in Virginia Beach for an Aerospace conference and wanted to get some local BBQ, which locals referred me to Bully. I was surprised it was t very busy but the smell told me the smoking meat was going to be good. It's an interesting layout with booths and table and a saddle seat but most memorable was the variety and quality of the sauces (BBQ), each was good and different enough from the others, with Carolina, Spicy, Sweet and Tangy all standouts, not a lot of heat but a lot of flavor. The menu is ginormous with sandwiches to Mac and Cheese, collared greens to Hush puppies and hand cut fries. I had the Beach Bully BBQ Combo of Carolina BBQ and Beef Brisket and it was finger licking and lip smacking delicious! The portions were very generous and the searing comfortable and spacious . The service was chill and friendly . The prices were a bit high but it is on a Main Street and in a tourist area, however the portions made it a good value and the food quality of taste made it a return choice! read more

We went here on Saturday afternoon, heading in from the beach to get some grub to take back to the hotel--Saturday in the summer, around 5:30-6:00. Reviews were good. We noticed when we arrived we couldn't smell anything cooking. My husband ordered the Carolina pulled pork with cole slaw. His sandwhich was saggy. I ordered the ribs. This picture is very deceiving. They looked perfectly fine when I opened the carton. But I suspect they were cooked on Wednesday and just had some new barbecue sauce added. Terrible!! Dry! Hard!! Dusgusting! We stopped by The Beach Bully on a Saturday around Noon for lunch and the aroma of bbq was the first thing that I noticed. The smell was divine. Thankfully, we got there right before the lunch rush so it wasn't that crowded at all when we walked in. Since we were unsure of what we wanted, one of the workers handed us a paper menu and told us to take our time ordering. We both decided on the Monster Beef Platter which consisted of beef brisket and pit sliced beef topped with grilled onions. I ordered cole slaw and baked beans with mine and my boyfriend ordered green beans and collard greens. The Monster Beef is actually served as a sandwich but we both decided to opt out of the buns. Once we ordered and found a table to sit at, the food was brought out in less than 10 minutes. The condiments are self serve so we grabbed some of their house made bbq sauces and the mesquite bbq sauce was our favorite. The brisket (which was coated in light bbq sauce) was absolutely delicious and the pit sliced beef was pretty good. Unfortunately, the collard greens and green beans had no flavor and the baked beans tasted as if they were right out of the can which was a bummer. The cole slaw was okay though. Overall, the staff was very friendly and accommodating and the service was quick, which I always enjoy. We both agreed that we'd definitely go back for the brisket though because it was amazing! read more

I love how close this location is to my airbnb. The workers are so welcoming and friendly. I didn't like the green beans too over cook for my personal taste but the onion rings and pulled chicken sandwich look and smell phenomenal. This was a catered lunch for our practice. During COVID19, we are only allowed pre boxed lunched when being delivered. Super quick and welcome. I grabbed a box that said fried chicken, my mind was thinking a sandwich like on a bun. Uh-Maze-Ing. The whole drive down to VA beach I was convincing my friends to go here (which didn't take much.) I adore their pulled pork sandwich. It's so flavorful and moist even without added sauce, but their sauces are also incredible. I love their hush puppies and mac n cheese. Definitely do not leave this place without eating the mac n cheese. The potato salad was also great. Beans, also great. Can't think of a single critique. The food I ordered was the beef ribs. They were delicious. However, the restaurant was filthy, it was set up more like a fast food place than a restaurant. Had to try and eat my ribs with plastic cutlery.. The station with sauces and cutlery, napkins, etc. was filthy. I had to ask them to clean it and wipe down the counter in which they barely did so. They were all dressed like slobs. The restaurant was dingy and rundown. The food was served in plastic baskets. If you needed something, you have to go up to them and ask for it. There are no waiters or waitresses. The only thing they did was bring the food out. This is not a dine in restaurant. This is a fast food chain type place. I've been to McDonald's where it's cleaner than there . they definitely need to renovate, paint, clean, and address the staff the way they dress and the way they act and the way they look.. as they looked like they wear their clothes to bed. We stopped in last weekend with a party of 7 during a lunch rush - popular place by the looks of it! Even though this is close to the oceanfront, there is plenty of private parking available which is a plus in this area. It's a casual, no frills spot - order at the counter, fill your drink and find a table. The staff will bring your meal. We were at the tail end of the rush, so things were quieting down and we were able to snag 2 tables together. Our party placed 3 separate orders and they all came out close to the same time. Collectively, we had a kid's burger, grilled chicken sandwich, pulled pork platter, Brunswick stew, and chicken barbecue along with sides of collards, green beans, fries, onion rings and puppies. The grilled chicken sandwich had bbq sauce already on it, which I would have ordered plain had I known. The bbq (pork and chicken) was raved about. Daughter loved her burger. The collards are like none I've tasted with a good balance of sweet, heat and tang. The green beans were way too peppery. The staff was fantastic and provided friendly, efficient service! They checked on us several times through our visit and I saw them cleaning and sanitizing tables once patrons left. I would definitely return to try something else! read more

Once again, Beach Bully did not disappoint. I had the pulled BBQ chicken sandwich and enjoyed every bite. The sauce does not overpower the taste of the chicken and the portion size was significant. I always enjoy their fries and especially their onion rings. The person I was got the half smoked chicken and he could not stop talking about how good it was. First, I want to take a moment and recognize the evening staff that were there 1/12/23 because we came in about an hour and a half before closing and oftentimes when that happens at any business-customer service can be iffy. However, that wasn't the case at all with their staff; they immediately greeted us and gave us a real warm welcome and really just gave us the best customer service. Second, the food- so, so, so good!! We had their fried chicken (great flavor and good amount of crunch), beef ribs (extremely good), brisket, and bbq chicken (also extremely good). Angela was so helpful with menu selections and very patient with our ever increasing RSVP numbers! She followed up same day with each and very call or email. On the day of our event, they showed up 30 mins early, set everything up very neatly and the food was ready to go in plenty of time.
