Very friendly service, clean restaurant! I got Meat Candy, brisket, beans, the baked beans, and cornbread. Was all great! The Tangy Chipotle BBQ Sauce was my favorite! Edges of one of the pieces of brisket was a little dry, but not dry enough to lose a star! The beans were also just basic, out of the can beans. But I don't care because I didn't go for the beans! This restaurant is worth all five stars!

Great locally owned bbq place near General Booth/Redmill area. I needed some quick lunch while I was nearby and walked to Donnie's. First time here, the owners were very welcoming. I ordered brisket and sausage and it did NOT disappoint. I swear, you can tell when the bbq was made with heart. The brisket was some of the best brisket I've had in the area/EVER. The sausage was so flavorful! I enjoyed every single bite of it. I will be coming back to support Donnie's!

The food is very good and came out piping hot. I also got the corn bread and it was delicious. I will definitely come back. The eating area is very clean and the smell of barbecue when you walk in makes your stomach grumble. The service was fast and the owner was very welcoming.

My favorite BBQ restaurant in the area! The food is outstanding, prices fair and generous portions. I've been there three times now, and each made from scratch menu item is outstanding...especially the Meat Candy!

Southern Charm at its best. The owner was working when we arrived. He was helpful with the menu and suggestions on what to order. The collard greens are the best I have had!!!! If you want options on what kind of meats and delicious options for sides try Donnie's BBQ today!!!

Good barbecue for the price. My husband loved the meat candy. I loved Mac and cheese and cornbread. Not a fan of lemon cookies. We did DoorDash to our hotel. Nice change from seafood while at the beach. I recommend them and would eat there again.

This is the strorefront for the restaurant. Photo taken July 22, 2020.

Donnie's Barbecue is located in the Strawbridge Shopping Center, a few stores down from the Harris Teeter. I had heard some good things about this place, so my mom and I decided to check this place out. With this place being in a shopping center, parking was not hard to come by as well. Our visit was on July 22, 2020. We came in around 4 pm that day, so it wasn't busy at all. We were immediately greeted when we came in and then proceeded to look over the menu. After looking over the menu, we both went with the # Platter, which includes two meats and two sides. For the meats I went with pulled pork and brisket. For the sides I went with the macaroni and cheese and two additional cornbread. My mom went with double brisket with cole slaw and macaroni and cheese as her sides. While waiting for the order to be ready, we talked for a bit with the owner and gave us some info about the place. Given the current Covid-19 situation, all orders are for takeout only; dine in is currently unavailable. After a few minutes, our order was ready to be picked up and paid for. We then took it home to eat. The pork and brisket were nice and tender. The sauces that I got for it were good with them as well. The cornbread was warm and soft, and the macaroni and cheese was great too. Overall, we had a great experience here and the food was as well. This is now a favorite barbecue spot for me. What's even better is that they aren't that far from me as well. If you're in the area and looking for a barbecue spot, this is where you need to go.

They have the best sign. Barbecue in huge letters. My husband saw the sign from the street and couldn't pull in fast enough. Everyone loves barbecue. Staff and owner very nice. Super clean restaurant. Absolutely love the big pump barbecue sauce area. We tried them all. I personally LOVE the MOP sauce. It has everything you want in a sauce. Slightly sweet with a twang of vinegar finishing off with a little heat on the tail end. Bravo!!! We got the North Carolina Pulled Pork hand held. Very good. You don't need to add anything to it. Good bun and a hefty amount of meat. Yummm. We also got the Smoked Cluck Cluck hand held. This was a perfect sandwich. Chicken was seasoned well and very tender. I'm definitely getting this again. I added a little MOP sauce to mine and my husband liked the chipotle sauce. Good sides to choose from. The Mac and cheese was a hit!!!! With all that said. I'm a big into fries. So I deducted a little because there were no fries. Everything to me was a 5 star. So go check them out. I can't wait to read your reviews and see what you try.

Pork Ribs

Just picked up 1lb of the Pork Ribs and 1lb of the Meat Candy to eat in our Oceanfront room, all I can say is HOLY COW this is definitely delicious!!!! The ribs were just right and the Meat Candy was SO tender. Seriously considering going back tomorrow to get an order to take back to Norther Virginia.

I've been on the fence trying to decide if I want to go with 3 or 4 stars for Donnie's. Truthfully, I thought it was "a-ok." I visited a few weeks ago when they were at Smartmouth Pilot House at the Oceanfront. Service was fast and friendly. He was patient with my questions and gave me a few suggestions when I was indecisive. I ended up going for the mac with pulled pork and tangy BBQ. It was okay and definitely filled me up. When I had the opportunity to eat the leftovers though, I opted to pass. The mac was just okay, nothing I was really excited about. I liked the sweet and spicy kick that the bbq sauce added, but the pork just wan't very exciting to me. It wasn't bad, just not "worth the calories." I had just gotten a similar meal at a different local BBQ shop about a week earlier that absolutely blew me away. I am still craving it weeks later. I almost gave this four stars, knowing that BBQ just isn't my favorite type of food. However, since I've tasted the same dish at another local spot and loved it- I've gotta stick with the "a-ok" assessment. I'll definitely be coming back if I see them pop up at Smartmouth and I'm feelin BBQ!

Very clean and organized

One of the best barbeque restaurants i've ever eaten at, very hometown scene vibes, and He's a great guy.

We loved the food at Repeal Bourbons and Burgers !…read more We started off with drinks which were yummy and delicious. I had the Plymouth Rock because I love Gin and it was refreshingly sweet. My husband had the Margarita on the Rocks which I was not a fan of. I did not like the mix they used to make thins drink. My son also tasted it and agreed with my opinion. The lettuce wraps were really good. My daughter in law and I both had the CALIFORNICATION burger, my husband had the CLASSIC burger, my son had the CAPONE Burger and everyone was really happy! All burgers were properly cooked and delicious. The fries were good, nothing special to write about. My husband had the fries with bacon dust and they were very sweet. He wasn't a fan but I thought they were delicious!

Sat in a booth inside since it was a little warm outside. Bomb MI was good. It had black garlic sesame aioli, kimchi, pork belly, sunny side egg, cucumber on a sesame seed bun. The Southside was alright. It is bombay gin, St. Germaine, Jack Rudy small-batch tonic, and soda. Would have given this place a 4/5 if not for the crappy service. The rude guy working the bar was neither friendly or pleasant. There were no napkins when food was served. I stood up and politely asked for some. I found some below the register and, since the guy was busy prepping drinks, I decided to get them myself. He then said, "okay do my job," which was unnecessary and rude. Though the other waiter was friendlier, service was overall bad.

There is a good selection of Virginia beers on tap and a rotating selection of beers from around the country on tap. They also have a cider on tap. There is a small selection of wines, canned beers, non- alcoholic beers, and for those who just graduated from soda - hard seltzer. The food menu clearly labels gluten- free and vegetarian options. There is a nice selection of appetizers, flatbreads, bowls, burgers, sandwiches. My husband and I both went with bowls I had the poke bowl and my husband had the chicken bowl. Both were delicious and above what one would expect for a pub. Mine came with succotash, which I thought was an interesting choice, but it worked. We split the pretzel, which was amazingly good. The waitress was attentive and good. They do have live music on Friday nights. There are many different happy hours during the week. Definitely we will go back

Our first table ended up being under a spotlight that was directly in our line of sight (it looked like it was meant for the specials board), so we asked to move. Staff was accommodating and got us to a better table quickly. The space itself is really nice. It was clean, rustically decorated, and the live plants in liquor bottles on the tables are a nice touch. Our server was friendly from the start and took drink orders right away. My daughter and I had sodas, and my husband ordered the Southern Charm Old Fashioned off the specials menu, which he enjoyed. The menu is on the smaller side, which we actually like. One unique detail was the option to "buy a round for the kitchen," which we thought was a really nice touch and decided to add it when we ordered our appetizer. We started with the fried deviled eggs after a friend recommended them. They were creative with three styles (classic with pickle, togarashi ginger, and crispy prosciutto), but overall a bit on the dry side and not as flavorful as we expected. We asked for Dijon, but they don't have it. Our server suggested and brought out the Baja dipping sauce instead, which did pair well and kind of improved them. My husband had the fish and chips and really enjoyed it. He said the fish was flaky and well cooked. I ordered the Union grilled cheese, which unfortunately seemed like it had been sitting a bit before being served, as the bottom was soggy. It was just okay overall and not particularly memorable for the price. The sweet potato fries on the side were the clear standout. They were crispy, the perfect balance of sweet and salty and honestly the best part of the dish. Our daughter had the kid's smashburger. It was exactly that. Service throughout the meal was good. She was friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and there when needed. The main disappointment came at the end. When our meals were served, the server actually offered sauces at the table (ketchup, mayo, ranch, etc.), and specifically suggested items like the baja sauce for the eggs and ranch to us. Because of that, we were surprised to see several charges for the sauces on the bill, especially since they were offered and recommended at the table with no mention of any additional cost. We were also charged a credit card fee, with no signage anywhere (entrance, hostess stand, or menu) indicating that paying with a card would include an extra charge. It just left an unnecessary sour note on an otherwise solid, casual meal. Nothing was bad, and nothing really stood out as exceptional, but the lack of transparency around those final charges really impacted the overall experience for us.

I ordered the Sunrise Burger, subbing hot honey for the mayo and oh-mah-gawsh that was an excellent decision. (The burgers are a little on the smaller side, but I found it to be the perfect size.) I told my husband that the onion rings were some of the best I've ever had. Kyle was our server, and he was incredible--attentive despite being a little overwhelmed. So when one of the Homies told me about this place I was all in because - burgers - what's not to love. Barrel 17 did not disappoint; when i got there i realized quickly i was the last to know because it was busy. We had about a 10 minute wait to be seated but that was cut short by option to sit at the bar. The bartender was working like she had six arms. It was non stop; attentive, taking orders, making drinks, checking back with others, she was truly impressive. The places was jumping; it was busy, casual and didn't slow down from the time we arrived until we left. Parking is challenging, there's a small lot beside the restaurant and a small lot behind it so if you can car pool you'll benefit yourselves. Now on to the star of the show - the food! The only knock I had was portion size. In a big guy with an even bigger appetite and when i left there i could've eaten my whole meal over again lol. But that's also because it was delicious. I got the mac n cheese starter, the Beast Burger, tater tots , and the biggest slice of chocolate cake I've ever had. Literally the biggest slice of cake ever- twice the size of my burger. Everything was delicious, from start to finish and if i were a person that had a normal appetite i would've left full like my friends did. Will definitely be back!
