Please know that it's bottom shelf liquor so you'll have a headache after one too many... the bartender was sweet and made some decent recommendations. We didn't eat here simply because we were bar hopping but I would go back to try their food. There is another side to the bar that opens up on the weekend as a club. We stopped at Griff's to celebrate Saint Patty's Day and MEAC. We did not eat this time even though I've previously had their food and can say it's decent bar food. The Chef Lonnie wings are amazing. A play on a sweet and spicy wing. They had Saint Patty Day drink specials which included $5 Jameson shots and $5 Green tea shots. I was sold! Cool vibe! While I have yet to dine here, I have dined at their sister restaurant that's located on Portsmouth Blvd. and I love the local hangout vibe there. But here... my babe and I wanted to catch a few minutes of the Bears preseason game last Friday night. Kudos!! All the games were playing on the TV's!! So around 9 pm 930 pm this place turns up a bit... a live DJ was setting up on the other side of the restaurant. On the other side, there is a full service bar as well. If you come around this time, please make sure you have your ID. I am not sure if guests under 21 are allowed... I'm thinking no, but call ahead to check. We had a few drinks and mingled with a few guests. The bartenders were working the entire restaurant... about 30 guests were present at the time. The bar seats were filled and everyone seemed to be having a good time. I will visit again to try something from the menu. But the restaurant is spacious and has outdoor patio seating out front. Came here 2 days in a row, so obviously I like the place! First night I ordered the Thursday pork chop special (for $8.99). Came with 2 sides and is a great deal! The fries here are perfectly crispy. The pork chops were fried to perfection! The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the mac and cheese, but most places don't make a great mac and cheese. The next day I ordered the fried scallops and flounder special for only $10. It was really good, the scallops were so tender! Most places overcook them, but not here! Very open, complete with a patio, pool tables and a bunch of tvs. We walked in to only a handful of people, scattered around the restaurant. We sat at the bar and I have to say the service was great! My mother-in-law comes here all of the time for breakfast and she really enjoys it. It's very well priced and the food was really good. We went with a big group and they were able to handle everything (it took a bit but that's expected because there was 8 people). I've been here for different occasions, one for a company Christmas party, a going away party and a birthday celebration. The service at this location is "ok", my first visit was not very good at all, it felt like I had to wait forever to get my first drink and the second drink felt even longer. But the last couple of visits the bartenders seemed to be a lot more attentive than my first visit. Griff's features your typical bar food, it's pretty good food and isn't much different than any other bar. This is a bar that can accommodate large or small groups. They have a lounge area with couches which is a nice touch and there is part of the bar that can be rented out for private parties and during the warmer months there is outdoor seating as well. They also have a couple of pool tables along with TVs throughout the bar. This bar is not bad but it isn't great either. If you're in Portsmouth, stop by and get a drink, but don't expect to be wowed. read more

When we walked in the waitress told us to sit any where. The atmosphere seemed great. Football was on all tvs, everyone was cheering, and it seemed fun. A waitress didn't come to get our drink orders until about 15 minutes into us finding a table. Then took about 15 more minutes to get our drinks. My cousin and I ordered appetizers trying to tie us over until the food came out... they brought it out with the main course- which took over an hour and a half. when we finally did get our food, most of it was cold. I ordered a tuna wrap, and it was over cooked. Not good at all. Our kids loved their wings, and our family said their sandwiches were good though. There was a random drunk man, loitering out front saying obscene things anytime someone walked by and begging for cigarettes. We definitely won't be back. I work at NNSY not far from here and decided to try out the Wing Wednesday special for lunch. Me and a friend arrived a little earlier than their 11am opening. We were first in a line that formed awaiting entry. Although we were first to enter right at 11:00, all the patrons behind us were served and almost finished before we recieved our food at about 11:37. I would hate to believe that race was a factor in why we recieved such horrible service and classless hospitality, but the thought absolutely crossed my mind given the circumstances. So after a family day at the children's museum on Saturday March 16,2019 we decided to stop by this place due to the good reviews & pictures they had. So lols we finally get our order in (we think) and 15 mins later get our drinks. Lols we have now been here for 20 mins with no food and just got our drinks. Now i can be over exaggerating but it was a long time so maybe like 13 mins or around there. Anyways she comes back in 10 mins saying "what would we like to order" now I am irritated. We retell her since she forgot to write down our order. Now to give her some credit she was the only server with about 10 people or so in the lounge. So we gave her more patience thats why we stayed so long cause as people who have previously worked in the food industry we understand. But still no excuse for why she did not write our order down the first time maybe if she wasn't talking so much we would have avoided this issue. So we wait some more and the 11 month old & pregnant lady being me are now restless. 5 mins or so pass and another server comes in. GET THIS! Says to other patrons how the printer in the kitchen is not working so she needs to retake orders. I told my husband if she came our way we were leaving because now we have been here for 30 mins without ANY FOOD. And how hard is it to just run to the kitchen and retell orders ? Ive done that numerous times when we had situations like this. How you forget everyones order? The poor girl who just came in had to take the brute of everyones frustration because we all had been there for a long time waiting. WHICH HOW IT JUST GOES OUT NOW when we had BEEN THERE FOR 30 mins!!!! So she comes to us while other people are walking out. She says the faithful words and I say we are leaving im sorry that you have to hear the frustrations. She apologized and we packed the baby up and left. Our hotel recommended Griff's for breakfast and they were right Griff's has a phenomenal breakfast averaging $5 per person with large portions. We went on a Sunday morning around 9:00 AM service was a little slow getting the food out but, we enjoyed $3.00 mimosas and bloody mary's while waiting. There is outdoor seating available and pool tables to also enjoy. It looked like they had a great happy hour every day of the week. I've read lots of reviews and have to strongly disagree with some. I have never had friendlier and more bubbly bartenders. They were funny, entertaining and could make a damn good drink! I didnt order dinner but did share two apps with a friend, the crab dip and spring rolls, and they were tasteful! The bar is very open and spacious, clean and well lit. Last but not least, it was a very mixed crowd which I enjoy because theres nothing worse than going to a bar, restaurant or store where it seems they only cater to one type of crowd. The layout of the bar and entertainment space is really nice, giving the place incredible potential to be a great bar. My husband and I were in town for a conference at a local hotel and wanted some lunch. The first place we stopped was a few streets over but the waitress was so rude we didnt even stay to get a table. We found this place and the food looked decent and the waitress was nice. We ordered a cheese pizza. She comes back and informs us they don't have the ingredients to make pizza. I then was what the soup of the day is. She informs me they haven't made it yet (even though we were eating lunch at 12:30...quite an acceptable time for lunch). I ordered a quesadilla and my husband ordered a chicken wrap with onion rings. The food came out in pretty good time. The quesadilla was WAY to full of cheese (coming from someone who loves cheese- it was obviously way to much) and the whole thing was really greasy. The salsa that came with it had a brown tint to it. Even my husband who will eat anything looked at it funny. He said his food tasted good. I tried an onion ring and they were quite delicious. We both ran out of drink though and we actually had to take our cups up to the waitress to get a refill. We joked this was where the night dies. It actually wasn't a bad place. It was kind of dead the first time we went, but in one room there was a dj and some sexy grannies dancing, like recently divorced and getting their groove back 50 year old women. They were having fun. There are pool tables, but they're always packed. They even have a little couch lounge area on your way to the bathroom in case you finish up before your girrrlllls because the bathroom is kind of small. The patio is cool which is where we spent most of the night the few times friends and I have gone. We just people watch the other bar hoppers.
